what is the difference between copy of info object and infoobject by reference?

Copy of info object: All tables corresponding to info object are different.
Reference info object: New info object will borrow all properties of existing infoobject. The tables related to info object will be same.
In copy of info object you can change properties of new info object but in reference info object you can not.
The use of copy of info boject is if you want to create new info object some what similar to existing.
The use of reference info object is you have 0infoobject e.g. 0COSTCENTER and you have 3 source systems and you want to refer cost center by each source system name then create three info object of cost center considering 0COSTCENTER as reference. This helps in security setup also as your new costcenter could start with A, B and C and you have restricted infobject starts with A, B, C* etc.

Have copied InfoObject 0STS_PICK to LSTS_PICK . In search of Info_objects the LSTS_PICK cannot be found .
Can find in RSD1 . tryng to recreate it says it's already there .

Standard objects to store employee dependant details

is there any standard CUBE or DSO to store the dependant details of the employees in BI(HR Module)

tht infoobject covers only the type of coverage. i like to have the dependant details, like spouse name, child name , parent's name , their DOB etc.,
I got your doubt . Please find the steps to your requirement .
1. Copy the infoobject for employee under a new infoobject created by you by copying .
2. Parallaly look for infoobjects in other session that have data types and legths that matches for
    spouse name, child name , parent's name , their DOB .
    If you are not able to find the same go create it for the fields for which infoobjects are not available .
3. Then at the attribute level add all these infoobjects .
4. I hope you will be creating a datasource for the same and then do the rest of the things to bring in
   the data .

Copying infoobject text into a second language key

Hi all,
I need to manage material text in both IT and EN language key. Some material codes are generated in ECC only in IT, some other in both languages.
Since reporting is in any case required in english, I wish to set up something which is aimed to copy description created in IT into EN language key. This is aimed to avoid report displaying the code in all occurrences text in EN is not mainteined.
Example:
Material Code A100: text IT = Materiale A text EN = Material A
Material Code B100: text IT = Materiale B text EN = not maintained
in this case I wish to copy text Materiale B also into the language key EN.
I remember there is a standard program to manage these situations in ECC HR and I was wondering if there is something similar in BI.

I'm not talking about translating Infoobject decription.
I need to have in both languages the text of an infoobject members.
For istance, considering 0MATERIAL, I need to have in both languages all 1000 material codes managed in the company although in ECC they created description in english only for 600 codes and description in italian for all 1000 codes.

Copy document changing InfoObject

Hello everybody,
Is there any function module creating a new document by copying an existing document and changing one infoobject?
Let's say we have in the BDS a document stored with 0amount: 100, 0costcenter: 4711, 0fiscyear: 2006 and fiscper 005
Is there any function module creating a document with 0amount: 100, 0costcenter: 4711, 0fiscyear: 2006 and fiscper 006?

Hi,
The activation has no effect's to
- update rules,
- master data tables,
- infosources or
- queries, reports.
Only ExportSources of the infoobject will be new generated. Then you must be replicate and activate the transferstructur and the transfer rule.

Data loads for the copied Infoobject?

Dear Bwers,
We have a need to make modifications to a standard content infoobject 0MATL_GROUP and chose to copy it (ZMATL_GRP) and make the changes to the copied infoobject.
How do i load this new infoobject with data? Do i create a export datasource from 0MATL_GROUP and use it or with the new infoobject ZMATL_GRP or is there any other way to do the daily master data loads to this new infoobject? Please give your thoughts on this.

You have few other options.
If you are in 7.0, you can use DTP.
If you are in older versions, then:
1. Make the -MATL_GRP as a data target and load from that ti your Z object.
OR
2. Bring the data of matl_grp to an ODS and include all your new attributes and from the ODS you can load to both 0matl_grp and to Z object. While doing so, you can set no update for the attribute that you dont want in 0matl_grp.
I will prefer the first approach.

InfoObject Version Copy Error

I had to remove an InfoObject (zmtcpt) which was an attribute to another (zmatnr). After the change I activated the zmatnr. All looked good until I tried to create a characerstic combination for DP. I am now getting an error which indicates that the zmatnr_zmtcpt is not in version A. I have tried to repair zmatnr and zmtcpt and I have copied both using the ABAP program RSDG_IOBJ_COPY_A_TO_M_VERSION. All appears good with zmatnr and zmtcpt as individual infoobjects but I am still getting the error: "zmatnr_zmtcpt not available in version a". Any suggestions?

If i understand your Question.
When you add or Delete Navigation attribute for the characteristics which is used in the existing MPOS , Please Reactivate the MPOS.
Try it with reactivating your MPOS .

How to add new infoobject to existing cube or dso?

Hi Sunil,
If you want to add new info object to the IC or DSO which is already holding data - then you need to make a copy of that particular DSO/IC and load the data into dummy.
Now delete the data from the IC/DSO to which you want to add the new info object. once the data is deleted it will allow you to add new info object to you IC/DSO.
save it and activate the IC/DSO
load the data from Dummy DSO and from new run on wards the newly updated info object will also get updated(historical data will not be updated if its newly added to DS as well).
If you want the historical data for the newly added field then you need to drop the compelte data and need to extract from source.
Note: You can't include the new info objects are change the existing info objects if there is data exist in the IC/DSO

Errors while copying queries from Infoset to DSO in BI 7.0. Why

Hi All,
I am trying to copy queries from Infoset to DSO in BI 7.0.
Message displayed after entering the data target names in Source Infocube (Infoset) & Target Infocube (DSO).
: Errors when reading InfoObjects for InfoCube (Infoset).
My Infoset has 2 queries.
I need to copy only one query to the DSO which is part of the infoset. How can we achieve this.

who said the target is different.
The target is different in the sense, source is an Infoset & Target is an DSO.
This DSO is a part of the above Infoset.
RSZC works here but its giving errors as mentioned above.
Regenerate in the sense, u mean i need to create the same again on DSO.
Is there any other way.
If providing some solution, let it be clear.

Transfer structure copied into another structure ?

Iam trying to transport an transfer structure and iam getting an error and when i looked into the SE09 log i noticed somethng strange .
I am not understanding why a transfer structure is copied into another structure as shown below in Bold while transporting ??? is this somethng normal or somehtng happening strangely in my system ?

Adding new infoobject to cube with data

Hi experts
Our cube contains data and is fully compressed (E-table), there is are no requests in F-table.
We need to add 2 key figures and 2 characteristics.
The characteristics get a new dimension table.
We don't use the remodel technique. We add these new infoobjects.
There is no need for a reload of historical data for these new objects.
We only need data starting from the first load date after the changes occured.
Are there any errors in this approach?

When you are adding a new dimension to your cube - you are adding a primary key to your E and F Fact tables - therefore when your transport goes it - it will reorganize your cube tables.
For this - assuming that you are collecting the changes in the normal way and not changing any settings ....
1. Check the UNDO table space in target system , the UNDO table space should have enought free space available that will be greater than the size of your E and F Fact table sizes - because , the way the transport moves is that a copy of the table is taken in the undo table space in the database and then the tables are adjusted - if your undo table space is insufficient - the transport will fail after some time
2. If this is a big cube - then the transport will take time to go in - if BASIS imports transport requests in sequence - then this transport will hold the queue and might delay others whi have smaller transports.... make sure that your transport goes in last if there are others waiting for you to complete
3. Also inform BASIS that the transport is going to take time - sometimes long running transports can get the BASIS team excited :-)
These are not technical but some bases that can be covered in advance...

New Development system copy from Production

Hi All,
Hope you can help me out here with some ideas.
We are currently planning to implement a new SAP BW Development system, and for this we would like to make it a 1:1 copy of our current production system. Meaning all from customizing, ABAP, workbench objects etc.
But what we do not want is all the transaction and master data in infoobject, cubes etc., we are only interested in the structure and objects. Therefore we can rule out "System copy".
My question is then, is there any other ways to do this when system copy is a no go? I know we can do client copy but then we will not get all the workbench / ABAP programs which we need.
Any ideas on how to do this?

Options 1: As BI objects are cross client , copying client will not solve your purpose 100%.
You can perform system copy and then clean up data in DEV
Option 2: You can create a new Development and then create TRs for required configuration objects and move to new development system.
Option 3: Use SLO tools to perform container copy without any data.

To use a Sap Exit variable in a diferent infoobject of the same type

Hi gurus,
I have the Sap Exit standard variable 0P_KEYDT in the infoobject Posting Date (0PSTG_DATE), and i need use this variable with the Document Date (0DOC_DATE), but i don´t have it in the infoobject. Both infoobjects are referenced by 0DATE.
Are there some way to copy the variable from one infoobject to other, or i need make my own exit?

If both of them are the same type means they are referring to 0DATE, then you should be able to access the standard variable defined. What you need to do is, delete the variable and recreate it, but when you recreate the variable don't refer to a characteristic 0PSTG_DATE but refer to date object so that it will be available to all date types.
I will tell you the side effect of doing this, changing the standard definition is always risky because if someone install the object again, then the change you made will be overwritten and hard to know what happened.

Issues after copying a query from one IP to another

Hi Friends,
I have a query which was built on a infoset, i have built a multi provider with aditional objects apart from what i have in the infoset, i.e. this Multi provider has all the objects which are used in the query. I have copied the query from infoset onto the multi provider. All is well until this point.
but when i see the default values or free characteristics of this copied query, it still shows the objects with prefix of old infoset. Shouldn't it be having prefix of multi provider instead as this query is based on the Multi provider?.
Also when i save the query, i get a error message saying that XXX characteristic is not found in the info provider(MP), where as this cahr is available in the Multi provider.
Can someone pls guide me how to resolve this?.

Hi,
I get an error message when i try to copy the existing query to the new Mulit Provider. This i get in Transaction RSZC after i give source Ino cube XXX and Target Info cube ZZZ and select Queries radio button and execute.
The error message what i am getting is as follows
InfoObject Source__F1 is missing in target info cube (Muti provider name).
like this i am getting for almost all the objects, but all these objects are available in the target.
Since, the query was a stright forward one i have created a new query exactly like the other one.But now i get another problem, i cant see the data in the report, even though there is data in DB. I checked the data on the Infoset and Multi Provider using Listcube.
Can you suggest what can i do here?

                      I am trying to copy queries from Info Cube to Multiprovider using RSZC, I got error called
"InfoObject 0MATERIAL__0DIVISION missing from target InfoCube ZSCMIM_M1"

            I created Multiprovider with one basic info cube in BI 7.0. by draging dimensions,keyfigure, Unit, time from left to right than I selected the "Select key figures Icon" --> Selected Create proposal for all Infoobjects" same as for Charecteristics.
             I checked the attributes and charecterisctics they are active. Please help me ....

I have problem in the creation of Hierarchies.
I am working in BW 3.1 IDES
TO_MAT is a CHAR, I have to create Hierarchy for this. I have done the following,
1.Under the Hierarchy Tab I enable Time dependent Hierarchy structure and activated.
2.On Rt.click -->Create Hierarchy- Given Name and description
Now I am in Hierarchy material Change: Modified version window
3.clicked Create Charactaristic Node button
When I selelct the Info Object CHAR - [ " Info Object TO_MAT is not entered for TO_MAT as a foreign Hierarchy Characteristic"] this error is coming. I tried with other CHAR also. advice me to correct this .
Help will be Highly appreciated.
