Copy/pasted music to iTunes, now it says it's synced with another library...

The vast majority of my music is on an external hard drive and I was having no luck importing it into the new iTunes, so I just opened a Finder window and copy/pasted some music I wanted into the play list I use to sync music to my phone. I then went in to sync and got this message:
"The iPhone “xxxx iPhone” is synced with another iTunes library on “xxxx MacBook Pro”. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
I haven't changed to a different version of iTunes...just added some songs. What the heck? Now what do I do?

In addition...it ONLY does this when I'm in the music. I went in to apps and they synced just fine. What's going on here? In the past, iTunes was so easy and intuitive. Why has it changed so drastically?

My iPhone is now saying it is synced with another library - despite me not changing my iPhone or iTunes since I last synced - related to downtime (2 June?)

I synced my iPhone a couple of days ago no problems, and I always 'manually manage' my stuff between iTunes and my iPhone 4.
Just now I plug in to drop a new album onto my phone, and the 'manually manage music and videos' box is unchecked (nobody else uses my machine, no other devices plugged into it) and when I check it, it tells me my iPhone is synced with another library.
The only thing I have changed that I can think of is my iTunes password - while working out what was causing the downtime yesterday (error 5002 with the store, etc.)
Is it related?

I'm sorry, I am having a smilar problem and my contacts have already been deleted because of it. I recently reloaded my OS as my computer was having problems. I'm using Vista. I had to reload itunes and when I attempted to sync my phone it said my iphone was synced with another itunes library. I'm not sure if I messed up and created two apple ID's. When I log into apple and attempted to see if I had any other accounts it did not show any, but when I try the other name I thought I had used first, it said that account had been locked for security reasons. I actually hit the "accept" button by mistake and it deleted everything so I unplugged it really quick and all I lost was my contacts. How on earth do I fix this? I can plug my iphone in and sign on, but if I attempt to change anything it gives that same message.

ITunes 8 - thinks my iPod was synced with another library

Installed iTunes 8 - no issues with installation.
Plugged in my iPod - message pops up that my iPod is synced with another library (which it has not been). Choices are to Erase and Sync, or Transfer Purchases.
If I Erase and Sync I'm going to lose all of my playlists.
But if I Transfer Purchases won't I lose anything I've downloaded since the last time I synced?

The iPhone is ONLY allowed to by synced to one computer. [Google is your friend! Search other online forums for this matter!]
You can transfer your iTunes collection to the other computer but your iPhone is still synced to the old computer.
A file (or more) is left on the computer where the iPhone is originally synced. That's how iTunes knows that the iPhone was synced to That particular computer.
You'll need to deauthorize iTunes on the old Mac.
Go to the new Mac and iTunes and make a backup of the iPhone's contents if not through iCloud.
Then resync.
You will get a message that the contents will be replaced!
All of the iPhone's contents should already be in your iTunes folder collection or backed up so let the contents be replaced then restore the iPhone's contents.
Apple should REMOVE the iPhone syncing restriction as well as the drag n drop feature of contents From the iPhone back to the computer/iTunes but it won't!

My laptop crashed so now its empty well i had to reinstall itunes but my ipod says its already synced with another library :( is there anyway to get my old library back on my laptop again

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

As far as the iPod know your restored computer is a new computer/new library. If everything that is on your iPod is in the library on your restored computer let iTunes erase you iPod and replace its contents with what is now in your iTunes library. If you have the iPod backup from your pre-restored iPod, you can restore your iPod from that backup to get your app data and other things back. See the following fro the location of the backup file and what is in the backup.

Copy music
- WHen everything is on your computr connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not contain synced media like apps and music.

Rebuilt iTunes library now iPhone says it's synced to another

I was having a problem with AppleTV authorisation and followed all Apple's troubleshooting steps which didn't work.
One of these involved rebuilding the iTunes library form the .xml file which I did.
Now when I connect my iPhone and try to manually transfer music it won't let me and tells me and says I'm synced to another library.
I suspect all i need to do is say Ok to the new library but am not sure what will get deleted apart from media content.
Will it remove SMS messages/e-mail or only music/videos etc?

The music library is separate from the backups on the phone. Launch iTunes without the phone in the dock, then choose Preferences from the menu. Click on the Sync tab. If it shows a backup of your iPhone then your SMS messages and other non-music items should be OK.

Syncing to a new computer should give you the opportunity to replace the exisiting contents with the new.

Can anyone help me

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
