Copy clips in iMovie

I'm trying to copy a clip and put it into a new event but want to keep the original clip in the original event. This is not working no matter what I do. I try clicking and holding option, I tried to copy and then paste it. Nothing is working. Would appreciate some help in this matter.

Plug in FireWire cable and turn on power to camcorder. (Use charger to maintain battery power.)
Launch iMovie and select movie project.
Now, the tricky parts:
First, on the Optura 600...
1. Select "Play"
2. Press "Rec/Pause"
3. Press forward button (with right arrowhead and double vertical lines)
Now the camcorder is ready to receive the digital video signal via firewire.
On the iMovie side...
1. In the Share menu, select "Video Camera" At the bottom of the dialog it should show the Optura 600 as connected.
2. Click "Share" button.
If it works you will see the footage on the camcorder screen as it is received and recorded.

Thanks but nothing happened - I right clicked to REVEAL IN FINDER and nothing happened - realize that the source should have shown but because I deleted it in iPhoto, that's apparently gone. Now there isn't a 'pointer' from iMovie to anywhere.

How to copy clip from iMovie to a cd or dvd

Hello. I copied an entire (short) video from a CD made on a pc (.wmv file) to iMovie by dragging it to the clip pane . then I split it to use only a small portion of the movie. I split it into 5 small clips and used transitions to connect. My result looks fine in previewing it. Now, can I copy this movie into an existing Power Point presentation in full quality but not Quicktime (I hav PP on iMac in my Microsoft Office for Mac program), so I can save it and use it on a Windows pc at work? (I tried saving in high quality Quicktime, but the subject video still goes into PP in quicktime format with reduced-quality video that does not look nearly as good as the original or the clips I previewed in iMovie). thanks. Export/Share the clips out as Full Quality DV Quicktime movies. There should be NO compression done and no quality loss. Then see if your Power Point will take those.

How do I copy a clip in iMovie 09 into iMovie HD

I have a movie clip in iMovie 09 that is also appropriate to be included in a movie that was made in iMovieHD. I am unable to import this clip. I am unable to export this clip. Can anyone help?

Importing clips from iMovie project (they keep ending up in the trash)

I have never tried to import other clips from another iMovie project before and I just tried it yesterday. This is what I did:
-I went into the other project and clicked on each individual clip from that project that I wanted (one at a time).
-I copied that clip and then saved it to the desktop
-From there I copied those clips to my external drive (which holds the new project that I am working on
-I then opened up the new project in iMovie
-I went to File<Import
-I selected the clips that I had copied over to the external drive
-I imported them
-They all showed up fine, they played fine and I was able to edit them and put them into the time line as well
The problem I face though is after I save the project and exit, the next time I open the project, each of those clips are missing and have been placed in the trash
What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like something may be preventing iMovie from properly saving the project on the external drive. The drive format may be wrong, or third-party software might be causing conflicts. More here:

Another possibility is that you are opening the wrong project file saved inside the iMovie 5 project. If your project was originally an iMovie 4 project converted to iMovie 5 that's an easy mistake to make. More here:

Note that the copy/export/import routine you used can be simplified enormously. iMovie 5 lets us Copy and Paste clips much more simply. To copy clips from Project A to Project B, open Project A, select all the clips you want copied to Project B, choose Edit > Copy, open Project B, move the playhead where you want to place the clips, and Paste. iMovie will import all the files that support those clips from Project A to Project B. Note that it imports the entire file for the clip, not just the clip itself. That's so the clip inherits all the non-destructive editing features it had in Project A.
To avoid Project B becoming unnecessarily large, it's important to Copy and Paste all the clips you want together. If you copy two clips at the same time that share the same file iMovie imports their source file just one time. But if you Copy and Paste two clips that share the same source file separately, iMovie imports the same file twice.

Importing clips to imovie hd from external hard drive

Ok it all started when i wanted to put an hour long clip into imovie HD. I had 54gb left on my computer and just before it finished it told me i did not have enough space on my startup disk.
so read forums and people said delete so i took other clips which i still want to edit, put them on to an external HD. that freed up a good 60gb more, so now with 115gb, it still did not work. if you can help that would be sweet
Secondary and MORE importantly, i went to transfer my clips from my external hard drive to Imovie HD. It came up with imovie could not parse it - 36. any ideas.
so then what i tried to do is to transfer it back to my internal hard drive, it came up with something about the movie having an atom. then it came up with Movie is not a movie file
now it comes up with clip in use. i am confused has ****
the other thing is it is not all my clips that are giving trouble but a lot are.
PLEASE it is massive project that has to be finished and burned by friday

It just so happens the one time i dont have 2 copied of my work is the time is messes up
I phoned Apple, they believe it is my codecs but some of my clip and have been pixailized and damaged now. does anyone have a sweet program that can convert my clips

Keynote and clip from Imovie HD

When i copy a clip from Imovie in Keynote, it is the original clip that is copied (and not the clip i elagued).
Is everybody knows how to copy a clip from imovie to keynote that is not an original clip?

Can I copy clips from one project to another? The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event. I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events. I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills. ABout 50 of them, When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them. So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it. (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff). Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else. Do you know a way around this?

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

Deleting iphoto clips in imovie

In Imovie, I can see and edit my iphoto videos. If i delete these iphoto clips within imove, are they deleted completely or do they remain in iphoto? Thanks so much for your help.

That will explain why, when I have copied an iphoto clip (within imovie) to an imovie event and then deleted the iphoto clip (within imovie), suddenly my hard drive filled up to capacity. So it sounds like I need to go to iphoto and delete that clip, in order to save space. This leads me to 2 further questions:
1 - If i have copied the iphoto clip into an imovie event, will it remain in my imovie event if I delete it from iphoto? I don't want to lose these clips, I just want to tidy up my video clips and would rather keep them in imovie events than iphoto, if thats possible.
2 - If I delete the clip from iphoto but have used some bits of it in an imovie project - will it delete only the unused sections of that clip and where will it store the used clips if I delete the source clip in iphoto?

Can not import video clips into iMovie from Photos

I have some clips that I copied from my GoPro to my iPad via the Apple Camera Connection Kit. When I open iMovie there are icons for the clips but iMovie will not import them. The format is H.264. Is there a way of tricking iMovie?

Here is the problem, Im making a movie, I took all the video on my Kodak V610 Camera. I have the clips in .mov format. The clips are stored on an external disk in my iPhoto library.
Your digital camera probably uses MPEG-4 video (compatible with iMovie '08 in combination with µ-Law 2:1 compressed audio (which is not iMovie '08 compatible). While using the MPEG Streamclip MPEG-4 conversion will work, the prefered methof would be to use the QT "Movie to MPEG-4" option in QT Pro (quicker if you have it) or GarageBand (via the "Expert Settings option) to "pass through" you video while converting the audio to AAC (MPEG-4 audio). A mono setting of 64 Kbps with a 44.1 KHz sampling rate is a bit of "overkill" with respect to the original audio but will be quality compatible with what iMovie uses for its output presets.

no - because, the concept of iMovie makes the project, the clips, the audio, the transitions, all that into ONE monolith piece, a package indeed...
if you, e.g., take just one clip incidently out of this package, the whole package, the project is 100%damaged&lost..
yes - there are many apps, claiming to store & handle all kind of media, stills and video... search at versiontracker, macupdate etc for "catalog", "media" or "clips"... they are - some - as convenient as iPhoto/iTunes, but a) you need the storage space (1h dv=~12GB) and b) to make iMovie functional, you need to import/copy them into it....-
summary:
have a look at Apple's Final Cut Express; it has a different concept, it allows you to create "bins" of clips and allows the use of a single clip many times in different projects...
a pro attitude needs a pro investment... ;-))

Copying Clips to Tape

I want to copy some clips in iMovie 6 to my camcorder (Canon Optura 600) which supports both FireWire and USB.
Seems easy. But when I play a clip in iMovie my camcorder doesn't see it as input...it still records from the camcorder lens and microphone.
Any suggestions? This can't be hard.

Preview disabled, importing clips from imovie

I just got a Canon Optura 60 video camera.
I'm in a hurry to get the clips into final cut and the log and capture procedure is time consuming and confusing.
plus my preview is disabled in the log and capture window and I just read a long thread about this problem.
it seems to conclude that the solution is to deinstall quicktime 7 reinstall quicktime 6, which I can't do with 10.4.
I already figured out how to easily get the clips out of the camera and into iMovie, but I want to edit in Final Cut. I have a LaCie 250gig hard drive for media storage.
Is there an easy way to import the clips from iMovie to final cut pro HD 4.5? thanks

so far, by logging in the clip I even got preview to work, and the final cut is moving the clip around in the camera. but I still haven't managed to actually capture the clip. when I try capture now, it justs waits for time code.
when I log in the clip and click on capture clip, the clip appears in the preview window, and then I get an error message: "unable to locate a specified timecode. you may have specified a time code with insufficient room for a pre/post roll operation"
so how do I enter the time code?
or could it be that I did not enter time and date on video camera?
If anyone knows of a step by step book for idiots that says 1, plug in firewire, 2 go to log and capture, and so on, I would happily buy it.
