Copy and Paste a channel in Photoshop CC

Following an on line tutorial I need to copy one channel of an image layer then paste it to the RGB channel.  Command C/V does not work while it does in the tutorial.  I am not sure what version Photoshop is being used the tutorial, but I have seen other posts regarding problems copying text in CC 2014.  Any clues?  I am running Yosemite on an iMac and Photoshop CC 2014.

Hi Trevor,
That duplicates the channel, but how do I then paste it onto the RGB Channel.  In the tutorial they copied the red channel to the clipboard (without duplicating it in the channels panel ) then they clicked on the RGB channel and did command V to past the red channel onto the selected RGB (all channels) thereby replacing them all with the red channel.  hope that makes sense, but the operation was simply a copy to and paste from the clipboard.
Perhaps I should go back and look at it again for the umpteenth time to see if I am missing anything.
Thanks for the quick response Trevor.  I'll let you know if I find anything new.
Best
Michael

Is it possible to preserve the layer name when I copy and paste from Illustrator into Photoshop?
At the moment it just appears as "Vector Smart Object" in Photoshop and I have to take another step and change the layer name.
    Thank you!

Not that I know. PS doesn't care for these kinds of things and uses its own naming system.

  • Is there a reason why I can't copy and paste from Illustrator to Photoshop

Before the last update, I was able to copy and paste from Illustrator to Photoshop, and now I can't. Which really suck. Is there a new way I would have to do it?

I'm not privy to what impact the latest update my have had, but I believe Photoshop still has "its own" clipboard, and there may still be a tendency under certain conditions for it to become inaccessible from/to the rest of the system. Reboot everything and try again.

  • Copy and paste stopped working in photoshop CC

I've been using Photoshop CC since march and this is a new issue. Not previously a problem until today.
When I select and area to copy, from a JPEG or photoshop PSD photograph, and make a new file to paste it into, the new file comes up the same size as the clipboard contents, as it is meant too, but photoshop will no  longer allow me to paste. The selection EDIT, Paste is still there in black, not greyed out. I temporarily fixed it by restarting my computer and it worked until I closed Photoshop down again and reopened it, problem is back...what is going on?
Is it to do with preferences and how do I change them to fix this?
the only thing I've changed recently was telling JPEG files to use photoshop as the default programme to open up in my computer. I changed this because Bridge was no longer showing photoshop as an option when you rightclick an image and chose which file to use to open it. The fix was to close Bridge, chose a jpeg and change the default to photoshop to open it.
I'm running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
    any help recieved with thanks....

Thanks again,I did manage to delete the preferences using your method above. but again, copy and paste using PSD files still not resolved.
Copy and paste works for PNG GIFF JPEG files but not for PSD
OK thanks to Curt Y, I suggest the solution is to do the preferences first, then the purging.
I went back and purged the clipboard again after resetting the preferences and now it appears to be fixed.
    thank you

  • When I copy and paste an image from Word for usage in a Framemaker document it becomes blurred.

    Hi,
I am saving graphics from Word for usage in a Framemaker document. When I copy and paste the file into photoshop it becomes blurred and unusable. How do I resolve this? I have tried saving the file in it's highest resolution but that doesn't work either.
    Thanks,
    Niall.

The problem has to be the image itself, but then you give us zero information.
We don't even know what platform you are on, Macintosh or Windows, what exact version of the OS, of Photoshop, or Word you are using, how you are getting what kind of image from Word, etc.
It could be that you're just copying the low resolution thumbnail preview from MS Word, but we know nothing about its dimensions, resolution or format.

  • Track CST to Bus CST: Cant Copy and Paste?

    Hello everyone,
I'm using a Track CST on an audio track, and would like to move it to an Bus so multiple tracks can use it. However, I'm not able to copy and paste the channel strip settings from a track to a bus! Why?! Am I doing something wrong? What's the easiest way to get around this?

Thanks. This will work, though I wonder why its not possible to simply copy and paste channel strip settings, regardless of the track type? I'm going to send logic a feedback, as this seems like an oversight.
    Thanks for the help though!

  • Photoshop CS3 & Outlook 2007 - Can't copy and Paste

I've recently converted to win7 and office 2007.  Under vista and office 2003 I could select an embedded image in an email, copy it to the clipboard, and then do a file/new in photoshop and paste the image.  Every since going to vista and office 2007, this will not work.  I can select the image and copy it, but photoshop cannot paste it.  The paste command remains greyed out.
I tried copy and past into Microsoft Paint and that works.  I tried copy and paste in Paint Shop Pro XI and that works.  I tried copy and paste from Paint Shop to photoshop and that works.  I just can't copy and paste from outlook 2007 to photoshop.
Is this another "feature" from microsoft?

I just made a quick test with Outlook 2007 and Photoshop CS5 64 and 32 bit on Windows7 64 bit.
From the embedded images that I tried in Outlook there are 2 kinds of selections, one that works and another that doesn't. I'm not familiar at all with designing emails and don't even know what programs, scripting, programing, etc is used for creating and designing emails (I won't mind if someone enlightens me) but when I right click on a image and choose copy on some of the images appear selection handles similar to the transformation box in Photoshop and I can even move the handles in Outlook as if it is going to scale the images but it does nothing at the end. When I copy images with such selection handles they cannot be pasted in Photoshop where Paste menu is dimmed, but can be pasted in other programs like Microsoft Paint and even in other Adobe programs like Illustrator, Flash, and Dreamweaver, but not in InDesign where pasting produced an empty text box. Then if I copy the pasted image from any of these programs I can paste it without a problem in Photoshop.
Now here's the trick, copy and paste works from Outlook to Photoshop if the image doesn't show these slection handlles when I right click and choose copy, but when it does, if I select it in a different way, like a text by dragging between before and end of image to highlight it, then right clicking and choosing copy works without a problem when pasting it in Photoshop.
Have you tried reporting this issue to Adobe?  I have made feature requests in the forum for that on this site but I have never reported bugs and don't know what are the channels. If it hasn't been reported, I think they will be interested to know this issue.

  • Copying and pasting from Adobe Photoshop CS4

Does anyone know how you can copy and paste text that you enter in "Description" in the "File Info" section of a jpg file across to other applications. It would save me countless duplication of having to write the description on emails to which I attach jpgs. When I try to copy it and paste the options in photoshop are greyed out and inaccessible. Thanks.

Regular copying via command-C should still work.

  • How can I copy and paste something which is written in hindi font in photoshop?

I want to create an image with some text written on it. The text which is to be written is in Hindi language and I have that text in a ms word file. But I don't know Hindi typing so the only option I have is to copy and paste that text from ms-word file as it is. Now the problem is the same font is working in ms-word file properly but as I soon as I copy it to Photoshop with the same font enabled, it is showing something weird boxes. In short, Hindi font is working for ms-word but same Hindi font is not working for Photoshop particularly in case of copy and paste. Not only one font, I tried many of them but problem is the same for every font. Please help. Proper answer will be greatly appreciated.

hatstead Thanks a lot for your quick reply, but this is not what I want! Actually when I posted the picture with Hindi font I forgot that you don't know the Hindi language. Actually in the picture I want something which is written on the right hand side to the equal sign ('='). Problem is when I copy it from ms word file or notepad file with same font enabled in the Photoshop, Photoshop automatically converts it to something which is written on the left hand side to equal sign ('='). Believe me I have done everything in last 24 hours to fix this problem but unfortunately none of the solution worked. I also used "Place" option to import the ms word file but again unfortunately Photoshop doesn't allow text files or .doc file format to be placed. So the thing is I want something which is written right hand side but when I copy it to Photoshop, Photoshop automatically converts it into something which is written on the left hand side. I hope you got the crux. Please help!!

  • Having problems copying and pasting in Photoshop CS5

    Hi,
I'm running Photoshop CS5 on my laptop (Win 7) and desktop (Win 8).
When I have three documents open and open a New one, I can't get the others to copy and paste by keys or menus...not even by dragging to the new document.
Same thing happens in both version of Windows. The images are all jpgs, RGB, 8 bit.
Also, sometimes when I create a New doc, one of the other images suddenly disappear.
Any ideas what's going on here?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

You probably simply crash your graphics acceleration by exhausting all resources. Turn off openGL in the prefs and/or update your graphics driver.

Upon register with Adobe Photoshop, they asked me to copy and paste a URL into my "browser" to confirm my e-mail address. What, and where, is my Browser? How do I do that?

If this has arrived in an email from Adobe, it's probably legitimate.
Usually though, you can click the link and it will confirm your registration automatically.
Otherwise copy it and then paste it into the location bar.

  • Copy and pasting to Photoshop and maintaining position

I have tried to export a fairly complex illustrator file to PSD but encounter a 'not enough memory to save image' error (even though I have 8gb installed). As a workaround I am trying to cut and paste each illustrator layer into a new Photoshop layer. Both documents are the same size, but I can't figure out how to copy and paste and maintain the relative position of the layers to each other once I paste them into PS.
Can anyone help? Surely this is possible!
    Thanks

Best method depends on the specific circumstance. But not knowing the specific circumstance, here's a method I have used for many years:
Assume a full-page ad that includes of a full-bleed raster image in the background. Various vector elements and live text need to be positioned optimally relative to the background image. Some of those elements are to be created as vector objects, but "flattened" as part of the background raster image. The final will be delivered as a PDF exported from the program being used for page assembly.
    1. Create the background image in the raster imaging program, including bleeds.
    2. Set up the page in the vector drawing program or page assembly program to match, including bleeds, with guides at the trims.
    3. Place a low-res FPO of the raster image in the page assembly program, on its own layer, or otherwise locked. (A mere screenshot often suffices for this.)
    4. Create the various text and vector objects.
    5. For the set of vector objects that needs to become part of the background image:
5.1 Draw two small filled, unstroked rectangles (quarter inch or whatever) aligned to two opposite corners of the raster image.
5.2 Select these two objects along with whatever objects I want to rasterize as part of the background image. Copy.
5.3 Paste into the raster image program. The pasted content either auto-sizes to the bounds of the background image because it is of the same aspect ratio, or can easily be scaled to size before being deselected and rasterized. When deselected, the pasted content is rasterized to the same resolution of the background image, on its own layer (depending on the program.)
5.4 If the temporary "registration objects" (the two tiny squares) are within the trim, simply select them and delete them. If they reside only in the bleed, they can be left.
5.5 Apply whatever layer effects or other raster editing desired to the new content.
5.6 Flatten the whole image. Save it in appropriate full-res format. Import it to the page assembly program. delete the now-unnecessary vector objects that have become parts of the raster image. Export the press-ready PDF.
Specifics vary, of course, depending upon what specific programs are being used, and according to the specifics of the design. The basic principle is simply to create a couple of temporary "registration objects" at two opposing corners and include those in whatever you are taking to the raster program. They then serve to establish the aspect ratio and/or size of the transferred content.
Clean, simple, straightforward. Yes, slightly more work than the "just-draw-whatever-'looks-good'-on-screen-and-hang-how-it's-built" school of haphazard design that puts too much trust in all the automated flattening of raster effects applied in vector programs. But the final page construction is also clean, simple, straightforward, and I never have to worry about ugly surprises such as stitching artifacts between too many auto-created abutting raster slices.

  • CC14 Copying and Pasting to Photoshop

Since upgrading to CC14, I am finding that copying and pasting linework and graphics doesn't work as normal. Usually the copied material comes into to Photoshop at the correct size, even if there are large linked graphics that are contained and cropped by clipping masks. Now I find that when I paste, the copied material is shrunk down so that the whole of the clipped graphics are made to fit into the photoshop document, making the artwork too small.
Hard to explain, but I hope I've made sense - is there a preference setting in Illustrator or Photoshop CC 14 that will fix this behaviour?

Oh dear that took 30 secs to solve - uncheck 'Resize Image During Place' in Photoshop. Sorry and goodbye!
