I was wondering if there are any new plugins/third party content that can be used with FCP X or Motion 5?

Illustrator Plugin can't remember the name I hope someone knows it

Hi everyone, last year I came across a really cool plugin that allowed text to be turned into 60's hippie wavy style very easily with great flow. I can't seem to remember the name and was wondering if anyone happen to come across it before. It was really good for when you wanted to make a few words work together effortlessly. If anyone knows of this plugin and can give me the name I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for trying to help. The poster isn't a great example, its actually a bit messy from what this plugin is capable of doing. Yea I can duplicate this but the company I'm doing this for is actually going to have a lot of stuff that is going to use this style, and I'm really trying to get it were it will be fast, neat and consistent as possible.
I know its not a needed plugin but when using it for this effect it really did a good job really quick with no effort at all. If anyone knows it I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

What is a good substitute plugin for Digieeffects Camera Mapper

Running AE CS5. Windows 7 64 bit
I wanted to use and try Digieeffects Camera Mapper, and downloaded the trial from their website.
It kept crashing my installation of After Effects. Digieffects Support has been helpful, trying to isolate the problem, even sending me a substitute plugin but it keeps crashing my copy of AE, which is the current updated verison.
In the meantime I am up against a deadline and am wondering if there is a similar plugin to Camer Mapper. I need to manipulate layers of a mixture of videos and still photos, creating a flat 3D effect, similar to what Digieffects does so nicely in its product demos.

Any other plugins that I should look into?
I realize I can do it all in AE without a plugin -- but a cool plugin that could assist and speed up the process would be nice!

The example you posted was probably Photoshop, separating a image into foreground, middle ground and background portions, cloning in the holes, then animating in 3D space. Very effective, but not as easy as camera mapper.
Do a google search for "kid stays in the picture" effect and you'll find several tutorials.

AU plugin recommendations?

I am looking to buy some new AU plugins to add onto my Logic library. I currently own Spectrasonic's Stylus RMX, and Atmosphere. Can you guys just please recommend a couple random plugins that you guys like? I am not looking for any specific sound, just want to know what is out there. Also I don't want anything really really expensive... around the $400 price range....

Sorry about that when you say plug ins I didn't think you ment virtual instrument plugs...
Anyway, not to be a smarty, I am not trying to start a flame war, but there are lots of great hints on this server and when you see hints that you think are interesting just google them. (This is advice to everyone). Anyway other posters are correct, it depends on what kind of music you want to make. I find that the following virtual instruments have unique sounds and for what I do smoke NI (which I think sound a bit generic, but a times standard sound sets are exactly what you need, again all about taste.)

New to logic express- plugins?

Hi all
I've just bought Logic Express, but have previously recorded tracks on Logic pro. Some pluggins I used on the drums (Sub Bass, Fat EQ) do not appear on Logic Express.
Can anyone tell me if I can get these as plugins?

Aperture cross-processing plugins

I've seen images with these really neat colours in their photographs, and was wondering, is there any special plugins for Aperture that you can get to give you an automatic cross-processed look or even a pastel look? Other than meticulous tweaking with Photoshop, is there any faster way to accomplish this? Any cool plugins you would recommend?

My Advice - Don't buy Tiffen's DFX product for Aperture.
Functionally I like it, but I just had an experience you may want to know about.
On July 21st I bought a copy of the DFX product for $299 - i thought it was really expensive and still think it is..... However, it just got worse... My HDD crashed and I just rebuilt it. I tried to load my license and it would not allow me to. It suggests I call Tiffen - I do and they tell me that I must have downloaded the new V2 product that was released on August 18th (<30 days after my initial purchase). I check - only V2 is available on their web site, so that's what I downloaded. In addition, the Apple Aperture plug-in page is how I located the plugin and that took me to V2.
So - Tiffen is going to call me back and tell me how to find V1 and load my License code, but they will not provide a free upgrade to V2. I can buy an upgrade for an additional $89.
Basically, I find this behavior despicable - launch a product on March 31 - sell it for close to 2X the price of the host program Aperture - update is 5 months later and charge an additional $89....
I was glad Apple was not being over controlling with these plug-ins, but I now wish they were.
I hope to get my v1 copy working again and then will never buy another produce (physical or SW) from them again.
I hope this helps you decide which company you want to invest you hard earned time and money in...

im using a macbook pro 2.9ghz
i am using a zoom h4n.
and i really like the sound that can be used for vocals that the electroharmonix 256v acheaves.
i have never witnessed a plug in that worked correctly althought i have tried demos with no success whatsoever.
i dont want to fork over a tone of cash.
but i am looking for an edge on the recordings i have now.
so far i am enjoy the matrix reverb and the peak limiter a great deal, and i i am fairly happy with the sound i am getting from gb for youtube vids.

to help give me a greater feel for what sound i can get. it sure helps alot to know a about this stuff, so you can get the sound your going for wihtout waisting a long time in an expensive studio

i would be interested in some effects that one might suggest for vocals.
i dont know if even its worth much of a bother as im pretty satisfied with gb as is.
but ****, i would love to get a litle bit of an edge, and i just love that funky sound that reflex tune offers.
it can get pretty good and funk when your doing certain riffs with your voice, its a nice sound.
as you can see from the video i did. have no trouble keeping up to riffin, but its just such a fun sound.
like a toy.
also if theyre are any other cool plugins one might recommend. i really would enjoy something to spice up the recordings.

How to create a picture presentation with text ?

I need to create a 2 minutes video of a Bus rental company, the video has to be created with pictures text and voiceover, the text will be the subtitle of the voiceover so that the video can also be used without audio...
I would like to make it in FCPX but I never worked with pictures in video, is there any cool plugin that you know or any particular method to create nice slideshows in FCPX ??

I'm not familiar with any slideshow plug-ins compatible with FCPX and a quick search didn't turn up anything very promising.
But FCP itself has plenty of capability for creating multimedia projects like this. Keyframing is pretty straight forward (easier than the old FCP) and gives you plenty of control over timing of moves and effects. And you should be able to use the stock titling tools to do your sub titling.
Another approach would be to use iPhoto or Aperture (or some third party photo editor) to make your slideshow. (You could use one of the photo editor slideshow templates if one of them appeals to you.) Then export the slideshow as a Quick Time movie and bring that into FCP to edit your audio and subtitles into the presentation. Keynote could also be used like this.)
Finally, if you are (or can get) comfortable working in Motion, you can create compositions that will be both and impressive and unique to your client.

That's gkrellm. I use it on all my Linux boxes. There are lots of cool plugins for it too. Search for gkrellm on the index page of this site, use pacman to install. Can go to freshmeat and search there too.

I had that plugin,but it no longer shows up under Logic 7.2.3,which is what I'm running now.So I do not use it anyomer,at least until it is updated.
Although a cool plugin,you might want to try either the Free Fish Fillets,which sound better to me,or another pay plugin like the Nomad Factory BT Compressor FA770 which is like the Fairchild,very close in fact.

Copy "SmartNormalMap.pbk" to "Documents/Adobe/Pixel Bender" within your user directory. After Effects should read the filter from there. You will find the filter under the "Pixel Bender" category within the "Effects & Presets" panel in After Effects. Pro-Consumer Needs 5.1 Monitor Help

I have been searching and searching google/bing and so on, about setting up a 5.1 audio reference monitor system.
Some tips work half way through, some tips dont work at all. So I am posting this here to maybe help other people as well that is in my situation.
Computer Setup:
Mac Pro - using the Opital Out Port
JVC Receiver - using the Optical In Port - 5.1 Speaker Setup up
Logic Pro - 9.1.7 - using Plug-In from Waves to work on Stereo -> Surround Upmix
My Project:
I have a Stereo (L/R) Feature that I need to upmix to 5.1. I am using a really cool plugin from Waves that works very well. The issues is that I can not reference the audio channels. I mean, during the upmix process I am trying to scrub during dialogue and I can not hear the center channel.
Questions:
From a Pro-Consumer position, were my budget is limitied, what is the best way to output 5.1 audio in Logic Pro or Final Cut Pro?
What are the settings for the computer?

The optical out is just a stereo connection, so you need a different interface to send audio to those different speaker outputs.

How Can I Manipulate or Animate this Static Graphic?

I'm looking for an interesting way to animate or manipulate this static graphic in a circular fashion. So I can start with the bottom box, and then move around in a clockwise fashion, step by step, revealing the whole image. I can't seem to figure out an easy to do this, is there a cool plugin or some way to do this? Much appreciated.

You might want to break down the image in single elements and do the animation in AE.

P2 Proxy generation using Compressor/Qmaster

Howdy. We bought an Intel XServe to generate proxies for Final Cut Server when it ships (now that looks like...never) but while we wait we decided to use that server for MPEG-2 encodes, etc. Well, now I have an interesting problem.
We are exploring a P2 workflow. What I would like to happen is a shooter will come back from a shoot and use P2Genie to automatically suck off the MXF files to a folder on my XSan. I want Compressor to then create a proxy of the footage so the producers can do paper edits from their desktop. I found a cool plugin called "Calibrated" (calibratedsoftware.com) that allows QuickTime to view MXF files. So my thinking is now Quicktime can see the files, Compressor should be able to flip them - right? Well, not so much.
You can't create a droplet on a server that is your Qmaster "Cluster controller" because it doesn't have a "real" version of compressor. You would need to submit the batch from an editstation (as far as I can tell). Anybody have any experience doing something like this? I can't wait for FinalCut Server because it's vaporware until it ships. Even if you have no experience with P2, if you have automated compressor renders using something like Applescript it might help me.

I setup qmaster via sys prefs. Did a custom one. Set it to 4 instances already :-/
Goto advanced tab. Select show qmaster in status bar.
That way you can easily see what process is rendering on how many instances from the menu bar.
rendering with qmaster on shake I get the 4 rendering lights on all the machines.. same with sending a compressor job. FCServer seems to just use one.
Have selected the FCServer Cluster in Admin on the client app already.
hmm... maybe its because its sending the jobs to qmaster as low priority ?

Silhouette plug-in

I have used a rastor to vector plug in called Silhouette for years. It basically takes a rastor image and converts it to a vector. Like the live trace in Illustrator except this plugin works. It's incredibly fast, not like live trace, which crashes the computer as much as anything. Unfortunately, the company that made Silhouette has gone out of business. Our laser plate cutters worked with Silhouette reducing the node count, and thus reducing the overall tempature. My question is, has anyone else ever used this plug-in and if so, are there any plugins that could do the same thing. As I understand, CorelDraw can do this, but we have several seats of Adobe Illustrator here and that is not an option unfortunately. With Adobe doing mostly cosmetic changes now days and no real improvements, waiting for this feature to be added is out. We have quite an investment in Adobe products here and sadly the new look of cs5 is great I guess, but it won't pay the bills.
