Copying and pasting filters - WHY don't keyframes copy and paste?

A couple of months ago I posted about an issue I'd found with FCP (I'm using 4.5/OS 10.3.9 now, but I think I've had this problem since back on my old G4 system using 2.02/OS 9.2.2). Simply, when "Pasting Attributes", and selecting "filters", the filters thusly pasted do not - I repeat, do not - contain keyframes.
I received a bunch of pooh-poohs from the cognescenti, basically telling me I was crazy and that on THEIR systems pasting filters worked great. However, I've just tried to paste filters a second way, and gotten the same result. When I open the filters tab in the Viewer, and copy/paste the filter, the filter pastes fine...but with no keyframes.
I've tried placing the playhead at the first frame of the segment, on each keyframe in the effect, and at the last keyframe. The filter pastes with the initial (i.e., first keyframe) settings intact, but contains no keyframes.
Obviously, the workaround is to drag the filter into the Browser and drag it back onto the segment. No problem doing that...however, I just wanted to let all you doubting Thomases know that yes, Houston, there IS a problem.
However, upon researching this subject in the Apple Discussion board (thank god for tabbed browsing!), I notice that this is accepted behavior in FCP - several respondants noted that filters paste while keyframes don't. Why, then, paste the initial filter attributes from a copied filter? If yer not gonna paste the entire filter with keyframes, why not just paste the basic settings from the filter menu?
Also, let me note this: AVID lets you paste keyframes...(OK, OK, so its filter/efx setup is totally klugey compared to FCP...hey, I want FCP to have it ALL!)

Cognoscenti? You mean the elitists? Man, those guys are such jerks.
If I'd been reading the thread I'd have said, "You can't paste keyframes on filters. Hasn't worked since v3.5. Stupid programming change. You must use paste attributes, replace content."
This is not a workaround, it's the paradigm. I usually do this: painstakingly set up effects, filters, motion and other attributes in a clip that sort of stands by itself. Select and duplicate or paste this master clip somewhere convenient so I have a copy of it. Go back to browser to find the next clip to which I wish to apply this same collection of mods, load it into the viewer, or not, and copy. Select the master clip, paste attributes, content only.
Also, let me note this: AVID lets you paste keyframes...< </div>
Oh, you're one of THOSE! So does After Effects but neither of those apps were designed for Apple. What's an Avid?

Why don't my iPad and iPhone see each other's tabs in Safari?

My iCloud tabs don't show from my iPad to iPhone or vice versa. They each see both my of Macs' tabs, but my Macs will only see the tabs for whichever iOS device I used most recently. Why wouldn't they both show up at the same time?

I have the same issue. I have an iMac, MacBook Air, iPhone 5, iPad air and an iPad mini. All have icloud set up correctly and 2-3 devices at most show up on any given device. My two iPads only see my two computers and the iPhone. They don't see each other at all. My iMac saw one the iPad mini briefly then it disappeared. I went thru the entire kb article on all the devices, it didn't help. I also tried resetting network settings and resetting all settings on both iPads, that didn't help either. I had icloud accounts completely deleted from all my devices and re-added the iPads first, and that didn't help, without the macs and the iPhone they just didn't see any safari tabs at all then. Hopefully this is something Apple is aware of and fixing in iOS 7.1.

Why don't my Keyboard and track pad work after being connected to Apple Thunderbolt Display?

I've run into this several times, after closing than unhooking the thunderbolt cables with an external usb keyboard and mouse hooked to the display, the keyboard and track pad no longer work on my macbook pro. I end up having to hard boot it (holding down power button). This seems like a glaring bug since I can reproduce this often.

so far during the re installation, the trackpad has already been ignored but the USB mouse still works so I don't know whats going to happen.

Why don't my iPhone and iPad sync wirelessly anymore?

I just started college and ever since I got here, my phone and iPad 4 have not been syncing with iTunes wirelessly and it drives me crazy. I have wifi here and they're all connected to the same network...what might be preventing this from working?

Settings>iCloud>Photo Stream>On. Do that on both devices. Or Settings>Photos and Camera>Photo Stream>On.
Photo Stream will only work with new photos that you have taken with either device - after you turn it on. It will not stream photos that were on the device before you turned it on.
And of course, you must be connected to Wifi in order for it to work.

Why don't my albums and book in iPhoto 5 appear in the iPhoto 6 library?

I deliberately upgraded to OX10.4.9 so that I could get iLife 6 with iPhoto 6. Everything seemed fine until I realized that the albums and book I made in iPhoto 5 (but the book was not yet published) were no longer there. I can't find it anywhere in the libraries for my current iPhoto 6, and Spotlight can't find it on the computer. I do have the original photos in the Originals list, but in order to make the book I had to sort and weed out the pictures. Then I made custom captions for the book's pages. I was hoping to publish the book using the upgraded iPhoto6. Now it looks as if I will have to go through the whole process again.
Maybe there is hope because I did a back-up of my whole system on an external hard drive before I loaded in Tiger and the new iLife. But I don't know how to get the photo book out of there and export it to the iPhoto6 library.
What is the best way to get the book back----or is it possible at all?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you let iPhoto 6 do the conversion of the iPhoto 5 library? Do you still have a copy of the iPhoto 5 library. If so try the following;
1 - move the current V6 library folder to the desktop.
2 - copy the V5 library into your Pictures folder.
3 - download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
4 - make sure you've updated iPhoto to 6.0.6. To do that you'll need to apply the updaters in the following order:
a. run the 6.0.4 updater
b. download and run the 6.0.5 updater (will only run on 6.0.4)
c. download and run the 6.0.6 updater (will only run on 6.0.5)
d. run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions.
That should give you a converted library with the book and albums intact.
The book and albums would be virtual entities and you wouldn't find them in Spotlight. But if they didn't get converted you'll have to recreate them from scratch.
Hint: I use iPhoto Library Manager and create a separate iPhoto library for books. I put the photos I want in the book in an album and then copy that album to the book library with iPLM. If I need more photos I copy them in a new album as the book progresses. Once the book is done and ordered I copy the book library folder intact to a CD. Then at a time in the future if I want to order another book just like it, I can. I just copy that library folder to the desktop, open it with iPhoto and order. It preserves the original book as ordered.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Why don't my speaker and microphone work?

So a week or so ago, my iPhone's built-in speaker stopped working properly. I was playing music and it suddnely cut off. I listened very closely and I realized that it wasn't not working, it was just super low. I blew into the dock port and all of a sudden it got louder while I was doing that. I then took a hairdryer and blew cool air into it for a little and it started working again.
It worked for about 2 days, then stopped working completely. I tested to see if it worked with headphones in and yes it did. I made a video and realized my microphone was not working either. People cannot hear me if I talk to them on the phone, speakerphone on or not.
What I want to ask is what parts do you think have gone bad? Arn't the micrphone and speaker separate parts? What would have made both of them to not work? Could it be some kind of connection cable?
My warrenty is gone, so I can't bring it in to Apple without paying a bunch.

Make sure your you have the ringer/vibrate knob on the left side of your device by the volume buttons in the upright position instead of in the down position. That would be another option besides the aperture issue as Tonefox has mentioned. If that does not resolve the issue then you can also try and perform a restore throug ITunes and that may also resolve the issue.
If you perform a restore through ITunes, be sure and backup your device before you do a restore so you don't lose any oyour personal information like Contacts, pictures and so forth. You can also create a backup on ICloud through your device as well but you need to be on WIFI to create a backup through ICloud. Just go into Settings in your device and make sure you login with your Apple ID and you should be ready to create a backup through ICloud. Be sure and turn the toggles on that you want to backup onto ICloud and turn off what you do not want to backup. Just make sure you are connected to WIFI because that is the only way to create a backup on ICloud.

Why don't my FCPX and RED epic audio levels match?

So I have a RODE something or the other mic connected to channel 1 in the RED EPIC, recording in mono. Its runs on batteries and all that good stuff so there is no need for phantom. When I record on the RED my levels are appropriate, they are getting to what I'd assume is -6 (a lil bit into the yellow). Then I import to FCPX and the levels are off. In order for me to get useable sound I need to jack up my levels 12db. So I recorded at a bad level on the RED, all in the red area of the graph. (there are no number indicators on the RED EPIC for audio), and now me levels in FCPX are hitting -6db. Is the RED audio scale off, or is FCPX auto compressing my audio. It also seems like it is limiting it, because some of my audio that I import from the EPIC won't go past 0db unless i alter it in anyway, not that I would want to go past 0db but I should be able to. What I think is happening is one of two things either the EPIC's audio scaling is radically off, or FCPX is doing some sort of automation during ingestion, b/c the levels on the camera do not match the levels on FCPX. I also doubt RED would mess up such a long standing, standardized measuring system as the one that is currently used. Also on another side note when I change my clip from dual mono to stereo it changes the audio levels w/o changing the waveform. I go to dual mono and it limits all the sound to under -6db not matter how loud, and then I switch to stereo and without changing any volume settings it seems to go back to a original raw form that uses the whole spectrum. Does anyone know whats going on here, b/c I am really confused at this point.

also in addition I brought it into Premiere Pro CC and Pro Tools and in Pro Tools the audio was spot on, in Premiere it was 3db off and in FCPX it was 6db off. Is anyone else having this problem?

Using iCloud - why don't my iPhone and iPad calendar appointments match?

I use iPhone 5C and iPad Air.
I recently decided to ditch using Outlook 2010 Calendar on my PC (Windows 8) and switch to iCloud - a drastic decision after using Outlook for 15 years.
I created a new iCloud account and turned on Contacts and Calendar (I only want to sync these two functions) on both devices.
I also selected 'Sync events 6 months ago' on both devices.
With everything crossed, I expected to see the same calendar entries on both devices sync with each other, creating duplicate calendars, but this is not the case.
All calendar events for the last 6 months appear on my iPad but not on my iPhone (although some do).
Any suggestions what might have caused this and what the solution is?
I've been trying to resolve the issue for the last couple of days without any luck.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have considered trying this. But when when I turn off Settings->iCloud->Calendar I get a message that says:
What would you like to do with the previously synced iCloud calendars on your iPhone? Keep on my iPhone. Delete from my iPhone. Cancel.
I cancelled the action as I don't know what option I should chose. If I select Delete from my iPhone, does this also delete them from the iCloud, which will in turn delete them from my iPad? Or do I select keep on my iPhone?

Why don't my projects and designs save?

I recently upgraded to multisim 10. I opened a multisim 9 project and made changes to the design. No matter if i save the design or the project, when I come back the next day none of my changes are saved - it always opens to the original design. how come?

Can you attach the file in question?... (in a zip file), so we can try it, are you using hierarchical blocks or subcircuits that are still referenced to a v9 file?

Why don't DIAdem VIs and DAQmx VIs install when upgrading?

Hi all,
I'm on my third upgrade of the Developer Suite with DIAdem. Every time I install a new version, I have to manually reinstall both the DIAdem connectivity VIs and the DAQmx VI library. Am I missing a step in the install? This is tripling the amount of time it takes to upgrade and introduces more opportunities for me to mess something up...overall not fun.

What do you mean by manually reinstall? So for me here is how it works.
New developer suite DVD packs come in for 2014. Put in DVD 1, pick my products to be installed which include LabVIEW, DIAdem, TestStand etc.
The install goes and installs all the products I picked, then at the end it asks for device drivers to install. DAQmx is picked by default so I tell it to install and it finishes.
At the end of this I have the newest LabVIEW, with the newest drivers. The only interaction I have is at the start saying what products to install, and at the end saying what drivers to install. Sure this could be more stream lined to ask about drivers up front but overall the process works. It knows it needs to install LabVIEW before the other tools so it does. And it knows it needs to install drivers after LabVIEW so it does. If you are installing things one at a time, and in your own order I could see where problems could happen.
EDIT: Oh and I forgot the other interaction for swapping DVDs mid install. But what I do is merge all DVDs into a single folder on the network so it doesn't prompt for DVD swapping.

My Safari suddenly stopped loading Facebook, Google and YouTube. Why? I downloaded Firefox and it's working really well! What's going on?

Over the past two or three weeks, my Safari has bogged down. It will load most Web pages just fine, but YouTube, Google and Facebook just won't launch. I managed to use it to download Firefox and it's working great. Safari is still a no-go.

Those three sites require the Flash plugin.
Quit Safari.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try one of those sites.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
If uninstalling and reinstalling Flash didn't help, it could be a cookies issue.
Back to the Safari menu bar again, click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Click Show Cookies. Then click Remove All > Done
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

I set restrictions on my Ipod to keep out my sister and i accidentally hit "Don't Allow Apps" and I reenabled them,but now I am missing some paid apps that are still installed I just ca't see them....Any help would be appriciated (No jailbreaking my Ipod)

Nevermind I ended up having to reset my restrictions and everything was restored after I reenabled the restrictions. There are also other ways to retrieve but I did NOT jailbreak my Ipod.
