Copy Protection and ROM Contents

Will basic Copy Protection mangle ROM Contents (like a zipped folder with exceutable and other files)- when dragged from mounted DVD to users desktop - or does Copy Protection only act on the video?

A client of us had mastered a dvd with dvd access on it.
Mastering company replied that this can cause a problem when producing big numbers. It had to do with the fact that there is dvd rom data on the dvd?
Next to that , the movie starts very slow after pressing a button. ( the mastered one) 10 to 15 seconds.
The one they burned themselves was perfect.
Any ideas? I Think this is a good addition to this subject.

Copy Protected CD-Rom

I am a new media developer creating an interactive CD-Rom for a client. The client has requested they need the CD-Rom's to be copy protected in order to stop piracy of their software. The CD-Rom will be developed for Mac & Windows using Director MX 2004. I have created interactive CD-Roms for both platforms before, including a triple platfrom (OS 9) interactive CD-Rom. I was wondering if there is any solution to be able to prevent copying the disc on windows and mac, not just windows. I found a dozen products on windows that claim to prevent copying of the CD-Roms, but nothing for Mac. I want to develop it all on the Mac, not the old PC, it is only for testing. I also need to burn it on the Mac in order for the CD-Rom to work properly on both platforms. I can do all this with toast.

nevermind, fixed it myself. downloaded the gear drivers.

which i think, and i could be wrong, should be included in a release that is brand new if they are needed to make the program work correctly.

Copy Protect when I try and create a DVD

Help please. I created a movie using FCE 1.0. I then "printed to video" to capture the final movie on a Sony Hi8 Camcorder with Firewire. I then tried to create a DVD by connecting the camcorder to a Philips DVD Recorder using the standard RCA jacks. The recorder shows the message "Copy Protected" and will not record the movie. Is this a setting within FCE or the content?

Really not sure about this, but I doubt it's anything to do with FCE. Is it some copy protection built into the DVD recorder? I.e to stop you copying DVDs. Does the DVD Recorder normally work with this jacks? Is there any other way to connect to the recorder?

I am having problems opening a copy protected cd file

I am trying to open a CD which contains mainly PDF files and is copy protected but somehow it doesn't open and doesn't even appear anywhere on my computer. I have managed to access it through the Disk Utility and foun the CD on hidden folder volumes, but when I try to open the disk the folder inside it appears for a few seconds and disappears, as if the disk was blank. I suppose that it has to do with the copy protection, since the content appears to be in the disk.....If someone could please enlighten me on this subject I would appreciate very much, because I really need the files on this CD with kind of a hurry! Thank you!

On the Mac open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to: Documents & Data then reselect it.
On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Documents & Data off then back on.
Give iCloud a minute to re sync the data then try opening that document on either your Mac or iPad,

SIMS 2 not working because of copy protection?

I have just bought the Satellite M60 Notebook which should have everything requested to play The Sims 2. I installed the program but when I want to play, a window appears "This program has caused an error and is shutdown". I read on another page that this may be because the DVD-Drive has a copy protection and shuts off the game.
Is that the case? I have legally purchased and paid for the game and am really annoyed that it doesn't work. Is there a patch or something to avoid this? I have the newest direct x version.
It is the only game I play but what when my kids want to play a game and the DVD-drive shuts down my legal products? I am not at all satisfied with the drive anyway because it is loud, slow and does not recognize all of my CDs and data-DVDs.

I wonder how did you install this game (program) on the notebook if the drive cannot recognize the medium?
However, I dont think that the problem with your game occurs because of the drive copy protection. I have never heard about such protections on the Toshiba notebook drives.
In my opinion the error message This program has caused an error and is shutdown" occurs because of the software issue. I think you should ask the game manufacturers for support. Maybe he knows more about the own product error messages.

Copy Protected CDs and iTunes - long but important

Hey all, I didn't search all the posts but I haven't seen much mentioned about this topice so I thought I would bring it to your attention. If this is a repeat, I apologize.
The basic issue is this: some new CDs (especially from Sony) have a program on them that loads on the computer and will only allow you to load the songs as WMA files. This happened to me when I bought a copy of Switchfoot's new cd. It says right on the back that it will only work with Media Player but hey, I wasn't paying attention. Apparently this is not an issue is you are using a Mac.
Anyhow, you cannot load these CDs into iTunes and therefore cannot load them onto your iPod. This has created a huge controvery over on the Sony boards and if you follow the link I will give you, you can see it. Switchfoot is a very popular band and a lot of people got hammered over this. I was lucky enough that my Christian store took the opened cd back after I explained the problem and I had to download it from the iTunes store. You lose a song this way but what can you do. I guess the new album by Cold Play is the same way but I am not a fan so I can't be sure.
If you follow the Sony posts, when you get to the 6th page (I think), one of the members of Switchfoot posted and gave us a few ways to get around this. If you have NEVER put one of these copy protected cds into your drive, you do not have the software on your computer yet. He describes a program you can download and then use it after you put the cd in the drive. If you have inserted one of the cds, the little program is hiding somewhere on the computer and that fix will not work.
You can copy it to Media Player, burn it to a cd, and then load it to iTunes. But.........here you are making copies of copies and are going to lose sound quality. How much and will it be noticable, I have no clue.
Someone on the board said Sony is aware of the uproar and will have a version of iTunes that will be able to import these cds sometime in November (it is actually Apple that is doing I would guess). It all started because Apple refuses to give some kind of code to the large labels so they made the copy protection so iTunes will not recognize the cd (no matter how many time you put it into your drive......believe me I tried over and over on Tuesday until I found the Sony boards by doing a Google).
If this is news to you all, I am glad. If a repeat, sorry but I wanted to make sure all iPod owners (especially those of us with PCs) to be aware of this. There is a small alert near the spine of the jewel case that says "Copy Protected" or something like that and then on the back on the bottom it talks about only being able to use in Media Player.
Some who pre-ordered the disk online did not get the cd with the protection and apparantly some got some copies in retail stores that didn't have it also. I looked at all 400 copies the Christian store I bought it from had and they were all protected. Switchfoot is a Christian rock band but have had tremendous success crossing over into the rock genre.
One last thing, I guess the Dual Disk version will work in iTunes., at least that was the latest I had read.

After using Macs for a number of years at both school and work, I finally ordered an iMac G5 of my own. When the DualDiscs came out I bought a few because I wnated all the content I could get. Attempting to play them on my iMac at work however, proved problematic. The audio side would spin for a few seconds then eject. I was slightly annoyed, but settled for playing the DVD audio versions of the albums as I worked. In my car stereo, the audio would work, but any other player it would not.
When my personal iMac came, I expected the same problem- only the DVD side would play. Imagine my surprise when every DualDisc I attempted to rip (Switchfoot, Bruce Springsteen, Rob Thomas, Ben Folds, The Wallflowers, Oasis, David Gray) in iTunes was read and successfully ripped.
So I wonder this- is it as much a problem with older Superdrives not being able to read the thicker discs as anything else?
Or am I an anomaly

Content protection and sync button

I have been trying to download an ap to my phone for 3 days. Every time I try I get the message that my device has content protection and I should turn it off. Where do I find this and how do I turn it off, please?
It also tells me to click the sync now button, there is no such button visible on either the phone or the PC, where do I find it and how do I click on it, Please?

OK, then please try this sequence (again, solely on your device, with WiFi coverage, and no tether to PC/USB).
1) Remove AppWorld from your BB

If it requests that you reboot the BB, do so
2) Do a Batt-Pull reboot (power on, remove battery, wait, insert battery, wait), even if redundant to the one you did in step 1.
3) Install (on your BB) a fresh copy of AppWorld

Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.
4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot
5) See if it now works.

Protect ROM Content

any way to Protect ROM Content? I know I know...just about everything is cracked. But how about adding protection to a ziped folder (or anything) on the ROM layer- that requires a serial number from a list of sequential serial numbers we issue to registrants?

Adding a protected zip archive file would work fine. Anyone could copy the file off the DVD but only those with the password could open it.

Do you have private records enabled?
If you do, you will need to unlock those records.
Open Security:
a.Go to Applications, and then select Prefs .
b. Select Security.

Sharepoint 2013 copy/move operation using Content and Structure fails

Hi,
We had a recent upgrade from SP2010 to SP2013 environment. After the migration, we realized that the
copy/move operations using Manage content and structure(sitemanager.aspx) is not working as expected, neither does this give any error nor is it stuck. In fact if I check the content and structure log I find the message as
succeeded but file/item is not copied to the target.
The strange thing is that if I am performing this operation with Full Control permission level it
does not work but if I do the operation as Site collection admin it works without problem. I know if sub-sites are to moved then one should be site col admin but in this case I am trying to move just documents or pages.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

According to your description, my understanding is that copy/move operation using Content and Structure cannot work in SharePoint.
I recommend to check if there are any custom fields in the source list/library and target list/library. If yes, delete the custom fields to see if the issue still occurs.

To copy or move files/items between sites, we need to have
appropriate permissions on both sites.
I recommend to check if the user has full control on both sites.

My Fantom backup drive is failing. I want to copy the time machine contents to a new backup drive and continue on as if nothing has happened. Can I do this and if so how? I have intel iMac running Mountain Lion. Fantom Drive via Firewire 800.

My Fantom backup drive is failing and I have to send it in for warranty repair. Before I do that I want to copy the time machine contents to a new drive and then use it for the backup, continuing on as if nothing had gone wrong with the first drive. Can I do this? Is it as simple as duplicating the first drive and replacing it with the second? New drive arrives Tuesday PM and both drives have dual firewire 800 ports.

I have used the Disk Utility to verify the contents of the backup drive so I don't think I have any corrupt files. The drive just takes a minute or so to spin up to speed. If I turn it off and then back on, it beeps at me for a few seconds and then starts it's slow process of trying to spin. I think it's a power problem not a data problem. I have my fingers crossed that it holds on until Tuesday PM when the new drive arrives. I'm thinking that my two options are to duplicate the bad drive or partition the new drive and put the old backups on one partition and start afresh on the second partition. Any input?

PSE9: How do I move/copy an Album and its contents from my PC to my laptop?

I am using Windows 7 and PSE 9 on my PC and want to get a copy of the album and its contents to my Vista laptop running PSE 9 without changing anything on the source PC. Anyone know how to do this? I know I can move the files through Windows Explorer on my network but I have already gone through the trouble of putting the best photos into an Album and would like to simply move the Album over and not have to go through the trouble of recreating it.

You will need to copy the files.
1. Make a new folder on your laptop
2. Open Organizer, select your Album then press Ctrl+A to select all photos
3. Click the Fix tab and choose Full Photo Edit to open the album contents in the editor
4. Click File >>Process Multiple Files
5. From the drop down menu (Process files From) choose Opened Files
6. For destination click the browse button and navigate to your new folder on your network and click OK
7. Make sure Rename and Resize is unchecked but check Convert files To and choose Jpeg Max quality or whatever you prefer then click OK and wait for Elements to finish.
8. Go to your laptop folder to see your images.

DVD-ROM Contents Not Copied to DVD

I have created an iDVD slideshow of pictures from a trip. To include the pictures, including ones not in the slideshow, I used <Advanced-Edit DVD Contents...>. Using <Project-Project info...> I can see from the size of the project that the files are in fact included.
I then <File-Save As Disk Image...>. However, the final DVD does not have the extra files on it. It only contains the iDVD slide show.
What am I missing?

The disk image you created will have the DVD-ROM content.
How did you burn the disk image to writable media?
I ask because I recently did exactly what you did with a slideshow in iDVD. When I used Roxio's Toast Titanium 8 to burn the disk image to writable media, I failed to notice an 'Option Selection' block of information at the lower left of the Toast interface that had a box that says 'Use Fit-to-DVD Video Compression'. It seems to be selected by default and is very easy to miss. The disk I wrote did not have the DVD ROM content. I then used Apple's Disk Utility and everything was fine. I then when back to Toast and noticed the box I mentioned. When the box was unchecked, Toast also produced a 'good' DVD.

I cannot see why DVD @CCESS and DVD-ROM content are not working properly

Hi,
I am very new to DSP, and I know I am missing a piece of the jigsaw, but I do not know what it is. I used a tutorial from creative cow to try and make the @CCEESS function work, but no dice… for now at least. When I did a build/format (to the HDD) everything went fine. I mounted the image, and I could see the DVD @CCESS folder and the DVD–ROM content on the DVD image. When I went to play the image, the button did not work. The content I am trying to use with @CCESS is a PDF file.

As Eric said - DVD@ccess is really not that useful. It was a way to get documents like PDFs to automatically launch in the application (like Acrobat) when watching a DVD on a computer. Since they can't launch on a set top player the technology was already limited. Then the whole issue of getting it to work on a PC arose - it simply wasn't reliable. I managed to produce one disc that was replicated with @ccess links, but I knew the parameters for it's use in advance and managed to get it to work. It doesn't work on modern machines.
For a while there was a Sonic app which was much better at getting this sort of thing to work, but you had to work on a OC to set it up. Sonic pulled the app shortly after I bought it (sigh) and never replaced it. The fact is, automating document launches and web links is actually pretty tricky on a DVD, the results were variable and it never really enhanced your discs like you wanted to think it would!
If all you want to do is include a PDF file on the disc, and alert viewers to it being there, you only need to use the ROM content functions not @ccess, and you can use a menu screen to give instructions to people to let them know how to find it.
