Copy address acting different since Snow Leopard

When clicking on an person's name (in blue) in a "To" or "CC/BCC" field, the pop-up menu has a 'copy' selection. That used to just copy the email address itself(ie: [email protected]).
Now it copies the email address and the persons name (ie: Name Lastname <[email protected]>)
If I don't catch that and edit it, I will make the email unsendable. Because "Name Lastname" is not a valid address.
This is another new happening in SL.

Well sometimes people like me need to do that because it just isn't always clear (to me anyways) what the O.P. is asking or has done or what is the O.P.'s system configuration if those factors would truly weigh into the response. In your case, especially since it was like just the previous night since I had read that article, it was crystal clear to me what your issue was.
Believe me, I'd rather be at level 3 with way fewer posts than what I have now...my points/posts ratio is only a woeful 1.2...dang it! With this post, another decrease in the ratio
But glad to see that you've regained your lost functionality, though. I was really happy to run across that article myself -- I don't use full name on my outbound email just my email address and I hate full names in the "from" fields of inbound email and I wish I could do away with full names in email without having to manually edit on a case-by-case basis. So that article provided me with one small victory in my anti-full-name quest.

  • Import contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion

How do I import my contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion (on MacBkPro Retina). I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. What should I do?

My mistake - my groups are there! They transferred perfectly. Still getting used to my wonderful new machine. Sorry to bother you!

  • Since Snow Leopard, Mac Pro will not sleep with Apple wireless keyboard

I have an odd problem, now on 2 Mac Pro (Nehalem) with 10.6.1:
Since Snow Leopard, the system will not sleep as long as a) the user is logged on (any users/profile) and b) the Apple aluminum wireless keyboard is 'attached'.
If I log off first, sleep works fine. If I turn the keyboard off first, it's fine. But if hitting 'sleep' when logged on, the screen turns dark, sleep process begins, but the system comes right back (with a note 'keyboard disconnected'.
It's as if the keyboard disconnects after sleep, but the system still monitors it, and wakes up.
Note: Wake for bluetooth devices IS NOT ENABLED!
Here is the console log (relevant info):

Does anyone have any idea? While on, the keyboard never disconnects - i.e. I don't have any other issues with BT or the keyboard (this is the 2nd I tried).
Also, my apologies for double-posting this earlier in a different forum; cheers!
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    and thanks for posting that.
That's too bad. I am probably going to log off if needed, rather than going wired, but I can't believe that this might be more prevalent than just me and there is no 'fix'...
    Anyone ?!
    Thanks as always,

  • Should I keep my copy of Mac OS X Snow Leopard?

I have recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion which I am very happy with and have no compatibility issues.  I have a retail copy of Mac OS X Snow Leopard and was wondering whether it would be wise to sell it?  My understanding is you need Snow Leopard to upgrade to Lion so if I ever have any issues in the future will I still need my copy of Snow Leopard?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Personally I would keep it.

  • Copy and paste broken in GoLive CS since Snow Leopard

    Hi all,
Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, there has been weirdness happening within GoLive CS in terms of the copy and past function. It took me a while to sort out just what was happening, but here's the gist: if you paste text anywhere in GL - a link into the link palette, code or text onto a page - by first selecting other text to replace, then attempting to paste over it with what's on the clipboard - the oddest thing happens. There is no visible change to the highlighted text, but it - and not the text on your clipboard - is now "copied". The text that was on the clipboard is now replaced by the highlighted text you wanted to replace. Argh!
The only solution is to always delete old text before pasting - never to attempt to "paste over".
As I say, I noticed this only since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Since then, I've simply adjusted to the situation since it doesn't happen anywhere else and I'm not going to upgrade my Adobe suite in the foreseeable future - it meets my needs in every other respect.
But I'm surprised to not find any mention of it in the forums here, especially after all this time. Assuming it's to do with some interaction between GL CS and SL, I'd have thought there would be a patch or something by now.
    Anyone else experience this problem?
    Adam

    CosmoCanuck wrote:

Adobe is not going to release any patch for a discontinued program, especially one as old as CS. There were two releases since that one.
Snow Leopard has incompatibilities with many programs (not just GoLive) that ran well in previous systems. You might find less surprises by running your previous OS.

I don't understand why this is happening, are there any other persons with this problem? Or maybe the solution

    Hello, all...
I thought I'd share our experiences, in the hopes that they might save someone else the time and effort of repeating troubleshooting steps we've already done.
We're having similar PPTP VPN issues since we upgraded three of our machines to Snow Leopard. (Actually, by upgrade, I should say that we "nuked and paved" all three machines and did a completely clean install of 10.6)
We are trying to connect to a pfSense firewall's PPTP VPN. When using OS X 10.5.8, all three machines connected to this VPN without problems, no matter where we were connecting from. Once we moved these three machines to Snow Leopard, things went haywire.
Because of how our campus network is configured, we need to connect to the VPN from a variety of locations, including from the same subnet as the firewall's Red (WAN) interface. Here's what happens: If we're on the same subnet as the firewall's Red (WAN) interface, connections to the VPN either fail before Mac OS X gets to the "Authenticating" portion, or they authenticate, connect for a few seconds and then disconnect. Once that machine disconnects or fails the first time, you cannot connect to the firewall's IP address with ANY type of traffic, (VPN, HTTP, ping) from the "failed" machine. (other machines still seem able to connect) The only way you can get new connections to be accepted from the "failed" machine is to reboot the pfSense box. Then, it's the same issue all over again...
If we're outside the subnet of the red (WAN) interface, then it appears we can connect to the VPN successfully. I remained connected for three hours this weekend, on my MacBook Pro running 10.6.1, without a hiccup.
Before narrowing it down to occurring only on our Snow Leopard machines, we installed pfSense onto a completely different server just to eliminate that as a variable. No dice...same issue.
If anyone finds a solution to this problem, we're all ears!

  • VPN addresses that worked in Snow Leopard doesn't work in Lion configurations

    Hi!
I need to connect to a VPN (PPTP) to access some link addresses that are configured through this VPN.
I can connect to VPN in both OS (Snow and Lion), however only in the Snow Leopard I can access correctly the links that I need, on Lion I get this error:
    Host xxxxxxxxxxxxxx not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
On Lion I can ping to IP address but I can't ping to host name. I already set the hosts file and it's not working. I tried to use OpenDNS and it's not working also.
Anyone has some idea? I already spent more than a week searching on google to a possible solution but unfortunatly I can't get.
    Thanks!

    To answer my own question...
When using the method where both computers are hooked together with a single ethernet cable --
Go to SnowLeopard machine and set IPv6 to automatic, and select away from DHCP to manual.  It will do a self-assigned IP address.
Got to the Yosemite machine and configure it's ethernet to IPv6, DHCP to manual, and put in an IP address one different from the self-assigned address that the SL machine took.  We also changed the net mask to 255.255.0.0 from 255.255.255.0, and set the server to the .0 of the self-assigned class C.  Those last two steps might not be necessary.

  • ICloud address book sync for Snow Leopard

Mountain Lion won't run on my Intel-graphics dual core white MacBook. Lion should run, but I've been disappointed with Lion and it is now end-of-life (mercifully short).
So I've a perfectly fine and responsive Snow Leopard machine. Only problem -- when MobileMe dies in June Address Book on that device won't sync with our iPhone [1].
I know Apple doesn't allow 3rd parties to sync anything to iCloud. So there's no solution that way.
One approach is to use a 3rd party app to sync Address Book on this machine with Address Book on another machine that in turn syncs with iCloud.
The easier approach is to go all Google; sync Address Book to Google, set the iPhone to use a Google Apps account. (Ironic that Apple's obsoleting a solid MacBook should drive us to Google.)
    Anyone see any other fixes?
    john
[1] For various reasons the iPhone syncs to another machine with our family app/media library. So I can't sync Address Book via iTunes.

In this case I do need to plan ahead, and I'm confident my sources are correct. Apple might add in support for 64bit machines with Intel graphics, but that's a bit unlike them. On the other hand, this entire ML roll out is new, so old rules may not apply.
Here are my requirements, given for various reasons I need to have a plan in place around mid-May for my corporate user base (3 kids, 2 parents, dog is out of luck):
Not Lion: I use Lion, but I don't want to inflict it on the family. Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard only.
We don't want to replace the MacBook - so that means Snow Leopard is required.
Whatever we do, it has to sync to all of our iOS devices as well as our OS X devices. That rules out iCloud for the iOS devices, since iCloud is incompatible with the MacBook (given the no Lion requirement).
We currently use Google calendars and Google Apps extensively, and despite Google's marked turn to the dark side we're stuck there unless Apple offers something we can use or Google drives iOS users away (they might).
That leaves an ActiveSync (Exchange) solution. Apple's enterprise ambitions mean they have to support ActiveSync for iOS going forward. So Google Apps ActiveSync will work with our iOS devices. Snow Leopard is harder -- Snow Leopard's ActiveSync support is broken. Mountain Lion may be better, in which case we can use ML ActiveSync on two machines. For Snow Leopard we'll have to pay Spanning Sync for their Google Sync to Address Book/Contacts and Calendar support. (I saw your Chronosync comment; I own that app, it doesn't help with this problem.)
So it looks like Apple's termination of MacBook support in the Mountain Lion era will push our family off iCloud and onto Google/ActiveSync/Spanning Sync!

  • Epson CX6600 - No Scanner since Snow Leopard upgrade

Since I upgraded to SL on my 2.4 iMac 24" I have not been able to access the scanner. In all programmes it initially shows in the list, but then says either 'no scanner detected' or 'scanner disconnected'.
All other functions of the machine work including colour copying, so the hardware must function at least!
Is is just too old for the software. I have downloaded the 'latest' drivers via Epson and through the Apple site, but nothing seems to work.

    HI,
Disconnect the router from it's power source, shut down your MacBookPro. Wait about 5 mins, reconnect the router, reboot your MBP. See if that makes a difference.

  • ICal error since snow leopard upgrade

    Hi,
We are running Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard. I have all of our service up and running except for one. The issue is with iCal Server.
We did an OS upgrade - keeping our previous settings etc. Most of this worked great but iCal Server is not accessible.
In Server Admin the service seems all set and running but on the web page and on our client machines the calendars we have been using before the upgrade are now not available.
Using Safari and going to the web calendar I gat a message "Unable to access calendar, because the calendar server is not running."
In iCal on a client it just shows a offline icon beside the group's(account) shared calendar.
I have looked a several settings and read through the 10.6 iCal Server Admin PDF from apple. I am sure I jst am missing a configuration somewhere.
    Any help/advise/insight would be awesome!
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. I did a very similar task to fix the issue. Basically our company calendar had only a few future events input so I deleted all the old ics files etc and restarted ical server. I can now access the calendars(users and groups) via the webcalendar on the wiki.
I can also sync user calendars with iCal using- http://serveraddress:8008/principals/users/username/
However I cannot sync the group calendar using- http://serveraddress:8008/principals/groups/groupname/
This worked in 10.5 but is not working since the 10.6 upgrade.
Perhaps I need to find a new path to access this calendar. Any thoughts on where is calendar home is located?
    Thanks

  • Copying and Moving Mail from Snow Leopard to Lion

    Hello
What is the best way to move mail data from a Snow Leopard machine to a Lion machine?
My mail data is presently on my iMac which is running Snow Leopard. I want to copy and move this mail to my new MacBook Air that came installed with Lion (not an upgrade from Snow Leopard).
In the past, it was just a matter of copying the "mail" folder in the library and the plist and pasting them in the same location on the new machine. However, I have read that this does not work any more.
What is the best way to do this?
    Looking forward to some guidance.
    Cheers!
    Darren
    Tokyo

    Hi ozdazza,
I have managed to solve the problem and move all my emails from my old mac running 10.5.8 to my new mac running 10.7.2 with the following steps. Please note that in order for these to work, you need to have copy of your old email accounts either at your new mac desktop or in your time machine (or any external HD connected to your new mac)
1- In my new mac, I created email accounts similar to the ones in my old mac (names and setting),
2- I copied my old emails (one email account at a time so I do not get confused) and placed  it on my new mac desktop. Please note that inbox messages in OS 10.5.X are stored in user/library/mail/pop.file/inbox.mbox. And outbox messages are stores in user/library/mail/pop.file/outbox.mbox and so forth. For copying messages in your inbox the file you should copy to your desktop is the inbox.mbox NOT the mail file or NOT the pop file.
3- Open your mail app in your new mac and chose “import mailboxes” under file menu.
4- Chose import data from “Apple Mail” which is the first choice.
5- Chose the inbox.mbox file to be imported.
6- After the importing process finish, you will see all your messages in a new folder called “Import” in your mailboxes column within your new mail app.
7- Now click on that import box to display all your messages in the middle column in your email app.
8- Highlight all the messages by clicking comm+A
9- Drag all the highlighted messages to your newly created inbox.
10- After the drag&drop process finished, you can delete the import box.
Above process can be done with the sent.mbox as well, but in such process you use the sent.mbox for old email account and drag its messages (step 9) to the sent file in your new email account box.
I had managed to move or transfer 3 emails account each one with 2 boxes (inbox and sentbox) with a total size of over 8GB in only less than 10 minutes.
The key problem in all my previous import attempts is that I was importing the wrong file and trying to place it in the wrong place.
I hope above process works well for you as it did for me.

  • NO longer working since Snow Leopard

We have not had our Airport Express very long but it was working fine
Since the Snow Leopard update it is no longer seen by the Airport Utility or by iTunes
This is pointless - why have an Apple device which cannot be found by an Apple computer?
Does anyone know how I can fix it?
(I have searched for the AEx and unplugged it all with NO SUCCESS)

This is happening to me as well, Keith.
Airport Utility can not discover the Airport Express. I've reinstalled AU, as well as pulling the Airport Express from power and plugging it back in. I have not "reset" it yet, as I'm hoping there is a solution without having to lose all my Wifi settings.
    Anyone got an answer?

  • Epson RX595 will not print since Snow Leopard install

I cannot get my trusty Epson to print since installing Snow Leopard and latest printer drivers.
I can scan. Just cannot print.
I have looked at some troubleshooting support articles. Does anyone have a good link, tip?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Try deleting the printer, the <hard drive>/Library/Printers/EPSON folder and the /Library/Caches/Epson folder, and then reinstalling the drivers using Software Update. Then add the printer, making sure that you are using the Epson driver, not the Gutenprint driver.

  • Problems w/MS Office 2008 & Google Earth Ever Since Snow Leopard "Upgrade"

I probably should have checked this forum before taking my son's advice to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6. Ever since this upgrade, I've had repeated and frustrating problems with two applications: MS Office 2008 for the Mac and Google Earth for the Mac.
Note that I did an "in-place" upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, i.e., I inserted the installation DVD into my iMac and then double-clicked on "Install Mac OS X".
Office 2008: Ever since the Snow Leopard upgrade, MS Office 2008 has been crashing. Typically, it's Entourage crashing when a crash does occur because that's the office app that I run 95% of the time. However, whenever Entourage crashes and I try to launch Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, they won't launch either... The icons will bounce a few times in the dock but won't run. (The Entourage crash is the only Office App that actually generates a crash window.) Note that there are two identities configured on my iMac, both of which which use Entourage. The key thing about this situation is that when the Office 2008 crash does occur, restarting the iMac ALWAYS resolves the problem until the next time a crash occurs. I've tried to determine what combination of events, i.e., apps open/being used in either/both identities, etc. is the trigger, but I can't find anything obvious. Sometimes I can use the iMac for a whole day without a crash, but that's unusual. If Entourage is left open in both identities, maybe a couple of days will pass without a crash, but invariably it happens again, and then it's reboot time again. In cases where Entourage is left running (in one or both identities), we will still eventually get a crash in one of them if one of us tries to open a WinWord attachment (with a "Not enough memory to run Word" error). If at that point I close Entourage and try to restart it, it crashes. I've tried everything I could find on the Office for the Mac forums, including deleting duplicate fonts, doing a safe start-up, fixing disk permissions via Disk Utility, zapping the PRAM, turning filing sharing off then on (including deleting everything listed in the Shared Folders section), logging out/logging back in, etc., all to no avail. One of the Office 2008 for the Mac forum contributors suggested that the problem was with my Snow Leopard Install, but then a contributor to another more general Apple forum blames Office for Mac. (This is exactly the sort of finger-pointing exercise that I'd hoped to avoid when I made the plunge from being a long-time Windows user to becoming an OS X user...; - )
Google Earth: This just flat-out WILL NOT RUN ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. When I try to run it, it bounces in the dock for about a minute then just stops, staying fixed to the dock until I do a Force-Quit. (I don't have it permanently tethered to the dock since I only use it occasionally.) I've tried deleting/reinstalling, including Google Earth's suggestions to remove files from my identity's Google Earth folder in the Library folder, but no dice.
My take on all of this is that despite all of Apple's advertising to the contrary, their OS (including updates to their OS) isn't necessarily as trouble-free/stable as their anti-Windows spots would have you believe. Sorry for this long post, but any help would be much appreciated.

I left my system running all day in 64-bit kernel mode. (I left Entourage running the whole time.) Just now closed Entourage and tried reopening it. Same deal with Google Earth. They both crashed. Here's a screen paste of the entire Microsoft crash log for Entourage:

  • Aperture PS CS3/4 Aperture, not working since Snow Leopard install...

Since installing Snow Leopard today I have been unable to export/edit from Aperture to Photoshop CS3/4 and back again!!!
I have tried it with both CS3 and CS4 as I have both installed. Aperture corrupts the thumbnail on export to both apps, they then open the file in both versions of PS but when you go to save after editing you get a message saying the file is open and you can't save it!!!
It seems to me it's an obvious Snow Leopard issue as it worked perfectly before I upgraded but now I am screwed for editing until a fix is sorted, any suggestions???

I am not having that problem. I can edit with CS4 an image that was previously edited with CS4 and also one that was not previously edited at all.
Did you upgrade Aperture to 2.1.4 before Snow ?
