Copy of system profile
i'm trying to get an issue resolved and i was asked to send a copy of my system profile. im new to macs and dont understand what this is or where to find it, could someone help me out please? how do i get a copy of my system profile?

1. click on the blue apple at the upper left of your display
2. click on the first line "About this Mac"
3. a little window pops up. in that window click on "More Info...."
4. this starts the application called System Profiler.
5. under the File menu of this application, click on "Save As...."
6. a 'save as' dialog box pops up. in the left side click on desktop, then click on Save. this step might take a minute...
7. command-Q to quit
the system profile document is now sitting on your desktop... the name of this file is [the name of your computer].spx.
you can then attach this file to an email or whatever.... cheers

Unable to open SYSTEM PROFILER
Hi all,
I updated my software to 10.5.8.
Since then i'm unable to open system profiler.
Tried using the:
a) option button > then click system profiler
b) spotlight
c) apple logo > abt this mac>

Try deleting this file.
com.apple.systemprofiler.plist
~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash then try to launch the System Profiler.
If that doesn't work you could perform an Archive & Install which would reinstall a new copy of the Mac OS X for you which would install the System Profiler app.
As with any installation, make sure and back up all important data first.

Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Client Copy and System Restore query
Dear All,
I have few major doubt regarding client copy and system restor.
1. In my Quality system there are 2 clients: 100 and 200.In my PRD there is only 1 client 300(other than the standard default clients). My doubt is during remote client copy with SAP_ALL profile from PRD to QUA why the space increases only in MB.
I have been asked the same question by my management. They are saying PRD is 300GB and QUA is 220GB then why the space increases in MB though all data is copied in client 200(QUA) from client300(PRD)
2. If I delete client why the space is released in MB. Because according to them it should be in GBs.
3. Now my third query is I have to restore PRD backup in QUA.So I said that this requires same <SID> and Same sapce in the sapdatafiles(OS is HP-UX 11.31 and DB is Oracle 10g).So I have to explain them why these two things are contradary to each other. In case of client copy space required is only in MB and in case of System restore of PRD in QUA sapce require is in GBs.
Your suggestions will be highly obliged.

The database structures,tables etc are already present.

Response > Since client deletion is not same as deleting database /customizing tables .If you delete complete dataspaces/tables then there will be sizeable difference.Similar logic as Response 1
3. CS-4 Vista 64 Bit Installation problems - "checking system profile...."

I know that this has been discussed in the past, but I was hoping that perhaps someone has determined a fix for the following problem.
Background: In the past, with Windows XP Professional, I never had problems with loading any Adobe products. But just last week I reluctantly upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium because it came with a new power system PC that I purchased (AMD quad-core 2.4 gHz Phenom CPU, 8 Gigs of RAM and 1 TB HD) and this is where my problems began:
Nature of problem: I loaded the latest versions of Lightroom and Adobe Elements just fine - absolutely no problems there. But when I tried to load my Photoshop CS-4 upgrade disk, it never gets past the "checking system profile" bar at the very beginning of the install process. I mean to say that you initially get the install window and when you click "install," a small window comes up which indicates "checking system profile." Then the progress indicator goes all the way to the right - around 90% to the right but then just hangs there - and I mean stays there...period. I tried this several times, eventually having to use control/ALT/Delete in each instance to get it to stop. I even let it stay there for over 6 hours - all to no avail. What I found interesting is that just about all of my older programs - even those dating back to 2001 - all installed without a problem at all.
2. Actions I took to try and correct this:
a. Then, in my attempt to find fixes for this, I made sure to close out any background programs that were running (and Vista has a million of 'em), to include Firewall, Windows Defender, any other malware and anti-virus programs, not to mention a bunch of smaller programs that have items running in the background. Then I tried loading CS-4 again....but still no go, the "checking system profile" indicator just hangs at 90% complete. Note that at no time did the install process ever load any files at all - I checked everything to ensure this wasn't the case, otherwise I would have removed them.
b. On my next try, I then I copied all of the files from the CD to a folder on my desktop and tried to run the program from there - still no go as the "checking system profile" window still hangs at 90% I even tried loading the program by right clicking on the exe file and installing "as administrator," but that didn't do the trick either.
c. Then I rebooted into safe mode, trying both to load the programs first from the CD and then from the desktop folder - still no go, but in this case it told me right up front that the action was unable to be completed. I assumed this meant that in Windows Safe Mode, the installer was not available.
Help Needed: So folks, I know this has been discussed in the past, but I don't know of any fixes that are available. Can anybody help me through this process? You can also send me direct emails at: [email protected] - which means I'd get them right away.
This has been driving me up a wall because some other folks with Vista 64 Bit systems report that they had no problems with installation. Again - it never makes it to installation, but gets hung up at the "checking system profile" stage.

Fuquay-Varina, North CarolinaI believe you are falling victim to some known incombatibility of LR vs. PS CS4 installer. This should be covered in the knowledge base, so check there. A short way to happiness may be using the CS4 Clean Utility to remove the debris from the failed installs and unregister other Adobe installs, then install PS CS4, but since I don't use LR and never have tried this, I'm not sure if this specific case is covered.

I am currently thinking about what my next laptop is going to be after my MacBook Pro from about 2009 finally gives out (still going strong!), and I am in between the 128GB and the 256GB MacBook Air models so I wanted to get an idea of how much space I was using right now. When I use the system profiler I get this result:
Yet when I use MacKeeper's Disk Usage Utility I get this result:
The biggest issue being, why is there almost 50GB of difference in Music alone? This computer has been through every OS since the one it came out with (think it was Snow Leopard), I have always used MacKeeper to keep everything in order and it's been running great ever since. But can somebody please explain where these discrepancies come from and how I can fix them?For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal. -
Isight not working & found in system profiler after efi firmware upd 1.17f0
hi there,
i got a brand new macbook core 2 duo to my birthday yesterday.
the isight worked when setting up my user account right in the beginning. right after that i downloaded all system updates including the efi firmware update 1.17f0 which is version 1.1, basically, i wanted to play with photobooth. it said that the camera is used by another application. then i checked the system profiler (section usb), but it's not there. i tried to install skype which didn't find the camera at all. also changing my user-photo in my user-account-setup in system preferences didn't work because 'there is no camera connected'.
i even formatted the drive and reinstalled os x again. i'm quite sure it's the firmware update that is causing the problems.
repairing permission, resetting PRAM and SMC didn't work neither.

If it is missing you can get a copy of the file here. http://techslaves.org/index.php?page=17 There are two links in the first part. Either one works I just tested them. Some others have complained that this missing file caused their problem and putting it back fixed it.

Why is the installer stuck on "Checking System Profile-"?
I'm trying to install Flash Catalyst Beta on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard).
The installer starts to work, but then it stops at the point where it checks the system profile (see attached screenshot). It doesn't seem to have crashed as the dock icon allows me to quit without force quitting the application.
I've tried it in my regular user account and the administrator account, but the behaviour is identical.
Any help would be appreciated.I appreciate all your efforts, but I¹ve just received my new copy of CS5, so
I¹ll be installing the final version.

I need to ask you a few questions and request you to perform some more steps
so that I can debug your problem.
1. Have you modified any folder permissions, authorization setup using
Keychain Access utility (or any other tool)?
2. Open a Terminal window, and run the command 'ls -l /tmp' and copy-paste
the output printed on your screen in your reply.
3. Delete all files whose name start with 'asu' in your /tmp folder. Run the
command 'rm -rf /tmp/asu*'. Restart your machine.
4. Launch the Flash Catalyst setup and check if installation proceeds
successfully. If it doesn't, proceed to the step below.
5. Open the folder containing the Flash Catalyst setup. Browse to the
'packages' folder and rename the file 'install.sig' to 'update.sig'. Double
click and launch the Flash Catalyst setup. This will not install the
application but install the Adobe Application Manager. Let me know if you
see a small dialog with a progress bar. Rename back update.sig to
install.sig. Update us your observations. Continue to next step.
6. Launch 'Disk Utility' app (from /Applications/Utilities). Select your OS
partition in the left panel and click on 'First Aid' tab on the top. Click
on the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button at the bottom.
7. Again, launch the Flash Catalyst setup and check if installation proceeds
successfully. If it doesn't, proceed to the step below.
8. Open a Terminal window and navigate to the directory containing the Flash
Catalyst setup. Run the command 'sudo Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install'
and enter the password. Let me know if the installer launches and on
following the screen instructions do you still see the error screen or does
the installation proceed successfully. -
Right now, it seems as if it is still showing in System Profiler, then the unnecessary BlackBerry software I downloaded from the internet is still using memory, right? How do I permanently delete it?
In addition to what Drew wrote, remember the Mac has a data fork and a resource fork.

Note that the ._file files you note are the resource forks of Mac files you copied to the drive from your Mac, and these are only visible when you use the Flash drive on a PC. These are normal and indicate the Flash drive is already formatted for Windows.
When you copy or save a file from a Mac OS X system to a Windows shared volume or a Windows-formatted disk, the Mac creates two files: the data fork (xxx) and the resource fork (._xxx). This is called Apple Double Format and is normal. The resource fork contains additional data about the file that is exclusive to the Mac that cannot be saved otherwise on Windows-formatted disks. This is new with Mac OS X, as documented in Mac OS X: Apple Double Format Creates File Name With the Prefix '._'.
The resource fork files (._xxx) are necessary if you want to copy the file back to the Mac and retain the metadata. The resource forks of files are invisible when they are used on the Mac: the Mac OS Extended file system (aka HFS Plus or HFS+) uses forked files, with a file having both data and resource forks.
You can delete the resource forks on the Windows disk if and only if you don't care about losing the resource fork information should you copy them back to the Mac, such as comments, image preview icon, etc. Some Mac applications use the resource fork data, so deleting the resource fork can be problematic if you copy the file back to the Mac. Likewise moving the file while not also moving its associated resource fork when using the data on a PC can result in problems when using some files again on the Mac.
You can't prevent the resource forks from being created if you copy or save files from the Mac to the Windows share or Windows-formatted disk via Finder. -
Hard Drive Shows Up In System Profile, But Not On Desktop
I took the old hard drive out of my intel mac mini (60gb fuji) and installed it on my power mac g5 (1.8 single); it worked long enough for me to copy all my old files over before it randomly froze and i had to restart. after that the new drive only shows up in the system profiler and not on the desktop. in the system profiler it states its capacity but not how much is available, like the main drive. any ideas on how to get the old drive working again?

Please help !! Adobe Captivate CS4 Installer stuck at 90% " Checking system profile"
I had installed Adobe Captivate CS4 previously. .For some reason, I used Adobe CS4 cleanup tool..and it removed captivate installers..and I was not able to uninstall captivate CS4 thro' Add/remove programs and removed Captivate using revo uninstaller.. Now if I try to install Captivate CS4 the installer is stuck at 90% checking system profile..Please help!!
P.S tried all the possible methods including all the methods listed in the KB atricleI'm attaching the log file.. pls go through it

Oracle 11i System Profile Option - Concurrent Define and Executable
I'm looking for what I think is a System Profile Option within Oracle Financials that will allow me to open Concurrent Program Define at the same time as Concurrent Program Executables so that I can copy and paste from one to the other. I can do this in our Dev. Environment but we recently refreshed the Test environment and I lost this ability.
I'm using the System Administrator responsibility within 11i and am referring to where you define your concurrent programs and executables.
I'm assuming this is a system profile option but I am unable to find it.

I think you have the Close Other Forms check box option checked. In the main menu, choose the Tools menu and see how is this checkbox status.If it is checked, just unchek it. You will be able to open both forms at same time.

When I hook up my digital camera to my G4 via USB, System Profiler recognizes the camera, complete with vendor, model, etc. However iPhoto does not see an attached camera, and nothing appears on the desktop to represent the camera.
This is a very low-end camera called a Vivitar Mini and is not on the list of approved cameras at the iPhoto web page.
It comes with PC only software (ArcSoft Photo Impression 4.0).
I have tried other digital camera software: RAW Developer Demo, ImageIngester and RPP360,but none of these can see the camera.
The camera holds 20 images from my niece's HS graduation that I would like to save. I realize that I could borrow a PC, install the SW and do it that way, but would like to be able to use the camera in the future with my Mac. Is there any other software out there that I might try?fflynn:
Does the camera have a removable memory card? If so then you can buy a card reader and upload from that via the Finder. Also see if Smtr's suggestion of using Image Capture will work. If so, you're home free.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. System profiler info. in SL not the same as Tiger
I am using Tiger on an iBook G4, and SL on a 2010 Macbook. I noticed that when using System Profiler, there are many Startup Items listed (none added by me) in Tiger, and "No information found" in SL. I also noticed different detail for Firewall -- Tiger lists a lot of denied items and SL just says "No" for Firewall and Stealth Mode. Are these just legitament differences between the OS versions or is my SL computer messed up? Also, does "No" for Stealth mean it is on or off. I have it turned it "On" in system preferences. Any help is appreciated.
Select your Smart Playlist in iTunes, arrange it in the order you want, then right-click on the Smart Playlist title in the sources panel and click on *Copy to Play Order*. Sync. Your iPod should now have the correct play order.

Serial Number in About This Mac and System Profiler says "System Serial#"
I recently had my hard drive and motherboard replaced under warranty.
I wanted to check the expiration of my warranty so I could buy AppleCare before my year is up. I went first to About This Mac, and then to System Profiler - both of them say my Serial Number is "System Serial#" - any ideas on how to get my real serial number displayed?How strange! I'm not sure if this will show anything different, but you can also try to get the serial number via Terminal. Just open the Terminal application and copy in this command:
ioreg -l | grep IOPlatformSerialNumber -
We are using SCCM to capture an OS image with the hopes of deploying this image to multiple computers. However, we are having issues with copying the admin profile to the default users profile. THIS PROCESS IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE IN OUR PROCESS. Does
anyone know of to copy the admin profile to the default users profile?
We already have an uattend file to use but we don't know how or where to apply it within SCCM. PLEASE HELP!
