Copy/Paste disabled within filenames

(Before coming to any conclusions, the computer I'm referencing to is not my own and is not related at all to my information at the bottom of the post)
Basically, Copy/Paste functions are disabled when editing file names (Such as folders and files). Is there anything that could be causing this? The operating system is v10.5.8.

If you aren't actually editing the file name, copying it is sometimes tricky.
You'll know when you are editing it, when the box around the name becomes a black outline around some colored highlighted text. Usually you have to click inside the file name. Of course locked files won't let you rename, and files written to CD and DVD won't either.

Hi Team,
I 'am working on a Data Entry Software and this software does not allow me to copy/paste anything in the data filling blocks.
The major problem here is that when I launch this application it purposely disables the Copy/Paste function of my Windows and the Paste Option in the context menu is greyed out, it completely disables the Copy/Paste function and its really annoying
because once this software is launched I cannot even copy/paste anything in a notepad as well.
When I would close this application Copy/Paste function would start to work like normal.
My question here is, what would be that service which needs to be running in the background for the Copy/Paste function to work..

Preventing Copy & Paste from Within A Browser

I created a pdf from a WORD document. I then opened the PDF and went to ADVANCED>>SECURITY. I applied sucurity principles that would not allow copy and paste as well as printing and I locked it with a password (the document can be opened without a password).
If I try to copy and paste text with the PDF opened in Windows on my desktop, I cannot copy and paste text. However when viewing the same document within a browser (Firefox), I am easily able to copy and paste text and print. Is there a way to prevent copy and printing from within a browser?

PDF viewers that are compliant to the standard will not allow this. The problem is some PDF viewers are less than compliant, such as some that are built-in to browsers. It looks like Firefox's does not respect security settings.

Copy & Paste Functioning Incorrectly

All of sudden, the copy & paste functionality within Dreamweaver has gone crazy. Each time I try to highlight some lines of code to copy to my windows clipboard, the entire file gets selected. Or if I am finally able to get to a couple lines of code selected, once I hit Ctrl + C the entire document gets highlighted and copied to the clipboard.
How do I fix this issue and revert back to normal copy & paste behavior?
All other windows apps work fine. This is only happening in dreamweaver.

Well the only way I have figured to overcome this is to do a "find" on any string immediately after downloading the document. For what ever reason that action relieves my mouse-drag and my directional keys from doing weird things. DW is a really nice tool

No copy & paste using muuse

Why cant we use the mouse to copy and paste info (artsit, song names, etc.) in the search window of itunes or itunes store? I have to use the Edit menu at the top.

It's there. You need to read the instructions for how to find
it again.
Quit DW.
Find this folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\WinFileCache-*.dat
(these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use
Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options to unhide them)
or on Mac -
Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Dreamweaver
8/Configuration/MacFileCache-*.dat
and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

Disable copy paste iphone

Is there a way within ios 6 or jailbreak to disable "hold to copy/paste?" Ever since upgrading to ios 6, which I hate, it seems that hold to copy is more sensitive. Maybe not, but it seems that way to me. Now when I try to push a button on my phone, whether a game or in the browser, instead of pushing the button, it tries to select the text of the button for copying. It is very annoying.
Somebody please help with a suggestion. I know apple won't ever suggest it, but my phone is off warranty and I'm willing to jailbreak to stop this from happening. I'd rather have a non-jb fix though.

Feature Request: Disable target tabs setting destination for copy paste

It might have seemed like a good idea at the time but pasting to the targeted layer causes way more problems than it solves. If for instance if I have 10 video tracks which is quite common and wanted to copy and paste a clip to track 10, I have to turn off the target buttons on all 9 tracks below to do that. I do know about option drag which works but sometimes if you're zoomed out you can't get a hold of the clip you are trying to copy. Also I may need one of those layers to help me copy to the right time but now next edit function doesn't stop on them anymore.
What is important is being able to select which tracks you want PPro to stop at when you hit the next edit keys. For instance if I'm doing a color pass I don't want to stop on audio edits or gfx edits. So If I go through that whole process of turning these things off just to clone a clip I then have to turn them all back on. IMO it doesn't make sense to share these two functions with the target buttons and it's just too tedious in the first place to use the target buttons to set paste destination.
What I think would make sense would be an option that says copy paste follows target selection or copy paste to same layer. Then the target buttons would mainly effect which media in your timeline you want to focus on which is way more important IMO. This could also be done with an extra keyboard function. IE paste to same track or paste to targeted track and have both functions available.
Also I think you should have the option of stopping on the ins and outs with the next edit buttons. It's very common to use an in or out as a quick marker for a point in the timeline where there isn't an edit yet.

Yes I know about alt dragging. Not so great to copy a one second clip in an hour long seq way down. That's the point of it. As it is now it will likely copy to a different track then you want it to so you have to go over and start clicking all kinds of buttons to get the thing to not over write something and maybe / probably all off or all on for the target buttons is nothing close to what you need and you had the buttons how you wanted in the first place. And after you paste you have to click more buttons to set that up again.
So for one: this method of targeted copy / paste is not efficient at all, and two: sharing two totally different functions for the target buttons is not a good idea. A very simple fix is to provide the option of copy / paste to same tracks.
This is an opportunity to do it better than FCP because FCP would copy and paste to the same tracks but it had very bad control over which edits the program stopped on using the next / prev edit keys. It's much more efficient to only stop on the video edits and usually one or two tracks when doing a color pass. In FCP you had to disable the audio tracks to get it to ignore them so that you're not pushing the up and down buttons 5 times more than necessary but then you couldn't hear the audio. When you're doing color you want to hit the button once and be on the next shot. With my suggestion you get to focus on exactly what you want and copy / paste isn't a button-fest. This is like golf. Fewer strokes wins!

How do I disable copy/paste for most (but not all) of a .pdf?

Hello, I'm trying to create a .pdf document that is a "how-to" guide. I'd like to disable copy/pasting from 95% of this document, with the exception of a few sections that i'd like my users to be able to copy and paste and use as email templates. I've gone ahead and set pasword security settings and un-checked the box for "enable copying of text, images, and other content". Is there any way that I can enable copy/paste for just a few small sections of my document? or is it an "all or none" function?

Copy/paste is disabled

I seem to have killed my copy and paste. It happens in the Finder and my apps. I don't see any way to enable it.
When I try to paste, I get "Copy/paste is disabled" in the field I am trying to paste into.
I have not had a chance to reboot yet.

Where is this happening? If Windoze, then I'm no help. If Mac OS X, that's the first time I've heard of such a problem. A few more details please, especially WRT to any mods you've done to your machine.

Pdf creation: filename copy/paste does not work

There seems to be a bug in OSX 10.4 - when printing a document and saving it as a pdf-document you get asked for the filename. At OS X 10.3 you could simply paste in the filename - with OSX 10.4 there is no copy paste possible even if there is a correct name in the clipboard.
I tried it on different macs. I really would need this function. Please fix this bug. It worked before.

I'm not on my Mac to test this, but have you tried using Command+V to paste? It isn't unusual to not be able to access menus & toolbars while certain dialogs have the focus. I honestly can't remember back to 10.3, but if there has been a change it was most likely on purpose, not a bug... although I acknowledge that the definition of "bug" is both variable as well as subjective

I have seen this before for ALV grids, but am not sure whether it was a missing feature or infact an intended and possibly optional one.
I suspect the former case to be true, so you will need to use SAPGui engineering to disable it and ensure that the users cannot connect from a machine they have control over to the server or an older SAPGui version. These sort of preferences have typically also been HKEY_CURRENT_USER settings so you might have trouble retro-fitting it as well.
Which SAPGui version are you using? There is a new "SAPGui Security Center" available in 7.20 which might offer this control (amongst several others).

Copy & paste a list of filenames

Is there a method/workaround for copying a list of filenames from the finder and then pasting them into the body of a Mail message? When I try to do this, I wind up pasting the files themselves into the message. My work often involves sending files to printers and I like to provide an accurate list of files and instructions for clarity.
I used to do this all the time using Eudora 6.2 as my email application, but i'd like to migrate to Mail and I'm finding this little "feature" to be a problem.
I know that I can paste the list into Textedit, and then re-copy it into Mail...but this 2-step procedure is a little cumbersome--particulaarly when i am on deadline and have to move quickly.
Is there a utility or something out there that helps with this? Or some secret Apple key combination that I need to use?
Any help here would be much appreciated.

Enabling/Disabling Cut/Copy/Paste buttons

Here's today's "Tear My Hair Out" problem.
I'm working on a data manipulation application, where we will be providing the standard cut/copy/paste functionality. We want to disable the menu items and toolbar buttons if there's nothing selected. I know this is possible, since both JDeveloper and NetBeans do it, but I'm at a loss for a clean way to do it.
The only thing I can come up with is to add key, mouse, and focus listeners to each text component and check the selection whenever an appropriate event happens which could affect it. Obviously a lot of overhead.
Anyone know a simpler way to do this?

Check out the Clipboard class, and the getSystemClipboard() method in Toolkit (I think).
If you were to store your data on the system clipboard, like most applications, then you can have a single thread which monitors the state of the clipboard and updates the state of the paste button as and when is appropriate.
Alternatively, use your own clipboard. Just so long as there is ONE resource which stores all the cut/copy data, and changes the state of the paste button accordingly.
For the cut/copy actions, you will probably have only one method which carries this out, so have this method update the state of the cut/copy buttons.
This really is very simple. If it's getting too complicated, you're doing it wrong. Hope this helps.
