Copy pie chart to Indesign

I need to copy pie charts created in Illustrator into an indesign doc. I've done it before. But now,  coopy/paste to Indesign doesn't work. What am I missing.

"Paste" just doesn't seem to have anything to paste.
I have a pie chart in Illustrator, can click on it and see individually-selectable slices as I need. But if I click on copy and try to past in the Indesign document, I have nothing. Am I somehow not selecting the chart correctly?
No, I dn't get any message.

  • When copying a Pie Chart from one Excel tab to a new Excel tab, the chart data is still referring to the original table

    Hi,
In Excel 2007, I have a pie chart on sheet 1. I want to make a copy of the pie chart from sheet 1 and past into sheet 2, and change the table data in sheet 2 to get new chart recalculated based on new table values in sheet 2.
However, the chart in sheet 2 is still pointing to the table data in sheet 1.
All the cells in sheet 1 have relative cells.
    Please advise.
    Thanks - Bijan

    Hello Wind,
    As teylyn suggested:
"An Excel chart is hard-wired to its data source. You can copy and paste a chart to a different sheet and it will still refer to the initial source data."
So I did create the template and used in my 2nd tab which worked perfectly. However, I had an issue with merged cells which I am using for my data, and tylyn suggested that I provide the excel file that I am working with, and I did.
So now I need help as how to make merged cells work when I try to create a pie chart from template based on new data (which reside in mergerd cells).
P.S. I cannot resize my cells to make the data and labels fit into one call, so I have to have merged cells.
    Thanks

  • Copied a chart as picture in Excel 2007, but picture size goes out of whack in InDesign

I copied a chart as picture in Excel 2007 (selected as shown when printed), but the picture expands across the whole page when I paste into Indesign. Pls help

To place an Excel chart, first convert it to PDF. Then place the PDF file in InDesign.
Copying objects from Excel isn't reliable.

    below is my query:

    select job,sal,

  • Illustrator CS5 won't save pie chart

I created a pie chart in Illustrator 5 using a much-loved Veerle tutorial ... drew a square, entered my data, created pie, applied gradient colors and a 1 pt white stroke between the pieces. Hit save, and got this message: "Can't save the file." That's it. No reason, no funny sequence of numbers and letters denoting an error. Thought maybe my gradients used too large a spectrum of color, but even after I applied plain colors I got, "Can't save the file."
Is this a version 5 glitch, or am I doing something wrong? The workaround was to enter data and create the pie only, then move it to InDesign for the remaining steps. But, if anyone knows why I couldn't save a color pie chart in Illustrator, I'd appreciate knowing, too! Thanks.

I'm having similar problems, and can't seem to find any answers online anywhere - though I am seeing comments elsewhere that indicate I'm not alone. This thread is the closest I've come! I'm hoping somone can shed some light on this. (I  am working in CS5 as well)
I've created my pie charts, and then cannot do anything else (except change the data numbers).  I would like to do a 3D effect - and can't, all of my menus are grayed out. I couldn't even expand or un-group if I wanted to. I can't copy, paste or delete the charts either.
I've been using illustrator for many years, and haven't come across a problem like this before.

  • Creating charts in Indesign vs. Illustrator

I'm asking more for opinions in this post. I have just upgraded from CS2 to CS3 today. I have a large yearly publication that has roughly 40 pie and bar charts in it. For the past three years I have created the charts in Illustrator and "edited" them from the previous year, rather than fully recreating it because the sizes remain basically the same, saves time, etc. I just change the colors and data and import the eps files into indesign.
I am seeing that there is some sort of script for creating charts in Indesign (note that I am not knowledgeable on Scripts). Do you believe it to be better to create the charts in Illustrator and import them into Indesign or to create them directly in Indesign? I wouldn't want to get halfway into this huge project and realize the script could take twice as long OR not know that I could save tons of time by using the script.
    Any opinions are appreciated!
    Thanks! :)

    Thanks!!
    Questions:
    1. Are AI files transparent? I often have background photos on the page to lighten up the heavy data in the report so I don't want a white box around the chart.
    2. There won't be any problems importing an AI vs. EPS? I always assumed you couldn't import an AI file...that it needed to be converted. Not sure if that's my assumption or if I heard that somewhere along the line.

  • Pie Chart Dimensions

When I select the Pie Chart tool and click/enter the dimensions in the fields, for example width: 80 x height: 80mm, the pie chart is created at 69.691mm.
Why does the a pie chart never appear at the dimensions enter into the width and height fields?
Is there a preference somewhere that I'm missing? I have a lot of pie charts to produce at exact sizes and this is a bit of a pain.

That’s just the way Illie’s primitive graphs work. They need some serious re-thinking.
The best thing you can do is to scale the pie to the size you want. If you need to create other pies in the same size, make a copy of the first one and then change the data.
It is indeed strange that the Transform panel doesn’t work on graphs.

  • Pie chart created in edge animate changes to a square animation when imported into dps

I Have created an animated pie chart in edge animate and all works fine.
I then import into indesign and again all looks fine (even though at this stage it is a flat image) but when i export for dps and preview folio etc the animation turns from a circle to a square.
Anyone have any pointers or experinced the same problem etc?
    Cheers

The top image is a screen shot from edge and what it should be like, and the bottom image is of when you preview it in dps
Also when i view this in browser via edge animate and then preview it seems fine and as you can see on the bottom image when i import the oam into indesign again it is fine but then when I come to preview my 'folio it turns the animation from a circle into a square.
Also if its any help, the animation works perfectly if exported by epubs and viewed through ibooks.
    Thanks,

  • Pie Chart not showing

    Hi
I'm trying to display a pie chart in the WAD, I have a query associated to my Data provider, but it doesn't display properly. I'm running WAD 3.x and support package 7.
I tried to use different charts and it seems to display my results fine.
Any ideas why this is happening?

    MIcelle,
Te issue might be with the way the data is structured in the query..
Copy the data onto a separate sheet and then generate an EXCEL pie chart and change the table structure till you get the format of the graph as desired , now all you need to do is get the quer in the same fomat and you should be good to go.
The graph on the Web depends on the IGS , for Excel , it is based on Excel's charting engine and has not much to do with notes.
    Hope it helps..

  • Xcelsius Present - Pie Chart Does Not Display

I am evaluating a trial copy of Xcelsius Present and I am having trouble with creating a Pie Chart. I have imported my spreadsheet and have made my data selection, but the pie chart does not display. I have used Crystal Reports in the past and have never run across the problem.  I have tried to create and import a new spreadsheet with the data needed for the pie chart, but I have the same problem with the chart not loading. This problem does not occur with other charts that I am creating.
Can anyone make a recommendation on what to do?
    Thanks.
    Anita

I'm having the same problem with the Xcelsius Present 2008 evaluation copy (5.3.0.0).
No matter how pie chart data is formatted, there is nothing displaying.
I'd like to know whether this is a known bug or whether this is only in the eval copy. This would prevent me from buying the product.

  • Issues converting Pie Chart to 3D

    Hello all,
I am having issues within Illustrator CC.  I created a Pie Chart and found a tutorial on how to convert it to 3D.  Unfortunately whenever I Extrude and Bevel it, nothing happens.  I turn preview on...no change.  Nothing I am doing will convert it to 3D.   This works just fine on a copy of CS6 I have on a different computer.  Is there a setting that is off or something?
    Thanks

That's odd. I was able to see the 3D effect applied to the graph fine on my end. Did you forget to select the pie chart before applying the effect?
If that's not the case, can you try resetting preferences (Adobe Illustrator * Setting preferences) or perhaps launch Illustrator in a new user account and see if that helps?
    Let us know!

  • Problems pasting pie chart from Numbers into Pages table

    Hello,
I'm trying to paste a pie chart from Numbers into a table cell in Pages 09 but it doesn't allow me. Would you know why?
    Thanks,
    Pedro

Probably because it is a smart object connected back to the Numbers document.
If you want it purely as a graphic, try copying the chart in Numbers switching to Preview.app and going command n which will make it a pdf file, then copy that and paste that into Pages. But it will no longer be a live chart.

  • I need help making a pie chart

Hello, hoping for some help with making a chart that will update as i continually input data
I have a chart that has many columns logging details of win/loss records. I would like to make a pie chart that represents a set of columns and shows the ratio of wins for each of the columns.
I will try and give some better details. There are 5 columns (j,k,l,m,n) and each represents a color. In each column there are check-boxes. 1 or more will be checked on each row. On the same row there is a tally of wins. each row represents a different day. What I am looking for is a pie chart that shows how many wins i have in each color.
    for example.
    nov 1st: 5 wins in color J
    nov 2nd: 2 wins in color k
    nov 3rd: 4 wins in colors m and n
the pie chart will contain a total of 15 'wins' split up on the chart between each color....... 5(j) + 2(k) + 4(m) + 4(n). theoretically the J should take up 1/3rd of the pie and so on.
I also have a total at the bottom of the colors column, but this will not show which color got the wins.
Hopefully this makes some sense to understand and if I am very fortunate someone much smarter then me will be generous enough to help me out.
Thank you very much, all help is appreciated.

    Hi Anthony,
This table may be  what you want. I added a row at the top (you don't need that row. It is just may way of getting around the poor screen shots in this forum).
I hid some columns, then I copied the table and pasted directly into this reply (I have had it with screen shots ).
    A
    F
    J
    K
    L
    M
    N
    Date
    Wins
    Colour J
    Colour K
    Colour L
    Colour M
    Colour N
    Nov 1
    1
    TRUE
    Nov 2
    1
    TRUE
    Nov 3
    2
    TRUE
    TRUE
Checkboxes show as TRUE (not a tick) in this pasted table. But a tick = TRUE .
Formula in F3 (Wins, Nov 1)
    =COUNTIF(J3:N3,"=TRUE")
I hope this helps with your pie chart.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Grow/Animate Pie Chart

I've searched high and low on how to do this and can't find anything. Here's the scenario - Lets say you have a pie chart and you want to animate it so that you have 2 sections both at 50%. But you want to show 1 half of the 50% starting at 20% then growing to 50% then the other half can grow to fill the pie chart. There's no way to make one half go from 20% then grow to 50% with out it being made into 2 different sections- it makes it a separate set/section and different color. Same thing with bar graph, you can't make the same line animate to grow higher. There doesn't seem to be a way to append on to the same bar.
It's late and I may not be very clear, if so just let me know and I'll try to rephrase it.
