Copy from illustrator, paste in photoshop. My image is now tiny and pixelated

My coworker and I just updated my photoshop CC yesterday and we are both having the same problem, so here is what happens:
I draw a vector image in illustrator, say its a square that is 1x1".  I copy it from illustrator, and go to open a new photoshop document. My preset is "clipboard" which means it should give me a 1x1" square that is the resolution that i have set (in my case it is usually set at 1200 DPI), but instead, it is now setting it to .6x.6 inches. Then when I have the document open and paste it in, it is pasting it at a very low resolution and a smaller canvas size than my image is.
If I dont use the clipboard preset and type in my own size, the resolution is fine when I paste my shape in. This works for shapes that are exact dimensions, but if I have a shape that is 2.2034x3.4565, its a little annoying to have to figure out that dimensions in illustrator then type it in when creating my photoshop document, epseically because I am doing this over and over throughout the day (creating bitmapped tiffs from vector illustrator shapes). Its also annoying to have to make it bigger then crop it down after I paste it in.
Before the update, the clipboard preset would size it exactly to the size of my shape I copied from illustrator and the resolution would be fine.
I am hoping it is something simple that I just need to check or uncheck, but I dont know where to start.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I have the same problem, but I found a workaround. It may be the same procedure Sarahjane_72 used. It adds two steps to the import: Copy the AI vector art, switch to PS, hit command-N, then, when the Paste dialogue box appears, *first* switch the box's units from pixels to whatever you use-centimeters, inches, picas. *Then* switch the scaling factor, e.g., 72dpi, to your preferred size, e.g., 300dpi, and the image should paste at the correct size. If you reverse the sequence and change the dpi first, it will not work, and the results will be unusable. I have no idea why it works one way and not the other, but switching first from pixels(a scaling factor) to an exact measurement in inches or centimeters seems to make all the difference. I've asked this question in other threads. Nobody has an answer, but I can tell you that this glitch survived a reformatting of my HD to get rid of a malware infection, followed by a re-install of the Adobe CC apps. So it seems to be due to some change in Photoshop. It's a big waste of time and I hope it wasn't consciously added as an "improvement".

  • Copy in illustrator, paste in photoshop as smart object problem

Hello. I am posting this here hoping that this message might be seen by someone more experienced who knows the answer. I have already tried to find a solution on my own, but to no avail, and I already lost a whole day just  with this problem.
I'm trying to build an example website, in anticipation for a real one that I want to build later on. I've done the wireframing and design (some of it) in illustrator, and now I want to copy to photoshop what I did in illustrator. I need to copy it as a smart object. The problem is that when I copy to photoshop, even though I choose the same dimensions, the file is not the same size. I have inserted some images to try to explain this more clear.
These are some settings in illustrator.
These are the dimensions in illustrator.
I select the whole content from illustrator, copy it
And after that I go to photoshop. I choose to create a new file
Even though when I created a new file in photoshop I selected the same dimensions that were in illustrator (960 px 1810px), the copied object does not match the canvas when I press enter.
I've searched online for people that had the same problem and I found something somewhat similar, but not helpful. The problem for them was that the anti-alias was not selected. However, as can be seen in the images, in my case the anti-alias is selected. The difference I noticed is that for them the W and H are both directly 100% when the object is pasted into photoshop, but for me this never happens, it is always something different. In the images here it is w 99.99% H 99.94%, and I created another layout before this that had even worse dimensions, something like W 97.68%  H 98%. I tried to fix this by putting manually 100% for each before I press enter, I even selected the "maintain aspect ration" icon (situated between W and H) but after that the image gets distorted.
I should also mention that I created different other smart objects with these files and they have the same problem - I selected the header for example, made it a smart object, and every time they are introduced to photoshop they are not W 100% H 100%  but are 9X % 9X% or something.
I also tried, when creating a new document in photoshop, to put instead of 72pixels/inch  - 300pixels/inch and its the same problem..
I also looked at the illustrator file so that there are no strokes on the edges of the document.
So, please, if there is someone who know how to fix this, to paste it so that I will have the same dimensions (W 100% H 100% automatically) so that the documents will match how it is normal, I would really apreciate the help. If there are any other details and setting one might need, I will look for them and mention them after that. Thank you!

    Use
file >> export > psd instead
Your resizing problem is coming from what is in your clipboard is not 960 x 1810, but larger (960.078 x 1810.048 as seen in your 3rd screenshot), and Photoshop is resizing trying to fit.
To fix this yourself, make a new document, your clipboard size will automaticallly be used if you make a new .psd doucment, then paste, than drag over to your 960 x 1810 .psd document and reposition.

  • Copy/Paste From Illustrator CS6 to Photoshop CS6 Issues

    Hi.
When copying a gradient filled shape from illustrator CS6 to photoshop CS6 an outline "halo" appears in the photoshop image although the shape has no outline to begin with. Is this a clipboard issue? Is it an anti-aliasing setting I can change? Apparently it isn't as noticeable when I drag the shape from illustrator to photoshop as it is when using the copy/paste command. But in both situations there seem to be issues in the border when gradient filled shapes touch other shapes. Please help if you know how.
    Thank you.

In Illustrator, try a blue shape underneath the butted-together rotated rectangles so seams do not become apparent when rasterized.

  • Text Copied from Illustrator CC 2014.1.0 Pastes as Image

I have seen similar discussions but none of the answers are of any help to me as of today.
    Background:
    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10
All my CC apps are up to date as of (11/1/14)
I am also up to date on all other software on my Mac
    My goal:
    Copy text from illustrator
Paste in Mail, TextEdit, and Notes as live editable text
    Results:
Text pastes as pdf or some type of an image depending on the app
    What it looks like:
I'll start from the beginning to avoid some questions later.
I open a new document in Illustrator.
These are the clipboard settings in my preferences.
Please Note - I have tried every combination of these settings. Turning them on and off one at a time and in combination does nothing to change the end product. I have turned them all off for this example, so as to not muddy the waters.
I type some text. I did not use a text box in this example. I just clicked on the page with the type tool and typed this line. There are no added attributes. You can see the character settings are the most basic. Again, please note - I have tried using a text box with the same result.
I use the type tool to highlight the text and then copy the text. I did not use the selection tool to select the text and copy.
This is what the clipboard looks like. Note that the contents is "text".
If I type text in PS (as an example) and copy to the clipboard it says "text". However, the text I copy out of PS I can paste anywhere as editable text.
If I type text in Notes and copy to the clipboard it says RTF. This text can also be pasted anywhere as editable text.
This leads me to believe that this is an Illustrator centric problem I am experiencing.
I click into the body of an email and paste. Looks fine, but when I try to click into the text (such as between the words "into" and "Mail") I cannot do it.
The line of words is highlighted and not editable at all.
If I right click on the image of the line of text and highlight "open attachment" you can see the clipboard pasted in as a .pdf and not editable text.
Interestingly, if I open a new note and try to paste the line of text, it also pastes as a .pdf but just the icon show up. Double clicking on the icon will open the text as a pdf in acrobat.
I did not have this issue until CC2014 updates were made. I would like to know if there is something that can be done or is this a bug in Illustrator. If it is a bug I don't want to spend time looking for workarounds. I will use another program when I know there will be a good deal of copy and paste work to be done. It's inconvenient for my older Illustrator files now have this issue when I open them in CC2014.
I know I can use the "paste and match style" but it's a force of habit to use the shortcut for paste. It's also a ridiculous change to Illustrator for the cut/paste to act this way. If it indeed was planned and not a bug, what would the benefit be?
If anyone has insight into the problem I am eager to know what's going on.
Finally, if there is no other way to fix this then can someone remind me how to customize the shortcut key combinations in Mail, Notes and TextEdit? I seem to remember (long ago) being able to customize certain shortcuts in some apps, but I never did it in anything but Adobe apps and even then it was CS5.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I ran into this issue today. I wanted to copy text into an email – however I pasted it it stayed uneditable.
The workaround was to open Text Edit and use the menu item 'paste and match style' (Command+Option+Shift+V) which pastes it as editable text. Then copy and paste that into mail.
    What a pain.
If I try 'paste and match style' directly in mail from illustrator it pastes as a flipping pdf.
I'm 10.10.2 yosemite and using Adobe CC

  • Why do vector objects copied from illustrator cc don't stay the same dimensions when pasted into pho

I think the problem started with the last updates. The normal work flow of copy and paste no longer functions correctly.
Photshop is changing the dimensions of vector artwork copied from illustrator, and pasted to photoshop.
If I start with a 6in x 6in vector shape in illustrator, and select copy, I should be able to go into photoshop, select file and then new,
and the document should automaticly get the dimensions from the clipboard. For some reason that 6in x 6in opens a 0.6in x 0.6in document.
Even if i manually change the document to 6in x 6in, anything else I copy from illustrator larger than 6in x 6in gets its dimensions changed to fit inside the document. I cant copy and paste a 10in x 2in vector into the 6in x 6in document without photoshop changing the dimensions
so it fits inside the document. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks.

illustrator has no dpi, that info wont copy to the clip board. There are setting within illustrator you can set so when you do raster something in illustrator, you can pick what dpi it will raster it to. But even if you raster something in illustrator, the dpi info doesn't copy to the clipboard.
The Photoshop: File, New, opens a window with the default set to pixels and 72ppi. When you have something stored on the clipboard, First you change the pixels to inches, cm, mm, anything but pixels, the dimensions stay locked in and Then you can change the ppi to anything you want.
The issue once the file is opened, and you try to copy and paste in something larger than the canvas still needs corrected. I have found a quick work around. After you paste it, before you select ok or hit enter, look at the info where it displays the % of the size of what's being placed.
It shows it at less than 100%, so change it to 100% (and constrain) and its back to original size.

  • How to copy Shape from illustrator CC to Photoshop CC?

I want to cope Shape from illustrator CC to Photoshop CC, however I found when I copy the Shape from illustrator and paste it in Photoshop, the style of Shape has changed. like the color changed to the foreground color of Photoshop , and the stroke also lost.
I want to keep the style as the same as in illustrator , what should I need to do ?

when you paste into photoshop, you should get some options as to what you want photoshop to import the shape as. if you select 'shape layer' you get the result you describe (a shape masking the foreground colour). choose one of the other options, depending on how you're going to use it.

  • CS4 Problem getting text from Illustrator over to Photoshop.

What a mess and why is  this so difficult. I finally figured out how to create my text on a curve and leave the letters going straight up and down. So I am trying to paste or drag and drop over to my bottle in Photoshop but what happens is that the text is in a clear area But then it creates a white box around that so I can't see my bottle. I have a lot of bottles I need to change the names on and no time to reshoot and knock them all out. Help please!!! I am going to try and attach images again but when I tried in  the Illustrator forum... the load button was greyed out.
Now on top of it, I am trying to create an image to attach... and it's doing even more crazy stuff. I created an image with the full bottle on L and what is supposed to be the full bottle on the R = only instead for some reason.... my text is coming over from Illustrator with an additional white box blocking most my bottle... then on top of it.... I tried to just type in what was going on and then if I rasterize the text OR I just try to save.... it created a new black box blocking the bottom 1/2... now what do I do??? This is really a mess!!!!

OK. The bottle on the L is what the bottle is supposed to look like.... minus the black box on the bottom. The L bottle is placed there in photoshop just to show what it is supposed to look like. Then the other layer had the bottle on the R or what is supposed to be the full bottle that I am trying to get my Eyelash Recovery text onto that one on that layer.
The bottle on the R is the problem. The white box is the entire area around the small area of the bottle being shown. Yes, trying to bring just the text Eyelash Recovery over from Illustrator = it created the white box all by itself. (Create Outlines did not help at all)
Note. I created the words Eyelash Recovery in text on a circle in Illustrator and then tried to drag and drop AND I tried to copy/paste into Illustrato = both ways. Both failed and created everything that is white around the R bottle that only shows the small area of the bottle. Anything around the small window of the bottle = which is actually a transparent area around the text Eyelash Recovery that allows the bottle on the L to show thru. So it came over as a small area of transparent window with the text in it (not centered as you can see) AND a white box around that window that I could not get rid of.
But then, for some reason, it then also wanted to created the black blox on bottom out of the clear blue = where that came from I do not know.
So I created the text Eyelash Recovery in Illustrator on the oval and placed it in position on the oval using the text on path tool. I then used the type > skew to get the text to bet straight up and down instead of curving into the oval. Then I tried 2 ways. 1 was to copy/paste into Photoshop on top of the bottle and the other was to drag and drop. It wanted to place it as pixels. So I allowed it to paste as pixels. And I allowed it to apply. In the layers palette however, it showed as a vector smart object = ???
Then I tried to rasterize that layer which now said it wanted to rasterize the smart object (which I did not 1. place OR 2. drag and drop as a smart object).
For some reason, instead of only coming over as the Eyelash Recovery text, it came over with just a small transparent window (which you can see on the L side above AND it created the rest as a white box around that that obliterated the rest of the image. Yes, I could move the Eyelash Recovery text and the transparent window around to show diff. parts of the bottle but only this amount as seen above. But I could not get rid of the white around the transparent window to see the bottle below in full and to place my Eyelash Recovery text.
Then on top of it... for some reason, when I rasterized that layer, it created the black box you see on the bottom of the image above and there was no way to get rid of either the white area OR the black box area at bottom
    A mess?? Yes.

  • When a pdf is taken from illustrator, white lines appears on images. How can be avoided it?

When a pdf is taken from illustrator, white lines appears on images. How can be avoided it?
I use illustrator cs5. It occures mostly on the cover pages of brochures which contains images, texts and some effects such as drop shadow etc.

    Thanks for your reply.
When smooth line art is turned off in Acrobat preferences, the lines disappears but the text becomes raserized and goes its smoothness. Not only that, we are not sure that everyone who is viewing the pdf has the same settings in their laptop or desktop.
Is there any other solution to remove these lines? I have added the screenshot of a part of the pdf.
Thanks once again for your support.

  • Why do colors slightly change when copying from Illustrator to Photoshop?

I want to copy a object from Illustrator and paste it into a Photoshop document with the same color mode and profile.
When I use the Eyedropper Tool on the pasted object in Photoshop the color seems to be slightly off.
Both the Illustrator and the Photoshop document have their Color Mode set to RGB
Both Applications are using synchronized color settings.
This also happens when the object is dragged or Placed. It does not happen when copying from Photoshop to Illustrator.
Could there be a problem with my color management settings? What actually happens to the color information, when it is copied from one application to another?
    Thanks for any help.

Why the heck are people still using these nonsensical hexadecimal HTML numbers?
Since some decades we got used to describe RGB values by decimal numbers 0...255.
Both your value sets are practically the same, but how they were converted from one
to the other, that requires an investigation, how Adobe workflows are distributed
    between California and Bangalore.

  • Copy from Illustrator CC and Paste to Powerpoint issues

    Hello,
How do you copy and paste a graphic from Illustrator CC to Powerpoint?
I know that sounds easy, and it should be...I used to be able to do this the standard way (ctrl+c in Illustrator, ctrl+v in Powerpoint), however now the result is just a load of code inside Powerpoint and no image. Any ideas? (other than exporting as pngs etc.)
I'm on the latest version Illustrator CC, Powerpoint 2011 for Mac, Mac OS 10.9.1
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Thank you for your reply.  I persevered and have figured out what to do.
I create a lot of icon type drawings in Illustrator CC (paths converted to outlines on transparent background) which I want to use in PowerPoint 2010 and be able to change the fill colour of the icon in ppt.  I unchecked the preferences>File handling & clipboard>Include SVG code checkbox in Illustrator but copy / paste special > as EMF did not result in editable graphic in ppt so then I exported to .EMF, Inserted EMF file in PowerPoint, Ungrouped and deleted the background. That worked.
    Kind regards

  • Pasting from Illustrator CS4 to Photoshop CS4 creates graphical glitches.

I purchased the demos of these products and one of the first things I tried was working between Illustrator and Photoshop, something I do regularly in CS3.
Right away I noticed a huge graphical glitch when pasting an object from illustrator into Photoshop. Most of the time the object, when pasted, is invisible, has no bounding box, and creates a black messy frame around the document's window. Usually some part of this distortion affects other windows outside of photoshop and my desktop.
Here's one example of what it looks like.

No idea where the yellow frame inside my document came from, also a glitch.
I'm using an iMac that's a couple years old: Nvidia 7800GT, 2.33 GHZ Intel Core Duo, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM. Could there be a problem with my computer?

  • Copy from quicktimepro, paste to imovie?

Why can't I copy from quicktime pro and paste into imovie?
I'm needing to copy very short segments from a MPEG4 Quicktime movie (which I can do fine), but when I switch over to iMovie, "paste" is greyed out. I was hoping to find a way to avoid the long wait with importing the entire movie.
Is there even a shortcut for this??

    Crossboard,
In QuickTime Pro, after you have copied the short clip, do a File>New Player and then Paste. This will create a new movie of just the clip. Save the clip and import into iMovie.

  • Is there a way of copying from illustrator CC (mac) into powerpoint 2013 (pc) while using parallels?

Keeping it as a vector, of course!

What do you mean, 'how should that work?'
Do you know what parallels is? It allows you to use both operating systems (windows and mac) at the same time while using a Mac.
When I previously had illustrator on my windows, I could copy whatever shape or i had designed, from Illustrator into powerpoint 2013 without a problem. It comes in as a .emf which I can then scale, change colours, change the points in the shape.... all things vectors can do. Now I have to export it from illustrator as an emf and them import it into powerpoint to get the functionality that I need. It just adds an extra step to the process, but since i do this a lot it would save me tons of time. This blog post made me think there may me a patch available.
