Copy an ess component in nwds

Hello all ,
I have to copy an Standard ESS/MSS component.e.g.ess/us/pdata then rename it with ess/sa/padata.
So that we can make the changes on ess/sa/padata. and our original copy remain unaffected.
To copy a standard one i follow below steps.
1.Create a new DC with the same name as the old DC.
2. Go to navigator and expand the structure of old DC.Copy the src folder from there.
3. Now Expand the structure of new DC.Paste the src folder from old DC to new one.
4.Close the DC and then re load +build.
But when copied dc contains lots of error and when i looked into DC there is lots of thing missing there .
e.g. proper mapping is missing in copied component and there is lots of other error like begda missing etc .
I want to know my approach was right or not.
if right is there anything else step that i need to do.
Or what will be the other approach to do it right way.
Thanks.
Punit

Hi,
I am new to do these ESS/MSS and web dynppro changes.
u2022     Create the new DC
u2022     Add all references (e.g. ess/per, xssfpm, ...). Just compare with the original one.
u2022     Create the RFC model
u2022     Copy the functional component (FC or BLC)
u2022     Remap the RFC Model
u2022     Add all used Components (caution ... instance creation is within FPM apps usually manual)
u2022     Map the context of the used components (compare with original).
u2022     Rebuild, then go to component controller & interface controller and organize imports.
u2022     Resolve all open issues due to e.g. new model and so on.
i do not know how may i do these steps
u2022     Add all references (e.g. ess/per, xssfpm, ...). Just compare with the original one.
u2022     Add all used Components (caution ... instance creation is within FPM apps usually manual)
u2022     Map the context of the used components (compare with original).
can you guide me more.
Thanks

    HI,
you need to delete the application and create the application again, and change the application property that os Base configuration id to your new FPM application, so that the webdynpro application can call your fpm application and you can get the exact result,

  • Customizing standard ESS component using WebDynproJava.

    Hi All,
I am a WebDynpro Java developer. I am new to ESS . My requirement is to customize the Open Enrollment (need to add a pop-up window to the existing Open enrollment flow). Our Portal version is NW 7.0 EPH!1 and NWDS version is NW 7.0.
Please let me know what all i need to know to customize the standard ESS component and also suggest any document that shows the step by step process starting from NWDI till deploying the customized component in NWDS.

    Hi,
    there you go:
    1. once you need to know how to work with NWDI:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/03/f6bc3d42f46c33e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm
(you can also find the link here to NWDS)
    2. You need to know how to deal with ESS development, here you go, see the guide inside the following note
    #872892 - JDI/NWDI Cookbook for ESS/XSS (http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/872892)
Here you'll find an attachment NWDI.zip, and that includes as PDF file which I kindly ask you to read very carefully even multiple times if necessary.
Let me know if you need other guides, but I believe this is a plenty of material, but this should be a nice starting point.
    Best Regards,

  • BPM process and BRM rules process in same development component in NWDS

    Hi All,
Is it possible to create the BPM process and BRM rules process in the same development component in NWDS?
I tried but whenever we create it,say, first ly for BPM,that is File-New-Project-Development Component-Process Composer
While once this development component is created I try to create rules composer in the same composer by right clicking on local development component as well as process composer but ther is no option of creating /calling rules composer/rules modeling.
Can you please guide me creating both BPM process and BRM rules composer/rules modeling in the same development component if its possible?
    Thanks in advance

Open your project explorer and expand the BPM project you have created. Locate a folder named "Rules" in the Project Tree. Right-click on the Rules folder and select 'Create new rule'. You can model your rules such as rule-scripts here and use it in the BPM.
Note: These rules cannot be used outside the BPM Project.

    Hi,
the problem seems to be connection to the database or may be database URL is incorrect.
The problem can be solved via the Visual Administrator or by a manual modification of the data-sources.xml file.
Visual Administrator --> Server --> Services  -->  JDBC Connector -->Select DataSource
Change the URL given in the Database URL field with the appropriate one & save it.

  • Can not change vendor when creating a new Development Component in NWDS

    Dear friends,
Im trying to create a new Development Component in NWDS. Our NWDS is connected to NWDI and we are using CM Services option of NWDI.
Before I could create a DC and change the vendor but now I cant change it anymore. Now, the vendor is by default sap.com and we cant change it and it seems that we also have to put our project in a separate directory. home/ directory or other directories in the list.
    See below screen shots...
If I make a new DC than we see it like this: home/bpm_test [sap.com].
If I make a new DC in my LocalDevelopment I can change the vendor and I dont have to choose a home directory.
Do you have any idea how to change that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

    HI,
it seems that the vendor is defined in the NWDI track. That's why you can't change it.
    regards,
    Vasils

  • Viewing and modifying deployed ess appls in NWDS

    Hi All,
we successfully installed and configured NWDI and created tracks and imported the relevant sca files in the Development system. At this point of time, we want to open up one of the ess applications in NWDS to be able to understand the structure of such applns and then modify them. We hv some questions regarding the same:
    1) For modification of ess application, do we need to import the track in CMS in the consolidated system. What is the purpose of the Consolidated System and importing the track in it?
    2) To be able to import an ess appln in NWDS, we created a project of type DC (we already imported the necessary development configuration) and tried to create a project but failed with error msg 'unable to create DC and check for errors in logs'. Where are these logs located? im unable to find any in the ide folder..?I know this is not enough info to wrk with..alternatively are there any step-by-step guides on importing/creating ess applns in NWDS? I'm already referring to the document 'custom development of web dynpro ess applns using FPM' ..any guidance in these initial steps is appreciated.
    thanks in advance!
    prachi

    Thanks both for your response.
Seshu: I'm already referring the nwdi cookbook. i do see the step on importing tracks in consolodation but no explanation on why its required. Also how can I identify the relevant web dynpro application for a relevant ess screen. i dont understand the architecture of the components/applications. Take for eg ess/per, i was under the impression that it was the WD application for personal information and would hv the relevant iViews on Banks, Addresses, Personal Data, EIC Authentication etc that we see on portal. But i see different DCs for banks, addresses, etc under the locale-specific folder. whereas the DCs like ess/ben, ess/per see to hv only some generic navigation iViews etc..Could you advise on how to go about understanding the architecture of all these DCs?
Bala: Im getting errors when creating a DC project in NWDS. why would i hv to refer the server logs in nwa for this?
    Thanks!

  • Enhancing standard ESS Component

    Hi Experts,
I am going to make changes in standard ESS component in WD ABAP through enhancement button given on menu by creating an enhancement implementation. I want to know is it the right way to create enhancement and suppose any enhancement package is applied to the system, In that case changes done in current enhancement will remain same after the new enhancement is installed or not.
Please provide answers to my queries.
    Thanks and Regards,

    thanks  vaibhav for reply....
I have a requirement that i need to add some custom(Input ) fields in 'Create Travel Request' view of travel and Expense Page of standard ESS . now the  same field  was needed in back-end  in ECC in t-code  TRIP...this  i did  using append structure  in PTK99 and  and  modifying standard  program and screen SAPMP56T 9999 with the  guidelines given in SPRO.
now the  same thing is to be done in in ESS which is ABAP  WD  application. WD component name is FITV_FPM, but  in this application   contains  viewContainerUIElements on LAYOUT_VIEW  which gets  populated  dynamically..I can create and  Enahancement of this application  and  put  the required  field on the  view  but   still after  doing this, how to store the these data  in back-end???  in back-end  this  data  is stored in PCL1 cluster..
I feel SAP should have  given some facility for this in ESS like it has given in ECC...

  • I have a problem with Transport the personalization of standard ess compone

I have a problem with Transport the personalization of standard ess component.
My problem is in several components, such as:
    portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.bp_folder/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.roles/

I have personalized this page (into rol, not directly in the page), with Ctrl+Right button.
Now i transport the rol, from Development to Quality environment, but i don't see the changes in Quality.
My system is NW 7.01 SP7, Can be that the problem?
Any idea to solve this problem?

First please see note 1234273 which details how best to personalize

    Here you can read:
"If an iView is transported to another portal all these properties are
also transported. This is needed to make sure that role-specific changes
could be transported together with the role. End user personalization
data is NOT transported in this way as end user personalization is only
    local to the current portal."
Could you please ensure that personalization was done by an admin user?
I'm afraid that if it was done by an end user, personalization isn´t
transported as it's explained in the documentation provided.
Could you please confirm whether you are using exactly the same language
to access to both systems, development and quality? Maybe you are using
language en(us) in one system and en(gb) in the other one. Please take
into account that personalization is language specific.
From the web dynpro end, the WebDynpro personalization is stored
NOT in the PCD prior to 710 release. And as such it cannot be included
in a portal role transport. This feature is available with NW 7.10 SP2
or later (from webdynpro point stand). The best option is to
go with NW 7.30 as this is the first NetWeaver release with EP since
    NW 7.02.

  • Copy an ESS DC

    Hi all,
I want to make a copy of an standard ESS DC in order to add functionality. I've imported it from my NWDI and I've created a new DC in order to copy this functionality; I've made it through the Navigator of the NWDS, but the copy doesn't work. Sometimes it builds correctly but then the Deploy fails or sometimes the Build fails. This is happening with only the copy of the DC, we've not added anything to the DC.
How can we copy this DC in a better way, exists any other way we can accomplish this? How can we copy a DC into another?
    Regards and thanks a lot!

    Hi,
There is no direct method to copy. Only hectic manual copy. Need to do following steps.
    1. Create a new DC
    2. Copy and paste all Cc, Fc, Vc's one after another into webdynpro section of new DC with new package name of your choice.
    3. Goto Navigator view, open gen_wdp ->packages->drill down to WDP directories. Inside this dir. check for no of files with that of old component at the same place. Otherwise copy and paste the missed files from old to new and change package names to new name inside of each file manually.
    4. In webdynpro view, do one to one comparision for any missing models, context mappings, used components, used DC's etc.
    5. Build and deploy.
    All the Best,
    Suresh.

  • Can we Copy a Webdynpro Component. If so, How??

I frequently get a situation where I want to keep a copy of the web dynpro component developed and make changes such that they do no update the copy.
I have tried making a copy of it in the same project. BUt this gets updated when we deploy the component. So, In order to copy I am building the same application and modifying that.
Is there any way out. My work is doubled due to this. I am sure there is a way. Pleas let me know.
    THank you,
    Vasu

    Hi Vasu,
What  kind of Component is it? DC or Project?  For Projects do like this:
    1.Go to <Inst.Drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Documents\SAP\workspace (say test)
2.Copy your project to desktop (Rename it as test_copy)
3.Open the project folder.Open the .porject file.
4.Change the project name and save it.<name>test_copy</name>
    5. Copy this modified from desktop to workspace.(Copy test_copy to workspace)
6.Open NWDS,select File-> Import. Browse to workspace select the modified project (test_copy)-> Select Finish.
Now in the studio you will have copy of your project.
    regards,
    Siva
