Copy portlet
Does oracle portal support copy portlet like that of available in IBM portlet?
Hi Ray
Is it possible for you to delete and recreate page 2 ? If yes, delete page 2, and copy page 1 to page 2, and be sure to check the box that keeps portlets personalizations ...

Bug in copying of pages???
In Portal 10.1.2 (and also 9.0.4), when copying pages from one folder to another with the options "Copy Access Control" and "Copy Portlet Customizations" enabled, the pages are copied without error messages, but after that, all customizations and access settings are lost!
This makes copy functionality nearly unusable!
Does anyone encounter the same effect? What's the reason for it?hi eckhard,
i tested this in 10.1.2.0.0 and it works fine on my system. the ACL information is copied correctly accross. it seems as if this is a special problem on your system. i suggest opening a service request with oracle support services to analyze the problem further.
to open a service request please go to metalink.oracle.com

Merging two portlet.xml
Hi,
I have a portal application which has a portlet.xml. For this application we added weblogic shared library which includes another portlet.xml. There was a conflict due to two portlet.xml files. I have manually copied portlet entries to form one portlet.xml. This works fine. Is there any other solution to merge (not manually) the two portlet.xml files ?Hello,
Spring configuration files aren't going to get merged by default; I can list out configuration files that are merged, but it won't help you in your case.
The merging mechanism isn't extensible by end-developers, so it isn't going to be possible to modify it to merge the Spring config files. Many configuration files, such as the portlet.xml file (and, I believe the Spring config files) cannot be automatically merged because the schema for the configuration file is incompatible with automatic merging-- it isn't that it can't be merged, just that the process can't be automated because details of the implementation must be taken into account when the files are merged-- details which only the developer knows.
So unfortunately, I think you will have to merge your Spring configuration files manually.

My application portlets don't appear in the liferay portal ?
I'm trying to use liferay portal with a jsf project already created on another machine.
I installed the liferay successfully on Tomcat Apache 5.5.
I followed all the installation steps from the liferay website & they're all successful, i tried (http://localhost:8080) and it ran successfully.
Now came the step of importing my app in liferay ... I've put the (*.war) file of my app. in (webapps) folder in the liferay folder .
I also created (lportal) mysql db & imported the previous portal db in it, & edited the connection file to it in liferay(ROOT.xml).
Now i ran (startup.bat) for liferay .... liferay starts successfully in the browser but empty .... no portlets !!
Only the portlets names appear but no portlets at all(except the liferay default portlets).
When i try to access any of the portlets of my app. in the browser, the following error appears in the console :
WARN [com.liferay.portal.service.impl.PortletLocalServiceImpl] Portlet not found for 182 portlet1Name_portlet_WAR_myappName
WARN [com.liferay.portal.service.impl.PortletLocalServiceImpl] Portlet not found for 182 Portlet2Name_portlet_WAR_myappNameI tried this with liferay v(4.2) & v(4.3) and they give the same errors.
am i missing something here ?
If you need any other information, just ask me...Thanks RahulSharna .... i already sent a post to the liferay forum community ... but i didn't get any helpful response yet .... & i've to solve my problem as soon as possible.
Okay .... I found that i was having a problem in the deployment folder (Thanks yo you) ... & i fixed that.
To test things are okay i downloaded (1) of the liferay server portlets, installed it, then show it using (Add Content) and it worked perfect ..... So there's no problem with liferay itself.
Now i tried to download my own portlet war file just like the previous step .... when it started deploying it, it showed that exception in console & it didn't work :

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, I'm having a bit of trouble
using the EBCC in a multi-developer environment with version control.
There are 3 main problems I see that make adoption of it difficult, and
hopefully they can be addressed in a ".1" version of it:
1. Format of XML files virutally prevents proper conflict resolution
with CVS. See my previous post on the subject.
2. When you sychronize, EBCC grabs every file in the application
directory and every file in every subdirectory and tries to parse it and
send it off to be synchronized. It does the same thing during
validation. This is problematic and has already caused me problems in
the following cases:
- CVS meta-directories screw up the validation.
- temp files or other "droppings" from CVS or text editors (e.g.
emacs backup file) are parsed and sent off to the database (fortunately
failing most of the time).
Why is it even looking at files it doesn't know about? This could
easily be solved by giving all EBCC files a common extension (either
.xml, or .portal or .ebcc or something) and using a simple
FilenameFilter to read in the files (as opposed to just reading
everything), or better yet, have a "project" file that details all the
files that EBCC needs to worry about and have it ignore the rest. The
existing system of using different extensions for different files
doesn't really add anything because of how the directory structure is
organized (e.g. you have .portal files in the Portals directory. The
.portal doesn't add any information, and could just as easily have been
.xml)
3. The organization of the XML files/information in the EBCC. This is a
bit difficult to explain, so I'll describe a scenario:
I have two portals: "fooportal" and "barportal" deployed under one
enterprise app called "portal" (thus fooportal and barportal are
webapps). I create a portlet in fooportal called BlahPortlet. This
portlet is supported by files in the fooportal webapp (the JSPs that
implement it) and by a .portlet file in the Portlet subdirectory within
the "portal" application directory inside the ebcc location. Now, when
I begin to edit the barportal portal in EBCC, it shows me that
BlahPortlet is a portlet that I can assign to barportal. I do so and
synchronize. All is successful. I go to barportal and BlahPortlet
isn't displayed, because BlahPortlet's supporting JSP files arne't there.
OK, what does all this mean? It means that a portlet is really scoped
to a portal (i.e. webapp) and not to an enterprise app. Why does EBCC
present it otherwise? Why does EBCC store portlets outside of a webapp
(the Portlets subdirectory is NOT within a webapps subdirectory; all
portlets for all webapps show up here)? This makes version control
difficult, because in your enterprise app, you have a nice distinction
of scopes: one directory per webapp (i.e. portal). This makes it easy
to deploy different portals inside different enterprise apps. On the
EBCC side, however, it's a problem. Because you have files from two
different portals in the same directory. What if I have two different
portals that each have a portlet named "BazPortlet", but that (excecpt
for their names) are totally different? This will obviously cause a
problem. This is not to mention that a user of EBCC who doesn't know
the architecture of the webapps deployed under the enterprise app has
the ability to place portlets on pages and successfully synchronize,
resulting in a totally broken application!
Possible solutions to this:
- Just make portlets scoped to a portal/webapp and not to an
enterprise app. This would require changing the ebcc directory
structure and some no doubt painful changes in EBCC, but it would
prevent users from deploying a portal that just doesn't work
OR
- Make portlets truely enterprise app scoped. Require your portlet
configuration to specify the webapp where it lives (currently, it
assumes it's relative to whatever webapp is requesting it). This way,
you don't have to copy portlet JSPs to each webapp where you need them.
Additionally, if someone wants to make a portlet and sell it to
application integrators, they have a nice, standard way to distribute
it: a .war file. You plop it down in your enterprise app, add it to
application.xml and it's deployed.
Anyway, these are issues my team is about to face, and our development
environment/process will be less than ideal because of this. #1 is the
most serious, IMO, but #2 and #3 I would say are close.

for this in house (you will be able to filter in/out documents). We will
document how filters are written and supply a simple REGEX matching filename
filter. If you have other suggestions or requirements I would be interested
to hear them.

use the XML Schema of the document. This gives use much more flexibility and
makes the coupling between the client side and the server side much looser.
It also provides versioning information for the the server side services.

and may be reused in many different user interface configurations or
scenarios (read - WebApps). You can think of the portlets at the enterprise
level as comprising a library of available resources, you then pick-and-mix
the ones you need for your Portal UI (WebApp) and deploy them. An enterprise
may develop portlets for HR, stock admin, dental plan, medical plan, change
tracking etc. and yet deploy multiple configurations of portals that only
use some of the available portlets.

want the current model to impose unecessary deployment or configuration
problems.

Copy as jsp break up links in portlets?
for accessibility reasons we have to create a page in the normal way, but than have to copy as JSP to edit the HTML to get a good layout.
Doing so we find that portlets keep links to the original page! Is this correct?
Worse links dynamically generated by portlets refer to original page and not to JSP.
The original page is: GESTBANDO
The JSP is: home

Copy page without items but with template portlets
I'm working on portal 10.1.4 and I have a page to which I have applied a portal template and a style. The template has 2 portlet regions, where I have some "simple" portlets like a search and a change language, and another item region where the users can insert their documents. So, I want to copy a page that has this portal template and has some documents that have been inserted in 2007. The idea is very simple: the new page has to be exactly the same as the one copied but I don't want the items because now we are in 2008 and I want them separate from those from 2007.
But it seems like I'm asking too much from the portal:
- if I select "Copy Content" then I will have a new page exactly the same, with the documents too, which I don't want
- if I do not select "Copy Content" the items are not copied but neither the portlets from the portal template ... the regions from the template are there but they are all empty, and the properties of the template are saying that the same template is used.
What can I do? How can I copy a page with all the properties and with all the portlets of the template but without the items? What workaround do I have to do for this simple request?
Thank youThis is what I wanted to avoid, to do programatically the copying. In my opinion my request is not something out of the ordinary and I was expecting that one of the portal tools will help me do it and I will not have to implement it myself.
So basically you are saying to me that there is no other way than implement the coying myself? -

How do i include a calendar portlet from groupspace in my portal
hi all
i have created a portal web project and create a portal,
the domain created for the portal is normal portal domain without the groupspace/collaboratio facets,
now i want to include a calendar portlet into my application where users of my portal can use that calendar to schedule their activities,
What do i need to do integrate calendar portlets into my portal?Biren,
If you want to use calendar portlet, your domain should support the groupspace Framework configuration.
Here is steps(WLP9.2):
(1)Create a domain which support portal and groupspace(Check the groupspace checkbox).
(2)In workshop:
Create a portal EAR project(Select Collaboration API and Collaboration portlets App from weblogic portal Collaboration facet)
Create a portal web project(Select Collaboration portlets Checkbox from weblogic portal Collaboration facet)
Create a data project(if required)
(3)Now open the merged projects view in the workshop.
(4)From the portal webb project copy the portlets folder.
(5)Now create a .portal file and keep the calendar portlet on the portal file.
You can use all the Collaboration portlets(Email,Tasklist, calendar,Address Book,Discussion). It needs same configuration for every one.
In weblogic portal 8.1.4 you need to manually run the SQL scripts and update web.xml/weblogic.xml but in 9.2 while creating the domain configuarion it does all the necessary task.

Creating link to other Portlet's Header links
I would like to have a link, in a HTML Portlet or someplace, to the 'Customize' or delete ('x') on a portlet's header. This way the user can click my link directly instead of searching for the portlet and clicking the Customize link there.
I can do it by copying the shortcut for the Customize and pasting it into my HTML Portlet, but this will only work for me, because it has my IDs in the URL.
How can I find the link to use for the other Portlet's headers that any user can use?
Thanks,
GaryThe user identity is not included in the portlet customization URL (it comes from somewhere else). The approach you describe works just fine.

How to suppress blank line in top and end of portlet
I created one small report (portlet) however when i execute this one; i remarked there is one blank line in the top
and another one at the end of the report. How can i eliminate these lines. I need this space to be able to see
a lot of information in the same page.
I use portal 3.0.9.2After developping a lot of portlet and read a lot of TAR on metalink and a lot of message on OTN i discovered the solution.
Wnen you create one report with the wizard there is no way to erase the first line ( header ) in the result.
Second for the last line of the results ( blank line ) ; the problem is with netsacpe 4.75 ( no problem with internet explorer )
with Netscape you will see one blank line and not with internet explorer ( confirm with Oracle support )
Anyway in the place of developping one report with the wizard ; you can copy and paste your sql statement of your report
inside one dynamic page and control all you want.
I will give you one example than i created; i hope it will help other persons like me
( we need to read a lot of thing to do something really simple with portal )

UI Template - How can I place a portlet application link?
I've seen this error mentioned in several other questions posted but with no real solutions. "ORA-06502.
- Unexpected error encountered in wwv_ui_template.show_unstructured_preview
(ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small)"
We use Oracle Portal 3.0.8.2.
I tried to cut the size by using JS source files but my template size was still way to large at 22kb. I'm trying to had to the banner a navigation menu which was dynamically created. The part that I need to condense in the template is the menu bar which is an application portlet. I need to know if there is a way to link a portlet within the template.
We would prefer not to have to add this menu bar portlet to every page by adding it right to the template.
Thanks for any assistance.Hello,
I don't know if this will help you. The way that I got around the limit, at least as far as for a dynamic sql page is by putting the JavaScript code in a stored procedure using the htp.print option. Then I call the procedure using <oracle> </oracle> tags. This seems to work well, although it was a pain to format. These are the manual steps that I used to convert my JavaScript to an Oracle procedure (affixes the htp.print syntax):
1) paste code into microsoft word
2) replace tabs with spaces
3) copy code
4) paste code into microsoft excel (column b)
5) highlight column b
6) replace ' with '||''''||'
7) populate column a with htp.print('
8) populate column c with ');
9) replace " with '||'"'||'
10) copy contents
11) paste in notepad
12) select all
13) paste in microsoft word
14) replace tab with ''
Hope this helps.

Getting Error when trying to deploy Portlet Application on WebLogic Server
Hi,
We have a WebLogic server installed on a Windows machine. We created a new Domain, extended it with ADF Runtime and with Web Center Framework. It created three servers for us along with the already existing AdminServer, WLS_Portlet, WLS_Spaces, WLS_Service.
We created a portlet Application on our development machine using JDeveloper. When we run it from JDeveloper it runs as expected without any errors.
We created a Deployment profile for the application as an EAR file. Then we copied this EAR file over to the machine on which WebLogic server is installed (deployment machine).
On the Deployments screen of the WebLogic Server Console, we selected "Install", selected the EAR file we had created above, selected "Install as Application" and then selected the WLS_Portlet server on which to install it. Then we just kept clicking Next and Finish.
The first time we tried it, we got a NoClassDefFound exception for some class like JAXRPCServer. We did some research and found that to fix this issue we can put the containing .jar files of the classes not found into the public_html\WEB-INF\lib folder. We tried this for the above error by placing "wsserver.jar" file into the lib folder. Then we got anothe NoClassDefFound error. We again searched for the containing .jar file and put it into the lib folder. This continued for around ten to twenty errors and now we are stuck at a point where we are not able to find a way out.
The current error that we are getting is NoClassDefFound: oracle/security/jps/internal/policystore/GranteeFactory. We searched for the containing jar of this class and found it to be jps-internal.jar which is already present in our lib folder. The stack trace of the exception is:

Any help would be appreciated on this since we are stuck at this point and have no idea to get across this hurdle.
One more thing, this is the first time that we are trying to play with WebLogic or even Java. So, some of our questions or steps performed might seem irrelevant here.
Thanks,
GauravHi,
Another update on this issue.
To remove the error that we were getting (java.lang.LinkageError: Class javax/xml/transform/Source violates loader constraints), we tried some searching around and found out that the way to fix it is to provide correct versions of xalan.jar, xml-apis.jar and xercesImpl.jar. We downloaded the required version from the apache site and added it to our WEB-INF/lib folder in the WAR file.
Now, we are getting this error:
XPathFactory#newInstance() failed to create an XPathFactory for the default object model: http://java.sun.com/jaxp/xpath/dom with the XPathFactoryConfigurationException: javax.xml.xpath.XPathFactoryConfigurationException: No XPathFctory implementation found for the object model: http://java.sun.com/jaxp/xpath/dom
What else we might be missing in our libs or do we need to check some other configurations?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gaurav -
