Copy iphoto images to flash drive to pc

I scuba dive and download my pictures to my iBook. I like to edit them on my PC. How do I copy the jpegs to my flash drive to import to pc? I notice there are data folders and thumb folders. Can someone help?

Hi there,
The easiest and safest way is to open iPhoto select image > Share > Export Option... make a folder on your desktop and export to here, afterwards simply copy to flash drive. I do this everytime I need to go between PC and Mac...
I suggest you use the Flash Drive FIRST on the PC, it will automatically be formatted so you can use on both machines.

Your USB drive is formatted in NTFS, and OS X can't write on disks with NTFS. To fix this:
1. Use an app like Paragon NTFS.
2. Format the USB drive in another filesystem like "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", "MS-DOS (FAT)" or "exFAT" > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Make a backup of your files on the external disk.
After doing that, you will be able to copy your photos to the external disk. Note that you can also use the Export feature in iPhoto to get more export options

Export the photos via the iPhoto ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Format = Original to a folder one the Desktop. Then drag the folder onto the flash drive to copy. That will copy the original image files to the flash drive.

When I hit the export to harddrive or anything else, I get a message saying it is trying to locate and reconnect missing photos, goes into a search mode and displays the identifiers of the located images. When I try to follow the directions for reconnecting I get nowhere. Can you help?

Hi,
Unfortunately you can create only 1 set of recovery media.
Copying and burning the recovery USB to DVD and then using DVD to do system recovery will not work.
What you can do is back up all your data to an external drive. Do a Factory Reset with the Recovery USB to get back all the partitions including the recovery partition into the HDD.

Couple of things:
was able to use the iPhoto Export menu and export directly to an external flash drive. I was also able to select and drag the photos from iPhoto directly to the drive
Depending on the settings used that can yield exporting and dragging can produce very different results. This User Tip

and apparently the limit on the number of files is above anything I have done so far.
The limit is to the number of items on the Tope Level I of the drive. I can't recall it exactly but it's a multiple of 32, hence the trick is to put the image into a folder, that way there's only one item at the top level.

I am having trouble with a video. I have tried to copy it to a flash drive because it is too big to fit on a DVD, it says it is too large for the volumes format. Please advise.

I have done many DVD's for seniors for graduation so I am familier with Imovie. I have just finished a projec that is a combination of video, music and stills. I shared it through idvd. Now I can't burn it to a dvd because it is too large. It is too big even for a two sided disk. I have researched it and i find that blue ray would be big enough. Could the video be too big because of using too high a resolution? 480p is sufficient for a DVD. the thread at:

Apple does not support Blue ray - you have to use a thrid party application like Toast.
To transfer the video to a PC you need a FAT-formatted hard drive (or of course a sufficiently big memory stick).
You could also go via a network, via the cloud (eg Dropbox) or with 'Wetransfer" or similar.

In iLife iPhoto on your mac you select the the events in the source list and use "File > Export" to export the photos to your flash drive. Just select the flash drive in the file chooser dialogue that will open.

Copied images from flash drive and they are invisible. how do I make them visible

I have copied some image files (jpeg format) from a flash drive onto my imac. When I go to view the images they do not appear. When I try to copy them again, there is a message that I cannot modify invisible images. These images were originally downloaded to a windows-based computer and copied to the flash drive. Open Terminal in the Utilities folder. Enter at the prompt:
chflags nohidden
After the word "hidden" put a space and type in the path to and name of the file. For example, if they are on the Desktop: chflags nohidden ~/Desktop/name_of_file. Include the file's extension. Press RETURN. If all the files have the same extensions, then use chflags nohidden ~/Desktop/*.jpg or *.jpeg.

Problem importing photos to iPhoto Library from flash drive

When I try to import photos from flash drive into iPhoto library, they seem to import just fine. BUT if I close iPhoto and then return later, the photos I supposedly imported from the flash drive are not in the Library, and a screen prompt tells me the "source is not available". Photos import into Library from digital camera just fine. Why are the photos from my flash drive not staying in the Library? Kinda defeats the purpose of a Library if images won't stay in it. Please help!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

Image of Flash Drive

I want to store a copy of the contents of my flash drive (32Gb work back-up) on my Mac but dont want all the photos and files etc added to my list of documents and photos on my Macbook pro. How do I do this? I suppose I just want and image on my desktop.

Plug in the Flash drive. Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Highlight the flash drive on the left. Click the New Image button in the toolbar. Select a location for the image. Click Save.

IPhoto launching upon flash drive insert

A flash drive containing jpgs and pdfs makes iPhoto launch as it does when a camera is connected, ready to import. This is a new development, and I can't find a way to uncheck that feature in iPhoto prefs or CDs & DVDs system prefs.

I just did some experimentation with this because I wanted to make archives of my SD cards. I made a disk image and put some images in a folder called DCIM and it didn't appear in iPhoto immediatley. The proof of how this works is make a DOS disk image through disk utility with a Master Boot Record format, create a folder called DCIM and place an image inside that folder. If the disk is already mounted, unmount it by ejecting it. Next time you open the disk image, its like you plugged a camera in. If you need more details about how this works, your welcome to ask more questions.

to free some space i had put my iphoto library to an external drive 1.5TB.
But now i have to transfer that iphoto library to 4tb WD hard drive which i bought but its giving me error everytime i copy that folder
this is the error it is giving it to me now.

What format is the 1.5 T external hard drive? If should be OS X Extended (journaled) with ownershiop set to be ignored:
If it's formatted to some version of FAT that could be the problem.
You could try using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library on the 1.5 EHD and save the rebuilt copy on the 4 T drive which also should be formatted as described above.

I have a 210 gig iphoto library that I am trying to copy from an external hard drive with 440 gig of avaliable space. I am getting a message say it can't copy because there is not enough space. The math doesn't add up

Try the following:
1 - run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions.
2 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
3 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1.
4 - try dragging the library to your internal drive again.

It will run much faster on your computer's hard drive because flash drives are slow. You could instead put it on a portable hard drive in a USB enclosure.
