Copy and paste clips in different tracks

Hi everyone!
Since i upgrade from premiere pro to CS4, some easy stuff like copying and pasting my clip from one track to another one does't work.
When a select a clip in my timeline then i hit CTRL+C then i select another video track and hit CTRL+V instead of copying the clip in the selected video track, it just copy it back in the same track it was before.
I know, it's not such a big deal but i fouded it really useful so if anyone know how to do that it would really help me out.
Thanx a lot for all your response
gen

Hi Jim,
Thank you for you'r answer.
Like as you said, i've been targeting the track and only one track at a time but i'll start by downloading the update 4.1 and see what happen. I'll let you guys know it it fix my problem.
Thanx again,

I am having problems copying and pasting clips from one project timeline to another. When I do this they often alter in length. Sometimes by two frames. Other times they lose a chunk off the end of the last clip in the sequence. Has anyone else found this?

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.

  • Premiere Pro CC(2014) crashing when copying and pasting clips

Has anyone found Premiere to hang when copy and pasting clips from one sequence to another, or even within the same sequence.
Sometimes, it hangs then comes back to life.  Other time I just have to force quit.
    Thanks

I don't recall reports of such a problem. We'll need more info to attempt to troubleshoot the issue. Start with the prompts on this page: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum? Especially the details on your computer.
    Also, please report the following:
the types of content in your sequence, particularly in segments you're pasting. The source(s) of the content, the codec(s), the duration of copied segments?
    where the content is stored?
whether either sequence was imported from a third-party program via XML or the like?
the sequence settings of both sequences?
what effects & transitions are in use, particularly in the segments you're pasting?
what is resource usage before and during the copy/paste operation? Is a CPU getting pegged? Does memory usage spike precipitously?

  • Pasting clip to different track not working

Just trying a simple task that doesn't seem to work correctly. I want to copy a clip on track one, and paste it to track two. I have tried all combinations of changing source and destination controls. Clip always pastes to track one, not track two as intended. What am I missing?
    Thanks.
    Tom

Depending on the version of FCE you;re using, copy and pasting functions are not controlled by the destination track settings but by the autoselect buttons. The lowest autoselected track will be the track the material will paste to.

  • Copy and paste clips to anamorphic sequence...having trouble

I captured all my broll DV/DVCPRO NTSC Anamorphic. I started editing on a sequence that was not checked for anamorphic under Sequence Settings.
In order to fix this, I created a new sequence with the anamorphic box checked and copied all of my edits from the previous sequence. Now it seems like the anamorphic has been applied twice, like it seems widescreen twice over.
I was wondering if it were possible to copy my edits from the wrong sequence and paste them into the sequence with right settings, while keeping the correct anamorphic view. If not, then it seems I would have to redo all my edits on the correct sequence.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Jeff, when you copied and pasted your edits then those clips retained all previously applied settings, filters etc, including those distortions automatically applied by FCP that made your anamorphic clips display properly in the older non-anamorphic sequence .. what you need to do is to remove those distortions:
Select all the clips in the new timeline (Cmd-A) then invoke the Remove Attributes dialog (Cmd-Opt-V) and put a tick in the Distort checkbox, then click OK.
That should do it ... although if you did any intentional distortions then those will have to be redone as they will be removed along with the automatic anamorphic distortion.

  • Copy and Paste Clips within iMovie

Using iMovie 11.  I have football games that I edit and bookmark.  I also save clips from each game for a season highlight video.  I can copy the clips from a game project and paste to the highlight project.  I am unable to paste clips to the highlight event.  I want to delete each game from the project library as I finish it, but don't want to delete the source video for the highlight project.  Thanks!

  • Copy and Past voiceover between different videos

I need to split a video into three sections.  I have recorded voice over in the video (appears in the blue boxes under the video clips).  Is there a way to copy those from one video and paste them into another?

    Hi there,
If all you're trying to do is to move from one video clip to another, dragging will suffice. But if, as I imagine, you're trying to move it to another project, copy/paste won't work on the narration track.
Find the project file in the Finder, and right click to select "Show Package Contents". This will enable you to see your voice over recordings and from there you could drag and drop 'em onto the new project. After you do such and have your narrations in place, it would be advisable to go into iMovie's File menu and hit "Consolidate Media…" so that your voice overs would be copied and referenced to the current project (should you decide to trash the original).
Be advised that the newly dragged narration will work as a regular audio track and not as a narration track (you will have to perform the audio ducking manually) and its color will revert to the default "green".
    Hope this helps.

  • Copy and paste clips from one project to another

i have made highlight film of my kids playing sports over the months. i would like to make one that had bits and pieces of all the previous. how do i see all the frames like you can in the events section?

    Hi
NO ! - and when iMovie moved from the 1 to HD6 series (in last versions this worked greatly) - to iMovie'08 or 09 or 11
This basic and very vital function was lost (among lot's of Important functions)
There is a cumbersome way around (most probably more than one way to do it - this is mine)
    • Duplicate the project with needed clips (ctrl-click on its title in Project Library list)
    • In Copy - Delete what You don't need
    • Share it as a full Quality QuickTime .mov
    • Import this into Your New Project
Cons: Effects and texts and so on can not be further edited as the clip-movie is flatted to one piece - If You need to do this I suggest You to re-build from scratch.

  • COPY AND PASTE FREEZE TRACKS

Hey all, i usually make 8 or 16 bar loops before i copy and paste------->> out to create a song. i use alot of native instruments on some tracks. i can freeze those tracks for the 8 or 16 bar length, which i like to do because its a shorter time that freezing a track thats 60 bars long. so my question is how can i freeze 8 or 16 bars worth of music then copy and paste out the tracks for say 60 bars or so?

every measure needs to start and end EXACTLY on a measure marker
that said, you're doing this the hard way.
grab the top right corner of the region and drag right as long as you wish
or better yet, just turn on the cycle region button and stretch the yellow bar to encompass your segment, it will play forever.

  • Copy and paste tracks precisely

I'm trying to create a drum beat with my drum set about say, 2 minutes long, and I want to be able to copy and paste so that it is about 10 minutes long or more. Reason being so that I can improvise and play along to the beat for as long as I want. I don't want to have to play the beat by hand for 10 minutes to get a clip that long.
Problem is I'm having trouble copying and pasting clips so that everything stays in time. I've been able to do this sort of thing with final cut in the past just by copy and pasting clips, and I'm wondering if this would be possible in garageband? Thanks.

  • Copy and paste midi tracks

How can I copy an existing midi track and paste the content to another midi track.  It seems that I can copy and paste to the same track, however, the clipboard info doesn't appear to be available when I create a new track and attempt to paste the content.

ctrl-cmd-E does not work? And cmd-1 doesn't work either?
Let's hope then that alt-K works, because that is where you can set keycommands. Any of the presets in the dropdown menu top left contains the commands you need.
I just did it myself, to check it; every keycommand preset there is, contains both combo's I've given.
I have no idea if there's a menu item for the Automation Event list, I guess there should be since there's no • in front of it (• before a command meaning it has no menu item), but I cannot find it, and I don't even know if it works using menu items. cmd-1 should work, always, but it's also under Window>Arrange.

  • Cut and pasting clips to a new movie causes 15x file size increase!!

I'm using 6.04 iMovie. I'm converting 8mm analog video via Canopus 300 into imovie. These movies were of an action sport and very few clips are over ten minutes when imported.
I have 4 files(sourced from 4 tapes) from 22-28GB in imovie. I have edited these files, removing bad video, unwanted scenes and have added transitions and titles. The resulting files are each from 22-28Gb's in size.
I then went to make a highlight video by copying and pasting clips from two of the movies. The resulting highlight movie exceeds 160Gb's I have two more movies to past clips from!
I am aware of the "non-destructive" editing feature of Imovie. In the process of editing the individual movies and putting together the highlight movie I emptied trash frequently.
    My questions:
1.) What is the best procedure to cut and paste clips from movies to make a highlight movie?
2.) What can i do with my highlight video to get the size back down to around 15 Gb's? (I've only used about 25% of each of the two first tapes in the highlight video)
    Thanks

    Hello, Scott,
iMovie moves clips to the trash that you have deleted.....if you are not using any part of that clip. If you are using any part of it, the parts you crop out, 'delete,' will be removed from your movie, but not put into trash and not removed from iMovie's project file. If you use 10 seconds of a 30 second clip, for example, but later decide that you really need to have more than the 10 seconds, say you need 15 seconds, all you have to do is go click on that 10 second clip in your movie and then go to 'Advanced' and select 'Revert clip to original' and iMovie will put back the entire clip for you to re-crop.
It is not exactly the same for still photos. If you are using still photos with the Ken Burns effect, emptying the trash will remove the photo's 'clip' and you will not be able to redo the KB effect if you decide to change it. Leaving the trash alone will permit iMovie to retrieve the photo so that you can make those edits. Some of us never empty the trash in iMovie.
When you export as Full quality Quick Time, you are getting just that.....Full Quality, no changes from the original. Your movie is not being compressed, it is shortened because you are saving only the clips that are actually used in the movie, not all the rest. Nothing is lost in quality and you can edit as usual, except for the ability to retrieve any clips that are not in the movie. You will not be able to use the 'Revert clip to original,' now because you have a new set of 'originals.'
So, when you export to quicktime, be sure that you are completely finished with the cropping of your clips and that you will not need to add anything that you previously deleted. I export to quicktime and then open a new iMovie and import the new qt movie into that. Once you see that it plays properly, you can delete the first iMovie and just work with this one. However, it will come in as one large clip, with audio and video incorporated into one track. You will not be able to re-edit titles and effects. (Well, you CAN do it a bit, but it is tricky and you will lose some footage).
I actually make a quicktime version of almost all of my iMovies. I find that this process eliminates any jerkiness or stuttering of my longer movies. I edit the original iMovie by cropping clips, adding photos, putting in titles and transitions. I then add audio last, usually first some short audio clips to go with some of the photos, and then I add background music last. I usually export to quicktime during the adding music part, whenever iMovie starts playing back in a stuttering way. The new quicktime movie is smooth and I can finish my music additions easily.
Apparently, the latest version of quicktime is much better for the jerkiness problem, but I have been hesitant to upgrade since I am in the midst of doing about 4 iMovies.
    Good luck with your project!

Under ios 5 you can easily copy photos from any existing slbum to a new album.. You just cannot ( or at least i cannot) put them into an existing album.

  • Copy and Paste Keyframes?

Is there no way to copy and paste keyframes from one track to another? I've also tried duplicating the track, but the keyframes don't duplicate. This would be a very useful, timesaving feature. Another would be the ability to directly edit a keyframe by selecting it and entering a value for the volume.

What version of Audition are you using?
I'm pretty sure that keyframes duplicate when you duplicate a track in Audition CC
I certainly agree that directly entering a value for a keyframe would be MOST useful - here's hopeing.....
