Copy G4 FCP files over to a G5

I have a partially edited FCP movie on a 450Mhz G4 that I need to transfer over to a G5. The G4 files were captured in Final Cut 1.2. Also, they are on a secondary internal hard drive, so I am unsuccessful in getting the G5 to read it as an external drive. (only recognizes the primary HD as external drive). When I copy/paste the files onto an external HD, the G5 (with FCP 5) does not recognize them as final cut files (I can only play them in Quicktime). Anyone with any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Does FCP 1.2 have a Media Manager (in the File menu)?
I can't remember if it did or not. Use it to copy your project and put everything in the same folder, then it should work.
What version of FCP is on the G5?

  • Time machine copied my old files over new ones.

Sometimes the Macbook Pro would't load the desktop. Other times it won't load the password window. The backup drive booted up. I ran Norton anti-virus but found nothing.
The disc utility found the disc OK. But repairing permissions won't run. DiskWarrior gave the dreaded error 9972, which means any I one of 10 things could be wrong.
I noticed the Chrome icon had changed to blue, the color when Chrome first came out. Time machine had "updated" my files and apps back to 2009. What the ****. Have I lost all my work since I last backed up my disc in 2009? I had DiskWarrior rebuild the directory. But the disc still won't boot.
What caused time machine to load the backup over the new files?

Huh? What do you mean? Time Machine backups are not bootable.
I ran Norton anti-virus but found nothing.
That's well-known to wreak havoc on OSX. It may well be the cause of your problems. Uninstall it immediately. You may need help to do that, as it's also notoriously hard to get rid of all the bits it leaves behind.
Search this forum for Norton and you'll see what I mean, and find a link to an uninstaller.

    You haven't backed-up since 2009?
I had DiskWarrior rebuild the directory. But the disc still won't boot.
Do you mean your Mac won't boot from the internal HD?
What caused time machine to load the backup over the new files?
Exactly what did you do? Did you tell it to restore that 2009 backup? If that's what you told it to do, that's what it did.
    Please clarify, with details.

  • I have a windows vista pc and want to use migration assistant to copy files over. From what I understand, it will copy over my user profile and settings as well. Is there anyway to just copy files?

Hey everyone, I just bought a new macbook pro 13-inch (late 2011 model) and I want to use migration assistant to copy over my photos, iTunes library, documents, etc. I know this can be done wirelessly or by connecting the two computers by Ethernet cable (windows vista pc --> macbook pro). Which is faster?
I also have heard that using migration assistant copies over the user file as well and makes it the new one on the mac. I would only like to copy over files, not user settings. How do I do this?
    Thanks!
P.S. I'm assuming that when my iTunes library is copied, the mp3 files are copied too. Could someone please confirm this?

  • HT1364 help I just completed this task to free up my hard disc and be able to upgrade my iTunes but when I re-opened iTunes it is a blank new account! When I copied the iTunes file to the recycle bin it made me effectively empty as I copied over as it was

    Hey can someone help???
I just completed this task (support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my music to an external HD to free up my PC hard disc and all went well until I re-opened iTunes and it is a blank new account!
I also don't can't access anything from the recycle bin as when I copied the iTunes file to the recycle bin it said it was too large to copy over so made me effectively empty as I copied over as it was so big.
Any help gratefully recieved or where I can get some, I am going round in circles. I also don't know which itunes operating system I have, it is around 3 years old.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

  • HELP! - Error 1309 - Can't copy file over 10gig to External firewire drive.

I know this is more of a hardware issue but I know that only other final cut users would be copying single files over 10gigs.
I have a G5 that I use for video production. Video Files can be large and to back them up I got an external hard drive ( Maxtor 1-touch 200gig) When I try to copy a file on to it that is 10gigs it give me a 1309 error. I have found that other people have had trouble copying files over 2gigs over to an external firewire drive. But I haven't found any answers. Can anyone offer any advice on how to solve this?
    Thanks

If you don't want to format it for the mac, you are limited to file sizes under 2gb.
Another alternative is to hook a firewire drive to your Mac and then share it with your windows machines (the program SHAREPOINTS is useful for this).
The drive can then be formatted Mac OS Extended and, once shared, the PCs can access all files without size limitations.
    good luck.

  • CF9 CPU at 100%. Moved to new CF11 server and copied files over and it's still at 100% CPU almost immediately on new server

Our web server is stuck at 100% CPU.  Three days ago we were on CF9 and started running into this problem until the server crashed and wasn't salvageable.  Luckily we had a fresh Windows 2008 Server R2 ready to go with a fresh copy of CF11 on it.  I copied all the website files over and we were back up and running.  A day later the CPU is back to 100% on the new CF11 Windows 2008R2 server.  I also updated CF11 to the latest update 3 that was just released.
If I turn off the CF service the CPU usage goes back to normal.  If I turn CF back on, the CPU goes back to 100% within like 5 seconds.  So it doesn't seem like some slow running page or anything that eventually eats up all the memory or whatever.  I'm not an expert at looking at the logs, but I don't see anything too out of the ordinary.  The one thing that looks strange to me is I see this line over and over.
    Dec 12, 2014 11:28:41 AM Information [ajp-bio-8014-exec-59] - Starting HTTP request {URL='http://zzen1wbudopwg.nchyt.com/encfm/en0024-ssj5iway6wvg/cbeim94a1s2kebu.php?do=194', method='get'}
That line makes me think we got hacked somehow, but it's hard to know.
I did up my JVM heap size and max size to 1024MB.  We have 4GB of memory.  And i changed teh JVM arguments to what's below based on a forum post.  Nothing seems to help.
    -server -XX:PermSize=192m -XX:MaxPermSize=192m -XX:+UseParallelGC -Xbatch -Dcoldfusion.home={application.home} -Dorg.eclipse.jetty.util.log.class=org.eclipse.jetty.util.log.JavaUtilLog -Duser.language=en -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home} -Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/lib -Dorg.apache.coyote.USE_CUSTOM_STATUS_MSG_IN_HEADER=true -Dcoldfusion.jsafe.defaultalgo=FIPS186Random
Any additional ideas on how to debug this or what to look at?  Thanks!

Thanks Charlie for your insight.  I searched everywhere to find a cfhttp request that was causing the issue, but couldn't find it.  I did find some unusual files that were loaded though that I know we didn't put there.  I did a search and found this link that shows the code.  Coldfusion CFIDE bitcoin mining exploit – PHP involved… | code-complete.com and that you mention in your article too.  I don't see any of the executables running or files that were mentioned though.  I found that code in 8 different spots though and removed them.  Maybe our old server had the executables and hacked files on them.  Hard to know as it won't boot up anymore!
I think I did possibly isolate the HTTP request {URL='http://zzen1wbudopwg.nchyt.com/encfm/en0024-ssj5iway6wvg/cbeim94a1s2kebu.php?do=218', method='get'} in the http.log file to a certain site in IIS though.  And it wasn't our main site.  I turn off this website in IIS and it appears the weird request goes away.  I turn the site back on and it starts to re-appear.  It doesn't always load constantly so it's a little hard to tell.  This site is pretty small.  I went through each file on the site and did find one file that did appear to be hacked.  It wasn't coldfusion code though.  Just some html links.  I removed it.  That's all I could find.  No cfhttp calls or anything else.
We re-installed Coldfusion 11 on Friday as well and upgraded to Update 3.  It doesn't stay locked at 100% as much right now, but it being over the weekend we don't get much traffic.  Monday will be the real test.  I think I will leave that smaller site turned off for now and see how things perform.  I'm doing a full virus scan for the heck of it overnight too.  Don't really expect it to find anything though. I also turned on advanced logging in IIS 7.5 and don't see anything out of the ordinary.  I made sure client variables weren't in the registry either.
Here's a part of the http.log file when I turn the IIS site on.  I turn the site off and it stops popping up in the logs.

  • Cannot Copy Files over a network

I've had a new hard drive installed in iMac by Apple, and Apple re-installed the OS, which is running 10.6.7 (all current software updates are installed). The iMac is part of a network connecting to a OS X Server 10.4.10
All of the Network Drives have been connected, the user can copy documents under 1MB to and from the server fine. However if we try to copy files over 1MB the first file will copy fine, but then no more files can be copied to the server from this machine, regardless of the size.
If i use another Mac, with the same user credentials I can copy files of any size without any issues. I have tried connecting to the Network using both the Ethernet port and Airport but I experience the same issue regardless.
If I reboot the iMac I can copy a file over 1MB again and then the symptoms re-present themselves. I have tried creating a users, new network drives, folders etc. I can connect using any user, to any of the new folders from any other machine on the network but not from this one.
When the copying fails Finder just hangs with
Copying "" to "ShareName" rather than having the name of the file, I believe this may be where the error lies.
I have also tried running the App Maintenance from Titanium Software, after running this i can copy files over the network fine, but after I have copied 10 or so files, the situation goes back to not copying files correctly.

Also using the Maintenance app, that I mentioned clears the Caches, repairs permissions etc etc

  • Copy files over network and preserve original date modified/created

This problem originally cropped up when importing photos into iphoto. I copied all my pics across the network and stored them locally then imported them into iPhoto. Problem was, any pics that did not have EXIF data were sorted by iPhoto, by date created...which was the date they were copied to the Mac.
I got around that by trashing the iPhoto Library, then importing the photos over the network. The dates on the pics were correct on the Windows machine till the copy process changed them.
is there a way to copy across the network and keep all the file attributes as they are on the original..An archive type feature.
I had thought of RsyncX, but have not used that yet from within the Mac.
Is there a way from within Finder to copy and keep attributes? or a third party app?
    Neil

zip the folder with your pictures (control-click on it and choose "compress folder"), copy the zip files to the remote computer and unzip it there. this will preserve the modified and created dates.

  • Mac partition corrupted, how to copy files over to external...

I have a circa 2008 black macbook running OSX 10.6.4 and running bootcamp 3.1 with windows 7 and somehow my mac partition is corrupted beyond repair (according to disk utility in snow leopard install disk). Ican still boot into windows 7 and I can still access my files from the mac partition while in windows so my questions are:
    1. can I copy all my files to an external drive via windows (I tried just drag and drop but states I need certain permissions to do so). If so, how do I change permissions on the files or elevate my copying status so the alerts go away?
    2. If i can copy my files to an external, what files, if any, should I not copy over as to prevent the corrupted files from coming back up?
    3. If I wipe my mac partition and reinstall OSX, will there be any issues running boot camp? (will my windows 7 still boot)
    3. if there are no issues with the first three questions (assuming they are answered in my favor) can I copy the files back to my newly installed OSX partition without any issues?
Basically I need to know how I can save my files from being deleted when I reinstall OSX (and no I do not have time machine set up)

Set up a Mac OS X volume on your external drive and boot from there.
Maybe you need Alsoft Disk Warrior (MacIntouch: Hard Drives lately)
Install OS X - shrink a partition so you have 20-30GB.
Erasing the HFS+ should be safe.
Use SuperDuper to clone OS X in the future, along with using TimeMachine (different drives or partitions) which are bootable OS X. Or Carbon Copy Cloner.
OS X DVD Disk Utility: Restore can copy a partition to external, and attempt repair of your OS X partition.

  • Copy files over Network - sometimes message "insufficent access priv"

Hi have a MacBook Pro & a MacPro.
I copied big files wirelessly all the time.
I software updated to QuickTime 7.1.6 and now I have two issues.
    1) When I try to pull files over the network, I often get the message "insufficent priveleges". The file is in the middle of copying, so it starts the process just fine. I am logged in as a registered user. I can copy the files from the Mac Pro to the laptop.
    2) I used to be able to stream video over my wireless without a hitch (even on my old Powerbook g4). Now streaming video plays for a few a few minutes and locks up.
It seems the update did something bad. However QT video plays fine locally from my laptop harddrive.
Anybody with similar problems or know any solutions?

Thanks for the tip. I tried repairing permissions and lots of things were fixed on the laptop but the problems remain.

  • Does Time Machine Copy UNCHANGED files over and over??

Okay, it seems to me that whatever files I have selected for backup are copied by Time Machine EVERY SINGLE TIME it backs up my Mac, instead of just when I make changes to them. Is that correct? If so, that just seems to be a massive waste of space on the external hard drive, and is probably the reason my 1TB drive runs out of space so quickly.
For example, I don't need 50 copies of my iTunes Library. I just need ONE copy. Time Machine should back up the music files ONCE, and if I add more songs to iTunes, it should then detect it and backup JUST the new files. Same thing with a Word document or whatever...make ONE copy of the file and then if I ALTER the file, make a copy of the ALTERED FILE.
Am I making sense here or is this just wishful thinking? Is there a way to make these types of adjustments in settings that I am missing?
    Thanks!

no, that's wrong. that would indeed be a huge waste of space. TM only backs up afresh new and changed files since the last backup. everything else is *hard linked* to existing backup copies. read up on what a hard link is.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_link
that's why incremental backups take very little space and yet every single TM backup is a full and completely independent copy of your system at the backup time. and that's why you can have a lot of TM backups fit on your backup drive.
