Copying A DVD...

A friend of mine lent me a DVD he made of various music videos. Now, I want to make a copy of it, but I don't know how.
Someone mentioned something about Disk Utility and making a Disk Image or something...
Anyway, what I want is an exact copy of the DVD that will play on my DVD player and my mac.
Is that possible?
Thanks in advance.

  • How do i copy a dvd movie to my hard drive

Can anyone please tell me how to copy a home made movie from DVD to my hard drive? I'm trying to add it to Apple tv, and it's in a TS format and I can do nothing with it. I mean, when I made it, I made a beginning, which my titles are sitting on. And I want to keep the part that is the beginning, and then be able to choose which title I want to see, but I can't get anything to copy the beginning, only copies the three videos. It's very important to have this beginning, or whatever it's called while I choose a title. I was told to copy the DVD to my hard drive, but it won't copy. Now what?
    Thanks,

    Wendy,
Sorry but copying commercial dvds is considered illegal and against the terms of use on this forum. That being said do a Google search for Handbrake. That's about all I can tell you.
    Best of luck.

  • Can i copy a dvd to the hard-drive

i have a DVD the a friend of mine burned for me but i'd rather have it on the mac so i don't have to carry it everywhere. i don't know if it's posable to copy a DVD to the mac without having to buy some kind of software.

Of course you can - if it is non-copyrighted. Right click on the DVD icon and select "duplicate" then paste the duplicate wherever you want.

how do I copy a DVD onto my macbook pro?

If it's a home DVD copy the files to the computer.  If it's a commercial DVD you don't because it's illegal to do that and also against the terms of use of this site to even discuss.

  • Copying a DVD on an new iMac

First, forgive me for sounding like a complete novice. I recently purchased (Christmas 09) an iMac with the latest version of snow leopard, iLife, iWorks, etc.(was a PC user for last 15 years). My son has a DVD that was made for him by another parent of one of his High School basketball games. He needs to send a copy of this DVD to all of the colleges that he applies to. The DVD when it is inserted into the iMac automatically opens and displays a nice menu. Thinking I could figure it out, I inserted the DVD, right clicked on it and saw the commands "copy disk" and "burn disk". I copied the DVD, ejected it, inserted a blank DVD and hit burn disk. It copied and appears to be an exact copy (same folders, same files, etc). But when the copy is inserted into the iMac, it does not open and will not play in the system. With all this software it seems to me that there must be a quick and easy way to copy the DVD so that it will play in computers and home DVD players.
I would appreciate any assistance with step by step instructions on how to accomplish this goal.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Charlie

Sorry, you can't copy a DVD that way. DVDs are in a special format and what you did was create a DATA DVD.
See http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/making_dvdcopies.html for a way to do it with Disk Utility (in your Utilities Folder).

  • What is the best way to copy a DVD i made from iMovie?  It was HD720 and I don't want to lose any quality in the copies.

What is the best way to copy a DVD I made from iMovie?  It was HD720 and I don't want to lose any quality in the copies.  I need to distribute it to about 20 people. It's 42 minutes long.

You will need to save it as a video to the camera roll.
Import it into windows as you would a photo.
Then purchase DVD authoring software, and create a DVD.

  • Is it possible to copy a DVD to my itouch?

    If so, how?

Sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries), so we're not allowed to discuss it here.
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. Once converted, you just drag the movie into the iTunes window on your computer and you can then sync it to your iPad.
    Regards.

  • Copy my DVD movies to itunes to play on my apple tv

Does anyone know how to import or copy my DVD movies to itunes? I am trying to import or copy them into itunes so I can watch them on my apple tv?

Sorry we cannot discuss DVD ripping as it is explicitly forbidden in the [TOU 2.8.2|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms]

  • How do I copy to dvd to watch on my normal tv

How do I copy to dvd to watch on my normal tv.  I bought it so I assume I own it in the same way as if I bought a dvd from a store, so I would like to sit down and watch my programs and or films I buy on itunes on my normal tv set rather than in my office or on a small screen.  If I am unable to do this then there seems little point in decluttering my life from DVD boxes etc to buying online content.

Just like a DVD you buy from a store you limited rights to watch the content you have purchased. For iTunes protected content you are allowed to view and copy it between your autorised devices, not transcribe it to a different format. You can transfer the file between your devices over a computer network, with a memory stick, external drive or data DVD, but copying it to standard DVD Video format is not permitted.

  • Copy-Protecting DVDs against piracy in DVD Studio Pro; or otherwise ?

Copy-Protecting DVDs against piracy in DVD Studio Pro; or otherwise ?
I'm about to start encoding to MPEG2 a very important project that I've edited in Final Cut Pro.
It is vital that it cannot be copied by the client or I could lose a lot of money.
In the past this has never been a concern, but in this case it is very important.
What is the best way to prevent a client/people from copying your DVDs?
Is there anything I can do within DVD Studio Pro or is there anything the Replication house can do at the Glass-Mastering stage?
I'm sure this topic has been covered, but a quick search found nothing.
    Thanks guys.

Common problem but no easy answer. It's simply too easy to get around.
If you want to prevent finished master disks being copied in the same way commercial disks are then you will need to get them made at a duplication facility. Not cheap. You can't do it in DVD studio, it's to do with the disk burner.
On a feature film it is very important to prevent copies of work in progress. What a lot of cutting rooms do is make dvd's with the name of the person burnt in and a copy number. Often a large X with 30% opacity is put in the middle of frame.
This can't stop copies being made but at least you will know where they came from. It also seems to make the person who's name is burnt in take more care.
Sorry but thats the best I can offer.

  • Copying my DVD movies

    Hello all,
I have a few old DVDs that I would like to copy onto new DVD's. I have a LaCie external DVD burner.
What is the easiest way to copy the DVD entirely, making it to where I can watch it on my TV and stuff? The DVD's I have are single layer.
    Don't worry, I won't do anything illegal with other people's DVD's, etc.

    Hi Deme,
I don't believe Toast will do it unless it is a burned DVD. DVDs that are bought in the store have Macrovision or CSS (Content - Scrambling System) encryption. In order to decrypt this you will need a special program (like DeCSS). I personally don't think it is appropriate to tell you how to do it or where to find it because people who view this thread might use the information to make illegal copies. This is my personal opinion; I have no authority, so I can't say that it is not allowed. You should search the internet for common words or phrases that are related to you topic. If you do find something; make sure its for Mac OS X.

  • Copying home DVDs to hard drive

I have a DVD recorder hooked up to a TV. I'd like to copy a DVD from that machine onto my Macbook Pro's hard drive so that I can watch the contents without having to carry the disk around with me. Can I do that with QuickTime Pro?
The DVDs play fine using the DVD Player software, but I can't see any way to copy the contents to my computer.
    Thanks!

I'd like to copy a DVD from that machine onto my Macbook Pro's hard drive so that I can watch the contents without having to carry the disk around with me. Can I do that with QuickTime Pro?
No, QT Pro is not required.
The DVDs play fine using the DVD Player software, but I can't see any way to copy the contents to my computer.
Simply insert the DVD and use the Finder to copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to the HDD. When you want to play the movie open the Apple DVD Player, select the "Open DVD Media" File menu option, navigate to the Video_TS folder, select it, and play it. If you prefer a file the operates like a DVD, download DVD Imager, Drop the VIDEO_TS folder on it, give it a name and it will create a DVD image file. Double clicking the image file will mount the data as if you had inserted your DVD. If you computer is set to open the DVD Player when a DVD is inserted, then opening the image file will open the DVD Player also.
