Copy-protected apps and databases

How can I unlock copy-protected databases (eg calendar) in my Tungsten E2?
Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Do you have private records enabled?
If you do, you will need to unlock those records.
Open Security:
a.Go to Applications, and then select Prefs .
b. Select Security.
2Select the display option for private entries:
a. Select the Private Records pick list.
b. Select one of these options, and then select Done.
Show
Display private entries.
Mask
Cover entries with a gray mask; you can see the mask onscreen, but you
can't see the content of the entry.
Hide
Make private entries invisible.
You can also set the levelof privacy from within
certain applications. Open the Options menu,
select Security, and then select the level of privacy from the Privacy pick list.
See if that may help.

Do not create a new iTunes account... accounts cannot be merged.
Install iTunes on the new computer.
Syncing of iDevices does not import content to a computer, the sync is one way from computer to iDevice.

  • Copy Protected CDs and iTunes - long but important

Hey all, I didn't search all the posts but I haven't seen much mentioned about this topice so I thought I would bring it to your attention. If this is a repeat, I apologize.
The basic issue is this: some new CDs (especially from Sony) have a program on them that loads on the computer and will only allow you to load the songs as WMA files. This happened to me when I bought a copy of Switchfoot's new cd. It says right on the back that it will only work with Media Player but hey, I wasn't paying attention. Apparently this is not an issue is you are using a Mac.
Anyhow, you cannot load these CDs into iTunes and therefore cannot load them onto your iPod. This has created a huge controvery over on the Sony boards and if you follow the link I will give you, you can see it. Switchfoot is a very popular band and a lot of people got hammered over this. I was lucky enough that my Christian store took the opened cd back after I explained the problem and I had to download it from the iTunes store. You lose a song this way but what can you do. I guess the new album by Cold Play is the same way but I am not a fan so I can't be sure.
If you follow the Sony posts, when you get to the 6th page (I think), one of the members of Switchfoot posted and gave us a few ways to get around this. If you have NEVER put one of these copy protected cds into your drive, you do not have the software on your computer yet. He describes a program you can download and then use it after you put the cd in the drive. If you have inserted one of the cds, the little program is hiding somewhere on the computer and that fix will not work.
You can copy it to Media Player, burn it to a cd, and then load it to iTunes. But.........here you are making copies of copies and are going to lose sound quality. How much and will it be noticable, I have no clue.
Someone on the board said Sony is aware of the uproar and will have a version of iTunes that will be able to import these cds sometime in November (it is actually Apple that is doing I would guess). It all started because Apple refuses to give some kind of code to the large labels so they made the copy protection so iTunes will not recognize the cd (no matter how many time you put it into your drive......believe me I tried over and over on Tuesday until I found the Sony boards by doing a Google).
If this is news to you all, I am glad. If a repeat, sorry but I wanted to make sure all iPod owners (especially those of us with PCs) to be aware of this. There is a small alert near the spine of the jewel case that says "Copy Protected" or something like that and then on the back on the bottom it talks about only being able to use in Media Player.
Some who pre-ordered the disk online did not get the cd with the protection and apparantly some got some copies in retail stores that didn't have it also. I looked at all 400 copies the Christian store I bought it from had and they were all protected. Switchfoot is a Christian rock band but have had tremendous success crossing over into the rock genre.
One last thing, I guess the Dual Disk version will work in iTunes., at least that was the latest I had read.
Here is the link to the Sony Board on this topic and if you all can't find the one post about how to get around this, let me know and I will find it and post it here for you.
    http://forums1.sonymusic.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/716102313/m/1331071454/p/1
Good luck. I don't know how to make the links work on this board but you can copy/paste it into your browser window.
Hope this helps some of you,
    Mike

After using Macs for a number of years at both school and work, I finally ordered an iMac G5 of my own. When the DualDiscs came out I bought a few because I wnated all the content I could get. Attempting to play them on my iMac at work however, proved problematic. The audio side would spin for a few seconds then eject. I was slightly annoyed, but settled for playing the DVD audio versions of the albums as I worked. In my car stereo, the audio would work, but any other player it would not.
When my personal iMac came, I expected the same problem- only the DVD side would play. Imagine my surprise when every DualDisc I attempted to rip (Switchfoot, Bruce Springsteen, Rob Thomas, Ben Folds, The Wallflowers, Oasis, David Gray) in iTunes was read and successfully ripped.
So I wonder this- is it as much a problem with older Superdrives not being able to read the thicker discs as anything else?
    Or am I an anomaly

  • Differences between client copy with sap_all and database copy

What's the difference between client copy with sap_all and doing a database copy.
I know if I do a database copy from Production to our Quality system.
I need to install the license key
restore the production library to the quality library
    Initialize TMS and so on.
I know if I want to copy to our Development system. I would need to run either a remote client copy or and export/import since I cannot do a database copy because I would loose all my other clients in Development.
My question is, if the quality systems and the production systems are on the same support packs, same kernel.
What does a database copy give you (besides being faser) that a remote client copy or export/import of a client copy does.
    Any differences
    Thanks
    Joe

    Hello Joe,
If there is inconsistent Z tables between QAS and PRD, remote client copy could fail, especially when the table on PRD has longer length or more fields than the one on QAS.
Also the source client should has no-activity during the client copy, otherwise the application data could be inconsistent. For example, some material documents are copied, but not the corresponding financial documents. (For PRD client, it could be hours between the times those tables are copied.) For database restore, it is rarely an issue.
    Best regards,
    Victor

  • The iPod and Copy Protection

This may not be the place to post this comment but I can't find a better place for it in the iPod area.
Recently, a friend told me of his experience with a new iPod he purchased at an Apple Store. The salesperson actually told him how to transfer music from one computer to another via an iPod which later enabled him to easily download over 5000 songs from a friend's Mac to his new iPod and then copy the music to his own computer. All the music transfered without a problem except for that which was purchased from the iTunes Music Store.
If this iPod workaround to copy protection exists and Apple knows about it, why hasn't Apple done something about it? I realize it is up to the individual whether or not they commit the crime of stealing music, but if the iPod makes it this easy then Apple should quickly find a way to prevent it.

This isn't any hidden secret. All iPods can be put into Disk Mode and used to move data from one place to another.
You're not circumventing any copy protection, because there is no copy protection on the tracks you are moving. As you said, his purchased music will not play. Those are the only protected tracks.
That said... what's being done is still not entirely legal.
By law, you're not really allowed to have music on your computer or iPod that you don't own a license for. Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should do it.

  • Copy friend's app and authorize with my account?

    For example.
i want to play Fifa14. I buy the Fifa but but not download it because my speed is very low.
My friend have Fifa14. Can i just copy his app and authorize the app with my account (since i have bought the app earlier)?

No. It needs to be downloaded when logged into the iTunes Store with your Apple ID.

  • Synicing apps and music please help mee!

    hello all,
this all started a few months back i cant rember how many but i found out i could shop on my ipod for apps and music etc.. anyway i hardly ever used the pc for anything even charging cause i have a wall charger in my room so i kinda have gotten used to not shopping on the itunes store on the pc. well a few days ago i decided i better stop being lazy so i pluged in my ipod touch to shop on itunes and well i asked a question and it got anwsered so i transfered my apps and music stuff into the pc so i can shop well when i got to the apps part of my itunes menu on my ipod info it has apps and stuff underneath it faded? so theres this little tick box thing beside it so i click on it and this is what it came up with (i copied it all out everything you see is what it actually said)
"are you sure you want to sync apps? all existing apps and their data on the ipod "mins ipod" will be replaced with the apps from this itunes library"
i dont want to click on it before i ask people so my question is does anyone know what i should do?
    please help me!

Syncing to a new computer or iTunes will erase the content of your device and replace it with the content of that iTunes.
To make sure that your settings, data and apps are transferred to your computer, back up manually and restore from that backup afterwards. Here's how to do.
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes with the same account. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How do i copy my apps that i have downloaded to another computer?

I have downloaded a number of apps to a pc and synced a number of ipads (16) to this machine. I have now bought a charge and syncing cabinet and wish to copy my apps from the pc to a macbook air to sync and add apps more efficiently to up to 32 ipads. How do I copy the apps and any other necessary info from my pc to the macbook air?

You locate the applications in the Windows Explorer, move them to the Mac as you would any files, and then drag them into the open ITunes application window, or connect the iPad to the Mac and use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes, or log into the iTunes App Store with your existing account and freely redownload them.

  • ITunes copying same songs and apps every sync

Every single time I sync my iPhone 4s (iOS 6) to iTunes 11 (OS 10.6.8) it copies the same songs and apps to my iTunes. Like right now it says "Syncing Danielle's iPhone (Step 5 of 5)" and right below that "Copying 8 of 10: MC3" (which stands for the app, Modern Combat 3). No more than 5 minutes ago I was syncing my iPhone and it was copying that app (it takes forever too because it's a big file). All I changed was adding some calendar events on my macbook in iCal then I wanted to sync it again real quick and it's copying all of these files again that it just did.
One of the problems could be that I have it removed from my iPhone but it's still checkmarked in iTunes? I can't see how that would be practical though. I would think that if I deleted a song on my iPhone, or deleted an app, that when it connected to iTunes next it would make a note that I don't want it on my phone anymore. Anyone know the source of the issue?

Some other program is interfering with itunes saving its database file.
    iTunes Library.itl
This is really common for Sony Vaio users running Vista. Either disable the Vaio's music service program (VCFw.exe), or uninstall it, as Evert Yntema chose to do.
    See this post
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8545376&#8545376
And for folks who don't have a Vaio, the next biggest culprit is security or backup software scanning the itunes folders. You need to configure
    Norton/Symantec
    McAfee
    Kaspersky
    ESET NOD
    IObits
    Windows Live OneCare
    Carbonit
    Mozy
or whatever software you've got installed to ignore the itunes folder or specifically, that ITL file.
If you're getting tons of TMP files, something is interfering with itunes saving the ITL file. A workaround is to same that ITL file to a different folder or USB drive just before you close itunes.

  • WHEN I TRY TO OPEN ITUNES ON MY PC IT SAYS THE THIS COPY OF ITUNES IS CORRUPTED OR INSTALLED INCORRECTLY AND TO REINSTALL ITUNES. I DON'T WANT TO LOSE MY APPS AND MUSIC AND DON'T KNOW FOR SURE HOW TO REINSTALL IF I SHOULD.

I AM TRYING TO OPEN ITUNES ON MY PC BUT WHEN I GO TO OPEN IT, I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE AND IT SAYS ``THIS COPY OF ITUNES IS CORRUPTED OR IS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. PLEASE REINSTALL ITUNES.``
I `DON`T WANT TO LOSE MY APPS AND MUSIC AND I ALSO DON`T KNOW HOW TO OR IF I SHOULD REINSTALL ITUNES. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.

Your library will be preserved through reinstalling. Backup anyway.

  • Password protecting mail app and permanent deletion of emails so they don't appear in spotlight search

I realise that there is a temporary way to prevent this happening by unticking the 'mail' option in the spotlight search settings menu, but how do you permanently delete the emails? I assumed that when I hit delete then emptied the trash box, the mails were gone for good. But finding that they remain stored in some hidden place and can be easily accessed is very annoying! In fact, finding that other users can quickly change the settings back and have free access to my email is rather disturbing anyway, especially as there is no way to password protect my email account once i activate the mail app. the apple mail app is linked to my yahoo account, but within yahoo mail there seems to be no problem in regards to deleted mail being stored somewhere else, only within the apple app system.
So i guess id like to know, is there some way to password protect my account or do I just need to keep deleting my account before lending the ipad to someone else and then reinstating it? And is there any way to properly delete emails for good?
I would be happy just to go without the mail app and log in directly through yahoo in Safari, except that I find the notification alert when I receive a new mail very handy!!

[edit] I dragged the email I sent through the MBP Mail app (under MAILBOXES > Sent > Yahoo!) to the highlighted Sent folder (YAHOO! > Sent), and now it shows up on all Yahoo Sent folders (iPad app, web browser, phone app). Not entirely solved the issue but will use web browser to sent future emails to keep everything in sync.

Hi. I habe one old ID and now i have one new ID. The old one is bad , because the Email not working. But i hav a lot of Apps and i want to copy this apps in my new ID. How can i do this?

You don't. Apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them. Instead of creating a new ID, change the primary email address on your existing ID.

  • We have two iPod touch 2nd generations, one had to be restored a few days ago and is now not able to have some of the apps back on it saying that they are incompatible with the iPod. Is there any way to "copy" the apps from 1 to the other??

Is there any way to get an older version of the app that can be compatible or to "copy" the app from one iPod to the other?
Or maybe to update the opperating system??

you can by downloading iTunes to your computer/laptop but before plugging it in to the computer make sure all of your apps are on it then just sync the restored iPod to your computer and all of the apps on the computer will go to your iPod.. Good Luck
