Copy iPhotos to Disk for use by a "windows" user

Hello. How do I copy photos I have stored in iphoto to a disk to be seen on a "windows" computer. Not computer savvy so if someone could walk me through the steps I would very much appreciate it. I have been unsuccessful in all of my attempts to follow the iphoto guidance so if someone could explain the approach in plain English I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Select the pics in the iPhoto Window
Go File -> Export and export them to a Folder on the desktop
Burn that to CD using the Finder's Burn command (File -> Burn to Disk)

  • Should I Use Boot Camp or Parallels for use of a Windows Desktop?

    I am migrating from a PC to a Mac; I want to take advantage of having a Windows desktop to run some apps until i buy Mac equivalent software;
    I have Tiger, but am installing Leopard this weekend;
Should I Use Boot Camp or Parallels for use of a Windows Desktop?
I am tempted by not having to reboot, but i don't want my mac to slow down?
I am a photographer and use Photoshop and other graphics intensive programs.

    Hi,
to achieve full computing power while in Windows you have to use BootCamp and for Photoshop and other apps of that caliber in Windows its the best.
For apps less demanding using Parallels (VMWare Fusion) is sufficient enough and the slight downgrade in speed is negligible.
You should however (if not already done) max out the RAM of your Mac.

  • "Use my Microsoft Windows user ID and password" is grayed out

    Hello Experts,
I've disabled "SOX Auditing" option in Server Manager in BPC 5.1 SP03, but "Use my Microsoft Windows user ID and password" is still grayed out. The only option I unlocked is saving password.
How do I enable Windows Authentication in BPC?
    Thanks in advance,
    Akim

Enabling/Disabling SOX Compliance does not take effect until the 2nd time you go through the Connection Wizard.
Your problem could also be within Internet Explorer.
    Go to:
    1.  Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Security Tab
    2.  Click on Local Intranet zone>Custom Level
    3.  Scroll down to User Authentication>Logon.  Ensure that Automatic Logon with Current UN and PW is checked.
    4.  Do the same for the Internet zone.
    Try on multiple machines.
Also on the client machine, look at the value for BASICAUTHENTICATION in:
    hkeycurrentuser>software>vb and vba program settings>outlooksoft 5>latest

  • Users not given option to "Use my Microsoft Windows user ID"

    Hi guys.
    Anyone seen this before?
When our users connect to BPC, either through IE or straight from Excel, they get the following:
The first time they connect in any session (after a reboot, logon, etc.) they are offered both options to sign in...
"Use my Microsoft Windows user ID and password"
    and
"Use a different user ID and password"
    This is as intended
However, on any subsequent login requests (changing Apps, AppSets, closing and re-opening Excel, etc.), they are ONLY given the "Use a different user ID and password" option.
Whilst this might seem a minor issue, the number of times that users are having to re-enter their password in a day is getting on people's nerves and we're hearing a lot about it.
Has anyone come across anything similar before, and if so, how (if at all) did you resolve it?
This has been a problem in v7.5 SP4 for a while and is still a problem after an upgrade to 7.5 SP6
    Thanks

    Hi Art.
That was gthe first thing I checked.
However, we have resolved it.  Strangely, we had to set SOX compliance to ON and then back to OFF.
This seems to have done the trick.
    Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Copying time machine disk for long time archive

not certain this is correct forum.
I have a 1 gb raid ext drive (two 1gb disks in raid 1). I use it as my Time Machine drive. It is now full.
I want to copy this data to a single 1GB drive, put it in permanent storage, and then reformat and reuse the raid drive as time machine #2.
This, I hope, would allow me to have the security of a raid setup as my current time machine disk and, when it is full, I can copy to another disk, then continually reuse the raid disk, within reason, of course, as my latest Time Machine disk #4, etc.
Can I do this and how would I do this?.

I think you can still do that with incremental backups to a clone, but I'm not certain.
I poked around Pondini's Time Machine FAQ and didn't see anything about making a duplicate of the TM disk.
As I stated earlier, I think it would work. And, I would imagine CCC or SuperDuper could clone the TM drive.
Searching for cloning a Time Machine drive I found this: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20071128055047339

  • Change colour profile on export of jpeg for using files on windows pc

My father, who is 80, has a mac and aperture.
He is reasonable proficient using it, but as a windows user myself I'm unsure of the in's and out's of things and it always falls on me to help him when he has a problem.
He also has a windows computer, which he has a programme on for making calenders.
The problem we have is that when he saves his photo's after editing in aperture to a dvd, he puts this dvd into his windows pc and he cannot see any of the previews.
On opening up any picture in photoshop on the pc, it asks if he wants to use the embedded colour profile or change it.
I'm wondering if Aperture is exporting using a certain profile which windows cannot read? Thus doesn't show the preview.
He needs the preview to pick which pictures he wants to use on the calender.
He then stores all his pictures on the dvd.
I'm pretty sure he shoots as jpegs, not raw. Though I need to ask him.
He has several different cameras, and I think he has trouble with all of them. I'm pretty sure one is a nikon d5300 (I just googled red body nikon)
Is there a colour profile for aperture when saving as a jpeg that is compatible with windows?
It's a hundred mile round trip to visit and to then sit down and try to work it out by trial and error would take some time.
So if I can find an answer and call on the phone to tell him what to do, it'd save me a lot of time
I'm not sure what Mac he has, what OS he's using or which version of Aperture, he only recently bought it, so guess at the latest one.......... I know I'm a great help !!!!!
I can find out if needed, but thought there might be an easy fix....... I know, whenever is there an easy fix for anything!!!
    Cheers,
    Graham

There is no standard for a 'Preview'. It's a feature of the software that is opening a file as to how it shows those files to the user for selection. Some software will look in the file header for a thumbnail, some will use the files associated icon (if it has one) and some will just present a list of file names. I seriously doubt changing the colour profile output by Aperture will have any impact on this.
Although Aperture doesn't have a calendar feature, iPhoto does and as of the last year or so, Aperture has an option to open it's library in iPhoto. So if he has a current enough version of Aperture and iPhoto, he could avoid the issue altogether if he is happy to switch into iPhoto to make the Calendar.
If he wasn't using DVD (say a USB thumbdrive instead) he could run a utility on the PC to create icons for the files where the icon is a thumbnail of the picture, which the calendar software might then use when prompting for images to load. But the use of DVD complicates this, as it depends on the DVD drivers and file systems in use on the DVD.
Chances of resolving this remotely, remote

  • Iphoto slideshow exported for iweb viewed by windows

I have been trying to publish an iphoto slideshow that I had exported as a movie for weeks. My mac people can see it, my PC family members cannot! I tried to make it small for the web, changed the filename to mp4 from mpv4, but PC people still could not see it. So I tried to put the slideshow movie in as a huge .mpeg and it disappeared. ( I had made an avi file but it looked horrible so used the equally as large but better ,mpeg)
I am getting the idea that it can only be done with imovie! Is than an authoritative step by step on iphoto 08,quicktime pro, and Iweb so I can put all these things together?

Don't use the Finder to change the file extension. Not only is it folly but it breaks the links used in your iWeb page code.
Don't use AVI. It is a dead container discontinued by its authors (Microsoft) years ago.
    Don't use MPEG-1 (1991 format).
Default exports from iPhoto to QuickTime formats use the newer H.264 video codec which requires any machine (Mac or PC) have QuickTime version 7 installed. If they can't install version 7 they can't view your file.

  • Permissions for file sharing to Windows users

Greetings, I would be very pleased if someone could help me with file sharing permissions for Windows users of a Mac mini file server running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 (not server).
I have a folder in my root directory, lets call it Project, that holds a series of 10 sub folders, say 1 through 10. Some of my users I wish to have read/write access to the whole Project directory, and, having enabled file sharing in System Preferences (and SMB for Windows), I did cmd to get info on the Project folder, ticked sharing, added the users (whose user accounts I had replicated on the Mac from their Windows machines), gave them read/write access, and then was able to map a drive to Project in their machines. All good so far, notwithstanding an hour tussle with a Vista laptop . The other user 'groups' were set the following permissions: me - read/write; Admin - read/write; Everyone - no access; which seemed sensible.
Then, when I wanted to only share say sub folders 4, 5 and 6 with other users, who will not have access to the whole Project directory, things were not as straight forward. I followed the same procedure as above, but for the particular sub folders. However, I think they are only able to see them if I provide read or read/write access for Everyone to the parent Project directory. This of course then lets them at least see all the other folders I do not want to share with them. I don't seem to be able to remove the Everyone group from the Project directory, which occurred to me might resolve this.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

"On the way down, it seems to me that you still can prevent that user from using folders that he or she is not supposed to use by setting appropriate permissions."
I don't think this is the case. If I allow someone read & write access to a folder because they need to have read & write access to two of three subfolders, I cannot deny them (at least) read access to the third folder.
In respect of a particular folder:
    1. You can only assign read; read & write; or write (drop box) to an individual user; and
    2. You can only assign No Access to everyone.
Do I need to use Snow Leopard Server to be able to assign No Access to a particular folder for an individual user?

  • HT201514 Why can't I select my disk for use with Time Machine with OS 10.6.8?

I have used Time Machine for some time with my MacBook Pro. However, my backup disk does not show in Time Machine. It did however, offer me the chance to stop a backup, so I checked that off. Now I can't even set up Time Machine; every time I slide the switch to On, a window pops up that says something about Airport Extreme, which I know nothing about and doubt I that I use.

It sounds like the backups may be damaged;  try to Repair them, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • "Copy" Mix to Aux for use as headphone cue?

Let say you have a mix. I'd like to "copy" that MIx to an Aux to send to a headphone cue with a few tweeks.
    Is that possible?
I'd also like it if you could assign Multi outs
    (not Surround)
Example Track 1 to output 1/2 and 3/4 out
    Thanks
    M

You certainly can do this by using a bus to an aux. Make the aux go out whatever hardware out puts you want to send to headsets. I use a bus on all audio objects, including my hardware synths that come in on an input object. Ex: bus 4 on all objects sent to Aux 4. Aux four's output is sent to 3/4 which is sent to a headset splitter in the studio. I can then create a separate mix for the musicians based on their needs, not what I need to hear in the control room. Start with all busses at the same level and (if the sends are "post" fader") this will be very close to your control room mix.

  • External hard disk for use with quicksilver 2002 and intel imac 24"

i am wanting to purchase an external hard disk to be used with both a g4 and an intel imac 24".
i am considering a seagate barracuda 500gb or 750gb and purchasing an external case separately.
    interfaces - usb2, firewire 400 and 800.
Do I need a case with the "oxford chipset" to have it work.
Are all seagates compatible these days.
I was looking at a ultra ata100 hard disk. Will this disk connect automatically to the enclosure or will additional cables be required
Is the Ice Cube Generation II Ide enclosure ok to use.
    Appreciate any help given
    dual 1 gig G4, Intel 24" Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi-
The Ice Cube uses an Oxford chipset, (part of the external housings onboard controller) so it should be fine. The Oxford chipset has been shown to give the best compatibility and performance, thus being an desirable feature.
    http://www.pccasegear.com/prod2307.htm
Using a Seagate Ultra ATA 100 drive should give you good, quiet, reliable service. There are no problems with the Seagate ATA drives.
Using the drive and housing with firewire will give you the best results, and firewire will allow you to use a bootable backup on the external drive, should the need be.
The housing comes with all the necessary cables to connect and use your external drive.
Insert the hard drive into the housing, connect the power and the firewire, format the hard drive, and you are ready to go..........

  • Trying to extract Monaco.ttf for use on Linux/Windows

    Hi:
I use Apple's Monaco font almost exclusively in Terminal.app have resisted using Menlo. I would like to extract the ttf file for this font from the combined dfont file. I've used fondu and DfontSplitter. Both produce the same results (file size), but the resulting .ttf file is unreadable by Linux or Windows. What's up with the TTF file that's contained in the dfont file?
Someone online suggested I use the free fontforge program to process the dfont file, but it also produces an "invalid" font file.
    Thanks,
    -Clint

    Clint,
On Ubuntu, launch Software Center and search for Fondu, then install it.
Get the Monaco.dfont over to your home directory on the Linux box.
Run the following command in Terminal:
    Fondu Monaco.dfont
This quietly creates the Monaco.ttf font and a bunch of *.bdf ASCII files.
Copy the Monaco.ttf into ~/.fonts or /user/share/fonts/truetype/apple/Monaco.ttf depending on local or system use. The apple directory is purely organizational and will need to be created.
Update: This font created on Linux is not a valid font file under Windows 7.
Using the above process, I got both vim and LibreOffice on Ubuntu to use the Monaco font.

  • How to create recovery disks for Lenovo H530s with WIndows 8.1

    Hello there,
    I just purchased a Lenovo Hf30s type 10131 with Windows 8.1, mini tower: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-h-series-desktops/lenovo-h5...
I like to create recovery disks, but  the already installed program OneKey Recovery does not have the option of recovery disks, it allows only larger media such as USB stick and hard disks.
Here to I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there a way to create a recovery disks that will create the original factory settings with 5 partitions?
    2. Does any one knows if the recovery siskd sold by Lenovo (for Netherlands they cost between 23 and 38 Euro) would do the job by creating the factory settings with 5 partitions?
My goal is to reformat the hard disk and aprtitionig it the way I need it, but in case of anything, I would like to be able to go back to the original facttory state of the unit, especially if I have a harddisk failure and neer to replace the hard didks.
Thank you in advance and I wish you a very pleasant and successful day.
