Cooling Fans running continuously since Mountain Lion Upgrade on MacBook Pro

Are there others who have a problem with the cooling system of their Mac since the Upgrade?
My Fans keep on turning at full throttle since the upgrade regardless of the number of applications that are open or active.
Have this issue on my older MacBook Pro 2.4 Santa Rosa (Macbook 3,1) which serves as my test mule.
Have not tried the upgrade on my other machines yet.

You may have some incompatible third-party software that's causing this. You may be able to identify it by opening Activity Monitor and looking for something that is using a large percentage of the CPU.
You could also try resetting the SMC, which can sometimes help with these sorts of problems.

This doesn't work for me at all. I tried entering exactly the same information that I used to set up my regular email account and I'm still getting an error message. I even tried switching to using my gmail account and neither one worked. Then it got hung up and had to repair my database! I have a lot of photos on my Mac (thank goodness they're backed up) and I was really sweating it for a moment.
Apple is so easy until it's not. I find this to be really aggrevating and I'm irritated that it hasn't been fixed. In fact I did an online search and someone described this same problem in detail and it was exactly what was happening to me. Same error messages.
I'm frustrated that Apple keeps updating it's operating system and then we go through these glitches.
And while I'm at it, I have never had such a frustrating time using my login information as I have to get into this forum! Why do they make it so difficult? There's just something about the way it's worded that get's me messed up every time. Meanwhile, at least get iPhoto fixed!

Any IMAP e-mail account can be accessed from all devices just fine. You don't need to upgrade from Snow Leopard to be able to access an IMAP e-mail account. However, Snow Leopard won't have built-in support for iCloud. As mende1 points out, you can still read your iCloud e-mail from Snow Leopard, but you have to set it up manually. You won't be able to do things like sync your iCloud calendar or addresses with iCal or Address Book on the iMac, though.

Please google search for "Mountain Lion disk crash" before upgrading you mac pro. You might need to replace you Mac hard drive after the upgrade.So many people had the same problems including me.
Be aware of the Mountain Lion upgrade problem.

No, since you have already "purchased" (even if for free) 10.8 on the App Store with your AppleID, you own it, so you can reinstall as much as you want.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. Why does mountain lion make my macbook pro stall?

Hi Is anyone else having a problem with Mountain Lion? My Macbook Pro was very stable woth OSX 10.6. I updated recently and now the round egg timer equivalent appears regualrly, requiring me to reboot.
I thought that I had left all this behind when I moved from PC?
Any ideas for a cure anyone?

Launch the Activity Monitor utility, set the list at the top to "All Processes", then click on the "% CPU" heading until the top CPU users are at the top of the list. Continue to work until things slow down, then see what's consuming CPU time.

I should just change the OS and leave all your apps and data alone. That said, if any of your apps are old and use Rosetta (ppc apps), they won't run under Mountain Lion.
Make sure you take a good Time Machine or Clone backup before you convert.

hi! i am trying to reinstall mountain lion on my new 13" macbook pro retina, however, i cannot proceed and i encounter the message "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer." please help!

I've called Apple Care and they learned me to the following in order to complete a clean install from Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro Retina (otherwise it won't work): http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11273
But, like Clinton said, shouldn't your rMBP come with Moutain Lion on it? And if so, why can't you upgrade to 10.8.2 because I could (with software update) - but my problem was to clean reinstall ML on it from the App Store (that you stil can't do with a rMBP btw).
And a small question off-topic: How long is your (average) shutdown time on your rMBP 13"?
