Copy .jpg files to a Windows CD

Hello,
I have some .jpg image files from a family gathering that I'd like to share. Unfortunately, everyone else, but me has a PC the CDs I made on my Mac can not be read byt them. Is there some reasonble priced software I could get or a trick to creating a CD with .jpg files that can be read on either a Mac or PC. I saw a thread about creating an .iso file, but am unsure how to do that. Are there instructions somewhere? Thanks so much. Margie

I think burning the CD from the Finder window would do. Just click the burn symbol that will appear on the Finder to make a Mac/PC compatible CD. Sometimes that a file is projected on a PC as a .DAT file - not recognised - write the extension (.jpeg, .bmp, whatever) manually.

  • How can I copy JPG files to a Windows XE system?

I have a folder of JPG files on my MBP running OS X 10.7.5. I copied the folder to a thumb drive formatted with the FAT(32) file system. The JPG files display fine from the thumb drive but when I insert it in a Windows XE system windows sees each JPG file with a file name prefixed with "._" and a file size of 4K. Of course no windows programs will display these JPG files.

All of the ._xxx files are how OS X stores the resource fork on a non Mac formatted drive. You should have identically named images without the ._ in front of them. Those are the actual JPEG images.

I copied jpg files from my mac book to a windows pc, however, when I go to the widows machine I can see them on the hard drive of the pc but the pc will not open them.
During the copy an added extension, a "dot" and then an underscore before each files name.  Example.  On my mac I have a jpg file named 2f.jpg and when I copied it over it appears on the windows pc as   ._2f.jpg.  Windows can not read it

    Hi Friends,
I'm forced to use a PC at work that I have the windows formatted ext hard drive connected to for backup purposes.
I connected the external drive via USB2 to my TiPB and downloaded some RAW image files.
Those image files are not recognized by my Bridge on my Mac.
Those image files are no longer recognized by my PC thru Bridge, Photoshop or Lightroom. I also see an extra file type with the name "filename.dng.mac"
Therefore, if my original file name is "_JTR0398.dng", then, after mounting the external HD on my laptop or PowerMac, I also get another file next to it named "_JTR0398.dng.mac".
    Thanks for your help!

  • HOW do I copy jpeg files from my Windows PC to my iPad2?

How do I copy jpeg files from my Windows PC, to my iPad2?

If you are on iTunes 11 on your PC then you may want to enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (or control-S), which might make it easier to navigate.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad's Photos app. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

  • I can't set the photoshop CS6 as a default program to open jpg file on my windows 7 64bit computer?

I reintalled 3 times for CS6 but the default program associated with jpg file still is unknown application.
I try to change the default program, I can see the photoshop cs6 icon at the Adobe program folder.
    But just can be selected.

I would recommend contacting Adobe Tech Support for this as playing with registry is quite dangerous , your computer may crash.
Still if you want to try , first create the System Restore point and Backup your Registry , just incase something goes wrong.
In regedit: Navigate to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications and find your .exe name.
Navigate under its name to shell>open>command. In the Default change its location to the actual location of the executable, hit okay and then try and reassociate the file type as you normally would.

  • Copying large files problem in windows 7 x64 professional

    Hi!
I'm new to this forum and I recently installed windows 7 professional without too much trouble in my pc. The only thigs that doesn't work are the quicklaunch buttons (which I'm expecting HP to release it until october 22). The system is functioning ok, but I discovered a very serious problem when tranferring large size files (copy or move function) to an external source (in my case a external HD: model Western Digital My book 1 TB connected via USB).
When I try to move a file that is larger than 1 GB the system during the process gets slower and slower rendering my system useless unless I cancel the process and restart. This only happens when moving files from my notebook to my HD.
I've been doing my homework and I checked microsoft technet forums, here's what I found:
1.It seems a lot of people have this problem, in particullar the ones with an asus motherboard (which I know this isn't the case). But in my case since I don't know which motherboard my notebook has, I can't come up with a solution to this problem.
    2. It seems to be a particullar problem with the 64 version of windows.
    3. The users claim that the problem was solved when they upgraded the chipset, which I somehow tried but with the current vista drivers, but the problem wasn't solved.
    4. Some users claim that by using other software like teracopy or grant full permission control seems like a workaround to this, but no in my case. It doesn't work.
    5. With sisoft sandra I managed to get my motherboard from this notebook but with no luck finding information or upgrades to a Quanta motherboard.
Here are my system specs (link to the HP site describing it):
    Model: HP pavilion 6950la

    Windows 7 professional x64
I'm worried about this and it seems weird to me that no one who has tried windows 7 professional x64 has mentioned this in the forum (or even mentioning it), because I think this is a really serious issue and I would like to make sure it gets known and hopefully solved during these days. I really don't want ot get back to vista just for this. And I hope my post will be useful to the HP people so they can get around this problem.
Thankd in advance, will wait for your answers.

  • Can't copy some files from Windows 7 to Mac OSX over network

    Hi,
I'm running the latest version of Max OSX v10.8.4 on a brand new Macbook Pro.
I have followed the setup instructions at http://www.7tutorials.com/how-change-workgroup-mac-os-x-easy-networking to access my Macbook from Windows, and http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/24950/how-to-share-a-folder-in-os-x-with-windows/ to share some folders from my Macbook to Windows.
I am now trying to copy some files from my Windows 7 Pro (SP1) computer to my Mac, and have hit the following problems:
I can view my Macbook in my list of local networked computers on WIndows, but I cannot access it. Clicking on it causes Windows 7 to try and access it, but then I get a message after a minute saying the network path could not be found. However, if I manually enter the IP address of my Macbook in the Windows address bar (\\192.168.0.191), I can view and access all the shared folders. I can never access the Macbook via it's computer name (\\MACBOOK-ROB).
I cannot copy some files from Windows to my Macbook shared folders via Windows. There is nothing to distinguish these files from the hundereds of other files that I have successfully copied to my Macbook. They are pictures and music with no special characters in the filenames, not overly long filenames or folder paths, no access restrictions, or any other security restriction that I can see. However, every single attempt to copy these files to my Macbook results in WIndows reporting that access to the destination was denied.
I have tried both these above scenarios on WiFi and Ethernet, and the results are the same.
    So:
Why am I unable to access my Macbook by it's computer name on the network? How can Windows see it, but not access it?
What are the limitations on transferring files over SMB that is (presumably) causing these specific files to fail?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a fix for inability to copy files. I had the same problem moving a lot of old files across my LAN from a Windows XP machine to a Mac Mini running Mountain Lion. After confirming copy of some special file, I would get an error that terminated the copy operation, and info on the Mac side would show a locked folder.
I finally decided to eliminate all special files on the Windows side, before copying, by running
         attrib -s -h -r /s /d [drive or folder]\*.*
in a command window. Running attrib /?  tells what the arguments mean, but it doesn't explain that you need the *.* to make the command go through the hierarchy clearing the special attributes on all the files.
After I did that, and then used drag and drop between two Windows Explorer windows (one on the Windows drive, on on the target drive on the Mac), the whole move operation ran to completion without stopping either for error or to ask for confirmation.
I do not have a fix for the inability to access some computers by name rather than by IP address. I'm looking into the possibility of activating bind on the Mac but I haven't done anything yet.

  • Problem with file permissions in Windows shares

Due to a company merger we are now supporting a group of Macs in our PC environment. These Macs connect to our Windows shares. This generally works well, however we have discovered a problem. It’s to do with the way our Macs interact with our Windows shares. When they copy a file to a windows share they take the permissions for the file they copy from the route of the share rather than from the subfolder the files are copied to and write the file permissions accordingly.
This only affects admin users who use Macs with the ability to change file permissions. Everyone else inherits the permissions from the subfolder as they should because their account can’t change the permissions. If the route and subfolder permissions are the same then there is no change. If they are different, the Mac will use the share route permissions as preference.
We have shares where users don’t have access to the route folder but do have access to other folders. This is so that they can’t change the top level folder structure. However they are able to create folders and files under the top level folders. If an administrator uses a Mac, no one has access to any files or folders they create because users don’t have access to the route folder and this is copied to the files and folders they create. This doesn’t affect our PC’s only the Macs.
We are using the latest Mac OS fully updated and Windows 2008 server. Is this a normal Mac ‘Feature’? Is there a work around?

I’m a bit disappointed by the lack of response to my problem. As Windows is the predominant file server in business, this problem must have occurred before.
Are Mac people really saying that Macs are not designed to connect to networks? At the moment our Macs are unusable apart from a few isolated tasks. Basically they are used by a few designers who work in isolation. If PC’s had this problem no one would buy them.

  • Standard User rights to copy .exe files in System32 directory?

I am trying to lock down my son's computer to stop him playing games on it. However he seems to have found a security hole that allows him to elevate himself to Administrator which overcomes all my attempts to lock down the PC. It seems that the default
security settings for a Standard User on Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit OS on a Dell laptop) has permissions to copy a file in the Windows\System32 directory. That allows him to copy cmd.exe over osk.exe. Then from the logon-in screen he can invoke a command shell
using the accessability features (osk.exe = onscreen keyboard), this command prompt runs at an Admin security level (I guess because it is invoked by a kernel process??) he can then use the net user command to elevate his user account to be an Administrator
    account.
I seems strange to me that a standard user has rights to copy .exe files around in the system32 directory. Can anyone verify if this is expected behaviour or has the system been altered in some way that I am not aware? If so can anyone help by providing
guidance on how to reset the security permissions on system32 back to the correct default settings.
    Any help appreciated.
    Pedro.

By default standard user doesn't have any permission in System32 and is unable to install any programs. I believe he somehow manage to get access to administrator password. You may try to remove all administrator permissions and then change your administrator's
    password and enable bitlocker.

  • JPG files copied to Philips Picopix 3410 are currupted with a prefix of ._ and will not display on the PicoPix

JPG files copied to Philips Picopix 3410 are currupted with a prefix of ._ and will not display on the PicoPix. Help please?

There are a couple of ways to remove these items from the drive.
One is with the $15 shareware app, BlueHarvest. It will remove the AppleDouble files from the drives you want the ._ files removed from, and has an option to prevent them from being written to non Apple formatted drives in the first place.
But the free and pretty easy way to do it is to use Terminal. From what I can see in the manual for your projector, you can only get images to it on either an SD card or a USB flash drive. So I'm going to assume a USB drive for the following.
Plug in your MS-DOS formatted drive so it appears on the Mac desktop. Open Terminal and enter:
    dot_clean -m
Enter a space after the -m . Then drag and drop the icon of your flash drive into the Terminal window. It will fill in the path of the drive. Press Enter. All ._ files will be removed from that volume.
Actually, I think it removes all files that start with a period. None of which are of any great importance on a DOS formatted drive. Such as the hidden trash for that drive. The next time you plug the drive in, OS X will simply recreate it.

  • After copying a file from NTFS to HFS volume, file size changed when viewing in Windows

    Hi guys,
I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, I have to adopt a "stupid" way: in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.
    How could this happen?

I am not sure if this is what your seeing but...
The same unaltered file on two different volumes might use different amounts of disk space. This is because a 'disk' is divided in to 'blocks' and a block (also historically known as a 'sector') is a certain minimum size. So if disk-1 has a block size of 512 bytes and disk-2 has a block size of 1024 bytes then a file containing just 10 bytes will use up twice as much space on disk-2 as disk-1 even though it is the exact same file.
Beyond that, Macs can add additional information like Spotlight tags, labels, icons, etc. which make a file bigger. If you are modifying a file then presumably that also implies adding additional content e.g. for a Word document more text and this will make it bigger. Also depending on some programs are configured or designed 'deleting' text may only mark it as deleted and not really delete. This can apply to older versions of Word which has a 'Fast Save' feature, new versions have removed this and do a proper delete.
You would have to give more details like what you are doing to the document, what kind of document, and what the two sizes are.
Finally, there is one other potential difference, some systems and manufacturers use 1024 as a unit for measuring file and disk sizes, some use 1000. It will be the same number of bytes in each case but 1000 bytes in one case would exactly equal 1MB, and in the other it would be 0.9765MB.

  • Copy video file from iPhone 3GS to windows XP

I have a video on my iPhone which is about 18 mins long and 482MB in size. When I try to copy (from Windows explorer) and paste the file to my Windows XP system, it shows it is trying to copy the file but then nothing happens. It creates a zero byte file on my Windows system.
I even tried the 'scanner and camera wizard'. This program shows the progress bar but when it reaches 100% it gives me the message that 'The current picture cannot be copied. To copy this picture, click "Try Again". To stop copying, click "Cancel".'
I had other video files which copied successfully but were probably half the size of this file.
Could the reason be the file size? If the file size is the restriction, then there is no point in using the video feature to shoot continuous video.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The size of the file shouldn't make any difference as long as there is room on your PC for it. What I do is use the Camera Wizard and select the open to view files option. From there I just click on the files to locate the video I want to copy and either drag it to where I want it on the PC or copy and paste it there. If it's a larage file it may take a few seconds to copy over.

  • How can I quickly view pdf files like I can do with Windows Picture and Fax viewer for jpg files?

How can I quickly view pdf files like I can do with Windows Picture and Fax viewer for jpg files? I need to look at several thousand PDF files. It takes too long to open each one individually. The only thing I could think of is combining them into large groups and then using the Navigation index. But I like the way windows Picture and Fax Viewer does it because you can keep the files separate. Combining PDFs causes loss of individual file names. That would be a problem since I do need to have the individual file names.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is a DLL and is started via a rundll32.exe call and can't be set as an application to handle images in Firefox 3 and later versions.
Try to set Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default viewer in Windows, then it should be listed automatically in the Mozilla Firefox Browse dialog.

I am experiencing a persistant error -8058 when attempting to copy a file or folder from any windows sharepoints to any other server location or to my desktop or locals. Am I the only one or are the others with the same issue since updating to 10.9?
I have tried the finder plist removal suggestion- unsuccessful

I am fairly certain that would not work for me as that is my usaul manner of mounting shares, smb:// or cif://. The enterprise servers do not automount so I commandK. Yesterday when I was troubleshooting 10.9 issues I had to have tech support unlock my account a dozen or more times. So I'm gonna give it a rest until I see an 10.9 update. In my case I don't think Mavericks is ready for enterprise/business use. I am 1 mac vs 350+ PCs.
