Copied music from CDs won't open in itunes

I copied CDs onto my hard drive using Windows media.  I changed the default settings to iTunes, but when I click 'play' or 'open with', the music will not open with iTunes.  The music works fine in Windows media and Real Player.  I have imported CD's into iTunes before, and iTunes will play all the other music I have.

What format have you imported them as? Is it a format that iTunes can use?
Just curious... but why are you using Windows Media Player to import CDs if you have an iPod and iTunes?

  • HT1473 Copy music from CDs to iTunes library without a CD drive

I have a Macbook without a CD drive (purchased in winter 2012-13); my husband has a Mac desktop (few years old). I'd like to copy some music from CDs to my iTunes library for listening on my iPhone (4S) and Mac (and, perhaps, one day, iPad). My husband says that if we insert one of the CDs into his Mac and copy/import it, it will only go into HIS iTunes library. If that's so, how can I get the music from his library into my Macbook.
If that's not so, how do we specify where the copied files should go so that I can access them? I'm not totally Apple-savvy, so please bear with me on this!?

Import them into his computer, then copy them from his iTunes Music folder to your computer via Home Sharing - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 - (probably the easiest), file sharing, or an external storage device such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive. If you use any method other than Home Sharing, just drag the tracks into the iTunes window on your computer.
You posted in the iTunes for Windows forum, by the way. Just FYI for future questions.
    Regards.

  • HT4796 Can I copy musics from my ipod shuffle to my iTunes?

I have musics in my ipod shuffle which had been played for many years. The copy in my iTunes of old PC had been lost.
Is it possible to copy all these musics from ipod shuffle to my new iTunes in new PC?

iPods (except iPod touch which is really an iPhone minus the phone) only sync with your computer running iTunes.  So it needs to go through the computer.
Since you loaded the iPod from your computer's iTunes library, you can just load the same songs from your iTunes library to the iPad.

  • How to copy music from my ipod to a new itunes?

I used my friend's itunes sometime ago, then i have all his music on my ipod. now i want to use my itunes, but the problem is, if i sync my ipod using my itunes, then all the previous songs that exist on my ipod that i got from my friend's itunes will be disappearing. is there any way to copy music from ipod to itunes?
    this system is frustrating...
    anyone can help me?

    Welcome to AD!
See, that's why they made iPods to really only sync in one direction - from PC to iPod.
The artists want you to buy your own copy of those songs. You're not supposed to share with your friends!
There are plenty of posts here on AD about getting stuff off your iPod. Search the forums for posts by Zevoneer.

I am not an expert, but assuming that you have a Windows or Mac folder with music in it and want to move that to a new laptop, I think you have to import it into iTunes. iTunes needs to associate each file with a link, so copying it over will not associate a link.
Delete the files and try importing.

  • How i copy music from my laptop to itunes

How i copy music from my laptop (Asus) to my  itunes.

Nothing is copied, simply import the media.
Either drag the folder containing the content into the open iTunes window or via iTunes select File > Import File/Folder and select the folder containing the content.

  • I cannot get non-purchased music (from CDs) from iTunes on my desktop to my iPad

Trying to get music from CDs that I have in iTunes on my desktop computer to my iPad. When I sync it only copies purchased songs.

  • Music from CDs that is on my iPod won't transfer to my iTunes library on a different computer I used to use but all music bought from iTunes will? How do I fix this?

In the past to get music from CDs onto my iTunes library and onto my iPod was all easy and fine, as you would know if you have done such a thing before. I used to use a different laptop for all my music stuff to the desktop I have to use now as the other one is broken. It is an authorised computer on my iTunes, so my issue has got nothing to do with that. When I got this desktop (it is quite an old one, if that makes any difference), i had to download iTunes and put all my music into my library to back it up.
However, all music that I had bought physically that is currently on my iPod (CDs) WON'T transfer into my new library on the desktop, but all music that I had bought digitally (iTunes) WILL transfer.
This has led to about 300 missing songs in my library and means I can't transfer all of my music onto a different device (as I am trying to transfer all my music onto an iPhone 3).
I have tried countless things. All of that "File > Devices > Transfer purchases" stuff WILL. NOT. WORK. I tried copying the music into a file on the desktop and then adding said file into the library, but it won't let me paste any music.
If someone were to help me in transferring the music I so dearly love then I would be eternally grateful.
    Thank you

    Hello there, gleab.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the ways to import content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Also keep in mind which formats can be added:
You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Copy music from iPod to new PC

I have a new PC (old PC was stolen). I would like to copy music from my 30gb iPod classic to the new PC. I have followed all of the instructions for restoring the music, but when I connect my iPod and search from "My Computer", the only folders visible are: Calendars, Contacts, Notes, and Photos. There is no iTunes folder. Any idea what is going on?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • How can I copy music from iTunes to a 2nd iPhone 5?

I have my own iPhone 5 that i have synced and set up with my itunes on my macbook pro.  My wife recently got an iphone 5 (thru her work) that i want to copy music from my itunes library to her phone.  We share the same itunes acct and she is able to make purchases with it and download songs that i have purchased via itunes to her phone.  I would like to manage and copy over addiontal music (most of which i had bought on my own and imported into itunes) and copy playlists etc to her phone.
She has not synced her phone to my (or any) computer. When i hook up her iphone to my macbook and open itunes, it prompts me to "set up new iphone" either as a brand new phone or from a backup.  can i get around this, so i can manage the music on her iphone without deleting and "setting up from scratch her phone"?  I have read that i can manually manage everything on her phone separately from my phone... so her apps aren't on my phone and vice versa?  I really just want to put my music on there.
I have heard of some other apps (ie songbird) but prefer to keep everything working under itunes.
    Thanks

Not brand new... New to that Mac's iTunes. For registration if you will...
Setup the iPhone as a new device to get past the initial part. iTunes will know that the device is already set up and you can go from there.

  • Is there a way of copying music from the ipod

my pc got wiped so i need a way of copying music from my ipod to itunes is there a way?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do i copy music from my ipod classic to itunes on my macbook pro?

I have a lot of music on my ipod classic from an old computer I no longer have.  How do I copy this to my itunes library on my macbook pro so that when i synch my ipod and my computer, the music already on the computer won't be wiped out and replaced with what's in my itunes library on my macbook?  I was thinking of burning a cd from my ipod classic, then copying the cd to my computer itunes, then synching.  Is there an easier way?

How do I backup ALL of my iPad content onto a newly purchased MacBook Air? I can't backup up apps or music from CDs through the device backup function.

First you need to authorize your MBA with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad. This will transfer/copy all iTunes content on your iPad that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
Photos on your iPad that were transferred from your old computer need to be transferred from your old computer to your MBA.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal if you aren't syncing this content over the air with an iCloud account, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your MBA. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provided a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your MBA with iPhoto or the Image Capture application.
