Copy/Paste Keywords

Hello,
I´m migrating from Imatch to Lightroom.
In Imatch, I tagged all images with categories, but this was done on copies of the original files.
I have imported these copies into LR and the categories/keywords are OK.
But, in LR I would like to have the original files in my catalog, not the copies.
Is there any other way to copy/paste keywords between two files, than one by one?
The originals and copies have same filename, except that the copies have "-OK" in the end.

I'm pretty sure one of the functions of John Beardsworth's Lightroom plugin Syncomatic will sync from one to the other....you can download a demo and try (and the full version is only a few £ anyway)

I am using Elements 9 and I am trying to copy a Keyword Tag or a group of Keyword Tags from one picture to another rather than dragging each Keyword over to the new photo. Can someone help me with this?

Aperture 3 - Copy/paste metadata to external database

Hi all, I'm trying to create an external database of the lat., lon, direction, date and other metadata for ~1000 photos. I can see see the metadata alongside the image in browser mode or have it appear at the bottom of the image in full-screen view. I'd like to be able to a) create a table to those data to a text file that I can put in a spreadsheet (fast way) or, b) be able to copy/paste those data separately into the spreadsheet. As it stands now, I cannot do either. I cannot highlight and copy the text. Does someone know where those data are stored or have a solution?

What am I missing that actually will have it export the real values?

I can't seem to copy & paste while I am using Firefox; but I can with Internet Explorer. What am I doing wrong? I guess I just don't understand how to do it.

I am working in Ancestry.com. If I am in Internet Explorer, I can copy a picture & then paste it in my pictures, on my computer. If I am using Firefox, I don't understand which things to do to copy & then paste a picture, like I can in Internet Explorer. I prefer to use Firefox, but need to be able to use this copy & paste feature, often. I just downloaded Firefox, & started using it, again, yesterday. I just got a new computer in June.

When you run out of keyboard short cuts, enter the addtional names in the name field in the keyword editor. That will start a new Keyword Collection. You can apply the addtional keywords to multiple cllips on the event browser. Or you can drag the clips into the Collection in the Event Library.

Copy/Paste Settings mystery?

OK. I've searched this forum and either haven't used the appropriate phrase or it's just not covered.
I have tried and tried to use "Develop > Copy Settings..." and "Develop > Paste Settings" to transfer various settings from one image to one or more other images in the Develop module. No go.
I have also tried the "Sync..." button in the Develop Module and THAT doesn't work as expected.
The *only* way that appears to work is to change to "Auto Sync..." and work from there.
Now, please, before someone says this is a 'design feature' save your breath. If what I see is correct, then this is a bug. If I'm missing something then please educate me.

LR is using Ctrl-C or Ctrl-V only for editing text in Keywords, Metadata, etc., it seems. There is no reason not to also use it for image changes as well. It only requires LR check what was selected before the key combination: text in a field? Or an image from filmstrip or grid?
As there are already ways of copying/templating text for metadata, keywords, etc. such as Sync button, dragging/drop keyword tags, assignment at import,etc. I'm guessing that copying and pasting changes to image are a good additional and logical use for Ctrl/Cmd-C and Ctrl/Cmd-V.
I disagree with your comparison to MS Office applications. Images in LR are like Powerpoint slides that you receive and edit via MS Powerpoint. There are direct analogs in Powerpoint for LR metaphors: slide sorter (grid), slide outline (filmstrip), slide master formats (develop pre-sets), and on and on... including inserting/updating/deleting/copying/pasting modifications
Copy and Paste of image edits should be as straightforward as RSP and Office and the most logical action for Ctrl/Cmd-C and -V ... especially because it was so elegant in RSP, the developer(s) of which Adobe brought onto the LR team.
Nothing wrong with modifiers keys (shift, alt, etc.) for the lesser used contexts of Copy and Paste operations, but get the most important/frequently used contexts using the fewest keys!
The more I use 1.0 version of LR in trial, the more convinced I am that it's still rough around the edges and a half-step backwards in productivity compared to my current workflow, though I see it's potential. I'm probably going to wait for 1.5 or Service Pack 1 or whatever the next update release is and re-evaluate then.
I think LR needs to be a little more flexible to better work the way individual photographers would like it to work instead of (what seems to be) imposing a more rigid, uniform discipline on the way all LR users work.

Bulk / Collection copy/paste in Workbench 3.1.2

I have a use case that would benefit from having a copy/paste function at the Collection level. Either copy an entire collection to a new collection or select many items from within a collection to copy/paste into another collection.
I know there the copy/paste for single items but with hundreds of items, this method not viable.

I was able to get the thesaurus working by just adding the entries in the Workbench. There was a problem with the IFCR Utility which was the reason why the Thesaurus entries were not being published to the Live Dgraphs. Once that was fixed, the thesaurus worked correctly.
But Keyword Redirects had more effort as our site was using presentation API. The keyword directs configured in the workbench are not being returned as Supplement Objects, but rather as a content XML. So we needed to handle the XML content which contains the redirect url.
If you have set up your application correctly, then you should be able to see the redirects in jspref atleast.

Copy/paste metadata

Can someone help me with copy / paste Metadata in LR 4? It works perfectly for me in LR 3, put I can get the past metadata function to work.

I went back into LR4 and checked to see if the boxes were checked, and they were not. I use this feature all the time in LR3, and had simply forgotten that I had to go into LR4 and check the boxes again the first time(s) I was using it. Thanks for your help! I work in the latest version of Lion. I have not checked all of the boxes for all of the metadata items, but the ones that I have checked now do work. This would be: keywords, caption, title, copyright, etc.

Iphoto Copy & Paste

Macbook pro won't copy/paste some photo's from iphoto to external hard drive. I always back up my pictures to an external hard drive. It always has worked before. I have Lion. I copy them from events. It is not copying all of them. It does copy some. I have try-ed copying all and then just a few. It will not let me drag and drop. The last event had 137 photo's and only 132 copied over. I have to check them one by one to see what is missing. I always put the event name on all photo's. I then went back and did a batch change back to the file number from my camara, not all of them changed back some of them kept the event name. In the past I could drag & drop or copy & paste. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Copy and paste is not generally supported to move large amounts of picture files from iPhoto. It will only work for small picture files. And drag and drop from the iPhoto browser is not a safe way to back up; dragging will only give you the preview images of your photos, not the original high quality master images.
The recommended workflow to export your photos for a backup would be to select the project that you want to save, and then use the command "File > Export". Use "Kind > Original" to export the original master files, and "Kind > Current" to export the edited versions.
For a backup you could also simply drag your iPhoto library to your external drive to save all other data, like Faces, Places, Keywords.

Copy/paste in save as dialog box

I am using your pdf plugin with Safari but when I click the save icon I cannot paste text into the file name box. I have to manually type it in. Can I copy & paste in the save dialog box?

The plugin works for me I just need copy/paste ability when saving the file.

Fields don't recognize their value has changed when a copy/paste value in inputed

I'm having a minor hiccup with my copy and paste buttons.
I have check boxes that, when checked, make other fields visible. The copy/paste actions recognize when the check box value is 1 and paste accordingly in the new instance of the subform, however, the invisible fields do not become visible, despite the check box value being 1 in the new instance. I feel like I'm missing something simple....possibly something that forces the scripting within the check box field to run since it is not recognizing that it's value has changed? If I manually click the check box in the new instance, the scripting works and the invisible fields become visible so I know its not an issue with creating new instances.
Any suggestions will be appreciated...I am new to this...

Are SMS forwarding/Editing and Text Copy Paste functions supported in Firefox OS?

Could not find any options to forward SMS or edit text messages, neither could find any options to copy paste general text. Most importantly, in the number dial pad, the cursor can't be moved to the desired location to add digits. Am I wrong? If so how do I go about these things?

Can't get Typekit to work with localhost (also, another weird issue with copy+paste)

I've searched through the other posts already, and I *think* I've tried all the solutions, but I still can't get the typekit fonts on my machine.
I'm trying to use the "orator-std" font. In the "kit editor", in the "kit settings -> kit settings" tab I have for name "localhost" (w/o quotes) and for domains just "127.0.0.1" (w/o quotes).
Then (AFTER saving the settings from that tab), I go back into edge animate, I start a new font by clicking that + sign next to "fonts", in the "library" tab. I set the "font fallback list" to ' "orator-std",sans-serif ' (w/ quotes, w/o single quotes), and then go back to the open browser and go to the "embed code", copy both lines of javascript, go back to edge animate, and... nothing. It won't let me change ANY text in this box anymore after the window loses focus. I have to press "cancel" and try again. So this time, I just type in the orator-std... blah blah, same as last time, but paste in the code successfully as it was already in the clipboard and I didn't need to make the window lose focus. Okay, so I click "Add font", and apply the font to my text. Nothing happens.
Huh... well the "Font's from T" picture is showing up in the bottom right of my screen, so that's odd. I go to preview in chrome, still ugly old sans-seriff there, also with the "Font's from T" logo in the bottom right.
I figure "okay, probably just takes a second... or a minute... or w/e like the message said." Well this was at least an hour ago, so something is still wrong.
I would love to just delete the font and start from scratch... maybe something got screwed up along the way and it would fix things to just start from scratch. Well... "sorry" says edge animate... can't let you delete that! In the "libarary" tab, there's only one font visible, it says "orator-std,sans-serif" (w/o quotes). If I right click it, the only option is "delete" and it's greyed out.
I tried doing one with arial instead of sans-serif just now, still not working, but everything shows up in arial now instead of sans-serif... so that's something I guess.
Apologies if this is just a simple problem that I'm just somehow not grasping. Please accept this legitimate bug report as payment... the er copy paste bug, I mean...

Hi Trevor,
I'm sorry you ran into trouble here. Typekit can be used locally. However there are some necessary steps that if left out, will cause the fonts not to render. In order to use Typekit locally, you've got to:
1. Be running a local server when testing your site in the browser. You can tell if you're running a local server by the URL of the local site. If it starts with: file:// then you are just viewing the local file in a browser and not running it from a local server.
If the local URL starts with: http:// then you're running a local server.
2. The domain of your local server has to be part of the domain list in your Kit. So, if your local server uses: localhost, you'll need to add this to your Kit's domains.

I am working in windows 7 and I am trying to enable the copy/paste and I can not find user.j file in the profile and I am not real sure how to create a file, I can create a folder .

I am trying to copy text from a word document and paste it into my web builder and it says that firefox does not support copy/paste from clipboard. Went to your site and it tells me to open the user.j file in my profile. This file does not exist and I am not real sure how to create that file so I can paste the fix from your site into it.

I went to that link and added to firefox add on but it still does not work. I went to the add on option button for this but it told me that my MYSIWG widget was disabled. Does this have something to do with it not working and if so how do you enable it.

Copy/Paste difference between CS4 and CS5

Please help... I am losing my mind...
I just upgraded from CS4 to CS5 the other day and am at my wits end.
I use Adobe Illustrator for live trace and paste the paths into an embroidery software for digitizing.
In Adobe Illustrator CS4, I could copy (ctrl+c) paths in illustrator and then open the embroidery software and paste (ctrl+v) the paths.
Now that I've upgraded to Illustrator CS5, I can no longer copy/paste paths... why? The paths simply wont paste into the embroidery software any longer.
I feel like there is something very fundamental that I am missing.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestion. If you can't tell already, I am far from an Illustrator power user...
I verified my clipboard settings looked as the attached image and it still did not seem to work. I also tried every combination of options and none of them worked either.
Work Flow: I will highlight the paths and copy them, then in the embroidery software when I hit paste, the mouse cursor turns into the processing icon for a split second like it's trying to paste, but nothing ever shows up in the embroidery software.
I reinstalled Illustrator CS4 alongside CS5 this morning, and tried the same copy/paste process with CS4 (from an illustrator file created in CS5)... works like a charm. I realize that downgrading to CS4 is not the solution. However, not being able to correctly operate the copy/paste commands is toying with my ego...

Project duplication: Copy/Paste vs. Export/Import

Anyone have any thoughts on project duplication?
Presently I am copying a project and then pasting it into multiple new locations then renaming them. Recently I was in a training session where the instructor suggested exporting the project and then importing it claiming database size savings. Can anyone shed any insight?

I can't imagine why an export/import would be a smaller footprint within the database than a project copy/paste. Not to mention that if you are talking about a relatively large project it can take a substantial amount of time to export and import. One of our schedules that is about 18k activities takes approximately 1.5 hours to export/import where as a project copy/paste only takes about 10 minutes. Note that we do not copy the baseline schedules when replicating projects.
