  • Upgrading to 10.9.4 causes slower startup time & system gets hot and causes fan to run during startup for no reason! Never did this before.

Macbook pro 7,1, osx 10.9.4.. just upgraded from 10.9.3. 10.9.2 was installed fresh in January.
Before that I had snow leopard. Never before has the fan turned on during startup in the 3.5 years I've owned this machine. That means the laptop gets hot? Why would it get hot at startup? And it takes 5-10 seconds longer to boot now too.

Same problem here. I just upgraded from 10.9.3 to 10.9.4 and the fan hasn't stopped since. Before seeing this post I was starting to get VERY worried. Now I'm thinkin..... Apple - ya gotta fix something here!!

  • BIOS 902 cooling fan problem

Today, I powered my laptop and see the error BIOS 902, cooling fan problem. Then the laptop shutdown. However when I tried to power the laptop at third time, It can start up normally and I can use my laptop for more than 8 hours
I found the solution in google that upgrading the BIOS. However the error 902 still there. My laptop always start up normally at third time.
What should I do? Should I bring my laptop to warranty center?
    Thanks for your advance!

  • The virtual machine has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1)

    Hello All,
I came up with the error below, when I am trying to start a virtual machine from my VirtualBox. It was working fine till yesterday, and all of a sudden it's throwing this error. The only change I can think of, is of some automatic windows update which might have changed/updated the registry entries.
    VirtualBox Version: 4.3.20
    Host:     Win7 64 bit
    Guest:   OracleLinux 64 bit
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine DEVM.
The virtual machine 'DEVM' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).  More details may be available in 'E:\VM\DEVM\Logs\VBoxStartup.log'.

Please suggest on how to move forward.

  • Error msg during startup

During startup I get this error msg: Windows cannot find C:\Program Files (X86)Adobe\Reader9.0\Reader\Reader_SL.exe. I was running Adobe10 so I uninstalled that and installed Adobe9 and over that I installed Adobe10. It didn't work, the error msg is still there during startup. Thanks for any help.

Your approach was correct; upgrading from Reader 9 to 10 should have completely uninstalled Reader 9.
Unfortunately it did not; possible fix:
    uninstall Reader 10
    install Reader 9
    uninstall Reader 9
    install Reader 10
However, there is still no guarantee that manually uninstalling Reader 9 will remove that startup item.
What I would do: manually remove that item from the startup list.  There are quite a number of tools that can help you with that: msconfig, CCleaner, Startup Inspector, Autoruns, ...

  • Gray bar under Apple logo during startup with 10.7.2

    Hi everyone,
first-time iMac owner since May 2011, I'm experiencing exactky the same problem described in the article Mac OS X v10.6: Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup, but with two important differences:
it never happened with the original the 10.6 factory-installed, and started to appear after upgrading to 10.7 at the beginning of August
my iMac, included in the HD replacement program announed by Apple in July 2011, had the HD replaced with a new one in October 2011
In addition to the behavious described in the KB article, it's worth noting that, when one finally manages to log in (and the gray bar may take one good minute to disappear, which happens after filling up to approx. 60-70% of its length), the iMac is barely unusable, as the graphic interface is suddenly **** slow and there's a lot of flickering.
Since seeing is believing, please have allok at the YouTube video I made on this "false start", as I named it: see iMac_falsa_partenza / iMac_false_start.
I had already reported the problem to the local assistance, and they had told me it was an evidence of the HD problem indicated by Apple. Then they replaced the HD  (...did they, actually? Probably yes, as the  HD now installed is far noisier than the old one), but the very same day I brought it back from the assistance, at the second start... bam, here's the nasty gray bar again.
I didn't further report the problem to the assistance because my faith in their capability has cracked and because the simple replacement of the HD took them  three full weeks. But this "false start" issue really, really bothers me a lot, as it happens every other day.
How can I have some good Apple expert technicians take this problem seriously and help me solving it?
As a first-time owner of a Mac, I have onestly to say I'm much, much disappointed by this story... Thanks anyone for any help.

Heatsinks don't need to be changed. They need to be cleaned, which you've done.
It's not clear from your post, if your fan problems persisted after you cleaned it. If they have, sounds like the fan is failing to me.
Try one these. Got the part number from here. From your model's parts list here.
Please let us know how it works out. Good luck.

  • Cooling fan problem

Please my laptop is having issues with the cooling fan. And now it is no more turning on. Please what can i do for it to work properly??

first, check if there are any obstruction in the vent.
if not performing BIOS update resolves that kind of issue its not a hardware issue.
if after BIOS update same issue persist, check the setting of the fan in BIOS (f10) and check the FAn setting is on.
contact HP for repair if issue persist

  • Sever hangs during startup with registration of some servlets

Sever hangs during startup if some specific servlets are being registered.
The same servlets go OK in windows environment.
It's an AIX 4.3.3 with jdk 1.2.2 IBM build ca122-20001026.

I tried doing the verbose boot and a lot of codes started showing up. I don't really know how to read stuff like these but I've read 3 shutdown causes or something like that. And it disappeared to blue then grey screen then it asked for language selection, I clicked english, then it says, if you want to fix your disk click DISK UTILITIES in the Utilities options. I did and still, didn't see anything listed on the First Aid tab.
I'm just wondering, what will happen if I reinstall my OS? I'll lose all the saved files and datas right? Is it like restoring it to factory settings and will just bring my laptop back to normal? I don't have any back ups for my file, is there any way that I could get some even if I can't access my desktop?

  • Hardware test bypassed during startup with yosemity

I have a mid 2007 20" iMac that I just rebuilt with a new 1 TB hard drive and 4GB of ram. Afterwards I upgraded to Yosemity 10.10.1. Today (3 days latter) it froze up, tried everything but had to hold power button in to shutdown. After restarting I tried doing the hardware test thats in my operator's manual holding the "D" key during power up. It was bypassed and opened straight to my desktop. Can I perform a hardware test with the new operating system?

That old AHT requires that you boot the computer from the AHT disc that came with your computer when it was new.
You might look at this article for how to get the old method back: Get Apple Hardware Test Boot Mode Back on Some OS X Lion Macs.

  • My HP-HDX-18-1200 has a cooling fan making noise on startup after being off for overnight.

I don't have any documentation which shows how to open up the unit and change that fan.  If documentation is availble please either post the pdf or send to me please.
I can change the fan, as I have been building PC for 20 years.

    Hi,
You might try looking at this document.  It is the Maintenance and Service Manual for the HDX-18 series, it's not listed under manuals for your model, so it may not be exactly right, but it should be close since it is listed for earlier versions of hte HDX-18 series.

  • Problem creating Recovery Discs with HP Probook 4530s Notebook PC.

I have a HP ProBook 4530s Notebook computer my daughter gave me. It is 5 months out of warranty. I had to recover it using Recovery Manager and the recovery partition.  The OS is W7 Home Premium 64 bit.
An HP support document says that I can create Windows 7 recovery discs using DVD-R media. It says to click Start, then All Programs, then Recovery Manager.
The problem is there is no Recovery Manager in All Programs. I want to create recovery discs instead of relying on the recovery partition.
I called HP and they had no explanation. I asked them if the instructions were wrong or were they right but for some reason Recovery Manager was missing from All Programs. All they could tell me is to recover it using the recovery partition by restarting the computer and then pushing F11 for the Recovery Manager. That works to recover the computer but NOT to create recovery discs.
Is there any way to create Recovery discs?

    Hi
Not without the recovery manager, which is not included on every HP business notebook.
My HP Elitebook 6930p came with a recovery partition but no recovery disks, recovery manager program to make recovery disks.
    And it cannot be downloaded.
If you live in the USA, call HP at this number, 1-800-334-5144 and order a set of recovery disks.
You will need to provide the model number and serial number to the customer support rep.
Since the notebook is out of warranty, there will be a charge of $10 for the set of recovery disks.

  • Thinkpad Yoga cooling fan issue

    Hi,
my TPY had been working pretty well for several weeks but last few days I´m experiencing an annoying issue - the cooling fan doesn´t engage when TPY gets hot under load, even when the core gets to 100 degrees Celsius and all the bottom and right side of keyboard and palmrest is really very hot. The cooling fan seems OK, during BIOS update it engaged. There must have been some kind of recent "update" that messed it up. Any advices how to fix it, please?
    Thanks, Tomas from Prague
P.S.: I´ve gone through the power management settings - the active cooling set on - no change. In the BIOS there´s no feature to control the cooling fan  :/

I had very similar issues with the latest driver; device would disconnect, freeze, interfere with keyboard, display as "disabled" in device manager.
I simply just removed the synaptics driver and use the touchpad as a standard PS/2 device. Vastly improved stability but however you lose two finger scroll and gestures.
I also am looking for a better solution.
(I also disabled the active protection and transition software from lenovo - much better keyboard/touchpad performance and stability).

  • Freeze during startup if magic trackpad not available

Down in SF last week and bought a magic trackpad and installed it. worked fine.
Got home and turned on my MBP; it froze during startup with only the finder window open, no dock, and not much else. mouse pointer couldn't click on things, etc. I tried restarting and restarting into my test (bare bones) account. No luck.
Then I wondered if the problem was that my new magic trackpad was there and turned on. That was the problem. As soon as I got the trackpad and turned it on, my system completed normal startup.
Anyone else have this experience. This seems like a bug.

Today I tried to replicate my problem and couldn't. Either by turning off the trackpad before I shut down or else while my computer was off.
So apparently my incident was an isolated one.
