Copying a launchpad

Dear Experts-
I am trying to make a copy of FPM launchpad. Can anyone let me know how I can do it?
Is there a way other than making a creating a new launch pad.
I am in Transaction lpd_cust and I want to copy
ESS CATS
ESS MENU and we are on ECC EHP5.

I ended up making a copy of the LPD_CUST role/instance and it copied across the Switch ID as well.

Dear Experts-
We are implementing ESS 1.51 busines spackage. Our backend system in ECC 6.0 EHP5. We want customise ESS launchpad (not just removing the links). Can any one let me know the steps. How I can make a copy of ESS launchapad. After makign the copy how should add it to the portal role. Please let me know. I looked for notes on SDN as its a new topic could not find many.

How to preserve preferences in LaunchPad?

I recently got a new MacBook Pro & used Migration Assistant. It worked flawlessly. In the past I have opted to install everything fresh by re-installing applications & dragging anything I wanted from the old Mac to the new one using an external drive. Migration Assistant saved me literally hours, if not days; and it worked nearly flawlessly.
However, there was one thing that did not work correctly. Now I know that most people don't really use LaundPad; and I don't really launch applications that way most of the time. I typically use Alfred as a launcher. However, I do like to keep my apps organized by type in LaunchPad. I won't bore you with the details, as I"m sure they are peculiar and not applicable to most people. This brings me to my question. Even though Migration Assistant did such an excellent job of bringing everything else over, it did not preserve the folders I had set up in LaunchPad nor the organizaiton of the applications in any way that I can see.
Is there a way to do that for the future? If I had copied the LaunchPad preference file from the old Mac to the new one, would that be the answer. If so, which files?

If the icon shows a question mark in the middle when you click on it then the alias is gone and all you need to do is drag the icon to the trash.
If the icon still launches the app then you have an active icon. Launchpad will find virtually all apps or app alias files on your system.
It too me several minutes to find and delete all of my redundant ...alias icons. It would have taken much longer but I had almost all of my alias files stored in stacks. Delete the stack folder and the icons weren't active. Drag them to the trash and the icons are gone.

[SOLVED] Google Earth signal 11 again

I'm getting the now infamous 'signal 11' error when trying to run Google Earth.
I've tried the suggestions in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=114992 with no luck and also reinstalling GE and all its dependencies.
Does anyone have any more ideas I can try?

I was caught out by "GE has caught signal 11" a couple of days ago (using nouveau driver with nvidia hardware). I don't have any .drirc or dri file (as mentioned in old thread 114992). However, I copied librarian.launchpad.net/7037027/libGL.so.1 into the directory /opt/google/earth/free/, and this got GE working, although the video quality wasn't so good. Then I installed ia32-libs in my copy of debian in virtualbox, then copied /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 from there, as libGL.so.1, back to arch to replace the one from launchpad.net. GE is now working perfectly.
I don't really understand any of the above. This is my 2nd installation, on a separate drive, but otherwise using the same hardware as the first, which was done using the official media. This one is from releng.archlinux.org, 2012/04/10_04, netinstall, x86_64. On the first, I couldn't get alsa to work and had to use oss for sound. With this one, alsa worked out the box, which is very nice. However, in addition to this google earth thing, I had significant trouble configuring an automatic wireless connection, and a problem with my samba server.
Oops - I had failed to install lib32-nouveau-dri !!!

Issue with creating two ESS (WDA) Overviews

I am prototyping ESS (WDA) EHP5 for my client. One of the requirements is to have 2 overviews for 2 groups of employeeds. This can be easily done with ESS Java where you just need to copy iViews and create different roles. However it seems very difficult to achieve this with the EHP5 version. In my case, I have 2 portal roles and groups, and I created a copy of the configurator HRESS_A_Menu (ZHRESS_A_Menu). I also save the launchpad ESS under a different role (ZESS) so I have 2 copies of the launchpad. Odd thing is there seems to be no way to copy a launchpad so the best thing to do is to use the SAVE AS function. So I have 2 configurator and 2 launchpads for the overview. I created a copy of the overview iView and pointed to ZHRESS_A_Menu configurator, which is configured to use ZESS role for launchpad. The copied overview is assigned to custom role.
However, any change I made in the ESS launch pad and the standard configuration can also be seen by users with the custom role.
Do I need to make a copy of the component in addition to the configurator? How can I do this since it is not displayed in SE80?
What else configuration is needed to achieve or this is simply impossible with this version?
Pls advise and I appreciate.

I would say its best to go to application configuration and do a 'Deep-copy'.
This helps you take a copy of entire structure and it will automatically take care of references too.
All you need to do is change the launchpad in two different copies. And specify these copied configurations in iviews.

Navigation Not Possible error

Hi All,
We are getting navigation not possible error while creating Travel Expenses.
Recently our system was upgraded from EHP5 to EHP6.
We have copied standard launchpad and we have assigned that custom launchpad role to the user.
We have debugged the method NAVIGATE_TO_OBJECT in class CL_FITV_NAVIGATION and came to know that in the code launchpad value "ESS" is hardcoded.
Please let us know how to proceed further to get our custom Launchpad Parameter into that method?

Yes this shouldnt be hardcoded, this should be either an application parameter or defined in customizing as it is done in many other standard functionnalities... but for FITV it is not the case...
I think that you only have 3 options here :
- Create an OSS message.
- Modify CL_FITV_NAVIGATION...
- Just edit ESS/MENU directly using transaction LPD_CUST

ESS EHP5 Menu links and texts getting duplicated / corrupted

We are implementing EHP5 ESS via the enterprise portal. To configure the Self Service menu's you use the transaction LPD_CUST but we are finding that when we modify a link text or the items long description - upon save the text is copied to items in that launchpad and it is often copied to many other items. There is really no consistency to it and we end up with lots of items with the same text in the menus.
Has anyone else had this? I am unable to find a SAP note on this and have raise an OSS but this is becoming critical to us.

please note that
the problem might be because it seems that you forgot to enter a
namespace if you create your launchpad.
If you use the package ie with Z* with the namespace 'Z'. So you must also
enter this namespace at the creation popup of the launchpad.
You can copy the launchpad to a different role or instance and delete
the original launchpad. You can enter $TMP as package.
After that copy the launchpad back. At the creation popup you need
to enter 'Z' as namespace. Now the transport should work.

All the software from Snow Leopard remain in the launchpad.

After upgrading my mac book pro from Snow Leopard to Lion this morning, I found out that all the old software from Snow Leopard still reamin in the Launchpad.
For example, I now have two icons for dictionaries, two icons for safari, two icons for photo booth and so on. The icon for the old software won't work, but the new one works just fine (which makes sense, but I don't know why the old icon isn't replaced by the new one.)
I understand that I can choose to delete the old icons one by one, but I'm just wondering if I'm the only person who is experiencing this right now.
Also, did I do something wrong here? Is there anyway to take care of this problem?

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

When I try to copy my iTunes music to my music folder on my external drive it says "The operation can't be completed because the item "audio" is in use." How do I get this to go away so I can copy the files?

I have never gotten this error before. I also tried restarting my computer but it says the same thing. I had no problem copying my documents or photos. Please help!

Quit iTunes if it's running. Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select My Processes from the menu in the toolbar of the Activity Monitor window, if not already selected. Enter "iTunes" (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Select and quit any process shown in the process table. Try the copy again.

Fiori Launchpad Error: Failure - Unable to load groups Resolved!!!!

This is a solution rather than a discussion, which i thought to do to with a kind generosity of spirit to give back to the community.
It gives me immense pleasure and happiness to write this particular post, because it is through SCN only i have been able to find the solution.
Ok, let's get down to the Business quickly, shall we?
I have been configuring Fiori App - Approve Purchase Orders. All the tasks for this have been done from SAP Help Site.
Recently I upgraded the ERP/Gateway (Its an embedded deployment) to EHP 7 and UI to SP09, post which the Fiori Launchpad started giving the below error.
If you look around the SCN, you will probably hit across these threads and so did I.

With the first thread, I tried everyone's solution and suggestions which had worked for others, but it didn't for me.
With second thread (Excellently posted by Masayuki Sekihara), it started off with lots of efforts and double-checks applying all of these notes hoping that it would resolve the issue. But I had done all the steps 1-8 and still didn't get the solution.
Besides the above two mentions I did umpteen number of other ridiculous things like implementing this note, that note, De-implementing another of the notes and everything i found as possible solutions on the Web.
Now, the breakthrough here is checking the errors in /IWFND/ERROR_LOG. Well, on the browser it used to give error 'Failure - Unable to Load Groups' while at the server side, actual error was something unusual and remotely not related to what the error looked like in the browser. In the back-end, I was getting the error "Data Provider implementation 'ZINTEROP_MODEL_0001_BE' '01' 'DEFAULT' does not exist". And this is something i know how to correct.
So just keep looking for the errors in /IWFND/ERROR_LOG and shift your focus there. That's really a good place to trouble-shoot.
And for the record to take care of the error 'Data Provider implementation 'ZINTEROP_MODEL_0001_BE' '01' 'DEFAULT' does not exist' you have to assign the DPC (Data Provider Class) to DMC (Data Modelling Class) correctly by navigating to IMG - SAP Netweaver - Gateway - Former Development - Local OData Channel Development - Registration - Assign Data Provider to Data Model. There you define the Data provider with the correct Software Version and Voila you are all set! You don't have to worry about the duplicate entry with another Software version, your correct software version is the one you have defined in the System Alias which you are using inside the service, which is generally DEFAULT.
I am able to get inside the Fiori Launchpad now (I was quite at edge to really give up as all the possible solutions had been ruled out for me ) and do see the tiles of the apps configured.
I hope this is going to be a good take-away for others who are having Odata handling issues.

If you still have the error, this is what I did to resolve mines.
1) Goto SPRO - SAP Netweaver - Gateway - Former Development - Local OData Channel Development - Registration - Assign Data Provider to Data Model
2) Find out the entry for 'ZINTEROP_MODEL_0001_BE'
3) Copy that entire row in a notepad for all the fields
4) Create new Entry with all the fields, except change the Software Version to DEFAULT (As that's what missing for you'
5) Save and give that another try.
This is what I exactly wrote in my solution as well.

A screen-shot perhaps helps you more.
Let the other duplicate entry with Software Version other than Default be there. Important is that the software version that you have defined in your alias must be the one over here.

How do you remove an unwanted Steam icon from Launchpad?

I found an answer to this question online after some extensive searching. The answer isn't on the Support Forums, so I thought I'd post a link to the page (to credit the author) and copy / paste the wording below.

The standard method for removing app icons from the Lion Launchpad is to hold the left mouse button [or old the Option / Alt key] over the app icon, wait for the cross to appear in the corner of the app icon, and then click it!
In some cases however app icons can become orphaned, for example if you use on Steam on Mac, deleting local content to uninstall a game will not remove the game icon from Launchpad. This leaves you with an unusable orphaned icon that seems invincible and does not appear in the Application folder along with the rest of your apps.
The solution is as follows…
1. Open Launchpad, find the offending icon(s) and drag them to your normal dock.
2. Right click on the icon that you dragged to your dock and choose ‘Show in Finder’.
3. Now drag the icon(s) from the Finder windows that opens up into the Trash.
4. Finally right click on the dock item(s) that you dragged originally and choose ‘Remove from dock’.
Voila, the icons have disappeared from Launchpad and the annoying orphaned icons that seemed invincible have been thwarted.

No question about that. If you can "see" Travis's device, then he can likely "see" your Time Capsule.
I'm just concerned that whomever the APExpress belongs to could be changing settings on my computer or Time Capsule that would cause the issues with me not being able to backup.
Make sure that you have a Time Capsule base station password. Unless a user has that password, they might be able to "see" your Time Capsule, but they cannot access any of the data on the Time Capsule or change the settings.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule and click Manual Setup
Then, click the Time Capsule tab below the icons to see the device name and password for your device. Make sure that you have entered the password and confirmed. Click Update if you have made any changes.
The message I get is "The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk."
I am not sure what this error means, because I cannot duplicate it here to test.

When I migrated the contents of my iMac to my new MacBook Pro (both running Lion), I ended up with duplicate icons in the launchpad. How do I get rid of them?

When I used migration Assistant to transfer stuff from my iMac to my MacBook Pro, both running the latest update of Lion, I ended up with duplicate icons in the Launchpad. How do I correct this situation. Some can be deleted using the iPad method of holding down an icon until they all jiggle and then clicking the "X" to delete. However, most do not have x's appear next to them. Otherwise, the migration seemed to go okay.

Launchpad will display an icon for each copy of an application that is currently installed (as well as any aliases to those applications), so you will see more than one icon for an application if you have more than one version of the application installed or aliased. So did you create any aliases of these apps on your old computer? If so, delete them.

Time Machine doesn't appear in Launchpad since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I'm using 10.8.1), Time Machine doesn't appear as one of the apps when using Launchpad. I can't figure out where it "went" but how do I get it back into Launchpad?
It's still in the Applications folder and in my Dock but I'd like to know why it isn't in Launchpad any more?

Column Bread in the ESS launchpad

Hi everyone,
I am struggling to get my column break to take effect when I add it in my ESS launchpad.
I see how it is used in the standard launchpads, but I can't seem to get it working myself. When I insert a column break it will only place itself inside a folder. And regardless, it doesn't have any effect.
Anyone care to share with me how you do this?!

Thank you for your help.
We experienced the same, so we also copied a standard one and altered it. But in the process I managed to delete the Column Break that came along with the standard launchpad.
Do you really think I have to start all over again, just because I can't get the column break to work?
I'm thinking I maybe should open an OSS. This should be a piece of cake... Don't you think?

Error message when I try to copy new files (images, documents) to mac from flash drive/SD card

I am recieving an error message when I try to copy new files (images, documents) to mac from flash drive/SD card. The message is saying "operation cannot be completed because an item already exists with that name." They are brand new therefore not the same name? I cannot even put them in a brand new folder... How can I fix this?

You don't need to recover the system.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press the space bar:
dot_clean -m
Switch to the Finder and drag the icon of the flash drive into the Terminal window. Some text will appear after what you entered. Press return.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. Then quit Terminal and try the copy again.
