Cooling Fan Not Working Properly

Hello,
i have an HP Pavilion g7 laptop and when i turn it on, it states the fan is not working correctly, then shuts down after 15 seconds or continues to windows if you press enter.  I cleaned all the air vent with compressed air and still get same mesage when i power up.  The computer seems to work fine otherwise, but sometimes the fan will run at rather a high speed all night even when it is supposed to be "asleep" with the cover closed. I have to make it hibernate to ensure that it does not run all night like that.  Do I need to replace the fan and if so, how?
Thank you!
Rick

Yeah im having the same problem with the same laptop. Im kinda pissed about this because the first month i owned this laptop, that same fan broke and i had to send in into HP to be replaced. So now here we are again with the same part broken.
My friend also bought the same laptop at the same time as me and his fan also broke. So clearly this is a defective part.  Not only that but they broke my keyboard during the fan replacement.
So HP are you actually going to do anything about this because i was just on your FB page and repeatedly got ignored by the chick TINA who runs the page or whatever.
So im not too happy at this point, so whats gonna be done about this HP?

  • Lap top pavilion dv 7 shutting down Error 908 cooling fan not working

Since two days my HP pavilion dv 7 lap top has been heating up. I started getting warning notice error 908. One of the cooling fans apparnetly is not working properly and the system is shutting down.

If the operation has slowed you might also want to check the hard drive. Go back into the BIOS and look for the hard drive diagnostic test and run it. If the laptop came with Windows 8 you can also go into the "enhanced" diagnostics which is easier to use, with mouse support and such. Tap F2 as you power up instead of F10. You can run a whole bunch of diagnostics in there like memory and hard drive and DVD drive.  Let us know the results.

Well it is either blocked, has a bad BIOS setting or the fan is dead and needs to be replaced. Try sticking a bent-out paperclip in the grille to hold the blades and blast some strong compressed air in there. Also try a hard reset....remove battery and AC charger and hold down power 30 seconds then plug in and try again. Also go into BIOS (F10) and set BIOS to default settings. If that does not work it has to be disassembled and the fan replaced.

  • Error 90B - Fan not working properly?

Hello, this is my first time here so please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong section.
    First, general specs:
    HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    BIOS:  InsydeH20 Version CCB.03.61.09F.21
    Processor:  AMD A6-3400M APU w/Radeon HD (4 cpus ~1.4GHz)
    6g RAM
(If anything else is needed to help me ask, and I shall post it)
Last week I received an error 90B for my laptop's cooling fan.  I was playing Guild Wars 2 and in the middle of playing my laptop shut down suddenly.  When I turned it back on it presented the error I'm asking about.  The thing is, the system wasn't overheating in the slightest and the fan was working just fine before it shut down.  I've tried many fixes proposed on HP's website and from a couple of friends:
-Compressed air blown into the vents
-System restore to a point where the fan worked
    -Hard reset
    -BIOS update
None of those proposed fixes worked.  However, I did find something that fixed it...for about ten minutes.  I fiddled with the Catalyst Control Center and set my CPU power back to its default 1400 MHz, and I shut down my system.  After I restarted it I miraculously didn't get the 90b error!  You could imagine how happy I was.  I shut it down one more time to see if the error was truly fixed, but lo and behold it showed up again.
The only change that could have caused the issue was me downloading a program called SpeedFan to monitor my system's temperature (I did NOT (I repeat, DID NOT) change any settings using the program - I purely used it to monitor the temperature.)
I cannot afford to have a repairman replace or look at my laptop as of now, we have bills to pay and food to get, and I absolutely NEED this computer to function.  I have work to do, and classes to sign up for, and we have no public computers for miles.  Please help me!

Not every fan error is a heat error. There is a sensor that detects a bearing that is wearing out or spinning that is out of round. You can sometimes limp it along for 6 months before the fan absolutely has to be replaced. When it does you will not be able to get past the error.

  • Cooling fan not working...????

when i m turn on my laptop...
there is message display that cooling fan is not working correctly..???
& shut down after 15 sec now what is the problem is happen???

We need the model number of the laptop to give detailed help. One thing you can try is to remove the battery and AC adapter. Bent out a paperclip and stick it in the fan grille to hold the blades. Blow in compressed air. Now put the AC adapter in and start up. Tap F10 to enter BIOS. As you leave reset BIOS to default. This may remove the message. If not the fan needs to be replaced.

  • IBook Cooling Fan not working correctly.

My G4 iBook's cooling fan no longer comes on. It gets really warm after being on for a while, but the fan does not come on.

Yes. The new iBook 12" that I have is confirm to have heating problems with the Toshiba Hard Drive 40GB. I have sold like 20 of them that have such issue. And I have one as well!
I am going to call apple care hotline to find out later.
Because the hard drive is so hot and really shoot up to 70C when I switch on the Processor to highest performance in system preferences setting.
and it will shoot up to 6xC when I am just listening to iTunes for more than a few hours.
I think Apple should change a better hard drive for users.
because I do allot of typing and i could felt my left palm is actually very uncomfortable, especially when i am doing multimedia scripting and typing some database information. It just gets near to a burning state if I keep my palm longer there. Currently, I am using a cool gel pad for eyes to keep the heat in control and my palm away from it. I have a powerBook Pismo before that the bottom of the machine is hot. That's OK, because i work allot on table top even going out. This is annoying with the left palm rest heating problem.
I hope Apple should take note on this serious heating hard drive and change it for all the users soon.

  • System fan not working properly

i have a hp 15 notebook 15-r004ne  laptop and when i turn it on, it states the fan is not working correctly, then shuts down after 15 seconds or continues to windows if you press enter. I dont know what to do now please i need help .
    Answers will be appriciated.
                                                           Thank You.

The fan may simply be clogged with dust, pet hair, etc. Pick up a can of compressed air and use it to blow out all vents really well.
If the problem continues try a hard reset.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-power on

    Hi
I think it's indicating to replace the fan and heat sink assembly.
It occurs due to overheating & this decreased performance.
Try to do a hard reset first.
You may try doing a COMPLETE HARD DRIVE TEST & COMPETE MEMORY TEST from BIOS soon after powering on the system & pressing F10 or F2.
If you want any help, post back.

  • Nvidia 560 Ti one fan not working properly

I have a 560 Ti card which has worked well for the slightly over 3 years that I've had it, although yesterday when I turned my computer on I noticed a noise coming from my computer which turned out to be one of the fans on the graphics cards. It begins spinning, gets up to the speed of the working fan, then there is a sound like a motor revving and it stops spinning completely. This happens when I'm idling on my desk top and my GPU is about 40 degrees celcius.
If I launch a game and my GPU goes up to 50-70 degrees celcius the sound actually stops. The fan in question begins spinning continuously, but at a lower speed than the other fan on the card.
I figure this is some kind of fan motor malfunction but I'm not positive. I know there's programs that can control the fan speed on a GPU, are there any that can control them separately?

no, you can't control them separately
you have to replace the FANs, both at once
    or replace the entire cooler

  • Satellite A665-S6093 Fan not working.

My laptop's processor fan is not working properly, the processor is reaching temperatures of 80 to 90 degrees Celsius and the fan would be running at very low speed. When I first bought my notebook, the fan would be functioning at very high speeds when gaming, but now the computer is overheating and instantly turning off. If anybody can help me, I'd very much appreciate it, my computer is overheating a lot now, and I can barely use it.

Have you tried updating the BIOS?
ACPI Flash BIOS version 1.70 for Satellite L670D/L675D (PSK3JU)
The worry is, of course, that it'll turn off during the BIOS update. If it does, it may require servicing. On the other hand, servicing is what I would also recommend next.
