Copy and pasting Arabic script

Hi there..
I have a pdf file which contains Arabic script. When I copy and paste the Arabic script I get boxes with alien faces in them.

pdf cannot be relied upon for copy/paste (and various other things) when using Arabic and various other scripts because of the different encoding systems used depending on how it was produced. The only thing you can do is try different readers (e.g. Adobe Reader instead of Preview) and different recipient apps -- or try to get the text in some other more reliable format (.doc, .rtf, .txt, .html, etc).

Copying and pasting Arabic text in InDesign CS4 ME

We have an arabic document in pdf and word formats and we have InDesign CS4 ME and we are trying to copy and paste text from the pdf/word document but the font isn't transferring, there is nothing only boxes. We have turned on the arabic keyboard and that didnt help either. Working on a mac.
Can anyone help us? What is the solution?

Well, why should it. Unless you are typing Arabic, that won't do anything at all. Copy-and-paste is not typing.
If copy-and-paste does not copy the font along so you get the pinky squares in InDesign, it only means that your default InDesign font does not support those characters. Select your text and then choose another font -- one you are sure of contains Arabic.
If you still get pink squares, it's more likely the text in the PDF is not encoded properly, and in that case no-one can't help you -- but it ought to work directly from Word.

Copy and paste Java script for password protecting a page?

I need to password protect one page which I want to call my LOGIN page on a site I'm making in Dreamweaver CS5.5. Unfortunately I know that the hosting company I'm using does not have the ability to allow me password a single directory on the server end to accomplish this (I know STRANGE) .... SO
I found some code online - java script that I can just copy and paste into the <head> section of my page. This might be a silly question but is this a 'safe' way to do this? (I don't need anything fancy and the people whom will be accessing this page will all have the SAME password, so I don't need a registration form or anything fancier...)
Any thoughts?

Ugg I totally knew you would all say that (because I already knew that would offer me the easiest solution), change hosts and now I'm embarrassed to say that YES I am paying for the hosting; BUT, I have to explain that I'm with this hosting company because way back when I started that site I needed something super user friendly because I was just learning. Now I have learned more and have started to use Dreamweaver. I just stayed with the same hosting and will use FTP to upload my new more updated site. In the company's defense even though they do offer a way to FTP a site up, their main objective (I think) is to have a really easy way for people to get a site up without knowing anything about code or css or anything; and they operate under the assumption that MOST of their customers will be using their super easy software and not use FTP. That is why I think they are limited to what they offer, at least that is my take on it. My more recent sites do not use this company as I have tried to learn and 'move up'.
Anyway I guess if I don't want to switch hosting I still have the same problem. Is it really that difficult to make something that has just one use ID and password which would be the same thing for every person? Might be a great learning experience for me?

How come when I copy and paste, my font is not carrying the shadow??

I am trying to edit a menu and when I copy and paste the script it does not carry over the shadowing. I am new to Adobe PS and I dont even know how to shade in the first place! Someone please guide me in the right direction! Thanks

Here's a handy thing: If you right-click on the layer in the Layers palette you can copy just the layer style, then right click on the layer in the destination image and paste the layer style.

Don't know how or where to create user.js file so I can add script to allow copy and paste into a webbased email

I am trying to compose an email from the email address on my web page. The email editor program (or Mozilla) doesn't allow me to do that. The instructions that Mozilla provided said to find the user.js file in Firefox's profile directory. I can't find such a file. I don't know where or how to create this file or how to write into it the lines that the instructions provided. I also don't know what url I am supposed to substitute for mozila.org that is in the lines of script.

Now, to to do what I need to do I have to add something to the user.js file as per directions regarding ''setting prefs for Mozilla Rich Text Editing Demo'' to allow a copy and paste. It instructs me to change the URL from mozila.org to where I want to enable the function. I am not sure what that means. I am trying to to do something in the "back office" of my web site. I want to send an email from the web site's email. I am trying to copy and paste a pdf file into the body of the email but was not able to do it. I was directed to the setting prefs page. Do I change the location to the URL of my web site or the web site of the web host?

Copy and Pasting Script

Not quite sure where to post this so pardon me if you see it multiple times. What I am trying to do is copy multiple different lines from one word doc and paste them into another word doc, without repeatedly doing copy and paste. Lets call one doc form A and one doc form B, say there is a heading under form A which says “Facility Name” and a heading in form B that says “Facility Name”
A heading on form A that says, “Address” and a heading in form B that says, “Address”.
So on and so forth I would like some simple way with a script or something to copy all the different Heading information from one doc to the other. Without continually doing copy and paste 50 times like I am doing now. Any good ideas?

I believe you can do it. I do not know if it works in Word. I do not have the latest version and scripting previous versions of Word is basically doing VB. However....
...here is my idea. Say you have 2 documents with 3 forms, Form A, Form B, Form C, to read the input of Form A in document 1 (source) you can use text item delimiters.
Initially,
set mytext to read _source
set text item delimiters to "Form A"
set contentsof_formA to text item 2 of mytext
set text item delimiters to "Form B"
set contentsof_formA to text item 1 of contentsof_formA
--- you got the contents of Form A
To put it in document 2 (target)
set mytext1 to read _target
set k to (offset of "Form A" in mytext1) + 3
set mytext1 text 1 thru k of mytext1 & contentsof_formA & text (k+1) thru -1 of mytext1
--- you've put the text where you want it.
Now, as I said, it might not work with Word. You could try TextEdit. But may be reading the text in Word will work.
This is left as an exercise!

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

CS4 problems copying and pasting masked items

The problem: Copying and pasting a placed image combined with other Illustrator art with multiple gausian blurs that have been masked/grouped. Placed image type does not matter. PDF, JPG, TIFF, etc placed in Illustrator CS4 (or 3). Some images are complex and others are not.
What happens: After copying and pasting, the masked (grouped) image breaks apart into separate components that are no longer masked/grouped. Happens with different files with different images on different computers. WIth or without text in document. Sometimes image pastes correctly but most times it does not.
Hardware/OS: 3 separate iMacs (20" and two 23") all with intel chips but different processing speeds. All running latest and most updated version of Leopard. All with 4 MB Ram and more than a 100 GB of free hard drive space.
Software: Illustrator CS4 (latest update) and CS3 on one of the 23" iMacs.
Solutions tried so far: Ran Onyx, repaired permissions, scripts, cleaned caches, zapped PRAM and on one iMac, ran Disk Warrior. Tried in Safe boot mode and tired with a new user account. Created new files with new images and tried old files. Tried opening files from the server and from the desktop. Threw out illustrator prefs and emptied trash.
Thought it may have to do with font conflicts but some files don't have fonts. Turned off font management programs (Suitcase on one iMac, Font Explorer Pro on others, all updated to latest version) and restarted so only system fonts loaded. No luck. Turned on fonts used in various documents, still no luck.
Thought it may have to do with memory issues after copying masked items. Sometimes the copied image would paste correctly and then the next time I pasted it, it would not. Before pasting a second time I would copy a small item (to clear the memory) and then paste it and then recopy the masked item and paste that. Still no luck.
Checked activity monitor but nothing looks to be a memory hog or out of place. Happens on all three iMacs and while the OS and Illustrator are common to all three, Fonts and font management tools are not. No weird plug-ins or third party extensions installed. Plus it happened in safe boot mode so all extraneous fonts and such should have been deactivated.
Curiously, if I drag copy the masked item using the option key, the masked item copies fine. I know this can be used as a work-around but I would like to resolve this as sometimes the designers need/want to use command-c/command-v.
Not sure what else to try. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you.

This might work, this might not. I have copy paste problems
on a regular basis and all that works for me is closing Captivate
down and then re open and continue. At worst, a reboot tends to
solve this glitch in my experience.

Copying and pasting frames

Hello
I have found a nice online form in a tutorial.
Is it possible to simply copy and paste the frames into my
FLA file - will it copy the Action Script as well? I can import the
library items, but wondered if there were any drawbacks to doing it
this way. How do I know if what I paste in will not conflict with
what I already have?

Select the needed frames, do a right click and select copy
frames
go back to your original fla select one frame do a rightclick
and select paste frames
you need to import the library objects manally.

Copy and paste ignores track text edit preview settings?

Hi all,
Working with FM9 and another editor that requires me to copy and paste from FM9 into the other.
Enable and use tracking text edits in FM9.
Preview Final to hide the edits.
Copy and paste a paragraph that contains edits.
When I paste into the target text editor, the "deleted" text is also displayed.
Any way to prevent text hidden with a condition tag (which is how the tracking changes are marked) from being copied?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, not in FM itself. The only way would be to create a finalized FM doc with the changes accepted prior to copy / paste.
It would be possible with a Framescript, though -- something like this: the user copies the text, hits a specified function key, the script pastes the text onto a special reference page, deletes the "deleted" text, recopies the text and then it beeps so that the user can then paste into the target editor.

[JS] [CS5] Copy and paste into existing array

Hi Guys,
right now I'm trying to improve the performance of a Script I wrote by copying and pasting a PDF instead of loading it 10 times.
And here's the problem:
When pasting the copied PDF it doesn't paste it into the array the original PDF is in but this is exactly what I need for the further script.
Can I somehow paste the PDF into the Array and a specific position [i]?
I'm adding the important parts of the script.

Problems with copy and paste document size

Using Adobe illustrator I have been copying images from a .pdf and then pasting in photoshop having made an action script which does : -
>Make New document
preset clipboard
>Paste
with aa
as: smart object

Translate 0, cm , 0cm

Quality 12
Matte: none
In E:/my documents....

most of the time it works but occasionaly pasting into photoshop the clipboard size is wrong it makes it much much smaller,
even if i bypass using the script and copy from illustrator and in PS try Ctrl N and Ctrl V.
Sometimes also clipboard isnt even selectable it wants to use a specific document size.
The only way I can fix it is close down Ai and PS, launch Ai and PS, copy in Ai then in PS press Ctrl N for New, choosing clipboard, Ctrl V to paste enter to confirm, then it seems happy and I can then carry on using my Actions or manually pasting to my hearts content.
My question is what is causing it to have this quirk, how can I avoid it if possible or is there no avoiding it?

Generally a bad idea. Word's HTML formatting is notoriously
flawed. And,
HTML doesn't allow tabs. You probably need to take time to
learn (X)HTML &
CSS before going further. You seem to be headed for disaster
if you expect
to just grab text from Word and plop it into a web page with
good results.
Web pages are in an entirely different world than Word docs.

The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
So, changing one line ought to do it:
close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
tell application "Microsoft Word"
set doc_count to count documents
repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
end repeat
end tell

Copy and paste issue

While trying to create a simple copy and paste function ( from one open document / image into another open document in Photoshop CS5 ) like:

I have noticed that many times it doesn't paste the image and the next code throws unexpected results, but if I run it in debug mode and place a breakpoint just after calling the function ( like forcing a pause) then it runs fine.
Tried also with scripting listener code, both in flex and Java with the same result; this also happens with a File - place script.
I tried to insert a loop at the end of the process checking if the number of layers have increased after the paste call, and they actually increase but the image is not pasted
For some reason it seems that the clipboard is not working as expected when the process is fast ¿?. Have also tried to clear the clipboard and to purge with no luck.
I have had similar issues with Java scripting before but they were solved using the listener code instead, but it doesn't works now. Other users have the same problem but haven't found a solution.
I'm using CS5 and Extension Builder 1.5.0.2 with Flash Builder 4.5.1

Copy the text, click on the Desktop, CMD+B, and see if it shows up there. If not, then delete the com.apple.finder.plist from your /Library/Preferences folder, OPTION-click & hold the Finder's Dock icon, and select RELAUNCH. That should fix the issue.

Copy and paste from word to InDesign - foreign characters

Hello,
I have a Word file using foreign typefaces, Chinese, Korean etc. I have the fonts on my machine because the word document shows them OK..but, if I try to copy and paste the text into InDesign, those characters either don't show at all, or you just get the pink color with the little gray squares...Does anyone out there have any tips for how to handle this type of situation.

Ooooh, okay. I retract my finger-waggling cautionary statement.
It could be one of a number of different things. I almost always place instead of copy/paste, but I don't have any difficulty copying & pasting complex script text of any sort in any of my various versions and platforms. I'd figure that there are two different possible routes - either there's something about the styling or clipboard that is doing this (meaning that it could be unpacked exactly the same way as any font drop, no complex-script knowledge necessary) or there's something about the non-Latin text itself that is causing the problem. Take a look at the clipboard settings (Edit -> Preferences -> Clipboard Handling) to see if changing those settings resolves the issue, by e.g. changing the settings to raw text.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest posting a lot more detail. Platform, versions of Word and Indy, the particular fonts that are failing, a description of how styles are set up in the current Word and Indy docs, perhaps a sample of the Word and Indy docs zipped up and made available for testing (e.g. if I can successfully copy/paste into the doc when your user can't, then there's something wrong with the user's install), and so on. Without that kind of information, the best I can do is take random guesses.
