Cooling fan message on my HP Pavilion g6 (model X16-96072)

how do i fix this problem on my HP Pavilion g6 (model X16-96072).  when I power up I get a message about the cooling fan not operating correctly

The only fix is to get to the cooling fan and be sure it is free to spin (not blocked). If it is free to spin, then the fan is bad and must be replaced. The computer is smart enough not to turn on if there is not a viable cooling fan. Post back for specific instructions if you want to try to do it yourself. Not an easy job.

  • Lap top pavilion dv 7 shutting down Error 908 cooling fan not working

Since two days my HP pavilion dv 7 lap top has been heating up. I started getting warning notice error 908. One of the cooling fans apparnetly is not working properly and the system is shutting down.

If the operation has slowed you might also want to check the hard drive. Go back into the BIOS and look for the hard drive diagnostic test and run it. If the laptop came with Windows 8 you can also go into the "enhanced" diagnostics which is easier to use, with mouse support and such. Tap F2 as you power up instead of F10. You can run a whole bunch of diagnostics in there like memory and hard drive and DVD drive.  Let us know the results.

  • How to Replace cooling fan HP Pavilion g7-1139

Need information on how to replace the cooling fan on my Pavilion g7-1139 series Laptop please .
    This question was solved.

    Hi, Rick:
It appears that the manual for the g7-1300 series would also pertain to yours...same hardware specs...
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5214430&
There is no manual linked to your notebook's support page, and the one for the g7-1139 is for older hardware (1st generation core processors).

  • 3 USB ports missing +5 Volts., HP X18 1027CL Laptop, Win7, USB powered cooling fans, no message.

Has anyone else seen this before.  I have been using this process to supply coooling to the laptop for a long time, but today the cooling fans quit and now none of my USB ports will recognize any of my devices that require +5 Volts.

You should have used the cooling fans with an externally powered hub. You may have fried some of the traces going to the Southbridge chip on the system board of your notebook. This limit for a USB port is in most cases 500 mA. You may have exceeded it.

    Hi,
I have had my laptop for two years or so now, and the fan has become noisy sometimes. If I tap the laptop thw noise stops for a while, I suspect a bearing. I used have the same issue with my old Toshiba Qosmio laptop, and replaced the two cooling fans my self on 3 occasions without any hitch.
I know very little about my HP laptop. How easy is it to replace the fan myself. The part number of the fan. Is there a How TO guide on opening up and replacing etc. Where to get and how much the fan costs.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Here is the support page for your model, you will fins a service manual in the manuals section, it will have instructions and part numbers.

  • NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.

  • Cooling fan inconsistent

I've been getting the "Cooling Fan is not operating properly" message for almost a year now, and have been saving up for a replacement fan and heatsink. Starting in about August, the fan started dying quicker, but accompanied by a grinding noise. Today, I observed the grinding sound smoothly transitioning to what I would consider a good fan speed. It happened twice in the span of an hour and hasn't happened since. Is this a problem with the fan or the heat sink unit? And do I even have to replace the full part?

    Hi @EventideOne ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-6b47dx Notebook and issues with the fan. Here is a document on overheating which could possible cause a fan issue or will cause the Notebook to heat up fast.
Here is a link to troubleshoot fan errors.
In the link, it has to update your BIOS, but I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings which should resolve the fan error message if cleaning does not help.
If that does not help at the end of the document it shows you to do a hardware test.
Please note remove any and all USB devices before troubleshooting. Disconnect all non-essential devices
    Hope this helps.

  • Cooling fan not working...????

when i m turn on my laptop...
there is message display that cooling fan is not working correctly..???
& shut down after 15 sec now what is the problem is happen???

We need the model number of the laptop to give detailed help. One thing you can try is to remove the battery and AC adapter. Bent out a paperclip and stick it in the fan grille to hold the blades. Blow in compressed air. Now put the AC adapter in and start up. Tap F10 to enter BIOS. As you leave reset BIOS to default. This may remove the message. If not the fan needs to be replaced.

  • Cooling fan 902

Suddenly yesterday I turned on my computer and it ran fine but then the screen went black so I turned it off and when I turned it back on it gave me a black screen and said "the bios has detected that your cooling fan is not working...press enter to shut down" i checked online and found a page where i could download an executive file to fix it but idk if that bios update is the correct one b/c i think i have the latest fit my dv6t-2100 which came out in June and the bios fix i saw had a release date in april. How do know of this is th corect fix and how do i check my bios info b/c when i ran the exe file for the fix it gave me a page that wanted me to input the current and new bios versions and id's. Thank you

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the cooling fan giving you a 902 error message. This could be a hardware or software issue. More than likely the fan is going bad resulting in a hardware issue.
Now, before getting this repaired, I would suggest flashing the BIOS. Here is a document showing you how to do so. Now, if this doesn't resolve the issue I would suggest updating the BIOS. Not knowing what notebook you have, you can follow this document which shows you how to update the BIOS.
Also, I would recommend getting some canned air and blowing out the vents in the side and bottom of the laptop. Here is a document  that shows you how to reduce heat from the notebook. If after doing this, you still have problems with over-heating, and your laptop is in warranty, you can take your laptop to a HP Authorized Service Center and ask them to clean the fan and heat sink. You can check your warranty here.
If none of these steps work I would suggest calling HP@8004746836 and see what options they have to repair or replace the notebook.
If you have any more questions let me know.
