Copy to new image

Using Photoshop Elements 4.0 on Mac with Leopard, I find no convenient way to copy a selection directly into a completely new document. I must first create a new document and then paste the selection in the new document. I used to have the more direct option on the Windows program Paintshop Pro.
Am I missing something?

Does the Mac version not have the option File>New Image from Clipboard? That will do what you want.
Make a selection. Edit>Copy. File>New Image from Clipboard.

    Hi,
It's ok you don't have the CD, just go to the Start Menu > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools, and then click on
Microsoft Office Diagnostics. Run Diagnostics to proceed with diagnosis and repair.
Check if it helps after running the Diagnostics.

  • Can Disk Utility make a "New Image" from a desktop copy of a DVD?

I have not been able to get Disk Utility to make "new images" of a couple of DVDs. For one of the DVDs, it may have something to do with a hyphen in the title. I haven't a clue why I'm failing with the second of the two DVDs. (Previously, I've had no trouble with about a dozen DVDs so far.)
Several members of this discussion group recommended me to copy&paste or drag&drop the files from a DVD to a new folder (say on the desktop), and then to drag the resulting new folder into the box in Disk Utility, and then to make a disk image using Disk Utility.
(Note: While I believe the original DVDs are not encrypted, I ran an experiment to make double sure, by using MacTheRipper first to produce folders containing clean files.)
However, when I drag the new folder into the box in Disk Utility, and let go of the mouse button, then the folder does not stay in Disk Utility window, but instead springs back to the desktop.
How can I get Disk Utility to make new images from the new desktop folders?
    Note:
As a partially successsful work around:
For one of the two original DVDs - which has only about 3.7GB on it - I can sometimes (only sometimes) succeed in doing without Disk Utility simply by dragging the audio and video files from the new desktop folder onto a blank DVD, and then burning that DVD. However, in an average of about two out of every three attempts so far, my Mac rejects the new disk as unusable during the burn process.
For the other original DVD - which has about 4.36GB on it - the contents of the new desktop folder won't fit onto a blank DVD. It then gets messy - shrinking the files - so I'd like to avoid all of that by getting DIsk Utility to work properly.

For the answer, see the following excerpt from my own posting dated 2 May 2006, i.e.:
"I finally found out for myself (from Disk Utility Help) that to make a new image from a file/folder, rather than dragging the folder to the Disk Utility pane, in the top menu bar in Disk Utility you select Images/New/Image from Folder."

  • How do I copy a disk image off of a drobo onto a new computer?

I have a disk image of a bootable drive saved on my Drobo. I would like to copy this image onto a computer. What is going to be the best way to do this? Will the Snow Leopard installer allow you to simply copy a disk image onto the boot drive? Should I boot the new computer up in target mode and copy the image over somehow? Any suggestions would be welcome

Then, I surmise that the image is corrupted. If it was made from one of those MBs, then it's easier and faster to use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to just put a copy of the good one onto the other one and eliminate mucking with Disk Utility.

  • Copying new Image on 2621

    Good morning!
I have a quick, probably easy question for someone. I am copying a new IOS Image to a 2621, during the copy process I get explanation points, on occassion I get periods instead. What exactly do the periods mean? If I get periods do I need to do the transfer again? I am assuming that if it the image transfers with periods and does not error out the transfer should be successful. I have a couple of remote sites to upgrade and I am getting a couple of periods. I don't want to reload the devices if the image is corrupt. Thanks for the help!

I assume that you are using tftp to do the transfer. As the router attempts to trasfer blocks of data it provides feedback on the process. The exclamation point ! indicates successful transfer of data. The period . indicates that a timeout took place. I feel that the explanation from Leon gives the impression that if the transfer had a string of periods (or a few periods) that the transfer failed and needs to be redone. The tftp protocol can recover from a few timeouts and complete successfully. When tftp experiences a timeout it will retransmit that block of data. So if you get a few periods it may indicate that there were some dropped packets but it does not necessarily mean that the transfer failed.
I believe that Leon is right when he says to look at the end of the transfer and see whether the router is indicating ok (then the transfer is good) or is indicating failure (the transfer was not good and you need to do it over again).
If you are concerned about the transfer and if some of the routers are remote (or if the image file is large) then I might suggest that you consider using FTP to do the transfer rather than TFTP. The FTP protocol will transfer the file more quickly and in my experience is better able to deal with connections where there are likely to be dropped packets.

  • How to copy & paste an image into a new Pages document?

With the latest version of Pages, you cannot copy & paste an image from iPhoto or the web any more.
    Is there an easy alternative?
Using the toolbar alternative "Media" takes ages.
Why did Apple remove this great feature of Pages????

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

  • Possible to copy recovery set image to HD for storage?

I’m about to create a recovery set for my new Spectre ultrabook on a flash drive.  I’d like to then copy the recovery image to a drive on another PC so I can free up the flash drive for other use.  Is this doable?  I.e., if I need to restore, will I be able to copy the image back to the flash drive and have it work?  Are any special tricks involved?

    Hi,
Not that simple, copy won't work. By the way, the Flash drive for Recovery is write protected.

  • After creating a new image of my project burned from iDVD I get no audio when I import it back into iMovie HD 6.0.3

I need to edit my project after I have already burned the project. I deleted the files after being burned to save space on my hard drive. So I made a new image of the burned project with disk utility. I opened up iMovie HD 6.0.3 and imported the movie but I get no audio and the audio folder for new disk image doesn't have anything in the folder. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • Disk Utility can't repair disk...Can I still create a new image to back up?

Two days ago my computer died and I haven't been able to get past the Apple screen since. I've tried starting in Safe mode, etc. that did not work. I just started up using my installation disk and got into Disk Utility. It says it cannot repair the disk and that I should back up as many files as possible and reformat the disk.  How am I supposed to back up if I can't start up? I am currently creating a new image of the HD to an external drive but my question is if Disk Utility couldn't repair the disk, with the external drive copy also be problematic? How can I tell before I reformat the whole thing and start over?
Please help someone! I am in a little over my head!
    Thanks

I am currently creating a new image of the HD to an external drive but my question is if Disk Utility couldn't repair the disk, with the external drive copy also be problematic?
    Maybe.
How can I tell before I reformat the whole thing and start over?
Run Repair Disk on the copy.

  • Using disk utility to burn new image dvd's

Ok I just learned to burn DVD'd using Disk Utility and New image.
But I have come to halt in my burning with a new issue.
My issue is that I have a file that is 4.63GB. When I make a new image so that I can burn it, it increases the size of the file(Video TS) to 5.13GB. Making it to big for a 4.7GB DVD.
My question is is this normal for the new image file to increase in size, and is there a way for me to stop this from happening. Or can anyone give me any other suggestions. Please help.

Ok I have never tried that, as this is the first time it is suggested to me.
The reason i have been doing it via DU, is because this has been to only way to get it to play on
home DVD player and burn with the UDF setting. I was told to do it this way when I was trying to burn
copies of my nieces fifteens that was prof. done on a DVD.
I am trying to burn a copy of a movie so that it can be played on home dvd players. Yes I have done this before and the copies I burned via DU/new image, worked perfectly. And the ones I burned by just choosing file and burning it did not work.
So any help would be great.

  • Change Default Color Profile in New Image Document ?

I've looked and looked, and even Googled.  Anyone know how to change the default color profile when you start a New image file?  In CS5 mine defaults to sRGB (Under the Advanced drop down) but my CS6 is ProPhoto RGB which means I have to change it manually nearly every time I paste an image copied via right click in a web browser.

I think it the same on windows. If I copy things to the clipboard with Photoshop that the document profile seem to be used there when I do a paste there are no color issues.  However if I use Prtscn or Alt+PrtScn to capture screen content.  I'll see that the colors are wrong when I paste the clipboard into a new document if my default color space is not sRGB. Then I need to assign sRGB to the document to correct the colors.
If I paste a screen capture into the current document the color can be very off and I will not get a prompt on the color mismatch. Therefore I don't think a screen capture has any profile associated with it. And of course the screen has a much lower resolution then the images I edit. So there is also a big size difference. Here is one scaled to 100% zoom after the paste. You can see both the color and resolution difference.  This capture was assigned to sRGB so you will see what the screen looks like after the paste and zoom to 100%.

  • How do new images get placed in Dreamweaver site image folder?

    Hi,
I'm still new to this and my boss has dumped this chaotic
site onto me to fix. I'm new to Dreamweaver (MX 2004) although I
did take a course in it back in May and haven't done anything to
practice on since! This is a very different system than the kind i
used to do and used to being able to place new images into the site
image folder but haven't figured out how to do this after
researching all instructions, help menu and book, etc. What am i
    missing here?

    > and used to being able to place new images into the
    > site image folder but haven't figured out how to do this
One way- place them in the folder you want manually from the
    desktop. Open
the folder and put them there.
    Another way- within dreamweaver.
Insert the image. If it's not already within this site
    folder, dw will put
up a dialog box asking you want to copy the image to the site
    folder.
If you've picked a default images folder in this site
    definition, dw will
copy it. If you haven't picked a default images folder,
    you'll be shown a
"browse to file" dialog box and you manually pick where to
    save the file.
(unless you've already put a check in the "never show me
    this again")

  • Copying member("aTextMemb").image into a rect in an image that uses alpha

Hi all. I'm currently developping a strategy game with Director, and one of the things I've run into is that i want to update the number of units I have in a panel (on initial game setup) via 1) updating a text member that holds the number of units left to setup and copyPixeling the image onto the panel. This I've acheived except that since my text member image doesnt have alpha originally and the panel is semitransparent, a white (no matter the bckgrnd color I set for the text member) bounding box appears in the final result. I guess the way to go is duplicating the text member image and make it a 1 bit mask image then using the apropiate imaging lingo command (dont remember if it's copyPixels or another at this point). Imaging lingo is very interesting for me since normally I built all my aplications using the score directly (15 years exp with Director). This is my first game where I mostly rely on parent scripting and in some situations imaging lingo.
This is currently the handler that does the job. It: 1) stores the image of the text member "panelCount" 2) defines the destinatiion rectangle where it will be copied in the panel bitmap and 3) copies it (but as I said the correct alpha is missing).
    on updateUnitsDisplay me
      member("panelCount").text= string(pPanelUnitCount)
-- we retrieve the image of the text member that stores how many units left in the panel
      _textImage= member("panelCount").image
bottomMargin= 20 -- distance from the bottom of the panel that we want the text to be
      _left= (sprite(me.spriteNum).width- _textImage.width)/2
      _top= sprite(me.spriteNum).height- bottomMargin- (_textImage.height/2)
      _right= _left+ _textImage.width
      _bottom= _top+ _textImage.height
      destRect= rect(_left, _top, _right, _bottom)
      pPanelMember.image.copyPixels(_textImage, destRect, _textImage.rect)
    end updateUnitsDisplay
Your proposals and thoughts are welcome (specially good ones )
EDIT: I've said above that my textImage wouldnt have alpha originally. Well, i think that was wrong according to what I've found in he scripting dictionary under the image() section "When you create a new image object, the background color defaults to white (color(255,255,255)), and the alpha channel is completely opaque (color(0,0,0))."
On the other hand, the paramList in the copyPixels command should do it I think (a matte can be defined, also and ink mode for the copied pixels can be used although my first experiments have not worked yet).

I think I got it. The paramList in the copyPixels command has been enough to get rid of the white box around the text (using #ink: 36 which is bckgrnd transparent in it), the problem was that I was using the same white for foreground and background colors in the text member (been some time not using director and misplaced the false white I used to use in these cases in the color selector). Bottom line, dont use exact same color values for back and fore colors of the text member. I've observed also that using the alpha of the image (useAlpha= true) makes it well antialiased while not using the alpha does produces a bad image of the text (btw, the font of the text is an inserted text media element of course). I keep investigating
