Copy Apple TV files to computer

Hi there,
I recently had to replace the HD on my MacBook - the machine which is synchronised with my Apple TV. I hadn't backed up for six weeks (I know, I know...). I have made purchases from iTunes in that time and these are all stored nice and safe on my Apple TV. I'd like to find a way to get these files back to my MacBook. I realise that due to DRM issues Apple doesn't officially support this but does anyone know a way? I've found some incredibly geeky and complex websites which use Terminal to hack the Apple TV but they look kinda scary.
Thanks in advance.

I'm happy to bust it open. Is the HD in the right format to be read by a Mac?
Yes, though clearly you'll need a USB or firewire caddy for the PATA drive.
I'm not sure if filenames are preserved for synced items though.
The PATA drive has at least 3 partitions I believe, one of which is teh system restore image.
Long story but I do have a backup regime - in fact in four different places. I don't use the ATV as a backup or rely on it for that. It just so happens that, due to some REALLY unfortunate timing, of all the places I have backups/copies of my iTunes library the ATV is the most up to date.
Bad luck. Unfortunately things fail even when you have a strategy for backup, and these days I'm starting to think I'm amassing far too much data and really need to be ruthless about what I need to back up and what I could regenerate easily though often time consuming (eg iTunes imported CDs, if I have the CDs they're effectively my backup, but iTunes purchases need backing up physically).
I've lost the will to backup anything to DVD anymore as it's so time consuming, and even BluRay won't take huge amounts of data, so I'd rather backup to cheap external drives.

how to copy pdf files from computer to ipad

You can PDFs to the iPad, but first you need one or more apps on the iPad that supports PDFs - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app.
Options include free apps such as Apple's iBooks app and also Adobe Reader - and paid-for apps such as GoodReader (which also supports read-only of other documents types).
For iBooks you can first add the PDFs to your computer's iTunes via File > Add To Library, and you can then sync them by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC) and using the Books tab on the right-hand side to select and sync them.
For Adobe Reader adnd GoodReader you can use the file sharing on the Apps tab on the right-hand side to copy them over : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094

  • HT2548 how do i copy the domain file from OS 10.4 to a lion OS computer?  I made a copy of the domain file and copied it to my new computer, but it doesn't open in iweb when I double-click on it.

How do I import an iweb domain file from an ibook (OS 10.4) to an imac (OS 10.73)?
I copied the domain file from my ibook to my imac, but when I double-click on the file, it doesn't open in iweb.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.  Then place the domain file in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

If not is there a way I can link the folders to itunes (without downloading files to computer) that will make them view-able for the apple TV?
If none of that works is there a way to get it working alternativly?
    Additional Information:
Everything is linked via ethernet cable.
I'm using a PC to set it up.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I'll help where I can.
    Thank you for any help

(I think the daughter got he better end of the deal!)   I believe if you change the password and user id one of the devices it will stop that from occurring. But I'm not the one to tell you how to do it; someone like "Illaass" (Illaass seems to know how to correct / fix almost anything!) will know how if you don't. Just look for the "cat" icon.

  • Is a copy of .xml file on the iPod too? If so, how can I copy ONLY the .xml file to my computer and NOT have to copy all my music files too?

I had to re-load my OS (Windows XP Pro) from a HD snapshot via Acronis True Image Server. I save my OS on my C: drive and all my data files on my D: drive.  So when I re-loaded my OS, I still have all of my music files intact.
I have re-loaded the OS before and had to re-create iTunes library which I did by doing the follwing:
    1. cut & paste .xml file in iTunes folder to desktop
    2. delete .itl file in iTunes folder
    3. import .xml file through iTunes  file>library>iport playlist
    4. navigate to .xml file on desktop and import
This worked last time I re-loaded my OS but not this time for some reason.
So I'm wondering if there is a copy of the .xml file on the iPod itself in the iPod_Control folder that I can copy and paste to my comuter desktop and import via the above steps?
I have seen all kinds of solutions on the web that include copying the music files from the iPod to the computer.  I don't need to do that.  I have the music files.  I just need the .xml file so iTunes can talk to my iPod (5th Generation - 30G).

Backup your music library, that is the only way to ensure it does not go missing through theft, damage, operator error, machine breaks, upgrades go wrong, operator goes wrong .........

I want all of my app date, music, videos, ect to be on a new computer. Is it possible to back up my iPod Touch 3g on my old computer and copy the backup file onto the new computer? If so, how?

Before your restoring your iPhone with your PC at work, you can create a backup of your iPhone on the PC before restoring.
With your iPhone connected and available in the iTunes source list, control click on your iPhone and select Back Up.

  • HT4854 Can I copy the downloaded file to another computer to avoid the 4gigs re-download?

I'm downloading ML and it takes A LOT to download the 4gb install files, can I just copy the downloaded files into my other computer so I can avoid re-downloading it?

When Mountain Lion is fully downloaded it will automatically start. DO NOT click the Install button. Instead Quit the installer. Make a copy and put it in your Downloads folder for safe keeping. Now, see the following:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Can't I load my CS6 software on a second computer, I have copied the dmg file but the serial number is not recognised.

Hi, I have successfully loaded my new CS6 Design Web Premier software onto my Mac. I am trying to also instal it on my daughters laptop. I have the dmg file, but when I run installer, I enter the serial number and it says its not recognised?
Is there a way around this? Please don't tell me I've just loaded it onto the wrong computer!
    Nicole.

You mention in the title that you copied the dmg file.  Do you mean you copied it from one machine to the other?  If so, acquire the installation files the same way you did for your machine and install using that.

  • All Apple products on my computer are not working properly

Hello, i am having trouble with my itunes, Quicktime, and all other apple products on my computer.
This all start when i tried to update my Itunes(which was working fine minus this problem) and it would not let me. It kept giving me the error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" when i hit ok "The path C\:user\Danie\appdata\Local\Apple\Apple software update\ Itunes64.msi cannot be found verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package Itunes64.msi in a folder from which you can install the product". This happenede with the installation of Quicktime to.
Finally i got fed up with these errors and decided to get rid of Itunes and Quicktime all togther. I went to the programs area and i tried to uninstall and to my joy got the exact same error as when i tried to update. It would not let me Reinstall Uninstall or update anything related to apple products because of the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" error.
I finally manually went and uninstalled the folder through program files into the bin and deleted but despite that i still have the program Itunes listed in my Programs and features page and it still wont let me reinstall or remove it. All it ended up doing was causing me not to be able to use itunes on my laptop at all.
Further information im on a Dell Laptop using a 64bit system Windows 7.
Thank you for anyhelp you can offer in getting this problem fixed

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes and QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • How can I copy my music files to my iPAD. The CDs are currently stored in folders on my PC. Note: Synching via iCLOUD won't work because I have VISTA OS and I need at least Windows 7 or 8.

How can I copy my music files to my iPAD. The CDs are currently stored in folders on my PC. Note: Synching via iCLOUD won't work because I have VISTA OS and I need at least Windows 7 or 8.

    Hi ladextr,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  To sync your music to your iPad, first put your music in iTunes as described here:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
Once that's done, you can sync the music to your iPad by following this article:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph12313
    Cheers,

  • Using "Windows98" DownLoads On An Apple Macintosh SE/30 Computer

I've downloaded tons -- 150MBs -- of absolutely classic "System 6" software for my APPLE "Macintosh SE/30" computer using "Windows98".
    My question ....
Will I be able to use what's been downloaded on a floppy simply by sliding it into my APPLE "Macintosh SE/30" computer & it'll work?
Or will something hafta be done to the software first before it'll work 'cause it was downloaded using "Windows98" ?
    Thanks In Advance!

    >".sit/.hqx/.bin "those suffixes are all indicators of files that are still stuffed. The will not execute until they can be unstuffed on the Mac. If you unstuff on the PC, vital information will be discarded.
Can you copy the files to your Mac? Or are the diskettes still not recognized correctly?
If the diskettes are still not recognized, this article discusses ACCESSING WINDOWS DATA in a section with that name.
When reading, keep in mind that the drive they call "SuperDrive" is a diskette drive that can read 720K, 800K, and 1.4 MB Mac and PC diskettes. So much time has gone by that they have re-used the name "SuperDrive" today to mean a CD-RW/ DVD-RW drive.

If that software is already on your Mac, it may have been moved to the Extensions(disabled) or Control Panels(disabled) folder in the System Folder, either manually or with Extensions Manager. If the software is not present on your Mac, you may have to download it.

  • Syncing Apple Lossless Files As Something Else

    Hi all,
I am a proud new iPod Touch owner with 60+GB of lossless music in my itunes library, automatically organised, in ALAC (Apple Lossless) format. As my new iPod only holds 8GB, I would like to sync (as much as possible of) my music to the ipod in 192 or 256kbps, whilst keeping the lossless files as well for playing off my computer. Apart from having two computers with two identical yet distinct libraries, one Lossless and the other not, is this at all possible?
    Thanks,
    Ross

On-the-fly conversion is only available on the iPod shuffle. The iPod shuffle (probably because of it's limited capacity) has the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". This option is not available for any other model iPod. For the larger iPods the files have to be converted in iTunes first or indeed have to have been imported in a compressed format prior to transfer. so if you want to keep your files in lossless format you would need to make a separate copy of those files in another compressed format if you want to sync those to your iPod. You could use either a separate library to sync the iPod or sync it from a distinct playlist of compressed songs within your existing library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    iPod - Syncing Music
