  • MacBook Pro Cooling Pad for Gaming

Ok, I'm having problems with MacBook Pro overheating when I'm playing a game and the FPS drops very low, so does anybody know the best solution for this situation?

Cooling pads will not work as there are no ports to remove hot air on the bottom of the laptop. The only vents on the macbook/macbook pro line are in the back side of the computer. As there are no cooling pads that have functions to suck hot air/flow cold air to that specific vent, all conventional cooling pads are useless. the most you will do with normal cooling pads/gaming colling pads, is possibly lower external temperature by 2 degrees at the most.  unless you manage a way to function the computer without a bottom case, use a desk that has a built in liquid nitrogen colling spot, or drill holes into the bottom of your laptop, cooling pads are useless for macbook pros.
sorry to tell you this, but trust me, i've gone through this with many people and genius' and 1800 apple reps.
best advice, use your laptop in a well ventilated area and air out your vents with dust spray cans regularly.
oh and do not use on your lap. dust is composed of fibers, skin and other foreign objects.  using it on your bed, your clothes, etc increases the chance of dust build up inside your computer.  use on a solid surface. Glass desks (like i have) are able to disipate the heat best IMO.

  • Cooling Pads - Compatible with MSI Gaming Notebooks

    Hi,
I purchased a MSI GT70 Dominator.  I also purchased a cooling pad as gaming tends to warm systems up and thus increase the likelihood of system problems.
I was excited as both arrived within a couple days of each other.  I sat the notebook on the cooling pad and was saddened to see that it skated around on top if it, no grip at all.
On the underside of the Dominator there are additional support feet and ridges at the back of the system around the fan vent on the bottom.  Those interfere with the four rubber feet's ability to grip the surface of the cooling pad.
My question is whether anyone has been successful in locating a compatible cooling pad for use with the GT70 Dominator, or any other similar MSI systems.
    Thanks!

I hand built my own cooling pad/dock for my GT70. Works great, even in the most demanding games with everything turned up (and seriously overclocked) I barely ever get to 70C, and usually top out at 65C.

  • What is the best cooling pad for a MacBook Pro

I use the laptop in a variety of settings.  It gets really hot on my lap and was wondering if anyone has used a cooling pad they like for this problem.

I'm sure someone will jump in with the best of the best. FWIW the MBP is not a laptop it is a notebook. And as you've probably read in your User Guide does not belong on your lap.

  • Should i but a cooling pad for my Macbook Pro with Retina display 15 inch?

    Getting really hot

Cooling pads don't do enough as they only effect the bottom of the machine and the heat is being generated inside and radiates upwards.
First you might have a hardware problem.
    1: Do a Hardware Test #3
Step by Step to fix your Mac
and write down what it says if anything, that will tell if there is a dead sensor or fan.
2: Consider taking it in for a free evaluation at Apple
3: Look at your CPU usage in Activity Monitor (Utilities folder) if there are any runaway processes.
4: Uninstall always on anti-virus, Apple installed one for all 10.6-10.8 Mac's. Use ClamXav for Windows malware.
5: Decrease the rooms ambient temperature with a air conditioner, what this will do is draw cool air into the machine and be about 1000% better than cooling pads ever could be.
6: Decrease the use of heavy CPU or GPU using software.

  • Best cooling pad for Macbook pro 15" with retina (2013)?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook pro 15" with retina display, bought in 2013 and I started playing Starcraft on the machine. It becomes extremely hot, almost unbearable to touch and after searching online, I've been told that overheating of macs is relatively common. It is also extremely noisy. Firstly, is this something that I should be worried about, i.e. is it normal? (it is still under warranty) Also, I was looking to get a cooling pad- which one would you recommend? I couldn't find many macbook pro w/ retina display specific ones, so I thought maybe a generic laptop cooling pad?
There are so many to choose from and I don't know where to start! Perhaps the Cooler Master NotePal X3?
    Thank you for your help!

    is it normal?
Is the game rated for the GPU on the Mac (look at the game's specs)?  If not, then I would not run it on that Mac.
If it is rated for the GPU on the Mac, then no, it is not normal, and I would have the machine looked at, after running the hardware test that came with it.
See my tip about MacBook Pro heat:
kmb kmbp: How to deal with MacBook Pro and MacBook heat?
The GPU is the Graphics Processor Unit.
A cooling pad might help, but it might also mask a more serious problem.      I've used this cooler on Powerbooks before:
    http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Notebook-Cooler-USB-Powered/dp/B0000BVYTV
But only outside warranty.   Mind you, because of the heat, sometimes some of the darker markings on the edge of the cooler and come off on the bottom of the notebook.  Hence why I would only use it outside of warranty, since such marks may make the AppleCare representative think you might have done something to damage it.

  • Sattelite A500-ST6647; Need a Laptop cooler pad

The Zalman series seem to have the best user reviews, but the fan holes on these models stop about 3/4 of the way up the pad. The computer I ordered (not yet received) has at least one vent near the computer battery cell that may not benefit from this cooling pad.
My computer will have a 12 cell battery, which will raise the computer at the back, and I assume, provide extra air circulation that a computer with a flush battery would not, so I may not even need a cooler.
If anyone can recommend a laptop cooler that is well made and fits the vent schematic at the bottom of this computer I would appreciate the advice.
    Thanks, waxx

    Good advice from all ...
There are a couple of reasons to use a cooler pad. The first is that you are using a laptop on your lap and the built in fan air intake is on the bottom of the machine so that your leg blocks it - either a cooler or a simple tray will fix this problem. The second is that you have an older laptop and the laptop's heatsink is full of dust bunnies - a cooler will help but a little maintenance would work a lot better..

  • Cooling pad for W510

My CPU in my W510 is constantly throttling back during heavy 3D gaming, causing stuttering when the CPU and GPU get too hot. (This is a good thing!)  This has recently started after the newest BIOS updates.  Stuttering usually happens after an hour or so of gameplay.  Sometimes I have had crashes. (Don't know if it is related) I was thinking of buying a laptop cooling pad.  Would this be able to keep my computer relatively cooler, for longer?  Any reccomendations? Or are they a complete hoax?

It depends, some machine with cooling pad solve the problem. For mine, it didn;t work. It should be around few degrees cooler
    1. The easy way out: (May reduce or eliminate overheat)
Contact Lenovo Support, if they can't solve the issue, they would replace to W520 if they are serious about customer service. If not, they would allow u to refund.
    2. The hard way: (Remove heatsink, reapply thermal, Bent pint, install heatsink repeatly) ~ Adda's post

  • Computer Heat Cooling Pad

will a cooling pad help with the over heating problem if so whick ones work the best?

I've heard good things about xpads ( http://www.xpad4laptop.com/ ), which I did not hear about before buying my Vantec Lapcool 4. It works well enough for me, but it is kind of cumbersome/annoying to bust it out, hook it up to my laptop, set it on top, blah blah blah. The xpad is appealing due to its simplicity, but it is also passive, so it probably won't be dismissing the heat as effectively as something active like the Lapcool. There is a very noticeably difference between using the notebook without active cooling and using it with it. The bottom and top portions of the laptop are much cooler to the touch when sitting on top of an active cooling solution.

  • Best Cooling Pad for rMBP 15

What's the best cooling pad for my 15 rmbp?  I know apple laptops require a certain kind.

Apple's documentation suggests you keep your portable on a flat hard surface, to allow air to circulate and cool. Putting it on a blanket, your legs, a pillow or other soft surface would defeat that.
That being said, when my son had a problem with overheating his MacBook - he damaged the fans by spilling bourbon on it - he used a bag of frozen peas. He didn't tell me what brand.
    Best of luck.

  • IBook cooling pad?

    Hello everyone.
I recently purchased a iBook G3 500 mhz, 576 mb of ram off of ebay. It came with all of the manuals, software disks (OS 9 and OS X) and it even shipped in the original box! Now I use it for mostly word processing and just a little bit of web browsing, nothing to intensive. What im afraid of though is logic board failure. I have heared that these laptops have a high risk of having logic board problems and I want to do everything that I can do help minimize this risk. I read somewhere that a cooling pad would help? I saw some at walmart for around 20 dollars, so if its going to help the machine run cooler it must be good right? anything else that might decrease the risk of logic board problems?
    Thanks in advance!

I would recommend the one you saw at Wal-Mart. I use a Targus laptop desk myself (bought at Wal-Mart).
The main advantage for the iBook G3 is not the "cooling" property, but the fact that you can pick up the iBook and laptop desk together, thus avoiding flexing the case which is the suspected major cause of the failure of the logic board's graphics chip.
If you pick up the iBook in your left hand alone, as I often do mine, avoid picking it up by the left front corner. Instead, pick it up in the center, under the trackpad, or pick it up with both hands to avoid flexing the case. From what I've observed, the iBook 500 MHz model is less prone to logic board failure than the 800 MHz model (but none are immune).
    Good luck with it!

  • I would like to know which cooling pad will be suitable for my HP Pavilion 15-E016TX

please suggest with some compatable colling pads as per my model

Also if your working on a desktop make sure it is free of clutter so there is proper airflow around your laptop that will do more to keep your laptop running at optimim temperature. Yes it will blow hot air but that is the nature of cooling system for laptop unlike a Desktop/Tower. Always keep the ports/vents where you fans are free of clutter and stuff near it as it performs best that way. Heat remember is the enemy of laptop and blocking the vents/ports will shorten your laptop lifespan faster then it would be otherwise. I use my laptop on desk flat with the feet giving the clearance it needs and it runs fine it does give off heat but that is what you want it to do that means it is working. Now for Gaming laptop that a totally different animal it should be designed for effective cooling and if not that is a bad design and no amount of cooling pad will fix it. So keep all vents/ports on your laptop unblocked this will insure airflow dynamics work in your laptop optimum cooling. Just proping the back up with square erasures will do more then a cooling pad as that will block your latop fan from working properly as well. Now if it was a vented rack that it sits on that is even better that will insure there is plenty of air flow under the laptop to pull the air in and keep the Processor and or Video Processor properly vented.

  • Which cooling pad should I get for my MacBook Pro?

I have the mid 2012 Mac Pro (the $1500 one) and now it is going to get hot in my country.Like around 110F and it is 92 and my Mac is starting to get really hot.So I was thinking of which cooling pad I should get.

  • Cooling pad for Mac Mini

Does anyone uses cooling pad with a Mac Mini. If so, could you please provide some suggestions? I am not looking for a bigger one, rather it should occupy minimum space and fits the mac mini. Thanks.

The devices available to allow a Mini to set on its side, appear viable if practical in
the space you have available for your gear. An older Mini I have can stay on its
side without a holder-upper; the newer one is too thin that direction to allow it.
For now, I've found that four similar height re-used items that can fit under the
corners of the Mini, keep it elevated further off the desktop, help keep it cooler.
These could be durable thermal plastic, or just cut-offs of similar shape metal
so the computer sits flat. Since the newer Mini has that round base, if you do
set up something to raise it off the surrounding surface, take that into account
because that may also add to instability should the items be dissimilar.
I'd considered, if available super cheap (at second hand store, etc) that one of
those 'aluminum food thawing trays' but square and not rectangular, may work.
It would raise the unit up, while Mini would still rest on the round base, though.
Since heat rises; the exit is in the back of the Mini, intake is around the base.
The bottom does not get all that hot, due to internal air-flow & metal conductivity.
I prefer my method of raising the entire unit up, flat, above the desk. In part this
was due to concerns of spillage of liquid near the Mini, while on a desktop. An
upside down small metal pan, or a baking rack may do, too. And I'd want to be
able to filter dust from all air going into the Mini - without restricting the flow, too.
Anyway, other than one of the command-line tests to run up all the cores at once
to test it, there isn't much I've done to make a quad-core reach top temperatures.
Hopefully yours works OK and doesn't get near the thermal maximum...

  • W520 on Series 3 Mini-Dock - Cooling Pad?

Does anyone have a good solution for a cooling pad which integrates well with the W520 attached to the Series 3 Mini-Dock  (170Watt)?  Did a search on cooling pads for this configuration and couldn't find a solution.  I just received my new W520 and will be doing heavy duty video editing and transcoding professionally.  I'm not sure I'll need the cooling pad but looking for solutions just in case I do.  Thanks.

    Hi, djones18
Normally, people would not use cooling pad with a more reliable business grade laptops, unless it is really necessary for your workload or any issue with the system.
If you are doing heavy duty video editing and transcoding, you can try push the internal fan to the maximum first with TPFanControl. Set Manual and Fan Speed to 64.
    http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html
The Fan would be louder, but your machine would be way cooler. However, after your work, set back Fan Speed to BIOS. As running the highest fan speed all the way would make the fan worn out faster.
If it still very hot even with the highest fan speed, you could try to get a mid-range to high-end cooling pad, but I am unsure how effective it is.
    Cheers
    Peter
