Copy statement in Oracle 8.1.6

Hi all,
I want to copy records from one database to another database. the following statement works in Oracle 9i
where as not in Oracle 8.1 .
SQL> copy from abc/xyz@a to def/qqq@b insert T1 using select * from T1
the erroe is ORA-00928 Missing SELECT Statement .
will copy command in Oracle 8i works same as Oracle 9i?

hi,
I am using Oracle 8.1.6 client and
copy script is :
copy from a/a@abc to xyz/xyz@x insert ps_lm_adhc_lrn_tbl -
using select * from lm_adhc_lrn_tbl_uk where -lm_person_id is not null -
and lm_per_trn_st_dt is not null and lm_per_trn_ed_dt is not null and -
lm_per_trn_nm is not null and lm_requestor_id is not null
error message is :CPY006 select list has more columns than destination table.
I am sure that both table strudture and number of columns are same and same script worked when i was using Oracle 9.2 client.
rgds,
Karna

• Homogeneous System Copy on Windows/Oracle.

Hi!
I have to start a project on Homogeneous System Copy on Windows/Oracle.
I have gone through the System Copy documents by SAP and also verious SAP note (spl. 659509 ). But still I am not really clear about the whole process.
As per my understanding, as follows :
1. Export the Database from Source Host. <b>But HOW? Wheather I have to use any System Tool from SAP ?  </b>
<b>Copy that to Target Host.</b>
2. <b>Install the CI in Target Host. As I am working on SAP 4.7 1.10 (SR1) with Kernel 6.20  (NU).</b>
3. At the time of installation of DI in Target Host give the path of Exoprt fileset.
My question :
<b>1. Wheather my plan is right or needs change?</b>
2. What type of copy it will be :
a) Homogeneous System Copy using Online / Offline Database Backup.
b) Homogeneous System Copy using R3LOAD Procedure.
c) Homogeneous System Copy using R3COPY Procedure.
<b>3. Do I really need to download/order any system copy tool from SAP?</b>
My Source :
SAP 4.7 on Windows 2000 with Oracle 8.1.7 with noarchivelog mode.
Terget :
SAP 4.7 on Windows 2003 with Oracle9.2.0.8
All Kernel : 620 (NU)
Looking for an urgent solution.
With Kind Regards,

Hi! Umesh,
I have found 2 errore .
1)  ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 2560 in tablespace PSAPTEMP
2)  DbSl Trace: ORA-1403 when accessing table SAPUSER
Two things I want to mention here.
1.  I donot know the passwd of datadase users of Source . I have used different passwd for Target DB userd.
2. Used defferent SAP SID. Source : ID4 and Target : IDN
Is that cause any harm?
Here is the detail logs of those two files.

• Adding a field to an sql statement in Oracle Reports error ORA-00933

We have been requested to add a field that already exists in the table referred to by the sql statement in Oracle Reports Builder. The report was set up by a consultant about 3 yrs ago and we don't really have much skill in this area. What is happening when I try to modify the SQL statement, either adding a field or deleting a field to the SELECT statement, causes an error message preventing the statement from being saved. The only way out of the error message is to click Cancel. The error message is
ORA-00933:SQL command not properly ended
ORDER BY Program ==> NAME
Even adding or deleting a space anywhere in the SQL statement causes the error (not adding any new fields). A coworker found that if we comment out the ORDER BY, the statement will accept the new field in the SELECT section, however then we lose the order by functionality. I would like to add one additional field before the FROM. Not sure if any additional data are needed. Thank you.

Hi Denis,
I tried your suggestion. The good thing is that adding the comma allowed me to be able to add a.campus to the select statement, unfortunately, another error message happened.
ORA-00936: missing expression SELECT p . person_uid PIDM_KEY ,
p . id_number , p . full_name_lfmi name , p . BIRTH_DATE , p . GENDER Sex ,

CASE WHEN : P_group_by = 'PROGRAM THEN a I started over and tried only putting in the comma and get the same message even though I didn't add campus. After that, removed the comma which led to the ORA-00933 error message. So once again, I had to close the file without saving, in order for the report to run at all.

• R/3 System Copy PRD -- QA Oracle 9

Hi all,
We need to perform a system copy of Production back to QA (4.7/6.40 kernel). My previous experience with a system copy was on a 4.6C system with Oracle 8 using R3COPY. I have just downloaded the latest system copy guide 'Homogeneous and Heterogeneous System Copy for SAP® Systems Based on SAP Web Application Server 6.20' and for Oracle it says that backup/restore method is not recommended or support and to use R3LOAD. We are not keen to use this method as it requires a longer Production downtime for us (more than twice what would be required for offline backup), also we would need the space available on the disk.
Has anyone still used the backup/restore method as described in the 4.6C system copy guide with Oracle 9? I don't see why this method is not supported since for us it would be much easier.
Thanks
- Natalie

Perhaps this notes can be of help:

On this notes you can find other interesting refering the same issue
Not much into system copies with the new tools, but I think it is possible to use backup/restore.
The only thing is that you will have a little "mess" -> the tablespace name will have the old "SID", same happens with the schema. Unless you have installed the system with this issue in mind and used a "neutral" schema, the note is ( I think )617444

• Case Statement in Oracle Query.

Hello Oracle Gurus,
I need suggestion on whether I should use Case statement in Oracle queries.
I have a sql statement which inserts the data by selecting data from other table. While selecting the data I have put a logic in the select statement for one column which is something like this and there are some more similar statements in the same query.
CASE
                   WHEN (b.ACCOUNT = 'FIN' or b.ACCOUNT ='FIN ACC' or b.ACCOUNT like '%Global Eq%' or b.ACCOUNT like '%Flexible Bond%')
                   THEN
                        'MTM'
                             WHEN (substr(a.CTC,-3)='MTM')
                   THEN
                        'MTM'
                             WHEN (substr(a.CTC,-3)='AFS' or substr(a.CTC,-3)='HTM' OR substr(a.CTC,-3)='ACC' OR substr(a.CTC,-3)='HFI' )
                   THEN
                        'ACC'
                   ELSE
                                  'OTH'
              END,
I wanted to get an suggestion about how much performance issue can I have due to this in my insert statement.
Let me know if you need any other information.All comments are really appreciated.

Hi,
It's depends on the joins how you have performed with source table, stats and existing of indexes. If the volume of data is high - in case of any performance issue - why can't you perform the required things of logical conditions of data and popualte in one cluster so - that you can fetch out the chunks of required information with better way and in support with indexes.
Let us know the ful query your working on
Oracle version
Explain plans - get it from dbms_xplan.

• Copying text from Oracle Applications Window to other Application windows

Hi All,
I am not able to copy text from oracle applications windows to my other application windows.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Amit

Check in your organization who is able to copy the text. Then from that user machine, who is able to copy text, copy identitydb.obj file and copy to your machine (overwrite the current one)
Then clear its jcache and browser cache one time. From that point forward they can connect to both instances. This is accomplished as follows:
1. On each Client PC, you will need the new instance 1 (TEST) version of this identitydb.obj file located C:\Program Files\Oracle\identitydb.obj (default location )
2. Clear Jinitiator jcache : On the client PC delete all files found in c:\Program Files\oracle\jinitiator 11727 Export\jcache
3. Clear browser cache:
a) Netscape : Edità Preferencesà Advancedà cache and delete Memory Cache and Disk Cache
b) Internet Explorer : Toolsà Internet Options à delete Temporary Internet Files
For any further assistance pls. feel free to ask.

I can't used the update buil in of forms as I want to update in a table which is not mentioned in the property pallete of data block
please help

I just wrote a procedure
PROCEDURE update_current IS

update table abc set xculumn= :block_name.item_name2 where ycolumn = :block_name.item_name1 ;
commit;
and I called the procedure from a when button pressed trigger
it gave an error invalid identifier abc ( which is table name)
pls help
I am trying to do it with form_ddl(update_query)
but here I am facing another problem
I have update_query = 'update table abc set xculumn= ' || :block_name.item_name2 || 'where ycolumn = '||:block_name.item_name1
now since xculumn and y column are varchar type so I suppose while preparing the query I have to concatenate single quotes ( ' ) at the start and end
but i am facing problems in doing so
please tell me an alternative way or how to concatenate single quotes in the above update_query variable

Assuming you have an oracle OS user on Linux you can try typing sqlplus at you OS command prompt. Generally you will have a .bash_profile with setting like this:
# User specific environment and startup programs
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
export PATH
# Oracle Settings
TMP=/tmp; export TMP
TMPDIR=$TMP; export TMPDIR

• Need help converting Excel IF statement into CASE WHEN statement for Oracle

Hi,
Hope someone can help I have tried various ways of getting this to work, to no avail!
Bascially I have some figures that are minus figures, and I need to add them together to get a movement figure, but I need to treat the minus figures as minus, if that makes sense, rather than the usual... a minus and a minus makes a plus.
For example:- Budget Figure = -1% and Actual Figure = -68% so the movement needs to be -69%.
The IF statement I have been using in Excel is the following:-
=IF(FO110<0,(FP110-(IF(FO110=0,1,FO110)*-1)),FP110-IF(FO110=0,1,FO110))
Which when using the figures as above = -69%
Cell FO = The Budget Figure
Cell FP = The Actual Figure
However, when I created the CASE statement in Oracle, the figure in the query comes back as -0.67, which is oviously not what I want to happen when both actual and budget are minus figures; however when they are a minus and a plus, it works perfectly fine.
Any help on this would be most appreciated!
Kind regards,
Annmarie

Happy I did'n mess something up :)
Nevertheless, don't show it too much around because
case when budget < 0
         then actual - case when budget = 0  /* will never happen */
                            then 1           /* will never happen */
                            else budget
                       end * (-1)            /* -budget * (-1) remains only */
         else actual - case when budget = 0
                            then 1
                            else budget
                       end
endso at least try the following (if case is more readable as decode for you). Let's hope it works as I don't have a Database at hand
case when budget < 0
         then actual + budget
         else actual - case when budget = 0
                            then 1
                            else budget
                       end
end Regards

how to copy customer in oracle applications in R12

When I copy (as in original example) 4 cells in Excel, the exact 4 cells paste correctly in another Excel, but on my web it post the 4 cells and then clear the cell below it. So the same data in the clipbord paste correctly into Excel, but incorrectly in the web.
When I copy (as in original example) 4 cells from the web, the exact 4 cells paste correctly into Excel, and it then post correctly on my web solution.
So, in summary this is what I find:
- Copy from web and paste to Excel = no problem
- Copy from web and paste to web = no problem
- Copy from Excel and paste to Excel = no problem
- Copy from Excel and paste to web = problem (first cell below pasted data get cleared)

Seems like you want to convert a SQL statement from the ??? dialect to the Oracle dialect. *(It would be useful to indicate the non-ANSI standard SQL you are starting with.)
Part of the problem is that you use several date related functions. Some are unnecessary in Oracle and some need to translated into Oracle functions as found in the Functions section (chapter 5) of the SQL Reference manual at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
Note that columns and expressions of type 'date' in ORacle always contain all of "yyyy mm dd hh mi ss" and you need to format and trauncate as necessary.
Also note that '09-JAN-31' is NOT an Oracle date, but rather a character representation of a date which must be converted to/from a date expression. You will often need to use the to_date() and to_char() functions with a format mask as the second parameter. This is also descreibed in the first 2 chapters of the SQL Reference manual.

• Maintaining persistent client state in Oracle 8.1.6

I'm running Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows NT 4.0.
What are the methods to maintain the state of HTTP session (variable values, maybe transaction state) between the requests of the same user, in other words, how can I maintain HTTP session state in Oracle 8.1.6?
It's preferable to avoid using cookie, but I'll be very grateful for any advice.
Thanks in advance, Alex.

Here's my Javascript Code for writing the Cookie (adapted from www.webmonkey.com):
Htp.p('<script language="JavaScript"><!--
function SetCookie(){
if(document.cookie=="")
{var t_ck="cotavalor=p_cliente:'&#0124; &#0124;to_char(t_new_CV_Cookie,'9999999999')&#0124; &#0124;'";var t_date=new Date("December 31, 2050");var t_ck_date=t_date.toGMTString();
t_ck=t_ck+";expires="+t_ck_date+";path=/";
document.cookie=the_cookie;}
else {return false;}}
//--></script>
<script language="JavaScript"><!--
SetCookie()
//--></script>');
Now here's my PL/SQL code for reading it:
t_cookie := owa_cookie.get('cotavalor');
Simple. I had to write that Javascript cause the Functions provided by Oracle didn't seem to work at all, while the Javascript version works easily.

• Cancel long running statement in Oracle Lite (OLITE_10.3.0.3.0 olite40.jar)

On JDBC statement, there is the method 'cancel' to instruct the database to cancel an executing statement. This works fine on Oracle server database, but not on Oracle lite database. The method call 'cancel' just blocks and the running statement is never interrupted.
The example I tried is very simple. There is a thread started which executes a long running statement. I noticed, that when moving the cursor forward by calling rs.next(), it just blocks. That would be ok, if the statement could be canceled from within the main thread by stmt.cancel. But this call blocks as well with no implact on the running statement. Why is that? Do I miss something or is it not possible to cancel a long running statements in Oracle Lite?
In the following my code snipped:
public class CancelStatement {
         private static final String PATH_DB = "XX";
         private static final String PATH_LIB = "XX";
         private static final String CON_STRING = "jdbc:polite:whatever;DataDirectory=" + PATH_DB + ";Database=XX;IsolationLevel=Read Committed;Autocommit=Off;CursorType=Forward Only";
         private static final String USER = "XX";
         private static final String PASSWORD = "XX";
         public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
              System.setProperty("java.library.path", PATH_LIB);
              Class.forName("oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver");
              Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(CON_STRING, USER, PASSWORD);
              Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
              Thread thread = new Thread(new LongStatementRunnable(con, stmt));
              thread.start();
              Thread.sleep(3000);
              // stop long running statement
              System.out.println("cancel long running statement");
              stmt.cancel(); // XXX does not work, as call is blocked until out of memory
              System.out.println("statement canceled");
         private static class LongStatementRunnable implements Runnable {
              private Connection con;
              private Statement stmt;
              public LongStatementRunnable(Connection con, Statement stmt) {
                   this.con = con;
                   this.stmt = stmt;
              @Override
              public void run() {
                   try {
                        System.out.println("start long running statement...");
                        // execute long running statement
                        ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM PERSON P1, PERSON P2");
                        while (rs.next()) { // here the execution gets blocked
                             System.out.println("row"); // is never entered
                        rs.close();
                        stmt.close();
                        con.close();
                        System.out.println("long running statement finished...");
                   } catch (Exception e) {
                        e.printStackTrace();
}I would be very glad if you could help me.
Thanks a lot

Unfortunately Oracle Lite doesn't have this option. You can call your statement from a second thread as you have done, but you won't be able to kill or cancel this operation. The only way to get fix this is by rebooting. You can use process explorer to find the dll process that is executing the SQL, but the tables will be locked and sync would be locked as well until the process is finished running in shared memory.
