Cool & Quiet Question (I found a work around)

How do I disable cool & Quiet??  I have disabled it in bios . I have uninstalled core center, and then i even re- flashed the 1.5 bios. I am attempting to find my max HTT speed so I set my CPU to x5 my ram to 100 and HTTx2 and everytime I startup Prime95 my mult. jumps back to 9 no matter what I set it to in bios or Clock Generator.
I found a fix. First uninstall AMD K8 cpu driver and replace with standard Windows driver. This allows you to lock cpu multiplyer. Find max HTT then reinstall newer AMD driver. Works like a charm.
My System:
MSI K8N Neo4-F w/3000 [email protected] volts
MSI 6600GT @ stock
Corsair XMS [email protected] @256 2.8 volts
Windows XP w/SP2
Antec true power 430
+5=35A / +12=20A / 3.3=28A
Actual  [email protected] / 12 [email protected] / 3.3 [email protected] / 5 [email protected]
It runs sweet at 256*9=2300  mem. @1:1 on stock cooler. 33c idle  46c under load.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and or respond
Later John.

Try going to display properties and changing the power settings to "home/office" and apply. If you have it on minimal power management, max battery, or portable/laptop C&Q can run so try changing it.

  • Reader 10.1.3 Won't Open - XP - Found a work around. why?

Out of the blue Reader would not open. Nothing. I would double click and nothing would launch. While viewing Task Manager I would see an Adobe exe in the list of running programs but then it would just disappear and reader didn't load.
I uninstalled and reinstalled but it still wouldn't launch. Then I right mouse clicked on the icon and went to properties - compatibility mode - and then selected run in Windows NT compatibility mode. I applied those settings and bammmm adobe reader works once again.
Exactly what is going on here?
I have been googling around and seen this problem pop up a lot and no solutions .... why does this work?
    Thanks!

That is rather strange; the Adobe Reader executable is AcroRd32.exe
If that is what you actually saw, can you check the Event Viewer (applications) for the time when that happened, if you can see any reasons why this happened?

  • Final mixdown is dramatically off when exported. I had found a work-around but that no longer works.

This has happened before: I'd blend, EQ, pan, etc. to a great final mix and bounce it out (either to disk or straight to ITunes) and certain stock EQs and compressions would end up disabled. I learned that the MacBook just needed to be rebooted and GarageBand re-opened and re-bounced and my mix would be fine.
Lately, however, this trick doesn't seem to be helping.
Anyone know whats going on here?
    THANKS
PS Im still using the old interface (GarageBand 6.0.5 as the new GB doesnt accept 3rd party apps I rely on)

  • Quick Cool & Quiet Question

Got it set up, runs fine at 1001 MHz (it's a 3200+ 90nm), when I use Winamp for video or audio, it goes up to around 1050 MHz...is that considered about right?  I'd like to try something to see it spike to the max value but can't figure out what to try (3dMark?)
Also, if I set a program to a higher priority level in task manager, will that cause the CPU to throttle higher due to more CPU being needed to operate?  I'll be interested to see how Half-Life2 will perform with it enabled.
I'm still learning this C&Q stuff, read thru the FAQ for some goodies too which was good.
    Ian
    PS...no sys specs yet, but it's a K8N Neo2 w/ an AMD64 3200+ 90nm.

    mrcairo
I'm sure some of the other guys will explain it better but when C 'n' Q is enabled it acts as a power saving device. When idling it shows my CPU running at 1000mhz (5 x 200) but under load it shows 2000 mhz (10 x 200).
Again, not excatly a 'tech' description but I hope it helps.

  • Work around for server not found problems on FF36

I have found a work around for all the people having server not found problems with FF36.
If you manually set your network adapter DNS to an external DNS server (as opposed to your local ISP) then the problem goes away. I set mine to use the two google DNS servers:
    Preferred: 8.8.8.8
    Alternate: 8.8.4.4
Not a clue why this works but it is 100% successful on my desktop PC, whereas before I could hardly connect to a webpage with FF36 without multiple page refreshes and much frustration, even though FF35 was fine and rolling back to FF35 was also fine.
Something has changed in FF36 and either the way it handles DNS or the way it works with some network adapters.
It is nothing to do with add-ons, profiles or firewall software as I have tried all of these things and only the DNS change made a difference. I even copied over a full working profile and the program files directory for Mozilla from my portable which was having no problems and the problem still existed on the desktop, which is why I started looking at the network adapater since everything else between the working PC and the non working one was identical.
Hopefully this will help the developers to pin down the real cause of the problem and fix it in the next release.

Well done. Thanks for finding that.
That is not only assigned but has an approved patch included in the scheduled Fx36.0.1 release so it should be fixed in few days, watch out for the upgrade.

    * https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Channels/Meetings/2015-03-03#Schedule_Update
With the bug now fixed it would not really be appropriate to add further comment. I do now see another related bug assigned but not being fast tracked, so if all goes well that will probably land in Firefox 39.

  • Work around for shared calendars

Has anyone found a work around for shared calendars yet? This has to be one of the biggest downfalls of the iPhone, along with the fact it can't search in the mail app.
If anyone ahs found a work around I'd be very keen to here it.

I have not used this product but it sounds like it may be able to do what you want.

  • Work-around to "unknown device" problem

I found a work-around to the "unknown device" problem, a pain to do, but much less painful than any alternatives I've found so far.
In my case, I can connect my Ipod one time. After I eject it, if I reconnect, I get the Unknown Device error. That's where this work-around comes in.
There is an INF file (a Windows hardware configuration file) in the Windows\INF directory that has a name that will be specific to your computer. Once you determine that file, you need to re-install it. Re-installing it allows the Ipod to be recognized the next time it is connected. These are the steps:
    1) Determine the file name on your computer. You only need to do this one time, and then remember the name. Using Regedit, navigate to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-44455354 0000}. Then do an Edit / Find for "ipod" without the quotes, making sure that "Data" is checked and "Match whole string only" is not checked. It should find "Apple iPod USB Driver" in the "DriverDesc" value in one of the sub-keys. There will be another value called "InfPath". The data for that is the file name for the INF file on your computer. On my computer it is oem51.inf. It will be something like that on yours.
    2) In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Windows\Inf and find that file. In addition to "oem??.inf", there will be an "oem??.pnf" (same numbers), which is a binary version of the .inf file. Delete that file, or rename it if you prefer. If it exists, step 3 will not work.
    3) Right click on the .inf file and select Install. The computer will chug for a few seconds. The .pnf file should reappear and, more importantly, your iPod should now be able to connect one time. At least it does for me.
I hope that Apple puts out a fix for this problem sometime soon. Meanwhile, doing steps 2 and 3 every time I want to connect is annoying, but bearable.

I would like to apologize for posting this message. I promise that it did work and did seem to be the solution at the time I posted it, but it helps me no longer. My Ipod was recognized several consecutive times after I posted this with no work-around, but then it became an unknown device again, and there it stays, seemingly forever.
I am a highly skilled and experienced Windows system programmer, and this has me stumped. I apologize for any time that my message may have wasted for others. I have also tried every other solution that has been posted here and elsewhere, and none work.
I would recommend that Apple pay me a lot of money to find and fix this problem. Short of that, they should pay someone else to fix it. To have this many fatal problems for so many people should be considered unacceptable. Until a fix is available, I shall just be happy that I got as much onto my Ipod as I did before it became unavailable.

  • Work around for iTunes not working with shuttle

Well, I have found a work around for the iTunes not working the the Shuttle. It is not pretty, and many of you may not choose to follow my lead. This procedure has a lot of dumb steps in it, but in the end, one can copy data/songs to a Shuttle.
It involves removing the current iTunes and replacing it with a version that also had a bug in it.( I told you it ain't pretty).
    Procedure:
    1. Go to this url: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    2. Download the old 8.0 version of iTunes for Windows.
    3. Remove the current iTunes from your computer. Note after you run the remove utility in Windows, you need to delete the iTune library that isn't removed.
    4. Install iTunes 8.0
Here is where it gets dumb.
This version of iTunes has a bug with the USB interface, but there is an easy work around.
    5. Make sure the Shuttle is not connected when you launch iTunes.
    6. After iTunes comeup, attach the Shuttle.
    7. iTunes should see your Shuttle.
    8. Select the music you want to upload, and drag it to the Shuttle.
    9. iTunes will just sit there, so you need to get its attention. To get its attention you must disconnect and reconnect one of your USB devices, just not the Shuttle. Some folks do their mouse, one used a USB drive, and another on used is GPS because he was working from a laptop and did not have a mouse.
    10. In a few moments, iTunes will do its thing and copy your data to the Shuttle. You must do this routine for each copy, so if you develop a Play List, you only have to do step 9 once.
The getting the old copy of iTunes was my idea, but a gentleman from a year ago figured out the mouse step.
I am now a happy camper, my Shuttle is full of music again.
However, I hope Apple finds a fix for the 8.2 problem soon.
    Take care all.

I stand corrected on the name. By the time I figured out how to copy the songs I had a few other names in mind.
One of the first things I tried was the Reset utility. After the iTunes restore did not work, I went looking for something else. After using the utility, I connected the iPod and resynced. I had left the Autofill box checked. iTunes autofilled the iPod. I deleted those songs and tried to put a different play list in. It would not copy the songs, iTunes said there was no room even though the play list for the shuffle was empty. I looked at the settings screen and it said the iPod was full. I synced the iPod to my Mac, and that got rid of the "full" indication. That is when I started looking for an older version of iTunes, unfortunately all I could find is a version with the USB bug.

  • Any work arounds to not use SSN for iOS5 upgrade

Anyone else bothered by Apple requiring your SSN in order to activate your iphone (as a last step)?  The phone is completely unusable unless you enter this info in (at least for Verizon)  I don't care how secure they say they are, this still really irritates me.  Anyone found a work around to this?

I know you might have gone through these steps, or at least a couple of them, but go ahead and give them a try again.
There are some things to try with an iPod that won't turn off.
First of all, be sure that your "Hold" switch isn't turned on (the hold switch is located on the top of your iPod).
Then, after you’ve verified that your iPod’s Hold switch isn’t on, here a few things to try:
-- Reset the iPod. Be sure you're doing it the correct way: Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for about 5-10 seconds.
Be sure to also try connecting your iPod to a power source while doing this step several times.
-- Try toggling the Hold switch. Flip the "Hold" switch on your iPod (located on the top) back and forth several times.
Again, this includes connecting the iPod to a power source while you're toggling the Hold switch back and forth (this worked for someone who's iPod wasn't responding to anything).
-- Try letting your iPod's battery drain out. Use your iPod enough that its battery finally goes dead, asking to re-charge it.
At this point, connect your iPod to your computer's USB or a charger, and leave it there for a couple of hours.
Now see if your iPod will turn off after trying that.
-- If none of these work, you might want to try Restoring your iPod. Note that this does delete all the contents off the iPod (which is why it is somewhat more of a "last resort"), but often clears up iPod issues you might be facing.

  • Printing with OSX 10.5.2 and Lexmark 5470 Work around

I just upgraded to Leopard. Like many people have had problems printing with my existing Lexmark printer. Upgraded to the latest print driver and now able to print, but, pauses. When brining up Que. am able to continue print process, but puts many pages into small space at one place on the paper. Tried removing driver and printer info and then reinstalling all. Still same problem. Have not found any solution to the direct problem and am still searching, however, I have found a WORK AROUND. If you used the print dialog box and select sending to PDF first and then print from Preview everything works just fine.
So what gives? The doc I was trying to print was from Firefox from the internet. So maybe it has something to do with the App being used. I did not try with Safari, but I will try next. If it works from Safari correctly then I can maybe assume that it is a problem from third party app software, since it printed fine from Apple's app Preview as a PDF.
Just a thought. Any other thoughts, please submit. I too am looking for answers.

The compatibility page (http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/sequentialem/home/0,6959,204816596666691854_1177082303en,00.html) says that the x5470 is bundled with the 10.5 DVD so you should reinstall using that driver.
It's also a good idea to try with Safari. The fact that you were able to print with other apps seems to indicate that problem is with Firefox. What version are you using?

  • Numbering Work around

Has anyone found a work around for Page's weird numbering where "1" in iPad Pages converts to "0" or " " when exported to Word?

Did you take the playlist out of shuffle mode? Bottom buttons, second from left on my iTunes, the two little crossed arrows. if that is selected you can not change the order of the playlist. Deselect that button and you should now be able to move them around (after selecting the first column as your sort column as already pointed out).

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • Bundle export/import questions and work arounds

    Hello,
I've begun to use bundles to migrate components from our test server to our production server. Bundles are a great feature which i missed the last time i worked with N1SPS a few years back. But i've found a few things that i had to work around.
    1. It would be very nice to be able to set version to something like "latest" in the bundle, so i always get the latest version of all components when i do an export.
    2. The bundle should be able to export in a certain order, first folder then components, then containers and lastly plans. Today i have to add everything to the bundle in this order or change the XML-file in the jar afterwards. A function to change the order in the bundle would also help.
    3. Then the bundle is imported the container reefers to components of version 1.1 for some reason (in this case a directory), but it will import that component to version 1.0? I had to change the version reference in the XML to get this to work.
Any workaround or is it all RFE:s and bugfixes?
    Regards
    Henrik

Thank you for your fast reply. Is (1) something that could be object for a RFE? I think it's a common work flow to export the latest versions from a development server to a production server.
    Regards
    Henrik

The question mark-slash key, the semi-colon key, the eject key, don't work at all as a result of getting wet. Can I do a temporary work-around by assigning another key (like the f11 or f12) to use until I get a "proper" fix>(that's a q-mark...)

  • Unix Domain Socket - Question about work around

Since Unix Domain Sockets are platform dependent and Java is platform independent, it does not support it.
However, I am sure some of you have worked with them and found some good work around.
Elsewhere Jtux was suggested as a possible fix. However, I have not seen any good testimonials to it working. Also, if there are any security issues with this software. The website is here: http://www.basepath.com/aup/jtux/
Does anyone have any other suggest?
    Thanks.

I am modifying a current app. I must use the Unix
Domain Sockets. I have no choice in the matters. It's
for security reasons that they must be left in place.I can only guess that you do not understand my suggestion.
The proxy does a domain socket to regular socket - just a pass through. You write this in C/C++.
In your java app, as one option, you use Runtime.exec() to start the proxy. Then you use a java socket to connect to it. You can pass options to the proxy to control the socket behavior on both ends.
In terms of usage there are a number of variations on the above.
