Cooler Recommendation ?

Hello
I browsed the Manual, the Forum, and the Tech Compatibilty page, but I couldn´t find any clue about what cooler to use with a Neo KT8 FIS2R.
So here my quesions:
1. Is the AMD Boxed cooler sufficent (I am looking for a silent cooler) and does he support Quiet N Cool ?
2. If the Boxed doesn´t meet the requirements, which one should I use ?
3. For Cool N Quiet I need a Cooler with 3 Pins, to enable RPM Controle ?

I recommend the Zalman cnps 7000. Whatever you choose be aware that the MSI K8T neo has TWO holes around the Ziff (CPU) socket NOT four. I originally choose the SLK900 and it would not fit.
At a ambient/room temperature of 76F my idle temps is 33C/89F for case and 34C/91F for the CPU. What impresses me about the Zalman is when I defragment (for example) a large partition the CPU temp soars to 44C/105F within a minute 20 secs and doesnt get any higher. When it finishes it goes back to idle temp also within a minute 20 secs.

  • CPU Cooler Recommendation

    Hi,
I'm looking for recommendations for a decent CPU cooler. Price isn't really an issue.
I recently bought the ASUS Star Ice CPU cooler, couldn't get my MB to work and then broke the fan while fumbling around with it. So don't recommend that one, it maybe good but I don't like it anymore. I also want a CPU cooler that I just can connect to the MB connector and have SpeedFan control its fan, not some external knob etc. It also shouldn't be too heavy. A little above intel specs is OK but not too much.
    Looking forward for recommendations.

The zalman sink is really quite beyond belief. Get this: at idle and moderate load it keeps my Northwood cool enough with the fan turned off. I found this out quite by accident one day when I noticed my idle temps were about five degrees higher than they ought to be. I figured something was running in the background and spent ten minutes trying to figure out what spyware or virus was secretly using my CPU cycles before I noticed that the CPU fan read 0 RPM. I'd accidentally pulled the wire out while working inside the case. I'm sure this would have fallen short had I pulled up anything really demanding, but I was pretty impressed The downside, however, is that the fan, even at full power, doesn't seem to take full advantage of the sink. I've been obsessed with lowering my temps lately, so I dug out an old p4 stock cooler, cannibalized it, and mounted the fan such that it blows across the sink, i.e. perpendicular to the sink fan such that it's blowing directly toward my exhaust fans.  I haven't stressed tested it yet, but my idle temps dropped by something ridiculous like six degrees. As in, my CPU now idles 2-3 degrees cooler than my case. Hence, it's pretty clear to me that the fan just isn't moving enough air to take advantage of the sink's thermal properties. And trust me when I say that the problem is not the amount of air moving through my case: the thing practically hovers. I'm not sure whether the zalman fan can be replaced (I intend to check the next time I have good reason to remove it); if so, mounting one of those 92 mm chop-your-finger-off thermalake (sp?) tornado fans on it would basically do the trick. I appreciate the quiet cooling concept, but I see every extra decibel as added time between me and the moment when something blows up

  • Cpu and chipset cooling,recommendations?

Trying to figure out what the best HS is for a 3400 on the K8N and chipset cooler. Stock HS running about 35-41 sys temp and 40-51 cpu (Idle/load). sitting at 41 sys and 45cpu right now, weird.... Its all in a coolermaster "stacker?" case. Good airflow (1x120, 2x80 front and 1x80 side intake, 1x120, 3x80 out...) Going to add the "crossblower" fan as soon as I can find it in stock. Had thoughht about the coolermaster hyper 6 but its huge, would have to tie it off to the psu plate or something to keep it from shifting I think
I was looking at the ZALMAN CNPS7000A-AlCu
    http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=35-118-108&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
I like the idea of quiet but summer is coming up and temps rise.... I also was thinking of running a duct from an 80 on the back or side to the HS fan as in intake and I dont think you can do it with the zalman. Any ideas? Not looking for a 92mm tornado setup, have to please the wife...
the chipset cooler gets me, have never bought one. Would like to be able to get one with a fan and plug into the board. Any thoughts on which one will work best?

Check some of the signatures here on the nVidia Athlon64 section of the Forum. That will give you a good idea of the Heatsink/fan combinations that are used!
I think the stock HSF is O.K., and I personally use the Zalman 7000AlCu....but there are other good ones!
P.S. while playing around yesterday....I opened the case up and put an additional fan on the exposed areas and it definitely dropped my temps about 8 deg. I'm thinking of adding a side case fan to help ventilation. I've got the Lian-Li PC-65 black aluminum case.

  • Nx7900gt VIVO cooling recommendation

hi people my nx7900gtt2d256e is too damn hot when im playing heavy games, this vga comes overclocked from factory and even havina larger cooler than standard gt it hangs after a while gaming (like with sc: double agent)
so im looking where i can find some really good vga cooler something like the 7900gtx standard cooler or if i can get some OEM 7900gtx cooler or better, the 90%  i find dont sit over the memory that's why i want the cooler from the 7900gtx thanks

    Quote from: henrythe9th on 18-January-07, 05:21:20
how about modding your case to fit a 12cm intake fan on the side panel, and maybe a 8cm blow hole fan in the top of the case sounds like a lack of air flow in the case. henrythe9th
yes i already think on that and i will do it, i think 2 12cm fan's one just over the processor, and one over the pci zone, just pointing to the chipset and rear side of the vga
    and one in the top
and i think i will do that, but also think in noise more fan mean more noise, and thats why i thinked about a WC system,
but make it take time space and proper tools and in dont have any, buy it... well i heard dosent have the right perfomance, or are quite expensive, like those swifttech sweetys
in this situation will be beter make my own WC
the other option is starting to change the actual stock cooling with something more "cool" thats  why i thinked about heat pipes for all my rig and folowing that increase ventilation with a pair of extra coolers

  • KM2M + big cooler ?

    Hi all,
I am about to buy the MSI K2M2 Combo L, and I wonder if there is enough space around the cpu to use an Arctic Cooling "Slim Silent Pro" cooler. On the Arctic Cooling website it says that due to the big size of the heatsink (84 x 76 x 33 mm) this cooler violates the "Height Restriction Area" and thus cannot be used on around 10% of the motherboards.
Can anyone who knows / owns the motherboard tell me if there is enough space around the cpu to install this rather big cooler?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Holger

Hey, thanks a lot for your quick replies and for the cooler recommendation  )
Indeed the WhisperRock seems like a very cool cooler - and besides that it looks beautiful! What a shame to hide such a great work of architecture inside a computer case  :D
    Best wishes,
    Holger

  • Recommendations for cooling pad for 15" MBP

Hi, I have found that I am using my macbook pro for watching movies and things in my bed a lot of the time. The computer gets really hot and the fans seem like they are going fast all the time.
I was wondering if there are any recommendations for cooling pads that could help prevent this.
    Thanks for any help.

To supplement the comments but Scott, I also believe that a cooling pad is not necessary. Your computer is engineered to cool itself. If you are concerned with higher than normal fan speeds and want to continue use on your bed, I would recommend something with a flat and hard surface such as a book or clipboard.
Many laptop coolers feature active cooling using fans. Note that many of these are not engineered specifically for your Macbook Pro. I've used a Zalman cooler that pushed air towards the bottom of my laptop and actually increased operating temperatures. I hypothesize that the directional air and angle of the cooler impeded the Apple designed internal passive/active cooling of the laptop. These devices are also burdensome in that you need to supply power to them.
In the end, the rather pricy Zalman cooler was more effective has a flat and hard surface than as an active cooler.
There are alternatives to active cooling, including a mat that absorbs quite heat energy by transforming solid crystals into a liquid. From what I've read these are effective for some time, but once all of the crystals have been liquified, is longer as effective (at least until the crystals re-solidify).
If you happen to find something that works particularly well with the Macbook Pro, please do share. Otherwise, a simple hard and flat surface will likely work very well and reduce heat/fan speeds while using your computer on an insulator (the bed).

  • M9517c failing Nvidia chipset; any recommendation for cooling fan?

  • Recommendations for a cooling stand or cooling system...

I have read everything I could find about cooling stands. I am even more confused now after all my research. I use a 17" MacBook Pro. My notebook is an older MBP; I believe I purchased it in late '06. It has the Intel Core Duo Processor, speed is 2.16 GHz with 100 GB hard drive (with about 46 Gigs available.) From those specs, could anyone recommend the right type/brand of cooling stand? I read on one site "an expert" would ONLY recommend the Rosewill for a MBP. However, I could not find any additional mention of the Rosewill stand or what model he was recommending. And I don't know if he was referring to a new MBP or and older one, like mine. I also read detailed explanation of fans, vents and exhausts but I everything I've read was technically WAY over my head. I "think" I learned that I should look for a stand with fans or a cooling mechanism located in the the proper place(s) for my model MBP. I'm not exactly sure though where the vents and exhaust are located. I am overwhelmed by models of coolers on the market and underwhelmed by the lack of cooling stands specifically made for a 17 inch MBP. My office gets very hot in the summer; my notebook tends to run quite hot. I don't use any gigantic programs, Photoshop occasionally, would be the largest. I have checked to see if any unknown applications are running. I also use the smcFanControl program to amp up my fans when needed. Everything seems to be running properly. It just gets very hot; and as i said, my office gets very hot in the summer -- and that -- I cannot change. I know this scenario cannot be great for the life of the machine. I'd like to upgrade my stand, as I would like to prolong the life of my machine. Since I first purchased this notebook, I have used a Rain aluminum stand (with padded feet, no fans.) If anyone could advise me, I would be most appreciative. Also, if you have additional questions about my machine/system, I'd be happy to answer any questions. Thanks very much, in advance. Happy Mac user for 20+ years.

I was surprised by the effectiveness of a cooler my daughter gave me for Christmas. It's branded "SwissGear" but made in China, and I honestly did not expect much from it. However, my minor modification of installing adhesive plastic feet to raise it about 3/16" (~5mm) over its factory height seems to make it perform better.
It is light enough to go in my computer case for all but airline travel, has sliders for the top contact points that accommodate both my 15" MBP and my 17" Powerbook G4, and the ends can be pulled open if even more space is needed. I doubt it was expensive.
Image here (there are apparently several pads bearing the same name):
    http://www.switched.com/tag/swiss-army/
Although the article links to the SwissGear site, the site does not list the product--probably something where they simply sold a name,
This one pulls air across the case bottom and out the bottom of the cooler. I have no idea how much the difference between pulling and pushing makes, but it works on my computers.
The entire bottom of the MBP case acts as a heat sink, so anything that moves a volume of air in that area is a plus. The other critical areas--the exhaust on the back edge along the display hinge and the keyboard--can't be served by a chill pad anyway so the best action for those areas is to keep them unobstructed.

  • Can anyone recommend a notebook cooler for a 17" Unibody MBP?

    Hi,
I've been looking at notebook/laptop coolers for my Macbook Pro. Can anyone recommend what the best pad might be?
I've been doing quite a bit of research and see it's not entirely straightforward. For instance, the Zalman ZM-NC1500 has the grill/fans in the wrong place for my MBP - really the cooling area needs to be at the screen end, to directly cool the GPU and CPU.
Likewise quite a few of the better notebook coolers don't seem to be available in the UK, such as the Vizo Ninja 2.
Any ideas what I could go for?

I bought my MBP as a desktop replacement and it gets far hotter than my Powerbook did at peak load. I'm looking to get something to elevate the machine whist cooling the bottom of the unit.
I've seen the NZXT Cryo Lx is well reviewed and actually seems to do a good job. Can't find a UK supplier with stock though.

  • Recommendations for keeping my mbp cool when using it my lap?

My mbp does fine when I used it on a hard surface (desk), but I frequently use it on a soft surface, like my lap, for extended periods of time and it can get quite hot, as the soft surface prevents it from getting the necessary airflow to keep it cooled down.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a slim, lightweight cooling pad for use on softer surfaces?

Any cooling pad that connects to a usb port should do.  If you order one from online, buy the one that has the highest number of positive reviews that fits your budget.

  • Satellite A210-13f - Which laptop cooler pad do you recommend?

    Hi everyone,
Ive had a Satellite A210-13f notebook for a year. \
Right now Im looking for a cooler for it.
Ive noticed my laptop has a fan underneath and Im wondering if all laptop coolers (thermal take, cooling master...) are appropriate for it.
Also i would like one which you can settle on your lap and as silent as possible.
    Thx very much!!!

Ive got a A210 with AMD CPU and it doesnt overheat.
Of course I notice a warm air from a notebook side after a long time of usage but this is nothing unusual.
Very important is that you would use the notebook on the table.
Furthermore there should be enough free space around the notebook to ensure a properly air circulation and the cooling grilles should be free!!
From time to time I clean my ventilators using a compressed air spray. This helps to get rid of dust and debris.
Follow these guidelines and your notebook shouldnt overheat.

  • What notebook cooler do you have/recommend?

  • I need to cool down my G4 MDD 1.25 DP - Replacement fan recommendations

    Hello,
This is my first post to this forum. My G4 was very unhappy and so far the information here has given me great direction in my effort to upgrade my mac. Now I need to lower the temperature... I think.
    Heres some background:
About a week ago my G4 crashed and the original 80gb hard drive stopped mounting. It was really warm inside the case and I'm guessing something overheated. Disk Utility gave me the "underlying task failure" error. I was frantic to retrieve the data I neglected to back-up. Two days later I booted it up with Disk Utility again so I could write down the HD errors and the hard drive mounted. Since then I made a carbon copy of the OS and migrated it over to one of the two new WD 160gb ATA/100 drives I put in (thanks to this list).
It was like a new Mac and didn't crash for 6 days, until last night, it crashed hard again. Got the blue screen twice. I decided it was too hot so I opened the case door a third of the way, got a window fan, and literally laid it over both my cinema display and the top of the Mac. Waited ten minutes and it stared up and ran fine.
Can anyone give me the low down on the best most compatible fan to get, something I can swap out.
Do I need to replace more than just the main fan and where is the best place to get this stuff.
Could the power supply components be the issue?
Thanks in advance for any insight or responses.

    vejvoda,
the blue screen is a software issue. When overheating you would get a kernel panic with black screen and white text. A computer will generally be quite warm inside. Run your Mac with the side panel open and check that all fans are running: PSU, case and CPU. You should remove excessive dust accumulation from fan intakes and exhaust (after shutting it down of course). If the fans check ok you need no replacements.
The blue screen would indicate you should do some maintenance like booting the install CD/DVD and running disk repair (not verify) repeatedly until you don't get any more errors. After that booted from your HD you should run DU again and repair permissions.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Suggestions for excellent Air/Fan Cooling - P4 Northwood

Guys, I need some advice here.  I've got my 2.8 Northwood up to 3.16 (yea, I know, not great or anything but good enough for right now).
Anyway, with the coming of the blazing Summer temps hitting Michigan in the high 80-90s, my case and CPU temps are skyrocketing.  I am finding that my idle temps, once at 31C are now at 35-36C, and the CPU temps once at 42C max under load are now reaching 50+ C.  Also, this is the first time in months upon seemingly endless months that I am now getting random reboots, and I am sure it is due to soaring temps and heat problems.  The room temps here are killer, and right now are in the high 70s...
I would like to please hear your suggestions/recommendations on a good AIR/FAN cooling solution for my specs I have listed below.  I am looking for something that is not very loud if possible, I welcome and thank you for your comments!

I only know that I can't suggest a HS and fan because my temperature is higher than my 2.6GHz Northwood's since i decided to install the Thermalright XP90 and the 92mm UFO Thermaltake fan(~82CFM max.). I recently discovered an old picture from Speedfan saying CPU temp: 40C!!! Now right after boot up, I get 40-44C idle and it can climb up to 60C at full load. I know for a fact that air flow is bad inside the case but it's unbelievable to have 40C+ idle. It can't possibly be the air flow so soon after boot. The pressure (and contact) on the CPU was enough to actually see my CPU stuck on the base of the HS after removing the HS!!! A few pins had to be straightened too.
So, from my experience I think you already rock, since we have 30C(86F) already where I live. The feeling of the XP90 crashed under my boot will ease my pain...Oh, yes it will.
P.S. I 'll give the Arctic Silver a try before smashing the XP90 junk...

  • How to change the cooler on Satellite M30-344?

    Hello,
I´m pretty lucky with my Satellite M30-344 but since 2 months the cooler starts to get louder every day. Is it possible to change the cooler on my own and how expansive is the original cooler? Do you know something like a tutorial for the changing process?
Originally 2 256MB Ram pieces is installed. Now I´m thinking about a bigger RAM piece. As far as I know the are only 2 slots for the RAM or am I wrong. Is it possible to install two 1GB RAM pieces???
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi
The replacement of the internal devices is not easy and a little bit risky.
I would not recommend replacing the cooling module yourself.
You could damage something on the board and as you know the motherboard is a one of the expensive parts of the notebook. The manuals are not published because such documents are only for the technicians and service partners.
Therefore I think you should ask a service partner for the help because these guys have more experience in such procedures.
I found a online site with the memory modules for Satellite M30-344
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=6958&ft=m&st=3
It says that its possible to update the memory to max 2GB. Therefore I Think its possible to use 2x 1024MB module.
