Copy and Pasting Layers between .FLA files?

Can I either Cut or Copy and paste a layer from A.fla to
B.fla (one Flash file to another)?

I too would like to know the answer to this question. I recently purchased what I was supposed to be a component. I turned it to be a .fla file. I need to get the contents (MCs, Buttons, Actionscript, etc.) into an existing file. It is a button that is designed to toggle the sound on and off. I would like to use in my existing home page .fla, but can't seem to even copy the elements over one by one. Any ideas?

Can I simply copy and paste an existing library file from XP to a Mac and then copy and paste the music files themselves? Of course, the music files will be in a different location...

I have an aged XP machine with a large music library in ITunes. iTunes will not run any longer (tried uninstalling and reinstalling etc to no avail) but the music files are backed up onto an external drive so all safe. I have purchased a Mac which of course already has iTunes installed and I can copy the music files onto the Mac, but can I simply copy and paste the iTunes library files from the XP machine to the Mac so that all of the playlists, tags, ratings etc transfer, or do I have to start again?

Sounds like you have a split library. Ideally you would make this portable before attempting to move it to the Mac. See make a split library portable for details.
Perhaps you can get iTunes running on the old box long enough to sort things out...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
You will also want to deauthorize the XP system once everything is working properly on the Mac.

Hi Hans,
I can get a reference error here if the destination table does not have that range available while the source table does.
Are you sure your desination table has exactly the same structure and dimensions as your source table?
If it does, copy/paste via the Formula Editor should work. It works reliably here.
Also the formula in your latest post looks as if it might be corrupted-- lots of extra spaces (it seems). Did your orginal formula have those?
To sort this out, suggest turning off 'Use header names as labels' in Preferences.
If you end up with a formula in a cell as just Text (as Ian describes that's what happens when you copy from Numbers 2) you can convert that text to a formula by double-clicking the cell, clicking just before the text so that the insertion point appears in front of it and typing =. That activates the Formula Editor with the formula in it, which you can accept by clicking the green checkmark or hitting return.

Copy and paste styles between objects and entire slides

Hi,
In Keynote 5 I was able to copy and paste styles between objects and even between entire slides.
cmd+alt+c on one object (like a circle) and all its details like shadows, colors and animations could be transferred to another object.
One could even do it with entire slides and transfer one animation style to all the other slides.
THAT DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.
Does anybody else miss these features?
Or is it just me?

object animations tools are:
copy animation:   Format > Copy Animation
paste animation   Format > Paste Animation
     there are no keyboard short commands for these.
There are no tools to copy or paste transitions between slides, you could duplicate the slide then add the content.

Why won't illustrator Cs5 allow me to copy and paste layers when they aren't locked?

I am working on a project and when I try to copy and paste unlocked layers to paste them in to another image it doesn't paste. The only thing it pastes is the text unformatted. I tried resetting the settings by removing the setting file to see if I can set Illustrator back to square one and it isn't working. See Picture for before (copy) and After (paste)

I am also using windows 8 on a pc. I would say it was the OS but it was working fine untill yesterday. I am begging for help on this. It is really ruining my work flow today.

i didn't try to copy and past yet, cause the document it seems fine, have you fixed it? otherwise i can say another stupid thing, i dont know if it's cause the document is too "heavy" for your computer? have you seen if you are not going out of ram or of some hard disk space? at first i could thinking about resetting the settings in Illustrator but since you just said that you already did it, and also that you tried with a CS6 copy, i think it's not that the case.
edit: i tried to copy and paste as well, for me it's working.

Copy and Pasted Items Open Original File

How can I stop items that were copy and pasted from one document to another to stop opening the original (copied from) file when selected in the new (pasted into) file?

InDesign works different than other programs you may be used to, which is causing your problem.
When you want to include a graphic, don't copy it and paste it into InDesign. In general, that will produce a low-resolution copy. Instead, choose File > Place, and navigate to the graphic you want to include on your hard drive, and place it. That creates a link to the external graphic. You'll be able to view the link in the Links panel (Window > Links).
It would also be better to create a new text frame with the Type tool, and paste content into it; or to choose File > Place to place an external file, like a Word document.

Copy and paste array between instances?

I have A.vi and B.vi. The last time I used these was in 8.6. I now have to use them on a machine with 8.2, but A.vi does not work in 8.2 without a bunch of tweaking, so I made it A.exe.
A.exe builds and recalls files that contain arrays of DaqMx channels. I create long lists of channels once, and then since they are stored to a file, do not have to create them again. In the past, instead of adding code to B.vi to call the file, I would just open the file I wanted with A.vi, then copy the data from the array of channels, and paste it into the front panel of B.vi before pressing run.
I cannot do this now. Is it because A is an EXE so the two are in different Application instances? I have not tried making B an EXE (nor do I want to), but I think it wouldn't matter because they would still be in different instances?

You recreated numeric and string controls in an EXE. I agree that you can swipe these, CTRL C, and then CTRL V in to a VI. If I replace the CTRL C action with a Right Click> copy data, I get a picture in the VI.
I can go to a numeric or text control or indicator within my EXE, right click, copy data, then paste that into another control within my EXE. If I then immediately go to a control in the VI, the Right Click>paste data option is greyed out and doing CTRL V drops a picture of the controlon the front panel. I did not select the control when I copied, I only highlighted the data inside the control.
CTRL C or CTRL V is never an option when operating on array controls. I do not want to copy and paste individual lines of the array, I want the whole array data. This is done by right clicking on the numeric within the array index display and choosing copy data. In an EXE, this is your first option. In a VI while running, this is the third option. In a VI while not running, this is under data operations.
I tried every combination of running and not running, and took screenshots, but it is hard to see exaclty what action I am performing.

I always advise my Contribute clients to "scrub" any Microsoft text before pasting it. You might be able to do this by changing the doc to .txt? Hopefully that would get rid of the layout code embedded in a doc or docx document.
However, since I don't trust anything Microsoft seems to have excess code attached, I first put it into Text Edit on my Mac and save it. Not sure what the equivalent program is on Windows. I think an email program could work just as well, Twigman. You might ask your tech how to save the MS doc so it has no code, like pure ascii text. That way, they will not have to leave Word to scrub the old code out.

Why does formatting get lost when copy and pasting slides between projects?

I'm beginning to copy and paste several slides from a project that was created in Captivate 6. I've opened the project in 7.0.1 and saved it. Next, I've copy and pasted about 20-30 slides from the old project into my new template. In the process, many slides have lost "bold" and "bullets". It's worth noting that many slides have remained correct. I also find myself having to reset slide templates and toggle off quiz buttons that I've already toggled off in old project.
This isn't part of the same problem, but related. When I copy slides from the new template I mentioned into the old one (in hopes that Advanced Actions would transfer correctly), I've noticed that none of the item names have transferred over with the copy and paste. Instead of seeing the button name I've created, it changes to "shape, text_caption, etc", the default.
I'm hoping the copy pasting between projects becomes more efficient, I'm finding myself burning unneccessary time doing more QA and microscopic investigation, although I suppose more QA isn't always a bad thing.
System is the following:

When copy/pasting between different versions that has always been a problem, especially with question slides. There seem always to be changes that make such a transfer difficult. Did you try to open the CP6 project first in CP7 and see what worked? And do you use exactly the same theme (object styles, master slides, skin editor)?
Copy/paste slides, objects with advanced actions: bit same problem, works best if done between CP7 projects. The problem that each object needs to have a unique ID (name) is what causes the renaming to generic names.

Copy and Paste layers

I'm unsure of the correct workflow, but I recently colorgraded a 30 minute film, matched everyclip the best I can using the primary layer and a RED flut. Now I want to change the overall look using secondary (i.e to change all the greens). The only problem is that I cannot find a solution without erasing all my previous work as Speedgrade will not allow me to paste individual layers. Using an ajustment layer is also not the answer, as not everyclip requires it. Any suggestions?
Hopefully Adobe will add the copying of layers in the future like photoshop.

This is a serious problem in Direct Link, the lack of a versatil copy/paste in SG. In native mode with grading layers there aren't problem, but in Direct Link mode is a big issue.
This is my feature request more wished: a new and smart method for copy/paste/add layers in the layer stack: select the layer or layers to copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (replacing previous layers) in the selected clip or clips (selected by mouse or the clips between In and Out marks) (Ctrl+V), and two variations: Ctrl+Shift+C for copy only selected features (grade, mask, keyframes, etc) and Ctrl+Shift+V for add like new layer.

Copy and Past voiceover between different videos

I need to split a video into three sections. I have recorded voice over in the video (appears in the blue boxes under the video clips). Is there a way to copy those from one video and paste them into another?

Hi there,
If all you're trying to do is to move from one video clip to another, dragging will suffice. But if, as I imagine, you're trying to move it to another project, copy/paste won't work on the narration track.
Find the project file in the Finder, and right click to select "Show Package Contents". This will enable you to see your voice over recordings and from there you could drag and drop 'em onto the new project. After you do such and have your narrations in place, it would be advisable to go into iMovie's File menu and hit "Consolidate Media…" so that your voice overs would be copied and referenced to the current project (should you decide to trash the original).
Be advised that the newly dragged narration will work as a regular audio track and not as a narration track (you will have to perform the audio ducking manually) and its color will revert to the default "green".

I have a track on my first project I want to put on my second project but I can't seem how to figure it out because I can never have two open and I don't know how to open up different projects within a gargeband project.

Copy/paste in a Word document loses its format (bullet points, coloured tex, etc) when Firefox is open. When I close Firefox it is fine again. I am not talking about copying and pasting text between MS Word and Firefox. It is within MS Word itself.
