Copy metadata

I can not get copy metadata to work in LR4 or 4.1.  When I click on copy metadata, with a picture selected that has metadata, a window opens with the metadata form.  None of the check boxes has any metadata in them from the picture I selected.  If I fill in some of the boxes and then paste to another picture, that works.  The same thing happens with sync.  It appears that the metadata from the selected picture is not read when clicking on copy metadata..  I am running LR4.1 under Win 7  on a PC.  Is there something I am doing wrong and not seeing here?
Thanks for your help

The process I am using is as follows, in the library module I select a
photo that has metadata in some fields with EXIF and IPTC selected.  I
click on copy Metadata and a copy Metadata dialogue box opens.  I select
check all boxes, all headings turn red and the field are filled with the
statement "type to add, leave blank to clear."  I select a different photo
and click on paste metadata, the metadata panel for the picture I just
selected is cleared with no metadata being pasted.  Thanks for your
response.

  • Copy metadata from one field to another

    I have two questions relating to batch copying metadata in Aperture (3.5.1).
    1) Can you copy the contents of the Aperture metadata field “Version Name” to the IPTC metadata field “Headline” for multiple images at once?
    2) Can you copy “Faces” (names of all people identified in multiple photos) to “Keywords” data field at once? (I have been able to copy one person at a time to multiple images, but not all people at once).
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Thanks! Very helpful. I think I get it, but perhaps you can confirm my understanding of 1) the IPTC metadata field.
    I would like to duplicate the unique version name and write the version names into the Headline field. This does not seem possible using "Batch Change" (unless I am missing something). Batch change is good for making unique names that have a sequential property (e.g. "name 01, name 02, etc.). I would like to copy version names that are not sequential in nature (e.g. "name XYA , name BBR, etc.").
    From your reply, It seems this will be impossible (?).

  • Copy Metadata failed

    With LR 2.1 the most probs I have are fixed:
    1. The automatic save to xmp-function
    2. Edit to panorama in PS CS3
    I think the adjustment brush works faster.
    One problem I see again:
    By copying metadata and marking only the place in the IPTC-Data, LR 2.1 copy also the non-marked keywords to the other photo.

    Didn't know about this bug.
    Just checked both 2.0 and 2.1 - both exhibit this bug. Synchronize Metadata also flawed.

  • LR2 - "Metadata Preset Copy Metadata..." - please help.

    Hi all,
    I have trouble getting "Copy Metadata" to work similar to how it used to work in LR1.x.
    When I use "Copy Metadata" not only the selected Metadata are copied - but all available Metadata regardless of selected with checkmark or not.
    Example: When I create a new Metadata preset based on an existing picture and select "IPTC Copyright", "IPTC Creator" and "IPTC Image" and NOT select Keywords - keywords are still copied to the new preset. Same operation works as expected in LR1.x - but not in LR2.
    I can manually "correct" the preset in a external editor - but not from inside LR.
    Is this a known bug - or a specific issue on my system?

    Hi, Danny
    "Edit Layout" button on top and then you can select the version name or metadata and hit delete to remove it from the book

  • Copying Metadata and Keyword Info when installing Bridge on new computer

    Hi, I've just purchased a new computer and have installed Bridge CC on it, but I couldn't figure out what files from my old computer I need to copy/move over so that I can access the metadata and keywords that I had customized in Bridge on my older computer.  Both are Bridge CC so there should be versioning issues.
    Can someone give me a step by step on what files to copy and replace?
    Thanks,

    I'm using a Mac Pro, if that helps.

    Sigh, it's bad enough that Adobe tech support gave you conflicting information, but for them to shun responsibility by directing you to a user forum is completely unacceptable.
    Having said that, I have the following suggestions:
    From what I've found on MSDN, that error is generated because either the Adobe software installed on your computer is performing an illegal or conflicting operation; or some Windows system files have been deleted or moved.
    So, the things to try are:
    Simplify matters by uninstalling all the Adobe software -- PSE8, Premier elements, PSE9, the whole works.  Restart your computer and then install only PSE9.
    If you still get the error, use System File Check to repair the system files:
    Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click
    Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command
    Prompt, and then click Run as
    administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for
    a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannowThe sfc
    /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect
    versions with correct Microsoft versions.
    Be patient, it can take a while.  After running sfc, even if it reports it didn't find any files to repair, it really did, so restart your computer.

  • How to copy Metadata to several hundred pages?

    I have a site with a few hundred pages. I need to put the following into the Metadata of every page. Is there any way to do this globally, or must I copy and paste it into the Page Properties/Metadata requester of every page?
    I would much rather do this globally, especially if I need to change it later.
    Here is the code that I need to insert.
    <style>
    html
    overflow:hidden;
    body
    position:absolute;
    width:1280px;
    height:720px;
    z-index:4;
    -webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg);
    left: -250px;
    </Style>
    I tried inserting it into the site_global.css of the exported site, but it brok the whole site. Not sure why.

    Thanks Francesco. So I can embed it in a master page, then drag&drop that master page on every page? That could work well!  I'm not quite sure how to do that, but I will check out the documentation.
    Thanks!

  • Copying Metadata to Offline Clips

    Hi,
    I thought I was going to edit my project using my ProRes footage, so logged - with extensive notes - information right into the bin with the media. I've got lots of information in the description coloumn, Angle, Shot/Take, Scene/ Comment A, etc.
    Now I've created offline media to edit with (instead of the ProRes) and none of my notes are available on the offline versions.
    How can I copy all that metadata from the ProRes clips to my offline clips?
    Please,
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Shane,
    Thanks for writing.
    >> How did you log right into a bin with media?
    As I watched the footage (my ProRes footage) I logged - meaning took extensive notes - right into all the useful columns for information to the right of each video file; in the media bin / browser. Maybe my terminology is incorrect. I hope you understand.
    >> What media?
    My ProRes media; that I was going to edit with. It's the first project where I took notes in the software and not on paper. So, all my logging info is connected to the ProRes clips - in the browser.
    >> Did you have the full res media and you were logging with that.?
    Yes.
    >> And then you say you " created offline media..."  HOW?
    In MPEG Streamclip - which is why I've got this problem with no clear solution; I guess!
    >> You must have done it outside of FCP.       You can't just transfer metadata.  If you logged footage inside FCP, and you want that metadata to carry over to offline media, you need to make that offline media INSIDE of FCP...using the MEDIA MANAGER and the RECOMPRESS option.
    So, if I had converted my ProRes to PAL in MEDIA MANAGER, using the RECOMPRESS option, all my metadata would carry across to my offline copies? Is that correct? Maybe it's worth the few hours to do it that way, then.

  • Copy and paste metadata

    I'd like to be able to copy and paste metadata from one to many. I envisage it as a process similar to copying and pasting Adobe Camera Raw settings, with a Paste Special style dialog. Camera EXIF data would be excluded, but you'd be choose to paste just the keywords, or the keywords and the description etc.
    While you can always save a metadata template, that's not ideal for routine work. And you have to edit a metadata template manually before risking applying it to other images.

  • Can I copy one item's metadata and paste it into another item?

    I don't think I can, but I thought I'd ask. I'm using Bridge in CS3.
    In the archive files of my workplace there are numerous duplicate images (one color, one b&w; one original scan, one edited version...) where one of the item in the pair has metadata (descriptions, mainly, but other things too) and the other is missing metadata. I want to be able to copy the whole chunk of metadata from one and plop it into the other item.
    Metadata templates, while useful, don't really make sense for this task, as I only want to remember each chunk of data once.
    What would be perfect is a right-click option of "Copy metadata" that turns into "Paste metadata" on another file. Oh man. That would be so nice.
    Is my only choice to copy and paste each metadata field individually? Or is there a better way?

    It would not be a good idea to copy the whole metadata from one file to another, there could be camera raw data, tiff data, colormode, resolution, orientation etc. that would really screw up your document! Selected Metadata yes but not all.
    I wrote a minimal script to copy and then paste the selected metadata to a single or multiple documents..

    Maybe you could modify it to add the fields you require?

  • How to rename Custom Metadata Field?

    I have some pics with custom metadata field "gadget brand", i with to rename the field name to "brand", how can i do that? I tried to rename in the custom metadata manager, but it doesn't apply the change.

    Don't believe you it will allow you to rename it.
    You're going to have to create a new field with the name you want and copy the data over. Unfortunately Aperture doesn't have any built in means of copying metadata from one field to another. Applescript however could do it fairly easily.

  • Check in Similar not populating custom metadata value set by global rule

    I have created a global rule to set the default value for custom metadata field creation date as current system date.This rule is working fine for normal check in but when i am using check in similar functionality of ucm the creation date value is getting populated from original content metadata value instead of default value set by rule.Is there any way to populate creation date as default value set by rule even in the check in similar function.
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Edited by: 906120 on Jan 5, 2012 4:42 AM

    Check-in similar does not evaluate scripts in the "use defaultvalue" field, as it has to copy metadata values. However, you can add script to the "Is derived field" as well. Just don't use dprDefaultValue but dprDerivedValue=
    This script will be evaluated before check-in operation and any value contained in the metadata field will be overwritten with value defined by script.

  • Can I copy meta data from a jpg and past to a tiff. I have CS6 photoshop

    How can I copy metadata from a JPg files and paste onto tiffs.  I send JPGs to stock agent and when they select I then send Tiffs and want to avoid re typing meta data if possible.  Also some pictures have similar meta data information and can I copy that and paste into another picture?
    Please give me keystroke information if this is possible as I get confused easily.  Use photoshop for dummies language if you can.
    thanks a lot  Gail

    You can copy&paste individual fields, but not the entire data. It's a moot point, anyway. PS will retain metadata e.g. when a file is saved using Save As... to a format that supports metadata and JPG and TIFF both do. also one would simply use Bridge to edit metadata in mass with multiple images selected...#

  • Dangerous 'feature' in "Sync Metadata"

    The "Sync Metadata" has a feature that is extremely dangerous, and Adobe should really explore some kind of 'safety' to keep people from inadvertently destroying hours of work.
    The problem is that the 'Rating' is considered part of the Metadata. So making a bulk change in Metadata can accidentally result in the loss of all ratings.
    It happened to me, but fortunately I was able to recover.
    Suppose you have one shoot that has all the Metadata that is exactly the way that you like it, and you want to apply it to another shoot. So you go to a photo in the source metadata, do a "copy Metadata", and select all the metadata. You then go to your destination shoot, and apply the Metadata to one photo, and then sync all the photos to that photo. You just applied the same star rating to all your photos.
    I had gone through over 1000 photos, star rating them. Many hours of work. I then applied the metadata and 'poof' all the star ratings became the same 1 star. All my rating work was lost.
    What saved me? I had moved all the 2 star files into a separate sub-folder, so I was able to reset everything in that folder to 2 stars. If I had not physically separated the differently rated photos, I would have lost all my rating work.
    For something like this, Lightroom should really warn "All of the star ratings will become the same in the selected photos. Continue?"

    no no, I agree that this sort of thing can really be a problem... just offering a suggestion in case it happens to someone who doesn't have a subfolder. I once almost lot a ton of ratings because my finger missed the key I wanted and accidentally hit the "2" when a bunch of images were selected. As with you, "poof" all the original ratings were gone. Fortunately, I noticed it immediately and hit "undo." I've been pushing for a keystroke to lock/unlock the database. In order to write into the database, you have to have it unlocked. This saves accidental screwups from damaging large portions of the DB while one is just looking around at things. Maybe it would allow changes to organization of photos and collections, but not to photos themselves. It wouldn't have helped you in this case, but it's another way to prevent a small user mistake from causing big problems.

  • Copy adjustment to multiple images

    Simple question, anyone figure out how to copy an adjustment from one image to a group of images.
    I shoot in RAW so all my images need white balance applied to them, I set the one balance on one image,  and found Copy adjustment.  Now I want to copy this to the next 1000 pictures, all I can seem to do is do it one by one. Not good when you have a 1000 pictures to do.  I see no way to select multiple images when doing edits. And when not in "Edit" mode, the paste Adjustment does not work.
    Robert
    P.S.  -- All I can say about Photos is *** was apple thinking putting out this POS application.  They had 2 good apps, a little long in the tooth, and in need of a major update.  But to get rid of those and give us Photos, I am ashamed for the software engineers that had to release this POS app.

    Ya, can do that, but trying to do that for 1000 images, I would end up throwing the whole computer out the window.
    It is a pity, that the lifting and stamping of adjustments has been implemented in this silly, restrictive way.
    Why not implement it, as it is in Aperture - a nice Lift&Stamp tool, that lets us copy metadata, titles, captions, keywords, and selected groups of adjustments to all selected photos?
    You may want to write a feature request to Apple instead of smashing your Mac.  The feedback form for Photos is here:  Apple - Photos - Feedback
