Copy of sent messages?

Is it possible to set up Mail to keep a second copy of a sent message, other than the one in the "Sent" folder? Specifically, I'd like to have a second copy placed into a separate folder. There are other family members who use Mail and who inadvertently delete some of my sent messages when deleting their own, before I've had a chance to go into the Sent folder and manually move the ones I want to keep.
While I know Mail rules don't apply to outgoing mail, I was hoping maybe there was another way to tell it keep a secondary copy of sent messages.
If not, is there anyway to retrieve sent messages if they have been deleted (and also deleted from the Trash folder), other than software like FileSalvage?
Thanks

Thanks for the input....I don't think that's the right solution for me at this point, but I appreciate the advice.
How about creating a separate computer login/user
account for each family member that uses your
computer so no one else accesses your messages or
email accounts or other any data stored in your Home
folder/directory?
Besides a Smart Mailbox (which is not an actual
mailbox), there is no way that I'm aware of to keep a
2nd copy of sent messages in a separate mailbox and
even if possible, what will prevent other family
members from deleting messages from this 2nd mailbox
also?
Separate computer login accounts without admin
privileges and disabling automatic login is your
answer.

  • Mail copying to Sent Messages on IMAP server

i noticed that with 10.5.4 that the message appears to be sent to the Sent Messages folder, but never seems to make it.
can anyone let me know if there have been any changes on this front (iMail server).
it behaves differently than it did, but still not correctly.
    thanks so much!

I have been having this problem intermittently, with the same error messages. Some messages are sent and stored properly, others are sent but not saved, and I cannot find a pattern. The only condition that occurred to me is that it generally happened within the first few messages I sent after waking the Mac from sleep, reconnecting to my wireless network and syncing Mail (which it does automatically). None of the messages were large at all (~40 KB, I'd say) but some had attachments such as pictures (~100 KB). All of the recipients were in my Address Book.
I guess that a less-than-ideal workaround is to 'automatically cc/bcc myself', activated in Preferences > Composing, and subsequently delete the messages if they are in the Sent folder. (Admittedly a real pain for large volume of messages, but at least you have a copy of the messages.)

  • Not saving copy of sent messages.

Hi, I used to have my mail account set up as an Imap but I started to get a lot of messages come into my mailbox with text missing in the subject or sender lines and even have the content be empty. I switched it to a pop account and all that stopped. Lately, I've missed having the messages stay on my server so I can check them again from work the next day so I set up an imap account again. It is working (about one week) but I'm having two issues. Sometimes the missing text issue is happening again but more annoying is that when I am typing a message, I keep getting a message that says 'this message cannot be saved'. The message is being sent but it is was not saving it in my sent messages folder. I had originally set it up to keep sent messages on the server and when this error message started, my ISP suggested I change that. I did and it stopped. But today, it started again, but not with every message. One I sent out a half hour ago shows up in my sent mail folder on my computer. However, I was just working on another message and got the error message. I sent the message but their is not a copy in my sent folder.
    Any thoughts??

    BellaMichelle,
After re-reading your post, I believe one of your
problems (the one that annoys you most) is related to
the Drafts mailbox. Do you have "Store draft messages
on the server" enabled in Preferences > Accounts >
    Mailbox Behaviors?
Yes I do.. should I have it or not??
Regarding the other problem about messages not being
displayed properly, what are your "Keep copies of
    messages for offline viewing"
this says All messages and their attachments
    and "Automatically
    synchronize changed mailboxes" settings in
Preferences > Accounts > Advanced for this
    account?
    this is not checked.
David, you said you get the error
message but I am not clear if your messages are
    being
saved or not... I am guessing not.
No, I didn't say anything like that. Actually, I
don't use IMAP myself other than for testing purposes
or when one of my accounts gives me problems when
    used as POP.
Sorry, a fellow posted after you saying he had the same problem using his imap and I thought it said David.

  • Sending mail with Cc and copy in sent message box

Since I have the last OS X 10.6.6 update, I dont receive anymore the Cc copy which I send to myself
and have only the copy of the sent message in the sent box (messages envoyés)
Similarly I cannot send a mail to myself as a verification process of my external mail provider. The copy is stored in the sent copy box, but it doesnt arrive in the in box (boite de reception)
How can I get back to the former situation in which I could send copies to myself or send mail to myself
    Thanks for any hint
    Claude

    The first exception is this:
    http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/FAQ.html#norelay
The second exception is probably due to a configuration error
on the client. Turn on session debugging and the protocol
trace will give some clues about what's wrong with the HELO
    command.

  • Yahoo POP:  How to get copy of sent messages onto Yahoo servers?

I have a question regarding the Mac Mail program built into OS X. Is there a way that when sending an email (my address is a Yahoo Plus address) that a copy of it can be saved on Yahoo's servers in my sent folder?
Sending email through my iPhone or iPad copies a copy of it to Yahoo's server but Mac Mail does not seem to do this. Is there a setting I am missing?
I want to be able to log on to Yahoo webmail and see the emails I have sent via Mac Mail.
    Thanks!

Hello egiggy! I can certainly understand the need for retrieving the content of your text messages! In order to go further than 90 days, the only way to do this would be with a court ordered subpeona or through the request of a law official. You can request more information by contacting us directly at 800-922-0204.
Additionally, another great tool to keep record of your text messages is by using our service, Verizon Messages. http://vz.to/1LgAc7H I personally use this feature and love it! It keeps a record of all of my stored text messages, and upon installation can go back 90 days as well.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns! Thank you and good luck!

  • Sent messages from secondary account are not saved in Outlook 2011 for Mac

We are using a shared email account added in Outlook 2011 for Mac.  It's not the default account but we send from it often.
Whenever sending from this secondary mailbox, the message is not saved in sent items folder under the secondary mailbox or the default mailbox.  There seems to be no record of the sent item anywhere.
I verified the message is sent and received.
All microsoft updates have been applied and we are using Exchange 2010.

    Hello,
Please first log into OWA and check if the email are saved in the Sent Items folder.
We can tick the option "Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder" in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 to save a copy of sent message, please check if you get such option in Outlook for Mac.
In addition, in Outlook for Windows, we can change a registry key to force Outlook to save sent emails in the default or secondary mailbox, but I'm not sure if Outlook 2011 has such trick. See:

  • Message not saved in sent messages folder

    Hi everybody,
When I send a mail by the Collaboration Launch Pad and check the option: "Save copy in Sent Messages Folder" I get this error:
"Message has been sent, but could not be saved in the sent messages folder; check the mail server entry in your user mapping data."
Please is anybody there who can help me to properly configurate that option or tell me how to remove it from the body?
    Thanks in advance,
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
Saving the mesage means writing that e-mail in the senders "sent item" folder in the mailbox. Thus make sure that the users mail server name and user and password is correct for the system Exchange.
    Also check SAP Note 738965.
Also there is this this specific port that should be open on the SMTP server for the mail to be saved  in the "sent items" folder. I dont remember what port is it. Will try to figure out and let you know.
Also make sure that your Exchange transport has the sent items folder name.
    Akhilesh
Using telnet check that the SMTP server can be reached on port 25. If not then there is no way you can save the messages in the sent items folder using the collaboration tools.

  • Sent Messages mailbox crashes programme

Every time I click on my Sent Messages mailbox the Mail (1.1.1) programme crashes - can that be because it is too full? Is there any way I can get into the Mailbox in order to delete some emails? Or is there any other way of solving my problem? Would be grateful for any help.

    Thanks.
This mailbox is in some very bad shape.
Copy the Sent Messages.mbox and place the copy in another location of your choosing such as your Documents folder for backup purposes.
Repeat Show Package Contents for the original Sent Messages.mbox on the Desktop and delete all package content files except for the following files and empty the Trash.
    tableofcontents
    mbox
    Info.plist
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
Move the Sent Messages.mbox from the Desktop to and within the Mailboxes folder.
Launch Mail and this transferred mailbox will be available in the mailboxes drawer along with any other user created or imported mailboxes you may have.
Select this mailbox in the mailboxes drawer and the Mail.app will take additional time to re-index the mailbox.
If successful and when finished, all messages may appear as unread even though these are sent messages.
If so, select a message in the message list and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All. At the menu bar, go to Message > Mark and select As Read.
Use the Rebuild Mailbox function on this mailbox for good measure. With this mailbox selected in the mailboxes drawer, at the menu bar go to Mailbox and select Rebuild.
If this is successful and there are no missing messages, you can delete the copy of this Sent Messages.mbox placed in your Documents folder.

  • Sent messages help!?

I have two copies of sent messages on Nokia PC Suite. I want to make those two backups (sent messages only) merge together. However I found that to be impossible. I also tried to use Nokia Communication Center, by copying the sent messages to draft then exporting it. Then I restored the other backup, and did the same thing, later one I added them two sent messages together in drafts, however i cant copy/import from drafts to sent messages folder.
How can i add them two sent messages backups together?
    Thanks,
    Kawa

You can't merge the backups, but what you could do is export them to a CSV file using Communication Centre in PC Suite, copy/paste them into a single document, then import them back into the phone. then you could make a complete backup of all of the messages if that's what you aim to do.
If the messages in your phone are not the same ones included in the backup, then make a backup of them to protect.
Now remove those messages and remove the lmessages from one of the old backup files to the phone.
Go to Communication Centre and select the folder you want, then go Edit>Select All, then File>Expor. Choose a filename and make sure that CSV is selected as the file format.
No delete those messages from the phone, and restoremessages from the other oldbackup to the phone and repeat the same process. You can then open both files in a CSV-compatibleprogram such as Excel, and copy/paste into a single document which you save; making sure to preserve the CSV format. You might want to sort the file into order by the date columne so you can check if there are any messages that existed in both backups - delete any duplicated lines and save again (if using Excel, sort by selecting Sort from the Data menu).
Now delete messages from the phone, go to Communication Centre again and select File>Import, search for the new file and select it.
This is fiddly to do, but it's a handy way to merge two lots of message data.

  • [SOLVED] Reading sent messages in Mutt

Hi, I've set up mutt mostly according to the wiki article. I can't seem to be able to access sent messages. The sent messages appear as a single file in the Mutt folders listing... I have a file called "sent" in my ~ which is a plain text file that contains all my sent messages. I can read it by catting it or by opening it in vim, but I'd like to be able to read it straight from within Mutt.
When I try to open it in Mutt, it just tells me to not delete the file, and that's all.
    Any ideas?

drag0nl0rd wrote:I suggest you try to copy your sent messages in mutt into another folder, and then rename that new folder to "sent".  Maybe there went something wrong, after sending the first mail and saving it to sent... I assume, you use mbox_type=Maildir as written in wiki, is it right? Don't forget to back up
Sorry I seem to have failed to elaborate. The sent mail seems (I'm not sure, I'm new to this) to be saved as mbox file rather than maildir... All sent mail is just saved as a continuous stream in a single _file_.
EDIT: Oh, sorry, I missed the part where you say mbox_type. Ok, I'll try to convert the sent mail to Maildir format.

  • Mac mail not saving sent messages

I am using IMAP for my mac mail (since I work on several computers). I am on OSX 10.4.11 and mail 2.1.2.
The problem: None of my messages are being stored in the sent folder, even though in preferences it is enabled to do so. Also, when I hold my cursor over the sent folder a pop up message appears that reads "content stored on server. Name of server = INBOX/SENT". And yet, there are no messages on the server. I even looked through my control panel on my web host just to make sure.
Not being able to have a copy of sent messages makes mac mail virtually useless - I can't bcc myself on everything! I'm feeling desperate - anyone out there have any suggestions?

click the SENT folder on the server.. then go to MAILBOX > USE THIS MAIL BOX FOR SENT

  • How can I order copies of a sent messages to be saved in "Sent Messages?"

In Firefox none of the emails I send are copied into "Sent Messages" and none of the Preferences offers to make this happen. I assume this is simple to do but I cannot find out how to do it. I am on a linux (Ubuntu) system.

Your best bet is to enhance this example to use a context init param in the web.xml that specifies a base directory in which to store the uploaded files. Using the context init param allows you to customize the location based on the system where they application is deployed.
By doing the above, the user wouldn't have to provide any input on where to store the file. You just asked them what they wish to upload and it goes from there.

  • Cannot delete messages from inbox, cannot move messages out of inbox, message do not copy to "sent" or "draft"

    The following problems occur:
    - cannot delete messages,
    - cannot move messages out of inbox,
    - messages do not copy "sent"
    - messages cannot be saved to "draft"
This applies to imap and to gmail accounts.
    The following has not helped:
    - compact trash and other folder
    - deinstall and reinstall TB 31.4.
    - archive profile with mozbackup and replace profile from archive after reinstall of TB.
    - deinstall and reinstall TB 31.3 downgraded
    - delete all folders and files with "trash*" in the file name (all IMAP)
    - delete all files of 1 mail account completely in the TB profile and resync from server (IMAP)
This might coincide with these system changes:
    - upgrade to TB 31.4.
    - some of these email accounts were installed on ios8 iphone.
Not sure if the problems had already started before these 2 occurrences.
Any help is appreciated to solve this.
    Thanks!

What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If POP, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings?
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you should remove them from the server first if they’re still there.
Does this account allow web access? If not, you may find the Account Info window useful to solve this problem — choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window.

  • I am sending text messages to some people who think they come from my husband.  Also evertime I send a text to my husband, a copy is sent to me too.

I am sending text messages to some people who think they come from my husband.  They have both my name & number and my husbands name and number in their contacts.  Also everytime I send a text to my husband, a copy is sent to me too.  I do however receive text message from people to my phone and it seems to work fine if they do not have my husbands info.

You don't necessarily need separate AppleIDs, but you need to set the Send and Receive for Messages to different addresses (Settings App > Messages).

  • How to make a copy of the IMAP Sent messages when the Sent folder file can not be found?

My Thunderbird works fine. I can also see messages sent in the Sent folder but I wonder are the sent messages only saved in the IMAP server. For the backup purposes I would like to copy the file of the Sent folder but I can not find a local file for it.
In /home/me/.thunderbird/44g5fxvp.default/ImapMail/mail.[mymail].fi I do have files
    Archives-1.sbd
    Archives.msf
    Deleted Messages
    Deleted Messages.msf
    Drafts.msf
    INBOX
    INBOX.msf
    inbox_old
    inbox_old.msf
    msgFilterRules.dat
    Sent.msf
    Templates.msf
    Trash.msf
    Trash.sbd
I.e.the Sent.msf esists but there is not file named Sent. Am I looking from a wrong place? Are my Thunderbird settings or preferences wrong? Is there something obvious I have missed?
What is the most convenient way to make a local copy of the Sent folder messages if Thunderbird does not make a local copy of it?

re: the Sent.msf esists but there is not file named Sent
That is because they are not stored on your computer they are stored on the server. The Sent.msf file is just an indexing file and does not store emails.
    re INBOX, INBOX.msf, inbox_old, inbox_old.msf
These subscribed folders have been synchronised to get a local copy onto your computer in your Thunderbird profile folder.
You need to do the same with the 'Sent folder.
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_configuring-synchronization-and-disk-space-usage
then go into 'offline' mode to stop further synchronising.
Then you can right click on selected emails and save as .eml files in a folder external to Thunderbird.
You can also copy or move emails into a suitable folder in Local Folders. These folders keep emails on your computer, they are not modified by the server, they do not synchronise with any IMAP mail account.
