  • ITunes could not copy "" to the iPhone "" because an unknown error occorred (-50).

This is a very annoying problem. I've followed everything by the books and cannot figure it out.
I'm getting the warning     iTunes could not copy "[Song Name]" to the iPhone "[Phone Name]" because an unknown error occorred (-50)   and don't know what to do. I've followed Apple's guildline - http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1539 - of uninstalling, reinstalling, reregistering .dll files, restoring the phone, updating the phone, making sure the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" option was not checked, etc. Does any body have any idea what the issue is here? I just did all of this after updating iTunes to 10.4 and my iPhone 4 to 4.3.4 and am running Windows XP. I've had the issue for about 3 weeks - it occured both after reformatting my PC's hard drive and installing iTunes 10.3 (I know others had issues with 10.3). ANY help would be amazing. Thank you!

    Hey Edward,
This is most likely a USB speed or connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a USB 2.0 port.
To find out if your computer has USB 2.0, enter your computers serial number on this web page: http://support.apple.com/specs/

  • Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurrred (-51).

I apologize if this issue has been addressed before, but I’m pretty well at the end of my rope here. As mentioned in the title, the message is:
“Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred (-51)”
I have tried resetting my 20G iPod, as well as re-downloading and running the iTunes and iPod installer. If I delete something off of my iPod, unplug it, and then plug it back in again, the song name is there again, but this time it has an exclamation point next to it and it won’t play the song. It plays the rest of the music fine through the computer and through my stereo (I was having some problems with it skipping to the next song in the middle of a song, but I reset it and haven’t had the problem since). I don’t want to have to restore the iPod for the simple fact that I didn’t take the time to backup all my music. That would be a pain. Also, something else I’ve noticed is that I can actually hear its hard drive now kicking in and out when it’s really quiet and plugged into the computer. I hope that I just never noticed that before.
Without having to restore, is there anything else that I haven’t tried? HELP!!

  • Help - Attempting to copy to the disk "J" failed. An unknown error occured

pls help I get the above error Attempting to copy to the disk "J" failed. An unknown error occured (-69) when I connect my ipod nano 8GB Gen 3 and try to synch. Ive got the latest Itunes software, Ive done the 5 r's, Ive tried a different USB cable. I can't think of anything else left to try, when I d/c on my computer it doesn't bring up my ipod but under device manager its there, says its working properly

This is the same thing that just happened to me. My error message reads as follows: "Attempting to copy to the disk "C's IP" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to". I've reset and restored. It still will not add the last 3 songs that I have purchased from Itunes. I have completely read the manual and can't find anything that deals with this problem. I have only had my ipod for 10 months. I hope someone can help with this.

I am simply trying to sync my son's iTouch with iTunes and I get the following error:

    Hello there, Wyrzezbiator.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some great steps for the very issue you're describing:

    Configure your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, or 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

  • Attempting to copy to the disk "Anthony's I" failed. An unknown error (-69)

Attempting to copy to the disk "Anthony's I" failed. An unknown error occured (-69) keeps popping up in an error box every time I try sync music to my 3rd gen shuffle. The amount of music and everything seems fine. Can anybody please help me with this as me and my son now have two shuffles that won't sync.

Suggests a possible problem with the source files on your computer. Check the source disk for errors and backup if you don't already do so. See HT1210: iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod for more details.
The SyncToy backup program is also a good way to identify exactly which files cannot be read. Repeated runs may succed in copying files which won't copy over on the first attempt.

  • ITunes could not copy "Song Name" to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (-50)

Recently when I tried syching one of my playlists into my iPhone 4 (Running on 5.1) using iTunes 11.2.0.26 for Windows (Windows XP SP3), I have been having a problem with some songs I acquired recently.  It will sync all the other songs, but when it reaches the song in question, the following error message pops up:
"iTunes could not copy "Name of Song" to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (-50)"
After which, it stops synching songs altogether.
I tried TWO different USB connectors (BOTH from Apple), and the error still occurs.  When I remove the song in question, ALL songs sync normally.
I used the 'Get Info' option to see if there was something in the way the song was coded.  This info is from one of the songs that gets synched normally:
    Kind:                  MPEG Audio file
    Size:                  11 MB
    Bit Rate:            256 kbps
    Sample Rate:     44.100 kHz
    Date Modified:    12/20/2009  4:33 PM
    Plays:               1
    Last Played:      1/22/2010  8:40 PM
    Format:             MPEG-1, Layer 3
    Channels:          Stereo
    ID3 Tag:            v2.3
    Encoded with:   LAME
THIS is the info on the problematic song:
    Kind:                  MPEG Audio file
    Size:                  8.2 MB
    Bit Rate:            256 kbps
    Sample Rate:     44.100 kHz
    Date Modified:    5/1/2013  6:12 PM
    Plays:               1
    Last Played:      5/3/2013  8:40 PM
    Format:             MPEG-1, Layer 3
    Channels:          Joint Stereo
    ID3 Tag:            v2.3
    Encoded with:   LAME3.96
By the way, BOTH song (The ones synching normally, and this unsynching song), where purchased and downloaded from Amazon.com.
ANY information that will help me solved this problem will be VERY appreciated.  Likewise, if you need any additional information, please let me know...
    Thanks for your time.

  • Attempting to copy to the disk 'IPOD NAME' failed. An unknown error occurre

Hi I keep getting an error when I sync my Ipod.
"Attempting to copy to the disk 'IPOD NAME' failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)."
I have a 20 GB click wheel Ipod. And nothing is working to fix it. Restoring, etc.

I don't know if you've found a fix for your problem or what exactly could be causing it, but I'm wrestling with the same issue myself.
Some say it's happens when your files are corrupted.
If you read this post -- http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=887569 -- and the subsequent replies there is a work-around to this using MusicMatch and other suggestions that may help.

  • Every iPad sync ends with - Attempting to copy to the disk Macintosh HD failed unknown error -4

I started getting failures of this nature quite some time ago, though before that the iPad synced fine. I'm trying to sync to a latest model iMac.
The iMac was set up from the backup of my old iMac which died. Not sure if that's the cause of this. I have tried the file verification process I read about on another post, but after running it to completion it made no difference to the error.
This issue has continued through each upgrade since it started happening. Both iMac and iPad are on the latest OS.

Hello, I don't find a lot of cures for that, but might see the last post here...

Re: iTunes Error - attempting to copy to the disk "Macintosh HD" failed     Nov 21, 2010 9:08 AM    (in response to cosmocreek)
When itunes 9 was released, they also offered a different way to organise media.
Instead of putting music in "iTunes Music" it gave the option of putting things in "iTunes Media/Music".
    see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3847
Try putting things in the itunes 9 organization. Do this by going to the file menu.
Select Library > Orginize Library. If you can select "upgrade to itunes media arganization". Then click OK and let it reorganize your library. If you cannot select this (becuase it is grayed out) then itunes thinks it is already using that method. In this case, try renaming your "iTunes Music" folder to "iTunes Media" - apparently in some cases itunes did not make this change, which might be what is confusing your ipod sync. Be prepared to rename this folder back to what it was in case it causes problems . . .
