Hi i just converted to mac and want to find out how to copy movies to my itunes library from dvd,is there a tutorial anywhere ?

no it doesn't quicktime pro just lets you export and save files in .mov format
go onto the handbrake website and see what they have to offer but you will have problems find answers on forums like this for doing dvd ripping as it is against the law and the T&C's for bid things like that as not to brake any legal agreements etc

If you have a license for NERO Burning ROM, they have a program called RECODE2 which can convert DVD movies to iPod compatible video. If not there is a free program that works on 99% of DVDs. It is called Videora. You can download it from their website for free

This web site has a step by step procedure to convert the DVD. It assumes that you are trying to convert a copy protected Hollywood video, but this will work for your DVD too.

Watching a digital copy dvd with itunes

I downloaded a digial copy of a dvd to itunes, but it will not allow me to play the dvd. I entered the code and it looks like it downloaded correctly but there is "!" symbol in the far left column. How do I get the dvd to play now?

The iTunes Store doesn't sell DVDs. Video content sold by the iTunes Store can be back up to a DVD but not burned to a DVD that can be played on a regular DVD player.
There simply must be someone out there to help me with a method and means to get my music DVD onto my Ipod, as this is very important to me.

Sure, just use Handbrake to encode the DVD movie into a format that is playable on iTunes and on your iPad:

Once the encoding is complete, move the movie file from your desktop into iTunes and then sync your iPad. Presto, the movie is on your iPad!

To clarify - I have purchased a physical copy of a movie which came with another physical copy which contains the digital copy. The digital copy is on the DVD, all I need is just to transfer this file to my iPod Touch, for example, I'm not trying to download it from the store or repurchase it and it's not any gift code that I've received, the digital copy is on the disc. This is the first time ever that I've purchased something on a disc and I'm not allowed to access it because the disc hasn't been purchased within my country.
So again - I'm not attempting any purchase or download any purchased digital copy - it's on a DVD I own physically so... why is even the region of my Store relevant, the code I enter is (as I assume) just supposed to check if it's a legal genuine copy (which it is, as I've said - there are 6 discs in the pack: 3 movies on 3 Blu-rays and 3 DVD containing these digital copies of them). If I own it, I think that's proof enough that I have the right to use it. I just don't get it. I fully agree with you and understand your point if there was any purchase going on here, but it's not, it's just - I put a disc into my computer and I can't access it

Probably something to do with Apple/iTunes cross border copyright !
Only thing I think you can do is to try and appeal to Apple's better nature and explain what has happened, I would not hold your breath though.

Itunes won't play digital copy dvds

hey,
i just imported two digital copy dvd's that ship with some blu rays. so i entered the key, itunes copied the movie and afterwards it was in my movies library.
when i tried to play it, all i had was a black screen and no sound. the length of the movies was okay it was obviously playing, but no pic nor sound.
the file is in m4v format.
does anybody know how to fix this?

I recently bought UP by Disney Paxar with the digital copy. I just downloaded the digital copy but when I tried to play it itunes, there was no audio/video. The title screen will pop up along with the chapters, time, volume, etc. but there was just a grey screen playing nothing. I checked out these forums and found that there was a solution involving quicktime. The quicktime solution did not work so I kep on searching. There was a guy who said something about authorizing/deauthorizing the movie. I tried this out. I opened up itunes and ran the movie. Again, a blank grey screen appeard. I went up to the FILE navigation bar over at the top left hand corner of the screen and went to STORE over to the right. There I clicked on "deathorize computer". It asked me for my password and username, and i filled it out. After typing in my password, I tried playing the movie UP againg and it once againg asked me for my password t authorize my computer. After inserting my password the movie played and worked perfectly.

I just got a 80gb Ipod classic as an upgrade from a 4th gen nano and am trying to upload movies onto itunes for the first time, but cant. I've tried inserting the movie with itunes on like I do cds, nothing. Handbrake see http://handbrake.fr/ can convert such files to iTunes compatible format. However Handbrake by itself does not copy from protected commercial DVDs as doing so is illegal in many (but not all) countries.

(3) If you're talking about DVDs which are not copy protected and whose copyright holder gave you the licence to copy them, then you may use Disk Utility. Once copied, you can play the content using DVD Player.
For common DVD, i think hanbrake can meet your needs.

Since MacBooks aren't builded with superdrive, I don't want to always carry an external driver with me..
I have imported all my CDs in iTunes and I would do the same with DVDs. Most of recent DVD doesn't have copy protection, so there should be a way to import just like CDs.
By chance, did you find a way to to it ??

Hi, Why can't you import purchased DVD's into iTunes as you can with CD's, is it only because of Copywrite law? Obviously I realise that it is illegal to copy DVD's, and im not interested in that, but is it also illegal to import a DVD that I have purchased into iTunes so I could watch it on my iPhone for example?? I buy lots of Movies from the iTunes store, and its great that I can watch these on my iPhone as I travel alot and I dont always want to take my Macbook.
