Cooling fan is not working - How to disasemble Satellite L850

How do you strip a Satellite L850 so as to get to the cooling fan and replace it. The cooling fan became noisy then stopped working and now the laptop is shutting down as it gets too hot.
It is out of Warranty now as well.

Hi
Cooling fan replacement is pretty complicated procedure. Whole notebook must be disassembled and, as you probably know, it should be done by authorized personal only.
Fact is that notebook disassembling procedure must be done by specific order to avoid some damage. Many plastic parts have small plastic holders and if you dont know how to remove certain part can be broken. The whole disassembling procedure is described in maintenance manuals but this document is not a public document and cannot be downloaded.
What to say at this point? You can try to disassemble your machine but you will do this on your own risk. If you dont have experience with this I think it is not so good idea.
Do you know someone who can help you with this?

My pavillion g6 notebook fan is not working how do i fix it?
i found out  a few days ago when i was not hearing the sound my fan usually does because its really loud
and then 1 day i got the message. and is there a way to make it quiet?

    Hey FlowZ,
Here is the Manual that shows you how to remove all the replaceable part in the notebook. Go to page 73 where it tells you the part #'s for the fans depending on what your processor is.
Now, i wouldn't advise you to remove it yourself.
But these are the steps to remove the Fan.
    1. Turn the system board right-side up, with the front toward you.
    2. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board (1).
    3. Remove the Phillips 3.0 x 2.0 screw (2) that secures the fan/heat sink assembly to the system
    board.
    4. Follow the sequence embossed on heat sink to loosen the six Phillips 10.0 x 2.0 captive screws
    (3) that secure the fan/heat sink assembly to the system board.
If you want to replace the fan just go to Hp PartSurfer and search by your product #.
Here is a Document that will help you with Reducing Heat inside the PC.

  • Cooling fan is not working on Satellite Pro A300

    Hi Everyone
I was asked by a friend to repair their Satellite Pro A300, as their CPU Cooling Fan had stopped working even during POST bootup and the laptop would overheat and shutdown. So I thought it could one of three things:
    # Fan is clogged with dust or dirt
    # Fan bearing has failed
    # Fan power cable was loose
So I disassembled the laptop and cleaned the fan/heatsink using compressed air and checked the power connection which was solid, but this did not solve the problem, so I replaced the fan and heatsink with another one that I knew worked from the same model laptop that had a fault motherboard because of the random bios boot-up password bug (out of warranty) but still no joy.
I am beginning to believe that the fan was perfectly fine rather the motherboards cpu temperature sensor(s) that control the fan activation has failed.
Am I correct, in thinking that this is basically, irreparable without specialised tools and my friend will have content themselves with turning the system off every hourish or is there something else I am overlooking?
    Thank you, for any help.

    Hello
Im not a technician but for me it sounds like that fan connector is malfunctioning if you have already replaced the fan and therefore it would be necessary to replace the mainboard
Thats everything what I can say about this Have a look for second mainboard or notebook where you can get a cheap mainboard. Maybe it works. :)

  • Xserve cooling fan's not working properly?

I have a slight problem with my XServe, it's an older PowerPC G4 (Dual 1.0Ghz) with 1.5GB RAM (3x 512MB).
The fan's make a lot of noice, and I don't mean just the "normal" noice you'd hear from the fan's but more a sound as if the fan's can't run properly.
according to Server Monitor, the fan's do run at quite regular speeds.
the machine only has the options for one extra 512MB RAM module and one extra HDD, further it's "as good as it gets" for this model.
I have the additional 512MB RAM module and I intended to put it in today, I noticed the noice when I started the machine as a test to make sure everything was OK before installing the additional 512MB, but it seems, it's not OK.
I got the machine (for free! ^_^) a while ago with some spare parts (basically, two Apple Care part kits, but without the HD's) which included two cooling fan's, so I can replace them.
that is, I could, if I'd know how....
I wonder though, if there really is something wrong, or that the sound is just because the system hasn't ran for a while.
it has been standing still for a few month I think, so it could be the fan's just need to "run in" a bit.
the sound also it not very much standing out, yet it is quite easy to hear there is some sound there which shouldn't be.

I had one of these units. It was a great machine but it was LOUD. The reason behind this was that the fans basically had one speed... FAST AND LOUD.
The latter units had variable speed fans and were a little more quieter.
It bothered me so much that I rigged the unit so the fans would only run at half the speed. It was useless though as the machine got pretty hot. Maybe if it was in an a/c data center it would be different.

  • Cooling Fan is not working properly

I have taken this laptop around one and half year back.iam getting cooling fan exception while starting the windows. Please tell me the solution.

Sometimes it is simply dirt, dust, pet hair, etc clogging the fan. Pick up a can of compressed air and blow out all of the vents, ports &  other openings. Clean it really thoroughly, then check to see if any change before resorting to changing the fan.

  • Upgraded RAM and now Fan is not working.

I have upgraded my RAM to 2GB. (using video guide) Everything appeared OK, but the mac mini was overheating and shutting down after 10 - 15 minutes. It appears that the cooling fan is not working, as far as I can tell. I have checked and cannot find any loose cables, I have tried powering up with and without the fan control cable connected (next to the battery at front of mac).
I have tried the hardware test but this is OK. I have tried some software downloads for monitoring the fan speed, but these appear not to work.
Is there a cable or connect that I should be looking at? DVD, sound and all else seems OK. The memory passes all ram tests.

I think you are referring to the fan control lead, which attaches at the front of the PCB near the battery. Is this the case? I have read that this only controls the speed so you don't have to attach the cable, in fact it suggests that if you leave this disconnected the fan should run at full speed.
This is the only cable that I needed to disconnect, and have tried with it attached and disconnected, with the same issue. I am thinking that the fan is dead, or is being stopped by the magnetic tiles, I guess these are used to create a magnetic field that forces the blades to spin, so I guess if one of these has come away from the unit then it may not work. I can see that I can get a replacement fan for about $29.
Can anyone confirm that these magnetic tiles are integral to the working of the fan?

  • My cpu fan is not working where can i buy it and how much is it

my cpu fan is not working, where can i buy one .

    Please identify your notebook/pc .
Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker.
Post item number 2 as seen on the following example of an HP notebook's barcoded sticker. The barcode on your HP product may be slightly different in appearance, but will still have the important information needed for us to help you.
###Do not post the serial number as it is personal information.###
Post the installed operating system version ( and whether it is 32 or 64-bit ) and post whether the CPU is an AMD or Intel product
Not posting all of the information as requested will delay our responses and slow troubleshooting of the issue that led you to author a thread.
Is your notebook/PC still within its warranty period?
Once you post this information we can help you.

  • My hp laptop's fan is not working

I have an HP Pavilion g6-1145sg. It was working properly all morning, and then I put it to sleep temporarily (about ten to twenty minutes). When I went to turn it on, the screen was black and said something along the lines of
"the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly. Continued operation would not be recommended at this time... may cause unpredictable behaviour that could result in random shut down, data loss or possible system damage."
Then after a few seconds it shuts off completely. There is an option to continue with system resume, and I clicked it once, but it didn't go all the way through to letting me use my laptop properly (I got to my desktop background and it shut down).
This has never happened before, and I have never had any problems with my laptop such as this before. I have had it since last August, and it has worked somewhat alright through until today. Of course, the system lags occasionally, but nothing serious, mostly just aggravating.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi Shwetasonali,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion g6-1145sg Notebook and fan issues. Here is a link to overheating as this might be the cause of the shutting down. If the Notebook has dust on the fans it could be overheating the graphics card. If that does not help at the end of this document it shows you to do a hardware test. The final thing you should try is to update the BIOS.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • My laptop says fan is not working but seems to be working fine!!

    Hi,
My laptop (HP, pavalion dv6) gives me the 90B error which says that the system has detected a cooling fan is not operating correctly. It says that If I press enter  I can continue into the windows but it may cause damage to my laptop. otherwise it automatically turns off after 15 seconds.
The strange thing is that this error doesn't pop up every time i turn on my lapton and I have been using my latptop for months now even when the error shows up and using the fanspeed software my cpu temperature is around 38 celesius when idle. (which seems to be normal)
I had the fan changed yesterday and all the vents cleaned out, still every once in a while the error comes up upon starting.
I also tried the hard reset trick but it didn't help.
So can anyone please help? Shoul I be worried or keep working with my laptop despite the error? Do u have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Help us to help you by posting the following information. 1.  The complete Model Name. or Product Number. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number. 2.  The complete version and name of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ). If your notebook is from the model year 2012 and has UEFI PC Diagnostics, then there is a minimal risk with a BIOS update. You should also be able to safely update the BIOS by running an HP Support Assistant tuneup to see if there is an available update. Download the BIOS update via the HP Support Assistant if there is one available and perform the update.  Make certain that the power adapter is plugged in when you do this and do not remove power until the flash is complete!

  • Cooling fan is not operating properly.

I am using hp pavilion dv6 3123 tx with windows 7 ultimate os installed. I recently updated the bios via hp support assistant  and i don't know whether the bios is updated or not and after two  days ,I got a message while booting the system that the cooling fan is  not operating properly and it also shows the error message code (90b). Is it safe to use the laptop with a external cooler pad and my laptop is not getting heated too much while using with the cooler pad but before updating the bios too my laptop used to get overheated and it took time to boot. Before updating too i got blank screen while booting up and while playing games it  hung too.
I don't know the error message occured was due to updation of bios or not and i also need to know can i use my laptop for final year project work with external cooler pad.can i give my laptop for service.

  • Fan is not working well of a pavilion g6

when starting up my laptop, it reports that my fan is not working well and when it remains on for about 10minutes it starts to be hot at the position where the fan is located. the problem just started.

    Hello
could you sense the fan is running by hearing and hot air blow out from air vent?
    1) if fan is running and running faster when hot, it means fan is working. please check if anything block the air vent or air intake. only Air can flow freely, it can cooling down the CPU.
    2) If Fan is running and air vent is not block and unit is been used long time, maybe the dust. if you have skill, please clean dust, it need remove some cover to disclose fan/heatsink.
    3) update BIOS to latest. of course Fan need to replaced if it is not run, but the running Fan usually don't need to be replaced.
