Copy movie to a DVD

How do I copy a movie I to a DVD on my MacBook

What model Mac are you running and what system is installed?  Your profile can't be correct as Mt. Lion won't install on a G4 Powerbook.  Do you have iDVD installed on your Mac?  The following is predicated on you having an optical drive and iDVD:
Method 1:
1 - create the slideshow in iPhoto and export via the Export button at the bottom of the window:
2 - select Medium or Large size and save in your Movies folder:
Note: best results are obtained if the photos in the slideshow are cropped to 4:3 size ratio as needed.
3 - launch iDVD and drag the Quicktime movie file of the slideshow into the iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
4 - follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Method 2:
1 -  create an album of the photos for the slideshow.
2 - launch iDVD, select your theme and add a slideshow with the "+" button at the bottom.
3 - open the slideshow in iDVD, go to the Media/Photos pane and drag the iPhoto album into the window at left.
4 - add any audio desired for the slidewhow via the Media/Audio pane.
5 - follow Step 4 from Method 1 above.
Either method will produce a video DVD that can be played on a computer or on a TV set with a DVD player. It will need to be mailed to the receipient.  I use the small jewel boxes and use padded envelopes.

  • I'm trying to redeem my digital copies by inserting the disk and entering in my code, but I keep getting an error message that says "An error occurred while copying "*movie* from the DVD to your computer- the required disk cannot be found"

I don't know what is going on, I have tried this with several movies as we got a few for Christmas and I keep getting the same error message- I will admit that my MAC is a couple of years old, so I wonder if it is a hardware problem with my disk drive- the error message has a smaller type message saying to check the DVD for dirt or damage and try it again, but the disks are all brand new with nothing on them at all- I have already experienced trying to get a digital copy when it has expired (stupid movie companies) and they wouldnt' let me redeem it, I worry that I will have the same problem if I wait too long to get these movies...

  • What's the best Mac app to copy movies from a DVD to the iPod Touch?

So let's say i have a DVD and i want to make a copy of it and use an app to transfer it to my iPod Touch, what's the best way of doing this?
I heard of Handbrake and Videora, are they any good?
EDIT: I am using a Mac (OS X)

I use DVD decrypter in rip my DVD's to .vob, which is the same format the movie is on the disk
and then use Videora to convert to .mp4 with ipod touch codecs and high resolution
most end up being 900MB to 1.5GB

  • How to copy movie to a dvd on my iMac

I would like to purchase and download a movie from a website; then burn it to a DVD and then play it on my DVD player
Any suggested procedures for easily doing this?
    Denny

use Finder, select the file you want to burn, put it in a folder, be sure file format is supported by the machine you are using eg mp4. right click on the folder and click burn ... to disc (the dvd must be in the drive). than watch the magic happen...
    Remember
like babowa said about the copyright issue
the dvd player must support the wanted format
if you are not sure if the device supports the desired format put the video on a USB stick and plug it in the machine (most DVD players have USB ports build in)

    That's a proprietary interface.
Odds are there is no adapter. Ask Sony.

  • Copy Movies to DVD

I read that DRM will not allow copying a purchased movie to a DVD. How is it planned to store the purchased material? Seems like a HD would soon be filled up with movies. I wonder if it is ok to save them as a digital file on a DVD disk rather than as a playable movie.

No, it is not a stupid concern as I don't know the
answer from first hand experience. I haven't
downloaded a movie so I'm not sure what file format
it is. Maybe you can answer the format question.
What is the extension on the downloaded file? Is it
.mov? Is the copied file the same, which I assume
it is. Does the downloaded file play in the DVD
player or does it play as a QT movie? If the copy
has the same format, then I would assume when you
re-loaded it on your HD from DVD data disc it would
also play either as QT movie or as a DVD.
I'll be interested to hear your answer.
When I clicked on the DVD icon, iTunes opened, and asked me if I wished to "restore" this film. A copy of the film was then written to iTunes with a .m4v extension, and placed in the movies library. File then seemed to behave exactly as the original download.

  • I just bought a movie from itunes and can I copy it to my DVD to watch on a DVD player or only on an APPLE product?

I bought bought a movie in itunes and want to copy it to a DVD to play on a DVD player. Can I or must it be an APPLE product? If so, am disappointed since I can buy music and I own it and I paid full price to own it.

You own it but you don't own the copyright.
Copying movies in iTunes is not permitted.

  • Cannot copy file from backup DVD to HD folder

Whenever I finish a project, I had burn the various files (movie, text, pictures, pages, etc.) onto DVDs to free up hard disk space for present projects. Usually, I would use a disk image to burn those DVDs. Recently, I needed material from those DVDs and I found that I could not copy them from the DVD to my work folders on my hard disk by dragging them from the DVD window to another open window. I could only do it the roundabout way of opening those files individually using the programmes (like pages, iPhoto, etc) and then use the 'Save As ...' option in the File Menu. It was a huge hassle. I then looked into my other DVDs and found that they were the same way. I find DVDs easier to manage. Is it because I am using disk images or is there something wrong in the way I burn the DVDs. Please advise

When I try to move the files from the Finder Window with the files on the DVD, I do not get the plus sign when I try to drag it to the desktop or any other window. Even when I try with the option key pressed, there is no plus sign with the mouse arrow. Someone suggested to use the terminal and I did. It was a hassle, though.

  • How to Copy  or Duplicate Video DVD's With Superdrive?

Copying CD's to the harddrive and then duplicating them on blank Cd's is easy. But what about DVD's? I have several DVD's of good movies, TV programs, etc. that I have recorded off of TV. I would like to make duplicates of some of them. If I insert a recorded DVD and have checked "open DVD player" upon insertion of DVD Video in the DVD Preferencdes Panel, then I have no option but to play the DVD once it is inserted. What application could I set the DVD preference to (other than "open DVD player") that would allow me to simply see the DVD icon after inserting it and then "copy" or "duplicate" it?
    Hk Jones

Disk Utiliy is another way to finish the task. Create a disc image for your source dvd in your harddisk, eject the source dvd and then insert a blank one, then choose burn.
On the other hand, if you need to edit the content of the dvd, for example, remove the commerical from recorded tv programs, you may need to extract the movies from your dvd (which are mpeg 2 encoded) using a free app called MacTheRipper and then use another free app called MPEG Streamclip to do the editing. These free apps can be downloaded from versiontracker.com. After finishing the editing, you may need Toast to burn the movies back to a blank dvd.

  • I had all my old home video's and super 8 movies converted to DVD's. Since I will move back to Europe I asked the company to convert them to PAl system.

I had all my old home video's and super 8 movies converted to DVD's. Since I will move back to Europe I asked the company to convert them to PAl system. I just got all the DVD's for a lot of money, but I can not play any of them on my MAC book.(I think that is because they were burned on zone 1 dvd's and my lap top works with zone 2.
I wonder how I can make them work on my macbook..? I intended to start editing those movies so I need to be able to play them on my mac. Is there a way to copy them to zone 2 DVD's and or to zone 0 dvd's and where do I get those free zone or zone 1 recordable dvd's?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 will play all the content in your iTunes library that your Apple TV 1 does. It can no longer sync any of it but can stream it all just as the older model did. Airplay is a different feature that lets you stream from an iPad/iPhone, the Apple TV 2 has Airplay the first didn't.
You can still sort and search content by genre, it still marks content watched and unwatched and mainly still lets you organise much as the Apple TV 1 did, with one exception. It doesn't do nested folders, so the ability to tag a movie as a show (ie James Bond) and have all the associated movies in a James bond folder has gone and it lists all these movies individually.
It has a similar situation with TV shows. It will put all TV shows in a series in a folder as the older one did, but the new one lists each series separately whereas the older model would put all the series in one folder.
Not nesting folders is a bit of a pain with large libraries and whilst I don't like it, it's more or less the only compromise I have to make and of course I get additional features too.

  • Why does th  It is a QuickTime movie from a dvd home recording.

Why does the audio stop after the movie starts?  It is a QuickTime movie on a dvd home recording.  Also, the video is choppy.

If you are referring to an MOV file stored on a data DVD for playback in the QT (or similar) media player and not a DVD "authored" for commercial DVD device playback, then it sounds like you encoded it incorrectly. Basically DVD devices have a limited data transfer rate and if this rate is lower than the total playback data rate (combined video + audio data rates), then some of the data is not transfered to your computer fast enough for smooth playback in your media player.
I would normally recommend compressing your movie content using the H.264/AAC codecs (most efficient Mac standard codecs) and set the "Optimization" pop-up to the "CD/DVD ROM" setting. This option will "package" the encoded content for playback directly from a DVD player that is compatible with data rate limit you impose for the encode. Another option would be to copy the file from your DVD to your computer drive for playback since hard drive data rate transfer is much greater than that of a DVD player.

  • Burning Purchased Movies onto a DVD

If I purchase and download a movie from the iTunes store, can I burn that movie to a DVD the same way that a burn or back-up my music to a CD? Also, if I put the movie onto a DVD, will it play in a DVD player?

Not exactly, to anyone reading the Terms of Service, it's not all that apparent really. Here's what the Terms say:
"(vi) You shall not be entitled to burn video Products or ring tone Products.
(vii) You shall be entitled to export, burn (if applicable) or copy (if applicable) Products solely for personal, noncommercial use. "
To me, this just tells me that I can't burn video products, but then contradicts itself saying that I CAN burn video products, but only for personal use (in other words, the standard rules of not reselling or distributing videos, as all videos state in the beginning)...
I did read the Terms before making those purchases, and they are not very clear. So with this in mind, I do blame Apple for not stating the terms more clearly...

It also crashes when Share/Online album/Create New album/Next .....for either Photshop Showcase or export to CD/DVD.
However, it does work for Export to Hard Disk.

  • Vixia HF R500 camcorder burning movies to a DVD

I have copied movies from the memory card to my computer and burned the movies to a DVD from the computer but my DVD player can't read the disc. The movies are still on the memory card and I don't want to erase them until I have a hard copy in my hands that we can watch. These movies are of the first few days of our first grandchilds life. The memory card is a 32 GB SanDisc Ultra Plus. The movies are recorded in the AVCHD video format. The disc plays in my computer but not in my Memorex player or our Wii player that we can watch on our TV. Help - I am only somewhat computer literate and zero camcorder literate.

    Hi Bo21!
It is likely that the format or configuration you used when you created the disc is not supported by your player.  You may want to contact Memorex and the software vendor to make sure you have each configured so the disc you create with the software is supported by the player.
