Copy of email remains in Draft mailbox after successful Send

I am using Snow Leopard.  An odd behavior has recently appeared.  On some (but not all) occassions, when I send an email from an IMAP account, after the email is sent successfully (confirmed by a copy in the Sent mailbox), a second copy appears in the Draft mailbox.
The account is a gmail account (but @plessthan.com rather than gmail.com).
Of note, about a month ago (well before this started happening), I converted from POP to IMAP.  To do this, I set up a new IMAP account in Mail, then rendered the POP account inactive.

Hello,
Did you try to go into Mail's preferences (in Accounts) and uncheck to Store draft messages on the server under the Mailbox Behavior tab ?

Actually you can change it.  Bring up the message and hit 'Message. > send again > and with the message ready to send you can rephrase it to your hearts content. Then resend.

Of course, you also end up with two messages

  • Emails missing from drafts mailbox

If I use "Save as draft" when composing an email the drafts folder indicates that it contains 1 email. However when I click on that folder it is an empty list. The only way I can access the email is to search all mailboxes (eg search for the subject line of the draft email). The draft email appears in the search results.
I have tried rebuilding the drafts mailbox but it has not changed anything.

The emails are coming in, but they disappear after they have been moved to the folder
So you have sort of rules to organize your mails by moving them to different folders? Does this happen to all clients?
As suggested by DJ above, please check your view/filter settings first:
    Outlook 2007
Reset view; View-> Current View-> Customize Current View…-> button Reset Current View
    Outlook 2010/2013
Reset view; tab View-> button Reset View
Please have a try and feel free to post back with any findings.

  • ActiveSync Issues - Emails remain unread on iPhones after marked as read in OWA/Outlook

    Environment:
    Exchange 2010 SP2 CU4v2
    iPhones with IOS 6.0+
    Background:
We've spent a couple weeks troubleshooting this since the vast majority of our users are not experiencing the email synching issue with their mobile devices. However, we have a few users that are remote (international) saying that activesync is not properly
marking mail as read when initially interacting with it via OWA/Outlook.
The problem isn't regularly reproducable -- it's sporadic.
    There are two issues really:
The mail icon indicates X number of unread messages, however when navigating into the mailbox on the phone, nothing is "unread" -- There is only one mailbox -- there is no confusion about unread mail being in a different account.
Mail marked as read in OWA/Outlook never gets marked as read in the mailbox on the iPhone.
    Steps Taken:
We've had them remove/readd the activesync account on their device, which initially solves the problem only for it to resuface.
We've asked them to change their activesync settings between Push, Fetch, and Manual.
Messages marked as unread always remain unread unless manually opened on the phone. No additional amount of time marks the message as unread unless it is manually opened on the phone.
We've asked users to try interacting with mail through wifi on a reliable network instead of their cellular network. Same results.
We don't have any other mobile devices to compare to since everyone is using an iPhone. If only someone had windows mobile.
Our thoughts are that this is due to some sort of latency issue that activesync is unable to handle, since only these remote users are experiencing the issue. Using in-office wifi the latency between their device and the CAS server is ~250ms. Over cellular
networks.. unknown. I would think the activesync could handle this.
Are there any server-side settings that can be changed on the exchange servers that could mitigate these problems?

Im sure more knowledgeable members will chime in here, but I would say the issue is in ios 6.0 here. The way to test would be if users on previous verison of ios have the same issue. There are various discussions on apples forums regarding ios 6.0 and activesync/
exchange. Myself personally I have not updated to ios 6.0 and im still using 5.1.1 and Ive not had any exchange/activesync issues. Being a windows user you tend to hold off on major updates / SP releases until the rest of the masses have discovered the flaws.
Likewise i cant say im keen to jump to ios 6.0 just yet.
    Good read here :

Out of interest what happens if you read the email/delete it from the phone ? does it show as being read within Microsoft Outlook ?

  • Apple Mail + Mobile Me: A copy of successfully sent email stays in Drafts.

Sometimes, after successfully sending an email - it's transferred in to "Sent" folder as it should, but another copy of it stays in Drafts.
Any ideas how to fix that?
    Regards,
    Fade

I read this post yesterday and thought, "that's strange". About an hour later it started happening to me. I sent an email, it seemed to be taking a little long to send it and it stuck it in "Drafts" and finally sent it successfully (it's still in drafts though). This morning I now have 2 copies of the SAME email in my "Drafts" folder. They're multiplying!
Why would this just start today? I guess I haven't sent a lot of email the last few days. This is a brand new MacBook Pro, with a clean install of Snow Leopard, and I am NOT impressed. It has been one issue after another since day one. My 6 year old 1.25GHz G4 Powerbook was much more reliable. I think I just wasted $2000.

  • Leave a copy of email on server - is this possible

I'd like it if my email remained on my server after I've looked at it on my phone.  Anyone know if this is possible.  Thanks.

  • If email message is in sent mail as well as in draft mailbox is it a duplicate or do I need to send it agin to make sure it went through

if email message is in sent mailbox and also in draft mailbox is it a duplicate that happned by mistake or do i nee to send it agin to make sure it went through?

I've seen emails get stuck in the Drafts mailbox even after they have been sent. Check in the Sent mailbox to see if it has really gone out. If not, send it again. If so, delete it from the Drafts mailbox.
    Best of luck.

  • Need a script for archive/copy IMAP Emails older than 25 days to local mailbox

    Hi there,
I am really troubling with archiving my IMAP mails. So far I was using standard rules, which have a major drawback - they only work on incoming mails. But I want to copy only mails to my local mailbox that are older than 25 days. The reason is that by copying all incoming mails, mail also copies all spam and unimportant mails into the local mailbox. However I only want to copy the mails that I was able to read and consider to be important, which I am able to do within a couple of days. However, I am not able to to that on a daily basis and that is why I chose the 25 days window, because my hoster deletes them automatically after 30 days. I read in a lot of forums that rules wont help, since they only work for incoming mails, therefore I am guessing that I would need a script because I want this to be automated and only applied to mails that passed the 25 day timeframe. Is the anybody that could help me out? Thank you so much in advance.

    Hi adayzdone,
thanks for your reply but I am not a Gmail user, I am using Strato. Therefore the handy Google Scripts won't help.
I need a script in Apple, that only copies or moves the mail from my inbox to a local mailbox once they are past the 25 days line. Within those 25 day I have deleted all unnessecary mails, marks or higlighted the important once and know only the remaining once are worth keeping. But I still want them to be available in Mail and none of those archiving solutions that create pdfs or import them into their one database will help.

  • Why when I send an email does it appear in "sent" and "drafts" mailboxes?

Often when I send an email a copy appears in both the sent and drafts mailboxes. Why does this happen, and can I stop it appearing in drafts?

If this is an IMAP account, try going to Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors and uncheck Store drafts on server.

  • Apple Mail puts a email in "DRAFTS" after I send it?

Whenever I send a email thru Apple Mail using my Gmail account, it will put the email in the DRAFTS folder. How do I keep this from happening?
I have 3 email accounts that I use in Apple Mail and the Gmail one is the only one that does this.

Well if you have no draft mailbox list in the Mailbox folder, then it's obvious that it's not creating one for that account or any other, meaning it's putting the drafts in the IMAP draft folder. You may have some corruption within the Mail folder or preferences.
    Try this out:
Select the draft folder under that gmail account in the sidebar, then go to Mailboxes in the menu and select Use This Mailbox for: drafts. That should move the draft folder from the gmail folder to Mail's main draft mailbox.
Open Mail's preferences and check to see that the box to store messages on the server is checked.
Create and save a test draft message. Verify that it's also saved at the gmail website (should also appear in the draft folder under gmail account at sidebar bottem). Once that's done, go back into Mail's preferences and uncheck to store drafts on the server. That should move the draft mailbox back under the gmail folder. Save the changes.
Quit and restart Mail and verify Mail's preferences remain unchecked for storing drafts on the server.
Create a new message and save as draft. Verify that it is not saved to the gmail draft folder in the sidebar bottem or gmail website.
If all's OK from there, delete the test drafts you created. Once again highlight the Inbox and quit Mail. Restart Mail and the draft folder should not appear in the sidebar. It will still appear on the toolbar if you have it showing (to show, select Show Toolbar in Mail's menu under View).
Create a test message and send. See if that works. Hopefully, it will fix whatever preference files is stuck.

When I am writing an email, I get an alert message that says “The message could not be copied or moved to the drafts folder. Writing to the folder failed. To gain disc space, choose Empty Deleted and choose Compact Folders and try again.”
If I do that, I get a message saying “There was an error copying to the Sent folder,, retry?”
If I retry it sends the uncompleted email. All I can do is keep deleting the message and carry on. Then the whole business might repeat itself.

Because the location for each song in your library is on your hard drive.  If the hard drive isn't there, how can iTunes play it?
You'll have to move/copy the music from your hard drive to your computer's hard drive.
Basically, EASIEST way to do all this, if you don't care about your play counts, etc...
-Delete EVERYTHING from iTunes, so that your library is now empty.
-Go to "Advanced" inside of the "Preferences" window, found in the "Edit" drop-down.  You can also access Preferences by pressing Ctrl+, (Press Ctrl and the comma key)
-Change your iTunes Media Folder Location to something simple, but on your computer. I use C:/iTunes.  Make sure "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy files to...." are both checked.  You can close Preferences now.
-Now, drag and drop your music from your hard drive into your iTunes library.  iTunes will automatically add the music to your library, as you would expect, and also creates a copy of each file to place into that iTunes Media Folder you just created.
    Shouldn't have any more problems...

Which email client are you using?

  • Mail is putting multiple copies of sent emails in my drafts folder, or in trash.

Mail is putting copies of emails successfully sent in my drafts folder, sometimes multiple copies, sometimes in trash.
Also, new email keeps entering my inbox after I've moved it to other mailboxes or to the trash or junk mail. Also, if I search for a name to which I have sent or from which I have received an email, the results shows a copy of each mail in all these mailboxes: Important, All Mail, Sent Mail, Sent G-Mail. This is a recent phenomenon. For every sent email I get 5 copies in my trash box.

I phoned up Appe Support yesterday and i discovered that SOME (not all) of my trouble was caused by my 2 Gmail accounts, which werent correctly designated as Gmail Server WITH the correct password, it was set to use the server from one of my other accounts.
I do still have another problem which doesnt go away, i open Mail normally and there is ghost Open Window, which cannot be opened, to view my Mail i have to open a NEW viewer window, even though there is a Window open all ready, the Ghost window !

  • After hitting send a draft is still saved in the draft folder.

When responding to an email it automatically saves into the draft folder which is great! However, after hitting send, the email stays in the draft folder. I do hear the "swoosh" sound so I know the email is sent, but I have to go in and delete the emails in the draft folder occassionally. I have received emails back from people even though the message is still in drafts so I know they are being received.

Is this a Gmail account? I've seen that behavior and the solution has been to turn off the feature of saving drafts to the server (see Mail - Preferences - Accounts - Mailbox Behaviors).

  • Synching emails directed to'local' mailboxes

I have mail automatically directed to local mailboxes 'on my mac' using 'rules' but those emails do not show up on my icloud connected iPad. How do I get these emails to show on the iPad? Will Mountain Lion fix this problem?
Is there a solution/workaround? This has been driving me nuts since getting the ipad a few weeks ago. Several times I've missed getting back to folks because I was using the ipad & didn't know they had emailed me.
    Thanks, hoping someone can help.
    Ian

    Thanks Roger.
OK, I thought that it should be a simple task to just drag the mailboxes 'on my mac' to 'icloud', but after a couple of hours of sheer frustration I guess I need some more help.
A couple of mailboxes were successfully dragged across from 'on my mac' to 'icloud', message count was correct, & they showed up on my ipad.
However most of the mailboxes do not behave like this. The message count is wrong with things like multiple duplicate messages (eg. one mailbox had just 17 messages but 40 something duplicates. On the ipad the duplicates dates had changed to 1/1/70 & could not be deleted - had to delete the entire mailbox.)  With other mailboxes not all messages were copied across into icloud.
I also tried making new mailboxes under iCloud & transferring messages across manually by selecting & dragging, and by copying/cutting & pasting....... all with much the same results.
So far I have resisted trying any of this with the mailboxes that contain stuff I really don't want to lose, with thousands of emails going back to 2004 in many (100+) mailboxes.
    HELP!
How do I transfer the mailboxes from 'on my Mac' to iCloud ......... Can this be done, or should I just leave them where they are & set up new mailboxes. If the latter it seems a rather 'clunky' way to go forward (poor continuity).
    Thanks
    Ian
