Copy and Finalise DVD-R help

I have never used my super drive on my computer to burn a DVD.
Yesterday a friend gaveme a DVD of his childs school recital that he wanted to copy. I tried to use disk utility but kept getting an error so them I just copied the two folders on the DVD to my desktop and then draggged both folders to a blank DVD which copied everything and then i selected burn. The disc plays on any computer but will not play on any DVD player I have or my friend has. The DVD player manuals all say that the DVD disc needs to be finalised in order to play, How do I do this?

I tried to do that but kept getting an Input /output error and could not make a disc image using disk utilities that is why I copied everything onto the desk top and dragged it to the blank DVD-R and then burned it. Now how can I copy and finalise?
I cannot get iDVD to import anything, I tried import and I tried dragging the disc to the project windo neither seems to work but maybe I don't know how to use iDVD as well.

Copy what kind/type of DVDs?  For non-copy protected DVDs you can use Disk Utility (in the Applications folder) to make a disk image of the DVD disk and then burn it back to a disk.

I've copied a couple of things from the TV onto different DVD-R's and want to take parts of them and record them onto one DVD, how do I do it? Thanks

You need to convert the VOB files of the DVDs back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • Copying and burning dvds

    hi
i am wondering how you copy dvds and then burn them.
i went on a forum and they suggested mac the ripper. It is all above board dvd's, they are training videos that i have to copy for my boss, nothing illegal.
when i used mac the ripper it put the dvd into a folder (a VIDEO_TS folder ) that i cannot open.
burning them i guess i would use idvd, as i have made dvds myself and burnt with that.
i am sorry if i sound a bit stupid but.....so be it!
so the how do i copy a dvd???
    thank you

After you get the Video TS folder on your desktop, you simply drag it to Your choice of either DSK Utility , or Toast and put in a blank DVD-R and click burn.
If you are not familiar with DVD Burning it can get confusing in a hurry at first.
To help you out a little.
Standard DVD's are 4.7 gb in size.
Most Data, and Audio is not a problem.
Most people run into there problem when trying to copy a commercially made DVD that may have 6 or 7 GB on it. Thus it will not fit on a Standard 4.7GB DVD.
Here is where you need a top of the line software to accomplish this task.
    Roxio's Toast 7, or Popcorn.
What it does is read the Video TS folders size and content and then it automatically compresses the content to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD.
All of this is done with a couple of clicks of the mouse.
Using Apple's software to copy is fine through the Disc Utility for Audio, and Data, and some Video, Take note that Apples furnished software is entry level and there are only certain things it is capable of.
    Hope this helps. Don

  • Copying and converting dvds

    Hello,
Can anyone please tell me how or maybe advised me on a software/equipment that can convert data on data so I can edit in Final Cut Pro?

You can read my MPEG Streamclip tutorial here: http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739 The free software is available here: http://www.squared5.com
MPEG Streamclip does not work with copy protected, commercial discs. That discussion is not permitted on this forum..

  • Cannot Copy and/or Paste?

    Hey,
I have Leopard and I can no longer copy or paste. This happened in the past 24 hours, no changes have been made that I am aware of. Even with the mouse I cannot copy and paste. Any help or ideas would be geatly appreciated. I also cannot drag and drop as mentioned in an earlier post that others are seeming to experience.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am having similar problems with cut and paste special. I have been moving charts and graphs made in Excel to Word by using Paste Special (as a picture). This worked fine until I installed Leopard. Now the paste buffer chops off the rightmost 1/3 of the chart. I checked the clipboard (show clipboard) and it also has a truncated copy of my file. Also, to determine if it was MS related, I used the lastest version of iWork and had the same problem. I'll try the "safe mode" startup and repair permissions solution, as well as the Leopard reinstall tonight, however, if you know a solution, I'd appreciate it if you please passed it on. (Hello, Apple, I don't need this, I have a deadline on these papers . . .) Thanks

  • How do I copy and paste with my new laptop

Got my first apple product this week, and am having trouble transferring what I was used to on a PC to my macbook. I noticed that when I right click on my mac nothing seems to happen, and in the past this is what I used to copy and paste. Please help!

    Command-C (copy) Command-V (paste)
Does right clicking do anything, anywhere (it may be off)
Tap on your trackpad with 2 fingers instead of 1 for a 'right-click'

It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

Great hearing for you all! I thought I was all alone this past weekend. I did learn a lot this weekend. I really like the InDesign product.(half-the-battle) But to be helped by the prestigious “Sandee Cohen” was an honor indeed.”  I ordered the InDesign CC today.  Peter, I appreciate all the feedback on Lynda too. They are loaded with lots of good videos. Derek too honed in on one of the most important aspects!  Since I have been working with Word for most of the first portion of the book this will be a big help. I looked at the comments big help ! • I loaded a digital copy of a dvd which I bought to the itunes library.  It shows in the Library on the computer, but how do I get it on the Ipad?  Help!!!

Not sure if I am doing this correct.  I uploaded a digital copy of a DVD movie to the itunes library.  How do I get it to the Ipad?  Please help, I have been trying for over an hour.  Thank you.  Garry

Select the movie to sync (click in box next to the name) in the movies tab in iTunes while your iPad is connected to your computer, with iTunes running and then sync the movie to the iPad.
Make sure you are using the correct iTunes account when you sync as well and that you have authorized your computer.

hi friends i have mac ibook g4 i know its a really old model but its perfectly fine it has installed mac os x 10.5.8 ok whenever i copy and paste anything it says no free space weather i copy from folder to desktop or from usb to mac plz help plz

There is no download for 10.4.x or 10.5.x, there is a very slim chance you can get 10.5 by calling Apple, but usually you can only get it on eBay & such.
    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
        * Built-in FireWire
        * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
        * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
        * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools  (I recommend 20GB minimum)

    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
May be available from Apple again...

  • Brand new at copying DVDs - need help.

Hope that I am in the right forum. I'm brand new at using DVD copying since I've only had this computer for about a week. I've had problems in copying my home video DVDs on DVD+R discs which were created on a Sony DVD recorder. These are obviously not copy protected. I tried making a copy for a friend but ran into problems, phoned Apple and followed their instructions for copying and burning -R discs but that didn't work for me. On my follow up call, they suggested that the problem may be either the +R disc (rather than -R) or the fact that the discs were not burned on a computer but rather on the recorder. They suggested the use of other software. So I searched the web andI downloaded something called Mac the Ripper and using the dialog box in that program, do have the contents of one disc on my hard drive as far as I know. But I don't know how to copy (burn) onto a blank disc either using this same program or something else. In other words, what are my next step by step instructions to burn what I hope I have on the hard drive onto a blank disc - I still have +R discs left so I'll likely be using them. Thanks for any help.

From all the helpful information posted here, I have found out that copying DVDs is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped it would be using my new computer. I would have to purchase software which isn't supplied on my iMac such as Toast or Popcorn to do the job as far as I have found out from a number of sources. Toast is a bit more costly than I want to spend for just this one task although Popcorn is more reasonable. I am beginning to think that for the few DVDs that I really need to copy for my friend, the easiest route is to use my DVD recorder, transfer the contents of the DVD to the hard drive on my recorder (yes, the recorder does have a 160 GB HD) and then burn a blank DVD from the recorder's hard drive which is what I have done dozens of times in the past. Of course, it takes 2 hours to transfer the video from a DVD (assuming it has 2 hours of video on it) to the hard drive and then only about 4 - 7 minutes to burn the video onto a blank DVD from the HD of the recorder. Using the computer, I had hoped to reduce the time it takes for that first 2 hour step with the recorder. I'm not even sure if Popcorn would significantly reduce the time for transferring the video from the DVD onto the computer. I'll have to evaluate whether or not the cost of something like Popcorn is really worthwhile for me. Thank goodness, copying audio CDs is much more straightforward on the computer. Thanks for all the help.

my new macbook air( 761-13", ios 10) suddendy shutdown today during copy of a dvd from external dvdrom. and it does not turn on or start up.what should i do?

    Hello kanani-2014,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with your Mac not turning on. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
    Resolution
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.
