Cool stuff to do between Macbook Pro and Vista?

Anybody know any cool things you can do between MBP and Vista?
i can already screen share with YuuGuu and access my PC's C Drive, anything else?

You should be able to do anything you can do if you were running Vista on any other PC.

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.

  • Set up home sharing between macbook pro and desktop pc. tried to sync music in library but ipod is not syncing the library. why not?

I set up homesharing between macbook pro and desktop pc.  I have attempted to sync songs on my mac and pc, but the ipod will not sync the full library.  why not?

    Hey harold WD!
You will want to consolidate your entire library onto one computer using Home Sharing in order to sync all of these items onto your iPod. Use the following article to help you accomplish this:

  • I can't sync my all email message between macbook pro and iPad 4

    Hi,
I can't sync my all email message between macbook pro and iPad 4. This sync only complete account setting but not email message.
Can anybody help me to fix the problem?

You can't "fix" this problem because you can't sync email messages from the Mac mail app, you can only sync your email account settings. Messages will not sync using iTunes.

  • Can i remotely share files between macbook pro and iMac

Want to know if I can do remote file sharing between macbook pro and imac.

Yes, absolutely. She can access her iMac from anywhere that has an Internet connection. If Screen Sharing is enabled, she can log in and use it as if she were seated at the iMac.
Provided the iMac's router supports the Bonjour Sleep Proxy (obviously all Apple AirPort Base Stations do), the iMac can even be asleep, and BTMM will wake it upon the router receiving a request to access the iMac.
The speed of her available Internet connection will be a limiting factor. Slower connections will be a bit laggy.
Her iMac will appear in a Finder Sidebar, under "Shared".

  • Syncing/mirroring data/preferences/apps between macbook pro and air

    This was probably already asked hundreds of times – but after extensive google search I still haven't found a solution that would satisfy me;
    It is about syncing ...
    To be more precise: I work on two macs (in my case a macbook pro and a macbook air) and I want to  have kind of "mirrored systems";
I want to have the same apps across the two systems with the same preferences
And of course I don't want to set it up all manually.
And programs who use librarys to manage the underlying data (like iPhoto, Together, iTunes etc.) should be synced across the two macs.
    Is that even possible?
I tried the dropbox solution for application preferences (copying the preference-files to dropbox and create simlinks in the preference folders).
But it seemed like this would lead dropbox to constantly uploading and syncing stuff (which is not necessary since I don't work on the two machines 'simultaneously') ...
Also it feels like a hacky solution which at some point could easily break.
So I thought about time machine.
But I heard that it is really slow – and I only have 128 gb on my macbook air.
Therefore I actually don't want to sync every application and every data-folder.
So what is the best solution for these problems?
Is time machine really so slow? Can't you tell the macbook air to only 'restore' part of the newest backup (made on the pro)?
    What other solutions are there?
I use the macbook air when I have to travel – so I don't need a perfect sync constantly – but before I leave the house with the air I want to get it synced properly (but as I said, not everything because it wouldn't fit on the ssd of the air) ...

Yes. You can use File Sharing between the two computers together with an appropriate backup/sync utility.

  • Airdrop between Macbook Pro and iPhone 5 not working

Hi, I'm trying to use Airdrop between my Macbook Pro 17" (early 2009) running OS Yosemite, and my iPhone 5 running IOS 8.0.2, but it is not working.
All the specs on both of my laptop and iPhone seem to be ok, as Apple says in the System Requirements.
I've verified that Airdrop works fine betwen my Macbook Pro and other Mac laptops, but not with my iPhone.
I've all tried, but it's impossible, it doesn't work, and it should work.
I attach a screenshot showing the specs of my Macbook Pro, as well as the System Requirements.
    Please,any solution?
    Thank you.

From Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to ...
"In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model."

  • Transferring files between MacBook Pro and PC

First, what's the best way to copy files back and forth between a MacBook Pro and a 5-year-old Dell PC? Would I use a "firewire"? (Is that the same thing as a USB?)
Next, I've heard that there's some way to automate the process so that you can copy and paste or drag and drop an item to a certain location on one computer, and it's automatically transported to a certain location on the other computer. For example, suppose I'm modifying some Dreamweaver files on my PC, and I want to copy them a local website on my MacBook. Can this be done?
I have an external hard drive that I use to back up data from my PC. I discovered that I can connect it to my MacBook. However, it's a somewhat tedious process.
    Thanks.

In actual fact the simplest is just to use a flash USB thumb drive.

  • Sharing folders between MacBook Pro and workgroup in windows 7

In September 2013 I was able to share folders between a MacBook Pro and 2 Windows 7 computers where all 3 computers belonged to the same workgroup.
Leelannee Cochran (at that time an Apple Level 3 support person) was satisfied with how I did it and I understood her to say that it would be "memorialized" by Apple.
I had a lightening incident where my cable modem was fried and had to be replaced.  Now, I am not able to share the files in the MacBook Pro
Would someone tell me how to share files - unfortunately, I had not kept the notes

    Thank you Team ZigZag
I have had 3 different vendors where I had to go to "higher" level support.  The most recent occasion was with my router where I overheard the "supervisor" tell the 1st level tech support person "there is no way that the router will work with a workgroup.
I pleaded that it had done so before I had to replace my cable modem.  Finally, I was able to share files between two windows 7 computers in the same workgroup and wrote to the manufacturer that I had done so, the reply was that they
are not responsible for 3rd party vendors!
As I mentioned, I was able to work my way to Leelannee Cochran who was a 3rd level support person at Apple, and she too was, initially, very skeptical and when I succeeded she offered to memorialize what I had done.  I had to use my methods to
re-establish the MacBook on several occasions as a "sharing" member of the workgroup.  I probably have lost my nerve and therefore am unable to recall exactly what I did
I found that  a third vendor, despite the claim that their product would work with Mac OS the higher level support person was using me as a "resource"  but my problem was that my computer kept crashing!
Trust me, frontline (1st Level) tech support are normally very competent but  it is not easy to reach higher level tech support persons when their expertise runs out and are reluctant to call for higher level support!
I have had similar nightmares with support and that why I volunteer here and elsewhere.  I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies.  I have found persistence is the key.  I have, in the middle of a level 1 call where they said there was nothing
they could do and there was no supervisor aound, hung up and immediately redialed and wonder of wonder got the supervisor within 5 mins.
    Good Sleuthing on your part

  • File sharing permissions issue between Macbook Pro and iMac

    Hi,
I'm having trouble sharing files to and from a Macbook Pro and iMac. Both are brand new, and connected via a firewire cable (Due to large file sizes)
I can share files between both computers no problem, but the files are set to 'Read only' by default once moved to the over device and can't be moved or renamed without requiring a password every single time.
Is there a way to totally share files without having to enter a password every time I want to move or rename it?
    > File sharing is turned ON on both computers.
    > Share files and folders using AFP is ticked
    > Share files and folders using SMB is ticked also.
    Thanks

Try disabling SMB File Sharing, & in the Sharing Pref Panes>Sharing>Options, see what users are listed.
Also, try logging into the other Mac with the Other Mac's username & PW, not using the name & PW of the one you're on.

  • File Sharing between macbook pro and imac

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with file sharing between my bankbook pro and my new iMac. I want to share some photos on my iPhoto library from my macbook pro and transfer them to my iMac. I've turned on file sharing and tried connecting, entered in my username and password, but it won't connect. I've tried several times with the correct username and password combination, and the box just shakes and denies entry. I've even tried connecting as a guest user and it says "access is denied, contact system administrator." Can anyone help? I've upgraded to Yosemite on both computers.
    Thanks in advance.

I've done everything that you've recommended, however, I am still having trouble sharing files between my macbook and iMac. I even tried using airdrop to transfer files, but nothing seems to be working. I've made sure the firewall options are what they're supposed to be and everything. Whenever I try to login as administrator to file share, it won't accept my password. I don't know why airdrop isn't working either.

  • What can one do with Bluetooth between MacBook Pro and iPhone?

    Hello,
I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs. It seems not to work; after trying to "browse the device" it effectively 'times out' (as if it's a neverending 'loading' wait icon). I saw some other threads here, "I can't sync/connect my iPhone and iMac!" with various replies, like "you sync [Calendar agenda] via MobileMe, not via Bluetooth."
What does one do with Bluetooth? Can't I send files wirelessly from my phone to my laptop? If not, why not? If so, why is the connection wait interminable? I have enabled File Sharing and Bluetooth Sharing on my laptop, but see no direct means to do so in my phone's settings -- must this be done through iTunes? Do I need to configure something further before I can send files?
I have iPhone 3G Version 4.2.10 (last I checked -- still waiting to install an update) and Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.8).
    Thanks for your time!

"I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs."
This is not a feature of iphone.  Never has been.
Other than tethering for internet, where provided by the carrier, you cannot connect to a computer/device/phone and do anything.
Bluetooth is for handsfree telephone devices/headsets, stereo speakers/headsets, some keyboards, some peer to peer apps from the app store and tethering where provided by the carrier.
