Copy mail into ical

Why isn't possible to copy mail into iCal?

Michael,
Although I do not know how to copy the entire message, you can use the Mail Data Detectors to create an iCal appointment. "The URL data field for the new event shows a link back to the email message.
Mail automatically detects text fragments like addresses and appointments and lets you choose smart actions with a click to create an new address entry or iCal event."

  • Drag appointment from Mail into iCal - won't automatically go into iCloud

When I drag an appointment from Mail into iCal, it saves the event on the calendar "Home - On my Mac" even though I have told iCal to default as "Home (iCloud)" Is there any way I can get Mail to drop into iCal on my default iCloud account so iCloud (and thus iPhone etc) updates automatically?!
    Thanks!

  • Can't copy mails into an "On My Mac" folder

Hello. After changing a gmx pop account into imap, and setting up a new account in mail.app according to these new settings, I left the pop account, although now without counterpart in the net, active in mail.app, since I wanted the sent and received mails to be still available. Now, when trying to copy them to a folder I set up in the On My Mac section, I get an error message that says "987 messages could not be moved to the mailbox "gmx_archiv — On My Mac". An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox "gmx_archiv — On My Mac" ". Strangely, this happens only, but consistently with this account. Not with others. Any idea?
    Thanks a lot.

    try rebuilding the mailbox.
select your mailbox and choose "Rebuild" from the mailbox menu in the menu bar.

  • Notification emails not getting into ical?

We frequently have a problem whereby invites and notifications of responses to invites don't make it into people's ical.  We are a small office of mac users, most of whom also have an iphone.
Taking my computer as the example:
    2010 iMac, 10.6.8, ical 4.0.4
I set up an even in ical, invite my colleagues, it sends out the invite.  I get a reply to this with an acceptance, it appears in Mail, but not automatically in ical.  Then either:
    1. I double click the .ics attachment in the email, ical opens, but the event to which the person has replied is not altered - they are still showing as a questionmark as to whether they can attend.  Or,
    2. I drag and drop the .ics file into ical and the event updates with the person's attendence.  This is fine if I've only invited one person, but if I've invited more then every time I drag and drop into ical it makes a new event with just that one person attending.
I'm fairly sure it hasn't always been like this - I thought events were supposed to appear in ical when you were invited, and when people replied to your invites ical was suposed to pick this up and record it.  It is beginning to drive me mad and people are losing track of meetings because they're not manually dragging the .ics event file into ical.
    Any ideas?

In webmail, make your spam folder the inbox. This will ensure all emails are received.

  • How do I transfer text from an e-mail into Pages on iPad?

I am trying to write a book. I have been doing it on Mail and sending an e-mail to my wife. Today I downloaded Pages so I can make my text double spaced, biger type, bold, and so on. We can't get it from the e-mail into a Pages document.
    How do I do that?

    Hi there,
Simply hold down and select all of the text, then click Copy, and Paste it into a Pages Document.
Let me know if you still need help.

  • .vcs Mail attachment - iCal opens, but appointment doesn't show up

I've received a .vcs file attachment in an email confirming an appointment I made online. iCal isn't importing it automatically, so I have to "launch" it -- and then iCal does recognize it, and asks which calendar I want to add it to - so far so good - but, then nothing shows up in iCal.
Am I missing a setting somewhere? Or is it more likely an improperly formatted .vcs file? (My understanding is that iCal is supposed to be able to import .vcs files, and it seems to be attempting to do so.)
    Any ideas?

I think we may have figured it out for our purposes.
I wasn't receiving a .vcs attachment in an email, I was copying and pasting the generated .vcs code from a webpage to a text file, saving then importing into iCal. The problem was that I was using TextEdit to do so, which is a RTF editor, so even changing the extension afterwards to .vcs didn't do any good.
The solution: I needed to use a pure text editor. So I tried BBEdit, and someone else tried Smultron. Saved the text file as a .vcs, dragged the file icon into iCal and voila! that worked. I also tried MS Word on Mac, and as long as you changed the format to "Text Only" when saving it also worked.
After re-reading about the attachment problem, I wanted to make sure there wasn't that issue either. I tested that by saving the file as .vcs on a PC using notepad. Sending myself the file from my PC and checking my email/saving off file on the Mac. That import worked as well.
I don't know if that will help you at all. But I thought I'd share....

  • Meeting requests from Mail to iCal - 10.4.6

Updating to 10.4.6 seems to have broken my ability to import into iCal meeting requests sent from Outlook to an Exchange account in Mail. In 10.4.5 I was able to command-[ and get the meeting.ics attachment which, when doubleclicked, would load the event into iCal.
Now, when I do the same thing, I get the .ics file as the attachment but the .ics is not recognized by iCal:
This calendar file is unreadable. No events have been added to you iCal calendar.
Opening it with BBEdit shows that .ics is not a vCard.
Does anyone have any clue of what is going on?

    baltwo,
That was a typo. In (2) I meant to say "Upgrade Mac OS X" rather than "Install Mac OS X" precisely for the reasons you stated for the "upgrade earlier version" install option. The "Erase and Install" option and "Archive and Install" option are just not necessary in my case. Thanks.

  • Lotus Notes (Domino) Meeting Invitations from Mail to iCal

I use an iMac at work and a MacBook Pro at home. They recently switched to a Notes-based calendar program at work, and since I don't have the Notes client installed on either machine (someone from our IT department has spent about four hours trying to install it on the iMac with no success) and the web application only works with IE 6, and there is no provision for synching the calendar with my PDA, when I heard that the e-mail meeting invitations could be imported into iCal, I was all over that.
When I opened iCal on the iMac I found that there was a "Work" calendar, and iCal's "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" box was checked, there were no entries in the Work calendar--or any other calendar.
When I initially looked into it, I found several threads (e.g. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5186410) in the iCal forum about time zones not being imported correctly (I wish my problems were that minor!) from Lotus Notes meeting invitations. But these threads showed vCal messages and mentioned error dialogs. I hadn't seen any dialogs, and my meting invitations are just plain text messages like this:
    ======================
Meeting Invitation: Norman Conquest has invited you to a meeting
    Meeting Details
Subject: Let's Kill an Hour, Shall We?
    Begins: 11/26/07 9:00:00 AM
    Ends: 11/26/07 10:00:00 AM
    Location: The Bored Room
    Chair: Norman Conquest
Required Invitees: Upton O'Good, Natalie Attired, Hugh Mility, Justin Case
    Optional Invitees:
To view all the details of the meeting and act on it if necessary, please

    ======================
So I just assumed I was foiled again because the messages were not in the right format.
Later I happened to open my MacBook Pro, and, much to my surprise, I found that a small number of meetings had actually found their way into iCal, and in at least one case I know of, one has actually been rescheduled! I could hardly contain myself.
At first I thought the small number of meetings was simply due to the fact that I receive most of my work e-mail at work, on the iMac, so only those meeting invitations that I happened to open for the first time on my MacBook Pro had been imported. However, this turned out not to be the case, as I have observed many cases in which I have received new, unread meeting invitations on my MacBook Pro which have not been entered in iCal.
But what's really got me is that this whole process is so inaccessible! You'd think there would be preferences where you could tell Mail what kind of invitations to look for and tell iCal which calendar to put them in. But no. There's just one checkbox to turn the process on or off. You just check it and cross your fingers.
Just to deepen the mystery a little bit, I do know of one other Mac user who says his invitations are being reliably entered into iCal, and he can even reply to them. When I asked him for details he told me he just turned it on and it worked.
Is there anyone out there who can at least shed a little light on what I've observed, if not help me get this process working at least quasi-reliably? Is this process working for anybody else out there?

  • Import csv into iCal

Is there any way to import a csv file into ical? You can import a csv into address book but not iCal. For example try putting this in your calendar. http://graphics.fansonly.com/schools/wash/graphics/csv/washfb_2009.csv

You can use Applescript. Below is a sample that you can modify. Copy it into Script Editor and try it.

  • To-Do's linked with Mail or iCal

I understand the current iPhone software syncs the calendar component of iCal but not the To-Do's. I am wondering if anyone has heard if the revisions to Mail or iCal in the new OS X (Leopard) will bring this functionality into the iPhone?

  • Copying Mails from one Mac to another Mac

    Hi There,
I want to copy all my emails (pop account) from the harddisk of mini Mac OS X 10.4.6 to my PowerBook OS X 10.4.6. How to do? I tried it through .Mac but that doesn't work (when synchronising the source with .Mac the emails don't appear in Mail of .Mac.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks

    Tom & Stuart
yes, Mail-File-Import Mailboxes will do it for the email messages & folder structure ( but not the account settings, perhaps?)
Copy the Mail folder from A to (say) the desktop on B
then on B, use Mail-file-import mailboxes-mail for mac OSX & point the importer to the copy of A's Mail folder.
The messages/folders will indeed appear inside an 'imported' folder, but can be moved freely from that.
    Tom -
you may find, as I suggested, that you can't use the account on B that was on A.
This can also be transferred, by locating the Folder named POP-username@ mail server inside the copy of A's Mail folder & copying it into B's Mail folder. Then in B's Mail-prefs-accounts add a new account & enter the details exactly as you did when you set up the account on A.
If the messages aren't visible in the 'new' account
Quit Mail & start again, & all should be well.
Make a backup of B's Mail folder and /home/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist before you do this, & Quit Mail before moving any files/folders using Finder.
I hope that'll do what you want..... & with the backups made first - you can recover easily in case of mistakes.

I am trying to download a calendar into ical and keep getting this message-Some of the events in this calendar have alerts that open files or applications. Remove alerts or cancel
What am I doing wrong or missing??

I have this same problem in October of 2013. I am unable to import .ics files into Lion that I exported from my Snow Leopard MacBookPro without losing all of my future events (which all have alerts attached). All of the events from BEFORE today's date are successfully importing, presumably because they are no longer expected to trigger alerts via Apple Mail. After my first unsuccessful attempt, I learned that iCal was communicating with iCloud by default. I have since turned off iCloud, but I have not found a solution to the problem. Harvey
