Copy and paste between projects???

Hello,
iMovie '09 allows users to copy and paste clips between projects, but it do so with affecting quality. I mean is it the same as dragging clips from Events?
NOTE: I won't be home to check this for a week and I'm trying to help a friend via e-mail. So any help would be great.

It does not affect quality. When you copy a clip from a project, you are copying a reference to certain frames in an event.

Using Clipmate to copy and paste between projects

Thanks to Robert Johnston for the inspiration (and perspiration) for this method for copying and pasting between PE projects. One residual side effect of the method is that the audio and video of the copied clips will be unlinked. The renaming folders business is a workaround to avoid the silent audio problem after a project has been saved and reloaded.
1. Rename the folders of all audio files (including AVI files) used in the project to be copied.
2. Start PE and load in the project to be copied.
3. When asked, tell PE where the missing files are. (Check the box marked "Display Only Exact Name Matches".) Press Select.
4. Highlight parts (or all) of the project to be copied, in the timeline.
5. Copy the highlighted parts.
6. Copy into Clipmate:
6.1 Edit > Capture Special
6.2 Check both items in the list
6.3 OK
7. Close PE without saving.
8. Rename the folders of the audio files back again.
9. Open destination project in PE.
10. Re-select the copied info in Clipmate (closing the project in PE caused the clipboard to be cleared):
10.1 Select anything in the Clipmate list except the wanted item.
10.2 Select the wanted item (selecting an item loads it onto the clipboard).
11. Position the CTI to the wanted insertion point.
12. Do Edit > Paste Insert.
13. The pasted items will be highlighted in Media Panel. While still highlighted, select the Media Panel and do: Edit > Locate Media.
14. Tell PE where the files are.
15. Save project.

When combining projects, it is best to do your pruning of unwanted clips and other resources BEFORE you combine them, because once the Media Panel gets heavily loaded, PE is liable to crash.
Deleting the unused resources in Media Panel is quite easy in PE3 and PE4. Simply click on the "used" column heading, and the resources will be sorted into two groups of used and unused. Just click on the resource at one end of the unused range and shift click on the resource at the other end to select the whole range, then press delete. (Note that shift works normally in this panel, unlike in the timeline!) However, it is not strictly necessary to delete unused resources before copying and pasting because only resources selected on the timeline will be copied. PE will load and save a lot quicker if unwanted resources are deleted.
My feeling is that PE4 is somewhat more unstable than PE3, but I haven't done a proper direct comparison. For some reason after a crash the autosave often doesn't seem to have done its job properly, even though I set it to save every 10 mins. So make use of the Save button Adobe gave back to us in PE4 and save often, particularly before you use the titler or fiddle with the Media Panel.

Time stretching when copying and pasting between projects

I have had 18 separate instrument tracks of a live gig recorded in pro tools, so I simply imported the audio files into logic. I am also using the audio from a video camera to capture the reverb of the hall. The problem is that the audio files are 3 hours long and I would like to mix each song separately. To do this I would like to have a project for each song.
So I have cut the files up into their respective songs, the problem comes when I try and copy the tracks into a new project. The audio files get stretched making the tuning and tempo lower. I have tried copying and pasting as well as dragging the files over to the new project one at a time. I have also checked that the sample rates are the same, which they are.
Does anyone know why logic would be doing this? Are there any fixes you can recommend?

The sample rates of the files may be the same, while those of the projects may not.
Really, if it's slower and lower, by just about a semitone, then you're definitely playing a 48kHz file in a 44.1kHz project.

Copy and Paste between projects not keeping 16:9 ratio?

I wanted to combine two iMovie project files, and I have tried to do an import (gives a -43 Quicktime error), so then I just tried the Copy/Paste feature. It works (ie: brings in my video) with the transitions/effects (ken burns) still applied, but it will only display as a 4:3 video.
I have turned off the Automatic DV Pillarbox setting, but it still is doing it. Any ideas or am I just out of luck on this one?

PS: I know I can just export the files to a full DV image, but I was hoping to keep it intact so I can edit all the Ken Burns/transitions later.

Doesn't look as good where? Remember that iMovie display is only a preview. Also QT Player defaults to low-res display of DV clips.
I am using Expert Settings
iMovie's expert settings are buggy so use the Full Quality preset instead.

Why does the frame color change to black when I copy and paste between documents?

Copying and pasting between documents in Indesign. The color of the text stays the same but the lines and frames change from a specified color to black. Also changes when I drag and drop can anyone tell me how to fix this?

You have not provided any exact information like what version of ID, system info, paragraph styles, color definitions and whatnot, so we can't know what is going on. either way, ask in the ID forum and provide all those important details.

CS 5.5 Mac - can't copy and paste between layers

I'm running CS 5.5 on Mac (OS 10.7.4). Try as I might, I can't copy and paste between layers.
Create new document
Create new layer (= 2)
With first layer active, create text box and type randomly
Swtich to pointer, select text box, Copy
With second layer active, Paste
Error message onscreen:
<<Cannot paste or place onto locked or hidden layers. Do you want to unlock and show all affected layers in order to paste?>>
If click OK, the source layer (layer 1) becomes active again, and my text box gets pasted in. The destination layer (layer 2) is untouched.
Both layers are visible, neither of them are locked.
Any ideas much appreciated!

It sounds like you need to trash your prefs. See Replace Your Preferences
And it shouldn't throw that message, but also check to be sure that Paste Remembers Layers isn't checked in the Layers panel flyout menu or you'll never get anything to paste from one layer to another.

Cannot copy and paste between some CS2 programs

Using MAC OS X 10.3.9
and CS 2
Copy and paste does not function between some programs of CS2.
For example, Photoshop might say "Could not complete the Paste command because of a program error".
Illustrator never says anything when the paste operation fails.
However, InDesign accepts pasted stuff copied from Illustrator.

There's not nearly enough info in either of your posts. My suggestions would be to visit the individual product forums for the applications that are involved here along with COMPLETE system details.

Applications that can copy and paste between Keynote?

I am looking for both graphic and web appliations that can copy and paste scalable elements between it and Keynote. I create a lot of graphics in Keynote and I am hoping to find editors that can handle those elements. I already own PowerPoint, and it does an OK job. I you have any suggestions, I would like to here it.

Shapes created in PowerPoint can be placed on to a Keynote slide using copy and Paste.
Illustrator is the number one vector application and Illustrator files can drag and drop on to the slide.

Copy and pasting between Sequences

I edited a 3-camera HDV mulitcam project. It was perfect. No problems.
I created a second sequence in the same project. I copied and pasted part of the Sequence One Timeline into the Sequence Two Timeline.
The video in Sequence Two does not look as good. Why?
It's the same video. Why the difference? Will the quality also be diminished after exporting to DVD and/or YouTube?

Please give the exact item properties of the clips you're editing and the exact item properties of the sequence in which you're editing. Select a clip in the Browser and press Cmd-9 or Edit>Item Properties>Format. Select a sequence in the Browser and repeat.

Can't copy and paste between latest firefox and word 2007

I just posted about this a few minutes ago but forgot to mention it happens in both directions. I can't copy and paste anything from a screen in the latest firefox into word, and any links I copy from word do not copy into the address bar in firefox. Can someone help? I have Windows 7. This has been happening a couple of weeks.

use to have not problem doing this in non mx version of flash
n freehand.. but now i copy a symbol draw from Flash Pro 8 n paste
it in Freehand MX, its shape become "polygon-ed"

Copy and paste between layouts = unexpected quitting

Whenever i copy and paste a text box from desktop layout to tablet/phone layout Muse "unexpectadly quits" and it is getting very annoying. Is it something I am doing wrong? And if not please can we fix it!
Any body else experiencing this?

Do you get this behavior with all sites or is this related to any specific site ?
Can you try to create a new page in desktop , insert text and copy the content to new page in phone layout and check if you see same issue.

Can I copy and paste iMovie projects?

I have made a project which I mistakenly set at 30fps. All of my original clips are 25fps. Is there any way of copying the whole project and pasting it onto a new project that is set at 25fps?
