Copy version in BPS

Hi all,
I have made a planning function to copy from one version to other version but when I ejecute this function it doesn´t appear the option to the user can select which versions he wants to copy.
Anybody knows how can I do it??

This might be to simple...
In your Planning function from type copy: Does the list of 'fields to be changed' contain version???
Is in the variables for version the flag <b>'Restriction of values Reqired by user'</b> set??
Are there any helpful messages if the function is executed with trace??

Budget Data is copied from one Version to another Version using Tools>copy Version option. How can you view Data copied to new Version, when you receive a message Version is successfully copied.
I think we can do that by selecting appropriate version in the version dimension while accessing the Forms or in Smart View.
Can you please let me know how to do this or different options available with this process.

Planning function to copy version A of year 2007 to Version B of 2008 - IP

I have a copy planning function which has a variable on from version and to version and it works fine.I can copy.So version to version for the same year works fine.
           Another requirement is to copy Version A of year 2007 to version B of year 2008.For this in the planning function I made version,year and calyearmonth all 3 as changeable and have variables on from version from year and to version and to year.I don't have a variable on calyearmonth.
          I run the query for version B and year 2008 and CALYEARMONTH 1/2008-12/2008 and it returns empty results as there is no data for version B for year 2008.then I execute the planning function to copy data from version A and year 2007 to version B and year 2008.I am getting the following error "CalyearMonth is not included in selection".I ran the query for 1/2008 - 12/2008.I didn't understand this.
        In the planning function filter I don't have any filter for calyear and calyear month.But it is there in the query.

Hi Siva,
Since you do not have the calmonth as the change characteristic in your plannning function.The values would be copied to year 2008 with month as #.
So there would be no values for months of 2008 and hence you are getting that error.
You need to copy the month figures also for data to be seen in the report.

Hello All, I have read the below given thread and got the answer but its two year old post and there are so many changes in planning system. Can we disable copy versions option from Planning tools menu ?
or is there any way we can limit the access to users ?

Does anyone find a solution to desactivate in SMARTVIEW the COPY VERSION menu?
I see that we can add extension (smartview > Option >extensions) ... maybe it is the way !

Copy Version Limitation

Hi Gurus
We have make data forms read only from Planning End in order to avoid any data corruption on finalized budget. But we can not stop "Copy Version" to edit the locked data. Pls advice, how can we control it. Its very urgent.

Restrict 'Copy Version' to admin only??

Hi,
Hyperion Planning and Budget - 11.1.2.1.0.83 - is there anyway to remove the 'Copy Version' functionality from users at less than Admin level, or is this functionality 'wrapped up' in a role that covers a multitude of functions such that removing 'Copy Version' would emasculate the end user??
If not, is there any supported way to customise / reconfigure what functionality the roles allow?

You might have to secure the Versions to prevent copy into them.

Planning Copy Version

Using version 9.3.1, I am trying to use the Planning functionality File->Workflow-> Copy Version to copy our final budget version to a new version to archive the budget so as to use it for reporting. I have tried several times and each time I try it runs for about 15 minutes and then bombs out. I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" in place of the Planning web page. It was run last year successfully. How do I know what's going on?

Suggestion:
If the amount of data is huge then its worth to increase the java heap settings.
➤ To change the Java memory settings for WebSphere:
1 Highlight the default server in the administrator console.
2 Enter the amount of RAM in the Initial java heap size and the Maximum java heap size fields.
Note:
You can set both values to 512 or 1024, depending on how much RAM your system has. If your
system has 1 GB of physical RAM, use 512 MB as the java heap size.
To change the Java memory settings for WebLogic:
1 Open the CMD file used to start the application server (for example, startHPServer.cmd).
2 Locate the section for the %JAVA_HOME% variables and make the setting changes shown below. This

Version in BPS

Hello Gurus.
There is a concept of version in BPS.
Q1. What is the purpose of having version?
Q2. Where do we define version? For ex: i want to plan on version 001,002,003 for different levels. Do i need to upload the version data from flat file or do we need to punch in transactional cube manully..
i am not very much clear regarding version...I would appreciate if someone thro some light on this..

I think these are readly given by SAP. If i want to create new version..can i upload the versions directly from flat file or after entering the planning data that version will come at sit in 0version object.

I have to open Task Manager to quit the Firefox process almost every time b4 it will shut down I just uninstalled & downloaded another copy/version & will reinstall again. Thought you would want to know. I am anjulz on comcast

I have to open Task Manager & quit the Firefox process manually b4 it will stop. When I did it the last time b4 I just uninstalled my memory usage was up to like over 300,000 with only 1 tab open. Just downloaded another copy/version & will reinstall. Hopefully this will stop the problem. thought you would want to know this.

The proper way to close Firefox is through the File menu "Exit" or the equivalent with the Firefox button.

New version of BPS

Hello there.
Unfortunately I have not been working with BPS for a while now and am training back up on it.
Can anyone tell me if powersim is still being used in the latest versions of BPS.
Also, how can I tell what version of BPS I am working on?
Is it the same as the SEM-BW installation version?

Hi Paul,
you can find release information on the SAP Service Marketplace http://service.sap.com/bi > SAP BW-BPS.
In all releases, you can use Powersim (not sure if all Powersim version will work, check with the vendor).

Saving indifferent versions in BPS

Hi,
I'm trying to save all changes made on a particular record.We need weekly comparision of records.
For eg:
Transaction Number - 53
Plan Revenue - 10,000
Tomorrow if the value is changed to 15,000
When i'm trying to pull all data into bw based on last changed date i'm getting a value of 25,000.which is incorrect.
Is there a method where i can capture all changes on a particular transaction for comparision purpose.

Hello Saritha,
There are two things you can do - depending on what your scenario is.
1. Only track the changes (i.e. deltas):
You crate a derivation that fills an additional characteristic in the record that holds a time stamp. If you have a value of say 10,000 and change it to 15,000 then the delta (5,000) will be saved with that time stamp. You could use a BW query to show the sum over all changes done after a certain point in time. There is a how to paper that describes ho such a derivation can be done (How to... Line items in BW-BPS).
You could also compare the "old" total against the "actual" total in your BW query provided that you set the restrictions for the key figure properly. You cannot make a comparison in the BW-BPS itself - if you exclude the time stamp from the area you will always see the overall total, if you include it you will see the single delta records.
2. Track the changed values
You could also save the changed values to a new version by running a copy function on save in your planning folder or web interface (for web interface there is a how to paper as well). You would not be able to see the deltas but you can compare the version within the BPS.
In both cases you have to be careful about the number of records.

SQL Developer Data Copy (version 1.5.5)

I was trying to copy the data values from one table to another.(Across two schemas. But the tables are the same). I exported the data values as csv and imported in on the other schema. is this the only way to do on SQL developer?. This method seems to be inconsistent. It works only for a few tables. Doesn't work for all the tables. Does anyone have an alternative solution for this?. Or can anyone give me the exact picture of what could possibly be wrong with my method?

Data Modeler 4.1 needs Java 1.8 to run successfully.
If you try to run Data Modeler 4.1 with Java 1.7 it gets stuck in "Registering Extensions", and this error appears in the console log.
When you try to start it with Java 1.7 it normally gives an "Unsupported JDK version" warning, which identifies the file that needs to be updated to refer to a Java 1.8 jdk.
On Windows, this will normally be C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\datamodeler\4.1.0.866\product.conf,
but if you start it from the console using the datamodeler64.exe it will probably use the file
C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\datamodeler64\4.1.0.866\product.conf instead.
You can edit this file. Alternatively if you delete the file, it should display the dialog asking for the location of the JDK next time.

the characterisitcs are grouped logically using the Dimensions
the use of dimensions allows data to be stored in a combination of dimension tables and fact tables
the dimention table consists of the dimension number, a primary key characteristics you assign to the dimension
the primary keys from various dimension tables link up at the fact table and to the values stored in it
so you can think of a star schema of tables with the dimension acting as the link
so when you look for a particular value the dimension table is first quesried based on which the fact table the primary key is linked to is looked up
in order to improve performance, make sure you dont assign too many characterisitics to one dimension
try to logically group the characterisitics - geography for eg can be made of state, region (not material type)
you can also try to match the dimension with the selections you will be using in the planning book,
dimension tables could grow as your characteristic values increase so SAP advices you keep an eye on it (i am not sure of how functionally you can help this but i believe basis will be able to help you with allocating space on an oversized table)
there is a document somewhere in sap marketplace that i am not able to find a link... hopefully someone will link it up here

BPS limitation of 50 rows when doing Copy Paste in BPS BI 7.0 Layouts

     The limitation is this is how many records you could enter at a time.You can
     always hit REFRESH and enter more records to save all of them at a time.If
     you had changed your UPP_FRONT_SPREADS_DUMMIES setting to 150, try
     inserting (copying) 160 records into your layout.For simplistic reasons you
     could change the setting to 2 and verify if you could enter 3 records without
     hitting SAVE or REFRESH.I would recommend sand-box for these activities.

Problem in copy version

Dear All,
i am facing a problem in copying planning version. I am selecting few products for which i need to copy data from 000 to version "A".
i have selected "copy master and transaction data" and given few products names as input parameter.
while copying, system copies all the master data of 000 version and transaction data of selected products.
Is this the standard behavior? I want to copy master and and transaction data of selected product only.

Nitesh,
The selection fields that you get under 'Restrict Orders using Location Product' refer to the copying of order data & stock. It will be applicable to the order category you specify under the 'Also copy order data & stock' check box.
The master data will be copied for all. Is this a problem for you? It should not do any harm if your master data is available in additional versions. It is only when the orders are created in additional versions does it affect system performance due to LC memory consumption.
