Copy style

Hi
Please can someone advise how I can easily copy and paste styles across slides textually on Keynote?
When I copy style in one text box to paste in another text box on Keynote (even on the same slide!), nothing happens. It is really annoying (and I imagine is relatively basic for Keynote). I noticed a support comment re customising the toolbar with copy and paste style icons though this hasn't helped.
As background, no doubt this is found somewhere and whilst I find graphically Keynote is good for making quick changes, textually it seems relatively off, as I have spent at least the last 2 days (I know!!, time management could be better) tailoring slides in Keynote and Powerpoint.

Hopefully I have answered my own question!
I expected to just select the text box and this would happen, yet I see now the text itself needs to be selected. Joy!

I knew it had to be something simple I was missing. I was able to do it in Quark, so InDesign should have a way. I can't believe I miss something so obvious (after you refreshed my mind where to look)

Bug with Copy Style?

I tried using the keyboard shortcut for Copy Style (Option-Command-C) to change the background color swatch on a shape, but it did the same thing as the regular Copy command (the Edit menu even highlighted temporarily). The Paste Style shortcut worked as expected when Copy Style was selected from the menu first.
Anyone else experience this problem, or do I just have a corrupted Keynote? I couldn't find anyone referencing it in the forums.

Same problem in Pages (and it's been updated to the latest version, too). I haven't set any keyboard shortcut changes in the keyboard preferences pane, either. Quite strange!

Difficult to say without at least a few details as to what "the style of the print and figures...has changed." A screen shot would be useful. Take the screen shot by pressing shift-command-4, then dragging a rectangle to select the part of the screen to include. This will place a file containing the picture on your Desktop.
Post screen shots by uploading them to a photo-sharing website such as Picasa, Photobucket or Flickr, then copying the HTML code provided by the website for sharing your photo and pasting that in your post here.

Best Practice - Copying styles & skin from OBIEE 11.1.1.5.x to 11.1.1.7.x

How to copy style with items added to library

New to this but I just created an htm page that I am adding
to my library so
that I can include it in other pages... Problem is, when I
select the table
and Modify/Library/Add Object to Library, the prompt tells me
that I'll lose
the formatting because the styles can't be copied into other
pages. Well,
this causes me an obvious problem because I don't want to
lose all the
formatting I setup for this page. Can someone tell me how I
can copy not
only the table, but the styles too?

For one thing, using Library items, when you should probably
be using
Server-side includes! But that's another thread....
A well-formed Library item cannot contain anything that
wouldn't form a
proper HTML page when it's inserted between <body> and
</body> on the target
page. This means it cannot contain embedded styles or links
to external
stylesheets. It also cannot contain <html>,
<head>, or <body> tags. While
it *can* contain javascript function definitions, it will
make your target
page's body code messy if it does.
Any styling that needs to be done *must* be provided by the
parent (target)
page. So, if your library item contains a special CSS rule,
that rule must
be present in the CSS linked to, or embedded in the intended
target page(s).

How do you use the "copy style" clipboard and "paste style" glue bottle?

I just know that it will seem obvious when somebody tells me, but I'm having no luck finding out how to use these tools. I keep thinking/hoping that they will work like a formatting paintbrush (in microsoft word or google docs) but that's not the case. I get that you can redefine styles thorugh the paragraph, character and list styles pull out list or menu. But a formatting brush type tool would allow more flexibility. thanks

Copy and paste style in pages

I select one paragraph, tap on Copy Style, it seems to work.
I go laterr in the document, select another paragraph, and look for a Paste Style command. Frequently, perhaps usually, it is there and works. Other times, for no discernible reason, it simply does not and will not. All I can do is Copy Style for that new paragraph, and nothing seems to work to enable the paste style function.
Does anyone have any idea of why this should be and perhaps some approach to use when this happens? TIA.

This happens to me all the time as well!
I work in Pages daily (as a professional writer no less) and virtually everytime Copy and Paste Style fails completely.
It simply ignores the request, or sometimes it changes only the font but not the color. Still other times it change steh font to anotehr type entirely!
It's beyond frustrating.
I notice also that whether or not you copy from a paragraph mark it sometimes affects it.
There is no consitency that I can find.
I will note I am using the latest Pages for the latest Lion, but my documents were imported from MS Word 2004.

Copy Paragraph Style doesn't do its job all the time.

If I have a paragraph style in pink, I will select that text, copy paragraph style and paste it onto another selection of text, turning it pink also.
Usually, if I past the style onto a selection of text in the MIDDLE of a sentence, it will turn the whole sentence pink.
Lately, pasting paragraph style DOES NOT paste what I copied (e.g. turning the sentence to pink italics or even to blue, something which I used in another document at another time).
Also, for about 30 minutes in ONE day, pasting paragraph style into the MIDDLE of a sentence only turned my selection pink, which was something I liked. Then as soon as this function came, it disappeared.

The button for Copy style or paste style is not working. So I tested it using a numbered list with paragraphs.
First:
I went to text I wanted to match to others, used the menu bar and drop-down lists for "Format" / "copy character style". Then I went to the other ordered list and selected the new text and used the drop-down list "format" / "paste character style" and it worked... Matched font, size, color etc.
Second:
I repeated the above steps but instead of using the drop-down lists on the menu bar, I used the button on the tool bar called "Copy Style" and "Paste Style". Note: in the past using these buttons has worked, I have used them all the time, but for some reason, it is now not working.
So when I did the same thing, hit "copy style" button I checked the drop-down list to see if "copy character style" was not greyed out and it wasn't. I then selected the new text to change, and hit "paste style" the button. Nothing happened but it changed the ordered list level (which did not match the original text level) So I checked the drop-down menu to see if I could even hit "paste character style" and sure enough, it was not even an option, it only had "paste paragraph style". Even though prior, when using the drop-down menu for "copy character style" the option for "paste character style" was available... So something is wrong with the buttons for the "copy style" and "paste style".... They worked in the past, and now they are not... it was just a lot easier to use the buttons versus having to navigate though drop-down menus.

Copy/paste style doesn't work for conditional formatting with cell refs

I created a conditional format on a cell (B3) that compares its value to the value of a cell above it (B2).
If I 'Copy Style' and paste that style into the cell beside it (C3), the conditional formatting still refers to B2. If I want to do this for a whole row of cells then I have to manually edit the cell reference in the conditional formatting for each cell.
Anyone else seen this behaviour? It makes me think of going back to Excel.

Don't know if you'd consider this a 'workaround' or simply a way to do what the OP asks with as little fuss as possible.
I created a conditional format on a cell (B3) that compares its value to the value of a cell above it (B2).

The desire is to have each cell in row 3 formatted depending on a comparison with the cell directly above it. If each comparison is the same (eg, Equal to), and the 'true' action for each is the same (eg. Fill with yellow), the following will save some effort:
Select the whole row, B3:G3 (or further).
Set the conditional format rule to
Equal to | B2
And the action for Fill yellow.
Click Done.
With the conditional formatting dialogue still open, select C3. You may also want to move the dialogue window up to just below row 3.
Repeat these three steps:
Click on the B2 reference in the dialogue.
Click on cell C2 in the table.
Press the right arrow to move the selection to D3.
Click on the B2 reference in the dialogue.
Click on cell D2 in the table.
Press the right arrow to move the selection to E3.
etc.

Why does 'Copy Character/Paragraph Style' work so inconsistently?

Is it just me, or do the 'Copy Character Style' and 'Copy Paragraph Style' format options barely ever work? Most of the time, I can't even USE the bloody CCS feature...it's greyed out. This occurs (for me at least) in both Pages version 1.0.2 and Pages '08. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

There are a couple of Help Pages that may shed some light on your situation. They are: _Changing the Style of Text_ and _Copying and Pasting Character and Paragraph Styles_. As I often do after reading a post like yours, I tried to duplicate the situation. Before studying the help references, I would have had the same complaint that you do. I was only successful in getting the Copy Style and Paste Style Tools to work after I applied Styles to some text in my document. It seems that one may only copy a style from a block of text that has had a style applied, and so-called "overrides" won't be copied. So, it's not a "Format Painter" in the MS tradition, as it only looks at what Style has been applied, not how the formatting may have been altered.

Why doesn't copy and past style copy the borders? For some reason it copies the style of the characters or numbers themselves but not any border formatting. Why is this?

It would be speculation to try to guess what is going on with borders when using Copy Style and Paste Style, unless you know more about what is going on than I do. Sometimes border style is Copied and Pasted, sometimes it isn't. Based on my observations, it depends on the pattern of borders. I suppose that there could be an assignment of a shared border to one cell and not to the adjacent cell, so when copying the style you may or may not capture the border style based on which cell was selected during the Copy. I don't think it is possible to Copy/Paste a Style pattern, and I can't say why.
I find that it's most efficient to create a table with the desired pattern of border styles and to Copy data and Paste and Match Style into the table. I suppose that you have noticed that when you Copy an entire table, you capture the Style of that table. So, copy the Styled table and then paste the data into it.

Keep the styles drawer open in Pages 5?

I searched a bit and didn't see anything on it. Please forgive if this has been answered. Is there a way to keep the styles drawer open as in previous versions? My workflow is to type in everything I want - as in a screenplay - and then use the arrow keys and mouse button to quickly descend the document and change the styles as I go. As in keep the mouse on a particular style (CHARACTER NAME, for instance) and then as I hit a paragraph that needs that style just click while arrowing down...
Anyway...I don't see a way to do this in the new version.

UPDATE -- I have discovered a fix of sorts. Sorry if this is obvious.
Go to VIEW / Customize toolbar and drag in "copy style" and "paste style"
you can also access these from FORMAT menu or via command-option-C; command-option-V
Use this function to copy the style you wish to apply
Then go through and paste it everywhere you want it.
Not as good as the old way, but probably more efficient than constantly re-opening the drawer..

How can I copy and paste (styled) text in JTextPane/JEditorPane?

I have a styled text in my editor and I use the copy and the paste action in JTextPane, but i am not able to paste again with previous text formatting(it inserts same text, but with logical attributes - formatting at caret/inserted/ position)
I use RTFEditor kit.
Is it possible to put information about styled text into clipboard and paste it back? Shall I simulate clipboard somehow?
