Copy/Clone Discover Weekly playlist to your playlists for longterm listening.

Spotify's new Discover Weekly playlists are pretty great. What would make them better would be the ablilty to copy/clone them to your playlists for longterm listening since they get replaced every week.

  • [All Platforms] Add ability to Remove Discover Weekly playlist

    Hey there.
The new feature on Spotify, discover weekly. It updates weekly snd suggests some music based on user listeninngs. But problem is, I listen only hands up music and it's boring to get suggestions from heavy metal and some commercial music... It is really useless. Only 10% of suggestions I can actualy listen. The more boring stuff is that this playlist is taking valuable space on my Android/Windows app where sidebar is already fullfilled with no needed junk.
I can't remove this playlist curated by Spotify. Add option to do so!!
    Thanks.

  • Mix of the week Playlist

Hi, today i found out that my playlist "mix of the week" was overwritten by a new version.  How can i geht the songs from last week back ??? GreetzChristoph

I doubt that you're able to get them back. The "Playlist of the Week" is overwritten every week with a new playlist -> see this thread: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Mac/Discover-Weekly-Playlist-History/td-p/1177584

The discover weekly feature is excellent, however I was disappointed yesterday to notice that last weeks playlist had disappeared. It would be great to be able to view previous discover weekly playlists.  Thanks

  • Migration assistant vs carbon copy cloner

Ok, so here's my problem. I've got an iMac and an iBook. What I want to do is to clone the iMac onto the iBook. My problem is that the iMac has about 100GB worth of data on it while the hard drive capacity on the iBook is only 75MB.
Here's what I've done. I put the iBook into target mode and completely wiped out it's hard drive by overwriting zeros using disk utility. My plan was to then use carbon copy cloner (maybe migration assistant would be better for this) to do a brain transplant from the iMac to the iBook. It got part way through and stopped because there wasn't enough available space on the iBook.
At this point it seems to me as if using Migration Assistant is completely out becasue from what I can tell the iMac needs to have the system on it which it now doesn't.
I would love to be able to clone the iMac to the iBook EXCEPTING say my iPhoto library and/or my documents folder. Then I could copy over only what I wanted yet I'd have both computers set up exactly the same.
Any ideas of how to do this given where I'm now at?
    Thanks!

CCC only allows you to deselect root-level files and directories. The root-level is what you see in the Finder window that pops up when you double-click on your boot disk's icon. To do what you want to do; i.e., not copy your photos and documents folder, you have to move them to the root-level. That way, they'll show up in CCC's list of items to copy and you can remove them from the list.
What you're trying to do might be problematic because cloning the iMac stuff to the iBook might not include items specific to the iBook. See http://forums.bombich.com/viewtopic.php?t=3233 for details about cloning between different machines.

  • Discover Weekly - Post your feedback here

    Hello community. Spotify here.
Here's all the info you need to know about Discover Weekly. It's a pretty awesome feature that we love. We hope you will too:
Its a 30 song playlist that is automatically added to your account and updated every Monday.
The 30 songs are based on your listening history and the listening history of others with similar tastes to you.
The rollout starts today and is scheduled to finish in the coming weeks.
Only folks who have been active in the last 30 days will get it. When they return and play some music, they’ll get it the following Monday.
Only available after you’ve been with Spotify for two weeks.
Its added directly to Your Music/Your Library. If we were overzealous here, you have the option to unfollow it.
The playlist defaults to private. You can set it to public if you'd like.
If you accidentally unfollow it, you can find it again in Browse or Discover.
Any other questions let us know. Feel free to post any feedback here.
    Thanks!

The rollout started yesterday with 20% in mainly English speaking markets. It is scheduled to finish rolling out within a couple of weeks but we may temporarily pause the rollout if we discover any issues. Keep checking!
Yes it will be available in Canada, Oh Canada :)

I have an iPhone 4 running the latest iOS. I created playlists for my music under the Music app on my iPhone. How do I transfer/copy these playlists to iTunes on my MacBook? Also, is there any way to make the Music app's settings the default, to override what is on iTunes on my laptop?

  • [All Platforms][Discover] Playlists for the atmosphere

Atmosphere ( Atmos ) PlaylistsAnd I don't mean the gases around the planet. I mean the "pervading tone or mood of a place, situation, or work of art" - so states Oxford. - Spotify is set-up for the best possible personal music expereience, and they've nailed it. The "Genres and Moods" section is a perfect  feature and is awesome for finding new music and artists while "Hanging Out and Relaxing", having a "Productive morning", or feeling "All Out 90's". Sometimes you'll stumble across a playlist that would be good to use with a group of people - but they are designed to put yourself in the mood or interact with what you are doing at that moment.- The system is built for headphones basically, personal computer, or a nice bluetooth speaker system ( Sound Sticks name drop ). Either the headphones or speaker system- the group is either just you or maybe one other person- possible two or three more. With Atmosphere playlists you would be able to select the situation you are in or creating. Examples below.  :Playing Cards ( this is where the Playlist cover would be important and fun to create - the cover art would have to depict exactly the "atmosphere" you are in at that moment ). My suggestion for the Album Art would be a bunch of friends sitting around a table playing Cards Against Humanity. We all know Cards, 6-10 friends sitting around a table drinking, having fun, laughing and just enjoying the moment. All the attention is on the game but music should be in the background- and yes you can browse for a playlist but this is the point of the idea. Instant, tested, and ready to go. The research and development on this playlist would be a lot of fun as well- "alright everyone, for the next 5 Friday nights we have to sit, play cards, and pick songs that fit the moment". First song = Perspective by Until the Ribbon Breaks. or Everlasting Light by the Black Keys. :Porch Party. Album art of a Screened in Porch with pong set-up ( if that is allowed- not sure. PC check ). Group of 2 on 2 playing, 4-5 sitting around a table chatting - maybe a grill outside with people cooking. Need roughly 100 songs to be played on random to suit the moment. This would be cool if you can narrow down the Atmosphere by selecting how many people are in attendance. A playlist for 10 people partying should be very different than a playlist for a party of 50 people.- Spotify does have the "Start Radio" feature, which is not marketed enough ( competition with Pandora ). And this feature is great, but you select a country singer with a awesome song and start the radio off that singer or the song, you will eventually get songs that do not fit the moment.  :Say at work, 4-5 different people working in one area or that could be everyone in the whole company- it is 4-5 different views of music. Each person could and most likely likes their own genre and songs. And yes there are "At Work" playlists, but you have to stumble across them going through the different genres and moods. Then you have to find a playlists that you think everyone will like, and hope that no embarassing songs come on. Three examples- but could be endless. I had 8tracks for a while ( still have it but have Spotify premium so naturally doesn't get opened anymore ). But you could select a different Mood and then a different Genre and it would produce playlists based off the two random selections- don't mean to copy that process, that is more of the music genome type deal. But be able to select group size, maybe group age (average), and atmoshere and playlist will generate from those selections. Just a thought, but taken the thinking out of the selection will make it popular. Possible Features:Group Bluetooth for same playlists- if you happen to have more than one set of blue-tooth headphones in the room. Silent Disco's are a perfect example.Hold Music Playlist - being on hold is an atmosphere, not typically a pleasant one but one none the less. Each business that puts people on hold on a constant basis- good music for those people ( and safe foreveryone, no swears are obscene lyrics ) would be awesome. I think it would be cool- seeing if it is a shared idea. I have Spotify on everyday, and since the only one with premium at my current job ( trying to recruit )- my Spotify gets played at work. I saw Spotify Corporate was also an idea, as it should be- I will go back and Kudo's that idea. But this idea could work for that feature as well- or the basis of it.

  • Great finds from Discover Weekly

Hi Sophiemay, You can create a new playlist. Name it: My weekly disoveries. Then copy/paste the songs from the weekly playlist discover into there. That's it.

As you may have heard Discover Weekly is rolling out to users this week.
This playlist updates every Monday and is a weekly selection of new discoveries and deeper cuts based on your evolving music taste.
Users are already making great music discoveries through the playlist--and you can share your best finds with the Community here. Recently I found Sheep, Dog & Wolf (Lil' Chief Records) through Discover Weekly. Daniel McBride makes experiemental pop with layered vocals that I recommend for fans of Sufjan and #1 Dads.

I have an iMac 2013 running OSX 10.9.4. I want to use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup user files to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMack Hard drive.
So, say I make the backup today, delete iphoto libraries from my iMac, and then backup my iMac in a week. What happens to the iphoto libraries that are on the external backup drive now that I am backing up the iMac where they no longer exist?
I will have them backed up to a separate second external drive as well.
I'm just very cautious about removing them from the hard drive.
Thanks for helping and understanding my crazy caution!

I'd like to store my Aperture /IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive.
That is fine and recommended.. use the fastest disk you can afford.. ie Thunderbolt>USB3>FW800>USB2.
In addition, I'd like to partition the external hard drive so that Time Machine can use it to both back up my IMac and the external library drives.
Let me be clear.. you want to partition the one disk.. use it for TM and move your files to the external disk.. and then backup to the same disk.. You can do it.. but that is not a backup.. that is an experiment in how long you can get away with running files and backups on the same disk before you lose everything.. like Russian Roulette.. pull the trigger enough times and laws of probability will do you in.
You must have backups on a different disk .. otherwise it is pointless.
Can I set up a RAID 5 format for redundancy?
No.. you can buy special USB and Thunderbolt external drives that support RAID..
BUT that is still not a backup.. let me show why.. you make a silly move and corrupt your file in aperture.. it is not that rare.
Raid will corrupt all copies of the files.. it is replicated across all disks.
Delete a photo it is deleted across all disks.. you have no recovery.
Alway, always consider RAID system one disk.. backup onto another disk.. and if the photos or movies are at all important to you.. ie your family .. make another copy and store in a relatives house.. There is no such thing as too much redundancy.

  • How do I create separate playlists for two ipods/one library and them sync them?

I have an older classic ipod, my daughter has an older nano.  I got new laptop and have managed to sync my ipod and ipad with success, as well as move my library from old pc to new laptop.  Now I am trying to update and sync my daughter's ipod.  It says that it is synced but nothing changes.  I believe I had set up two different libraries on the old pc, and so certain cds had been copied into her library.  I can't find them in the earlier mentioned transfered library.  That's not a big deal, as I can just use those cds to add them back in later (more work though).  I've read older community posts on my issue, but any article links on how-to are too old, I guess.  I like the idea of using just one library and creating playlists for each ipod to sync to, but cannot figure out how to do this.  Also, do I need to restore my daughter's ipod to get the ball rolling?  She's taken a couple of videos she likes and I'm not sure I want to lose it in the restore.  Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hey puckaluck8,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

You mentioned syncing separate playlists, which is definitely a good method. The other option you may want to consider is called "Manually Syncing", which you can read about here:

  • For the Pro's: Experience with Carbon Copy Cloner

    Hi everybody,
I am a professional musicproducer. I use my MAC (G5, 2,7MHz DP 4GB RAM) every day many hours as my main working tool. So I cannot afford a loss of my system disc. If the disc fails some day, I do have to have a copy of it, that I can connect and go on working immediatedly. CCC is the perfect tool and i thank Mike Bombich for this efforts.
    My tests were as follows:
After having cloned the system disc to a firewire drive successfully, I checked that I can boot from that drive, as long as the system disc is still in its place, connected and working.
Then I tried the worst case scenario: I plugged my system disc off (bus- and powerplugs pulled out), simulating a harddisc crash with loss of the complete drive, and looked what happens. You have to press the "Option" key during power up of your MAC, and the system will search and show the available drives. I marked the cloned system and started. It worked! Everything looked the same as with a start from the internal drive.
My question was: what exactly works and what not? Here is my report (I checked only LOGIC PRO 7.1.1):
I can start the programm, I can open all of the songs - with some restrictions. A logic song has a lot of links to a lot of audio files. In my case, EXS instruments and EXS samples are on the internal drive, recorded audio is on a seperat drive. Logic of course can not find those on the (no more existing) internal drive any more, so I am asked to perform a search. But after all, the song is complete and working. The entries in the Project Manager database, that show the dependencies of instruments, songs and audiofiles, point to the internal drive - so the Project Manager is of no use anymore. But in practice, this is a minor problem.
Now to my next question, concerning authorisations: I tried the "Waves" plug-ins: Yes, they work! And I tried the plug-ins of UAD, (they use a PCI DSP card): they work too! Only with the TC-Electronic plug-ins I was not successful, i got an "Error -1" - whatever that means. (I forgot to check "Autotune")
All told, I am very happy with the Copy Cloner! It is "the" application for my purpose! Thanks again to Mike and Andreas!
    Thomas

My own tests were less than satisfying: third-party plugs (in my case, NI) often don't like you messing with the disk they're installed on.
After I restored to a clone, the B4 plugs, for me, refused to work. They demanded a reinstall (which, as all NI users know, is a royal PITA).
In my case, having to reinstall a particular plugin was not the end of the world... after all, 45 minutes lost is better than rebuilding a system from scratch.
But the lesson remains: an "exact clone" of your disk is never a 100% guarantee of immediate uptime, as you too discovered.
